BACK TO THE FUTURE (1985) Let’s venture back in time, when wearing two polos, puffy sweater vests and Nike tennis shoes was all the rage, as Robert Zemeckis took us back “about 30 years” with his smash late-summer sci-fi comedy: BACK TO THE FUTURE. Playing on Netflix in June, along with BACK TO THE FUTURE II, your family will get “a real hoot” heading back to catch this timeless classic, starring Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd, Lea Thompson and Crispin Glover. But, if “blast from the past” summer movies aren’t your thing, then the next film is the perfect combination of comedy and super-hero mayhem to check out instead.

INCREDIBLES 2 (2018) If you didn’t get a chance to catch this classic PIXAR film in the summer of 2018, after waiting 14 long years for this sequel to arrive, you’re going to be super excited to catch this fabulous film on Netflix this month. Or, even if you did get to catch it at a theater, this is one of those films you’ll want to watch again, as Mr. Incredible, Elastigirl, Violet, Dash and Jack-Jack put their hilarious spin into the super-hero universe again in INCREDIBLES 2. This film stars the voices of Craig T. Nelson, Holly Hunter, Sarah Vowell, Huck Milner, Eli Fucile and Samuel L. Jackson, and is a perfect family film to view, from ages 2 years and older.

Pappy Happy 20 IDEAS FOR HONORING FATHER'S DAY AT HOME
“AFFECTION” IS THE MIDDLE NAME OF SOLID, COMPASSIONATE AND LOVING FATHERS. For many people, traditional Father’s Day gatherings and plans are still on-hold, so until real hugs can replace virtual hugs, following are creative ideas about how to affectionately honor those special men in life on their glorious annual day. HOW TO CELEBRATE FATHER’S DAY, ESPECIALLY AT HOME 1. Present a Show and Tell -- this is a particularly good activity for younger family members. 2. Create a themed acrostics. Acrostics is a type of word puzzle that uses an acrostic form (poem in which the first letter of each line spells out a word, message or the alphabet), typically consisting of two parts. The first part is a set of lettered clues, each of which has numbered blanks representing the letters of the answer. The second part is a long series of numbered blanks and spaces, representing a quotation or other text, into which the answers for the clues fit. 16
Clayton Lifestyle | June 2020
In some forms of the puzzle, the first letters of each correct clue answer, read in order from clue A on down the list, will spell out the author of the quote and the title of the work it is taken from; this can be used as an additional solving aid. 3. Sing one of his favorite songs to him -- can be done via video for those still physical distancing. 4. Make him laugh every hour, on the hour. One option would be to text him one joke after every 60 minutes. 5. Play a game, which could even be done by phone if need be. 6. Create a mini golf course indoors or outdoors at your home. 7. Set up a bowling lane with items found around the house, and use a basketball for the bowling ball. 8. Play catch in the backyard. 9. Go for a bike ride together. 10. Build something together, particularly with Legos. 11. Make him a journal or memory book regarding all the attributes that make good fathers, showcasing photos of him, of course. 12. Make his favorite meals for the day or the whole weekend. 13. Send him a popcorn gift basket, if you cannot be together due to COVID-19 health concerns or risks. 14. Announce on social media all the reasons why you love, support and celebrate him. 15. Be sure to send him a special Father’s Day card in the mail. 16. Write a heartfelt gratitude letter to him and deliver it to his mailbox or front door. 17. Buy a mix-and-match of craft beers or limited-batch wine, and drop them off at his doorstep when not able to share them in-person. 18. Through technology access, participate in a virtual hike or walk together. 19. Send him a special, edible gift basket, with both healthy items and sweet treats. 20. Invent customized stories about him by taking a few sheets of paper and cutting them into squares; then write a single and possibly hilarious word on each, such as: fish, biscuits, alien. rhinoceros, Gouda cheese. Then ask your kids to make up a tale, occasionally flipping a square over and adding the word on it to the story. Let the imagination run wild! CityLifestyle.com/Clayton

ONE CARDINAL WAY BRINGS LUXURY LIVING AND PANAROMIC VIEWS TO DOWNTOWN RESIDENTS LIVING AT THE NEW 29-STORY RESIDENTIAL TOWER NEXT TO BALLPARK VILLAGE WILL NOT NEED TICKETS TO A BASEBALL GAME. 22
Clayton Lifestyle | June 2020
IMAGINE WATCHING CARDINAL BASEBALL FROM A PERSONAL APARTMENT WINDOW, AN OPEN TERRACE OR EVEN A SWIMMING POOL. That’s what residents of One Cardinal Way, 601 Clark Ave., will enjoy as part of their experience in this new, 29-story building rising in downtown St. Louis, next to Ballpark Village and across the street from Busch Stadium. As part of Ballpark Village--a mixed-use retail, entertainment, office and residential district developed by the Cordish Companies in partnership with the St. Louis Cardinals--the residential tower is scheduled to open for residents the first part of August. These luxury apartments will introduce a new lifestyle to downtown, adding to the regional renaissance. The building features one- and two-bedroom apartments, plus 16 penthouses, all with floor-to-ceiling windows offering magnificent views of not only Busch Stadium, but the St. Louis skyline, the Arch, the Mississippi River and all that lies to the West. The one-bedroom apartments start at 571 square feet, the two bedrooms at 1,200 square feet and the penthouses at 1,500 square feet. Apartments feature luxury vinyl tile with carpeting in some bedrooms. “We left the concrete ceilings open exposing the ductwork, so everything is roomy and bright,” says Marnie Sauls, sales director. “We call the eighth floor our entertainment floor,” Marnie says. “You have a conference area with computers, and a demonstration kitchen where we have three or four events a month.” The eighth floor includes a full-service fitness center and party room, which can be rented for private events. It also has cozy nooks with fireplaces for relaxing, livestreaming televisions and a full-service bar. The outside terrace features the indoor/outdoor bar and infinity pool where residents can watch the game either from the pool, or they can choose to sit on the oversized, turf-covered stairs. Because barbecue and baseball go together, grills and picnic tables are available for outdoor cooking–pork steaks, no doubt. “The top two floors feature penthouse apartments with

gracious floor plans and upgraded appliances, fixtures and finishes. Marnie says 60 percent of the apartments are rented, and the company is hosting “get acquainted” parties for residents. “We want to connect the residents. We have retirees, empty nesters, Gen-Xers and some families, and many of them have already met.” Mike LaMartina, Cordish chief revenue officer, says One Cardinal Way takes the next step in continuing to evolve the downtown landscape. “We’re going from an entertainment-focused property in Ballpark Village to a fully living, breathing neighborhood,” he says. “The goal of the partnership between the Cordish company and the Cardinals is to inject foot traffic, urban development and a neighborhood aspect into our specific area,” he says. “Everything going on around us from the aquarium to the improvements at Enterprise Center to the coming MLS stadium–all of our goals remain the same, and that is to drive density downtown, to drive activity and make sure we’re providing amenities, assets and entertainment across the board for all types of people. At the end of the day, that fuels the downtown development scene while also providing a regionally significant area where people can come to from all over,” Mike reflects.

JOHN BROWN, SHARES THE IMPETUS BEHIND HIS NEWEST BOOK, MISSOURI – AN ILLUSTRATED TIMELINE. This is John’s sixth book with the publishing company, Reedy Press. On the heels of his latest book release, John also was recently awarded “Best News Anchor” in Missouri by the Missouri Broadcasters Association. While the new book offers a historical retrospective, it’s far from a typical history book. John presents Missouri’s past 200 years in a way that’s both educational and entertaining for every generation and generations to come. The book is available at MissouriLegends.com. WHAT WAS THE INSPIRATION FOR THE BOOK? Missouri’s 200th anniversary is next year, August 10, 2021. It’s going to be such a big deal for the state. I thought: “What kind of book will get people excited about the 200th anniversary of our statehood?” I’m hoping people read this and feel the same level of excitement that I do as we approach 2021. WHAT DID YOU LEARN IN WRITING THIS BOOK? We tend to compartmentalize history and say, “Well, that happened, and that was the only thing happening.” But when events are placed on a timeline, you realize several things happened in the same time period. While Jesse James was robbing people in mid-Missouri, 150 miles away in St. Louis, Washington University and St. Louis University were developing highly respected scientific institutions with medical schools and hospitals. In 20 or 30 years from now, we’ll think back about this time with the pandemic and assume everyone was just stuck at their home, not talking, not doing anything. But things are happening. We just don’t know about them yet. There are people at home working on the next great inventions. HOW DID YOU BECOME A HISTORY EXPERT? I’m not an expert. I’m just interested. I lived in 20 different towns all over Missouri before I graduated from college. I’ve lived in almost every part of the state. I’ve gotten to know the people, and go to the high schools. It’s a rather unusual way to learn history. But it worked for me because I understand what makes each of the different areas so unique. That’s important to me because I had to fight to get my book, Missouri Legends, published about 10 years ago. They said nobody wanted to read about famous Missourians; that book became

a big success. The message of that book is: It doesn’t matter what town you are from, people from all over Missouri have found success and you can, too. FAVORITE ROAD TRIP IN MISSOURI? I can’t drive between here and Springfield without saying, “Let’s get off and look at Devil’s Bend.” My wife and I just took our girls to the Lake of the Ozarks the slow way – through the wine country. It took us 12 hours. CityLifestyle.com/Clayton

John O’Leary HOW DID YOU TURN SURVIVING A FIRE THAT LEFT YOU WITH THIRD-DEGREE BURNS OVER 100% OF YOUR BODY INTO A CAREER HELPING OTHERS? I don’t consider myself a burn victim. If you ask me what happened, it frees me to tell you a little bit more, and then if I’m really listening, I realize you’re probably asking for a reason. COVID-19 HAS CHANGED OUR LIVES. HOW CAN YOU HELP PEOPLE SEE LIGHT THROUGH THE DARKNESS? I’d encourage them to recognize this is a frightening time, so it’s OK to feel a little isolation and despair because these are dark, difficult days. But I think we have an opportunity to pivot and create a future we may not have been bold enough to create otherwise. HOW DO YOU THINK YOUR KIDS ARE PROCESSING EVERYTHING? One of the beautiful things about children is that they’re wildly adaptive, they embrace whatever the moment is, whenever that moment arrives, and whatever shows up within it. They can teach us a lot on how best to handle this pandemic, and how best to not only move forward with optimism, but to embrace the joy we can find even in the midst of it. CAN YOU SEE A SILVER LINING…PERHAPS A KINDER, GENTLER WORLD? If there is something good to come out of COVID-19, it’s that we recognize how important relationships are, how important it is to slow down, count our blessings and not take anything for granted. ANY ADVICE ON HOW TO REMAIN PATIENT DURING THIS DIFFICULT TIME? We can grow in patience by taking inventory of what we have. My dad, who has Parkinson’ disease, taught me this. He begins each day smiling and reflecting on the reasons he still has to be grateful. I think one of the ways to grow not only in resiliency, in courage, and in life is to choose to be grateful. That grateful heart will not only allow us to weather any storm, but will actually free us to do so with a smile on our face. 34
