GOOD TIMES
Celebrating the Class of 2020 This school year was certainly an unusual one for all students; but for graduating high school seniors, that’s probably an understatement. Our #SouthDaytonSTRONG community rallied together virtually in Facebook groups like “Adopt a Centerville 2020 Grad” and “Honor a Springboro Senior 2020,” to coordinate surprise drop-offs of gifts and goodies for our amazing local Class of 2020. EVERYONE HAS A STORY TO TELL. From the 17,000-yearold cave paintings in southwestern France to the stories our mothers read to us when we were young, stories feed our imagination; they help us to better understand each other, and they bring us together. For over five years, the mighty team at Springboro-based Braughler Books has been helping authors tell their stories. From memoirs to children’s books, business books and inspirational/self-help books, President and Owner David Braughler has worked closely with over 100 Ohio-based authors. “We take a very collaborative approach with our authors. We’re there to answer their questions and point out the ones they didn’t know to ask,” he said. “It’s a privilege to help others share their stories, and we take that very personally—and do our best to help our authors publish a book that’s even better than they imagined.”

A professionally published book takes work, from editing to cover design to the layout of the chapters inside the book. And then there are printing and distribution. Authors have more choices than ever for publishing their stories, so it’s critical to find a publishing partner who shares your vision—one who can help you reach your goals. Helping people publish books is something that Braughler is very passionate about. “Stories matter,” he said, “and helping people tell their stories in the best way possible is our way of making a difference in the world. We’ve had authors tell us that we changed their lives. That’s what keeps us going—to do our very best.” Here Braughler shares three summer reading recommendations from local authors he’s published. “GOING TO A BIG CITY MIGHT NOT BE AT THE TOP OF YOUR BUCKET LIST RIGHT NOW, BUT The Soldiers and Sailors Monument is the physical and spiritual heart of Indianapolis. Monument Circle was originally intended to house the governor’s mansion, but no governor wanted to live in such a public location. Instead it was decided after the Civil War to erect a monument to those who fought. The basement contains a Civil War Museum, and the top is crowned with a statue of Victory. You can visit an observatory for a bird’s-eye view of the city, via 330 stairs; or take the elevator up, for just a buck. Who knew Indy had so much to offer? And that’s not even including indoor opportunities or dining options—but that might just have to wait until another day.
WHY NOT CONSIDER THE OUTDOOR OPTIONS THAT MANY OF OUR NEARBY MIDWESTERN COMRADES HAVE TO OFFER?”

RENOVATE & REFINE
THIS INDEPENDENCE DAY, GO BEYOND BUNTING WITH A DIY PATRIOTIC FLORAL ARRANGEMENT
R E D, W H I T E AND BLOOM SIMPLY LOOKING TO BRING MORE COLOR INSIDE YOUR HOME THIS SUMMER? The creative team at South Dayton Lifestyle got the urge to come up with a DIY project that could do both! Bunting is fun and wood-crafted porch decor is great too, but we wanted to try our hand at a patriotic floral arrangement that could be enjoyed indoors or out! We headed over to none other than the Flowerman himself—Steve Smith, of The Flowerman in Centerville—to lend us a hand. Entering The Flowerman’s facility is like walking into an indoor garden. The walk-in retail cooler is open to the public; you can mix and match flowers from around the world! But if you’re a flower newbie, like we are, the floral designers there are happy to assist in finding the right flowers for your occasion. To learn more, visit www.FlowermanFlowers.com. In creating this rustic, patriotic arrangement, we used the following fresh cut flowers. It’s like a floral fireworks display! From all of us at South Dayton Lifestyle, have a happy and safe Independence Day.
