tugging us along into warmer weather. Mom was an optimist. Living in Michigan, perhaps were it not for her sunny disposition, we would have all been miserable. Winter goes on and on there (though, not this year, as our globe struggles). My brother Tim was born in Detroit April 20 and more than once he celebrated a birthday with a toboggan party at the golf course. Now, he lives in Northern Michigan, above the 45th parallel and chops cords of wood each fall to fuel his wood-burning furnace all winter long. He was born to embrace winter, I guess. Happy Birthday, big brother!

developed by West Coast jazz legend Matt Falker. Matt hails from Oceanside, California, where he has developed one of the finest jazz vocal programs in the country. Falker joins the camp staff of professional musicians and educators who believe practicing and performing jazz can build a student’s confidence, encourage creativity, and inspire excellence. Artistic Director Lee Watts also recognizes the valuable partnership with City Springs. When he and Joe toured the space, they immediately realized the camp’s potential for growth and the possibility of providing other workshop and camp opportunities throughout the year. They are continuing to seek partners to help make this happen. “We are always looking for new restaurant sponsors to help with lunches, and we applaud Chick fil-A, Roasters, and Café 290 for their continuing support,” says Joe. “We are excited to get to know our new Sandy Springs neighboring businesses in the vibrant downtown area.” Sandy Springs and Dunwoody area jazz fans know Joe Gransden and his 16-piece Big Band from Cafe 290, where they play the first and third Mondays of each month, and it’s been his tradition to invite local high school jazz bands to open for his show. “We have middle and high school bands play from 8:00 - 8:30 then invite them to stick around and listen to our set,” says Joe. “It’s a great opportunity for the young musicians to experience a professional band in a smaller venue and we’re always impressed by the level of talent these students bring.” Joe’s Jazz Camp is supported, in part, by generous contributions from benefactors who sponsor scholarships, donate equipment and volunteer time to help make the students’ experience smooth and meaningful. MICRONEEDLING

WITH RADIO-FREQUENCY Clear your bathroom vanity by purging all those beauty products that just don’t work. Looking youthful and beautiful is one thing we all aspire to. For many of us, it is crucial not only in our personal life, but our business life as well. Looking beautiful is subjective, but it is my belief that we all strive to look our best. These days, science and technology in the beauty industry is so advanced, achieving and maintaining a healthy, youthful appearance is easier and more affordable than you think. At Creative Medspa, we offer the latest, most advanced rejuvenating treatments that will not only stop aging in its tracks, they will reverse it! Our most popular treatment, the Vivace Fractional Microneedling with RadioFrequency combines the rejuvenating benefits of microneedling with the skin tightening effects of radio-frequency and the healing benefits of

LED light. This trifecta of skin rejuvenation improves skin tone, texture and firmness and leaves you with brighter, tighter, youthful looking skin. When we combine these treatments with our top-of-the-line, medical grade skin care products, chosen just for you by our experienced, internationally licensed aesthetician, your treatment results will be enhanced and maintained for years to come. TRUSCULPT 3D Don’t throw out your skinny clothes just yet! truSculpt 3D is a non-surgical radio-frequency treatment that will permanently destroy targeted fat cells and will sculpt and contour your body. Patients have experienced an average of 24% reduction in fat thickness in one single treatment. Although the primary target is fat, a potential benefit is skin tightening and the reduction in the appearance of stubborn cellulite. The procedure is virtually pain free and there is absolutely no downtime. Although many start to see their results in 6 - 8 weeks, full results are visible by 12 weeks. LASER HAIR REMOVAL Throw out those razors! Shaving is annoying and time-consuming. Not to mention, it can cause ingrown hairs, cuts, bumps and razor burn. Many of us find ways to eliminate shaving by using depilatory creams or by waxing, but these methods often irritate the skin and are not permanent. Laser Hair Removal is an effective solution to getting rid of that unwanted hair so you can forgo shaving indefinitely! Our lasers are safe for all skin tones and ethnicities and can treat everything from coarse to fine hair. Our experienced, internationally licensed aesthetician is also a certified laser specialist so you can rest assured you’ll receive the highest level of service, skill and efficacy. The organization’s silver anniversary in 2019 was not only a celebration of 25 years of keeping watch over our waters but also served as an opportunity for the established nonprofit to make a commitment to the next 25 years and the people that will protect the river in the future. CRK is creating new opportunities to engage, inspire, and activate the next generation of conservationists and lovers of the great outdoors, an initiative the organization has dubbed Water Warriors. Programs like CRK’s floating classrooms have already demonstrated the profound impact that connecting children with water can have; this, along with the Water Warriors campaign, aims to connect children to the environment in a fun and exciting way as well as connect them with each other. Available to Water Warriors are quarterly events that celebrate the significance of young people and the environment. Part of this initiative will be the 2nd Annual All Girls Fly Fishing Workshop, a day on the river filled with fly fishing, educational lessons, and fun. Hosted by Unicoi Outfitters, the event will take place on Saturday, April 11 in Helen, Ga. Participants will experience an entomology lesson and learn about conservation, casting lessons, the anatomy of a fly rod, and

Montréal,

termed the well-deserved endearment, “City of Festivals,” and in 2019, we had the pleasure to explore the city during the summer themed around milestones: Cirque De Soleil’s 35th year of existence, the International de Jazz de Montréal de Montréal turning 40, and the 10th anniversary of the Montréal Cirque Fest. While Cirque De Soleil is internationally renowned with more than three decades of tenure, and the International de Jazz being the world’s largest of its kind, the Montréal Cirque Fest (Montréal Complètement Cirque) provided a more indigenous feel and connection directly to the city. We indulged in the latter. With seemingly countless outdoor shows

along the bustling streets, in parks, plazas, and venues throughout the metropolis, Cirque embraced the awe of primarily circus themes over an 11-day span. These acts included jaw-dropping acrobatics, breathtaking tightrope walking, physical storytelling, and high-flying acts with roots stemming from TOHU—the lauded headquarters for breeding circus talent in the heart of Cité des arts du cirque—along with the support of Cirque Éloize, Les7 doigts de la main, the National Circus School, En Piste, and Cirque du Soleil to list a few. Taking place in Montréal’s gorgeous summer weather, Montréal Cirque Fest was unforgettable, well worth the visit, and more than 425 000 attendees joined in on the fun. To add to the festivities, Montréal continues to provide a plethora of world-famous dining destinations (Schwartz’s, La Banquise, Au Pied de Cochon); museums (Montréal Museum of Fine Arts); breweries (Dieu du Ciel!); and landmarks (Mount Royal Park, Notre-Dame Basilica, Old Montréal) to fill in free time. As an added bonus, Atlanta’s Hartfield-Jackson Airport offers numerous direct flights throughout the year, so traveling is even more convenient. This year’s Cirque Fest is slated for July 2-12, 2020 and we strongly suggest you consider this your summer getaway to Quebec’s largest city, Montréal! Montréalcompletementcirque.com/en.

Save the dates for other notable festivals include Mondial de la bière de Montréal (May 21 - 24); Festival International de Jazz de Montréal (June 25 - July 4); and Just For Laughs Festival (July 15 - 26). April 2020 | Perimeter North Lifestyle

CULINARY CREATIONS

Meatless Monday! ROASTED CAULIFLOWER STEAK WITH TOASTED FARRO, RAINBOW CHARD, AND WALNUT PESTO

INGREDIENTS + 1 head cauliflower + Extra-virgin olive oil + 3 sprigs fresh thyme + 2 sprigs fresh rosemary + 1 cup dry farro + Water + ½ cup diced onion + 12 cloves garlic + 1 ½ cups Spanish olive oil + 3 cups walnut pieces + 1 tablespoon kosher salt + 1 teaspoon ground black pepper + 1 bunch rainbow chard + Kosher salt. ground black pepper to taste DIRECTIONS Slice cauliflower into three “steaks,” 1 to 1 ½ inches thick. (Do not use any pieces that fall apart.) Combine olive oil, thyme, and rosemary, pour over steaks and rub to coat. Marinate for a minimum of 2 hours or overnight. Heat a cast-iron skillet over medium heat. Season the cauliflower steaks with salt and pepper and brown, 5 to 7 minutes on each side. Transfer to a preheated oven and roast until tender, 25 to 30 minutes. Toast the farro in a dry skillet over medium heat for 5 minutes, shaking the skillet or stirring constantly. Transfer to a medium saucepan and cover with an inch of water. Add the diced onion and cook until all the water is absorbed and the farro is al dente. Season with salt and set aside. For the pesto, combine the garlic cloves and olive oil in a small saucepan and simmer until the garlic is browned and fragrant. Remove from heat. Toast the walnut pieces for 2 to 3 minutes in the oven or a dry skillet. Transfer to the bowl of a food processor and pulse until roughly ground. Add the cloves and process to a dry paste. Slowly drizzle the olive oil in while processing to form a thick pesto. Season with salt and pepper and set aside. Heat the olive oil in a saute pan, add the chard, and cook until wilted. Season with salt and pepper.

RECIPE FROM VINO VENUE

Plate the sautéed chard, top with ½ cup of the cooked farro and one cauliflower steak. Top with a generous portion of the walnut pesto and allow the heat of the cauliflower steak to soften the pesto, which will serve as the “sauce” for the farro.
