SENECA VALLEY BREAKS GROUND ON NEW AQUATICS CENTER The Seneca Valley School District's new aquatics center being built adjacent to the Intermediate High School has broken ground. It is replacing the current pool, which is 54 years old. It is scheduled for completion in the spring. District officials believe this will be an asset to the entire community. The larger pool and surrounding area will aid in the growth of programs for special needs students, help with activities like kayaking, and offer quieter classroom space for CPR education. The facility hopes to benefit students and community members alike. 12

JULIO CLAVIJO-ALVAREZ, MD, HELPS PATIENTS FEEL THEIR BEST WITH COSMETIC AND MEDICAL TREATMENTS AT RENOVA PLASTIC SURGERY & MEDICAL SPA
FOR OVER 10 YEARS IN PRACTICE, JULIO CLAVIJO-ALVAREZ, MD, HAS BEEN PROVIDING SATISFIED PATIENTS WITH THE AESTHETIC RESULTS THAT THEY ARE LOOKING TO ACHIEVE. His warm and inviting demeanor, as well as his impressive background in the medical field, has made him one of Pittsburgh’s top plastic surgeons. After finishing his training in plastic and reconstructive surgery at the University of Pittsburgh, Dr. ClavijoAlvarez opened ReNova Plastic Surgery & Medical Spa. Walking into ReNova, you immediately feel a sense of relaxation and serenity. The beautiful office feels like you are in the comfort of your own home with sleek, modern touches and a spacious layout. Each and every procedure and service offered at ReNova truly is customized and designed on an individual basis. “At ReNova, we take a comprehensive approach with each patient, first and foremost,” says Dr. Dr. Clavijo-Alvarez. “Therefore, we take into consideration each patients’ individual goals, social needs, and time commitment in regard to the different types of treatments we offer, both invasive and non-invasive.” The procedures and services that ReNova offers are extensive and range depending on what a client wants or needs. “When talking with a patient who is looking for some sort of facial rejuvenation, for instance, factors such as age and time commitment come into play,” Dr. Clavijo-Alvarez continues. “So, after speaking with them, we design a treatment that can include many different things to fit their needs, such as microdermabrasion, micro-needling, chemical peels, and fraxel laser or fractional CO2 laser treatments,” he says. “We also offer things that will improve the quality of the skin or fullness of the face, such as fillers, or for wrinkle control, muscle relaxers or Botox®.” For a more permanent result, patients have the option to turn to more invasive facial treatments, such as eyelid surgery, or a facelift or neck lift. Another popular procedure at the spa is rejuvenation of the breasts. “For these patients, we offer breast augmentation with silicone implants and also breast lifts, which is the removal of the excess skin to try to get more rounded and youthful looking breasts,” Dr. Clavijo-Alvarez says. the abdomen,” says Dr. Clavijo-Alvarez. In addition to ReNova’s surgical services, they also have an array of medical spa services as well. “We have our esthetician who provides services from facial pampering with dermaplaning, peels, micro-needling, intensive pulse light laser treatments, micro-blading, and aging spots and sun damage treatments,” continues Dr. Clavijo-Alvarez. Just in time for the holidays, aging spots and sun damage treatments are some of the most popular procedures done in the fall at ReNova. “Patients, prior to the holidays, usually come-in for Botox®, fillers, and after the summertime, treatment for sun damage to the skin,” Dr. Clavijo-Alvarez says. “So, we do a lot of reversal to those damages. Plus, we also have an anti-aging kit that we recommend people start to use before they even have any kind of in-office procedure because it just kind of helps to prepare the skin so that they wind up with the best result.” Ultimately, Dr. Clavijo-Alvarez and his team at ReNova work hard to provide the best plan of action for a patient’s cosmetic procedure and ensure that the patient is satisfied with their result. “It’s all a part of really getting to know our clients and working with them one-on-one to create a comprehensive plan and setting an achievable goal,” Dr. Clavijo exclaims. “Seeing my clients feeling their best is the greatest result for me.” RENOVA PLASTIC SURGERY & MEDICAL SPA 101 Fowler Road, Suite G, Warrendale 412.638.2391, ReNova-PlasticSurgery.com

Holidays Become Memories TWO OF THE MOST ENJOYABLE TIMES OF THE YEAR ARE TRAVELING AND THE HOLIDAYS; WHY NOT COMBINE THE TWO?
A view of the decorated street from inside the historic Hotel Bethlehem
ARTICLE JASON SOLAK
26
Pittsburgh North Lifestyle | November 2019
AS THE HOLIDAY SEASON APPROACHES, SO DOES THE TIME WHERE WE BEGIN TO PLAN OUT WHAT THIS YEAR WILL BRING WITH IT. When we look back on our lives, some of our most memorable moments both on film (or computers and phones) and in our minds are those times we spent with loved ones. Often times those moments were spent either traveling or during the holidays. If you are looking to double-down this year and do both, we have a suggestion for you! On the other side of the state, about a five-hour drive— which is both far enough to feel like a getaway but close enough that it can be made with only a stop or two— lies the aptly named town of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Located in the Lehigh Valley region of Eastern Pennsylvania, this town is such a great place to visit during the holidays that it is actually referred to as “The Christmas City.” Although it offers much more than just holiday attractions, for this article, we will just be focusing on a few of its seasonal offerings and more importantly the iconic Hotel Bethlehem, one of the top historic hotels in the country (ranked No. 3 by USA Today). The Historic Hotel Bethlehem is synonymous with charm and wonder during the holiday season. Located in downtown Bethlehem, the hotel boasts a spectacular display of more than 35,000 Christmas lights, a multitude of uniquely decorated Christmas trees, 36 wreaths, six 7-foot toy soldiers, two life-size nutcrackers and a gingerbread house modeled after the hotel itself. Other features of the hotel include the main lobby built in 1922; The Tap Room, which is festive with holiday spirit and oversized lighted ornaments; the Mural Ballroom named for the outstanding murals painted in 1936 by famed American artist George Gray and tell the story of Bethlehem from the walking purchase of William Penn into the Industrial Age; a glistening 15-foot tree and wreaths emulating the Christmas spirit; the on-site restaurant 1741 On the Terrace; the “Christmas in the Garden” themed room recently restored to replicate the original solarium concept of 1922; and the Grand Ballroom decorated to complement the opulence and historic nature of the building. The hotel is in close proximity to all the great things Bethlehem has to offer this time of year. Plan to visit museums, the famous Christkindlmarkt, choose from a variety of carriage rides and walking tours, and of course, view all of the amazing Christmas lights. TR ADITIONAL K ITCHEN In this kitchen renovation, we used classic shapes and details that felt in step with a 1900’s era home. Then, we turned up the heat by using a bronze-black metallic backsplash, stylish brass hardware and lighting, and sumptuous gold velvet accents. These are set off perfectly by the deep black on the cabinetry and the stunning quartz countertops. Even the mudroom got a touch of drama by incorporating these finishes.

ECLECTIC M ASTER SUITE In this eclectic master suite, there are influences of modern, organic, and Asian design styles blended together. The bedroom’s headboard and platform bed use opulent materials like seashell, leather, and ebony wood to create a dramatic and romantic space. In the connecting bathroom, we continued some of these elements, but also introduced limestone, copper, and slate. The dry riverbed and manzanita tree are sculptural elements that connect the indoors with the outdoors and create a soothing, spa-like mood.

CONTEMPOR ARY CINEM A & W INE BAR In this modern wine bar and cinema space, the cabinetry is in a high gloss metallic bronze, with dark ebony surrounds. The soft colors of the countertops and papered walls offset that nicely, and the softness of the leather and velvet upholstery balances the metallic tones of the fireplace and screening area. Add a little bit of sparkle from some a stunning chandelier, and voila – a stunning modern yet warm space that sets the mood for a perfect night in.
