ELENA

NIEJELOW

AND

SVETLANA SOKOLOVA OPENED SOKAYRI ATELIER AND BOUTIQUE, FEBRUARY 2018, IN THE HEART OF DARIEN. They welcomed their already existent private clients and brought the women in Connecticut the long lost art of custom dressmaking, bringing it to a totally new level. SOKAYRI follows the good old school of tailoring, where the quality is the main goal of the process, but they use the modern technics, constantly learning, improving, and keeping their fingers on the pulse of the fast pacing fashion trends. They started as a two-women show, where Elena was on the business, and Svetlana on the design side. 18

Greenwich Lifestyle | September 2020

Both women share a passion for fashion, beautiful fabrics and what can be created with them in a manner that the woman who wears that creation feels comfortable, beautiful, and confident. Only skillfully hand crafted and stitched with love can be as fine as Svetlana’s stitching. Now, 3 years later, they have a team of 5 seamstresses, who passed a rigorous selection and quality of workmanship tests to comply with demanding Svetlana’s expectations. Being better artists than business ladies, they care more for quality rather than for optimization and cutting corners for profit. The process of creating of a new garment is always magical, it is personal, where you are creating something unique, which reflects the personality of that particular individual it is intended for. Svetlana designs and creates a wide range of women’s clothes from suits and separates, to leather garments and coats; from casual dresses to exquisite evening gowns and tuxedos, custom accessories and so much more. When it comes to the design of your new garment, the process is personal. From a conversation Svetlana will create a sketch to put your vision to paper, then the custom pattern. The process of hand-making bespoke clothing requires several meticulous fittings to insure a flawless fit, during which Svetlana and Elena will get to know you better, learn about your dressing preferences, discuss your preparations to the big event you are getting ready for. Elena says that one of the best pieces to invest in is a quality jacket or coat made from cashmere or wool. The right fit and design combined with the best fabrics will create a coat you can wear for years. SOKAYRI offers a vast selection of the world’s finest luxury fabrics from the best European mills: Loro Piana, Holland and Sherry, Gladson, to name just a few, and will source for any particular color or print you desire for the design and style of your choice. For some there is a beloved coat that has worn away and needs to be recreated. For others there is a coat they fall in love with the look, but it just doesn’t fit correctly. Elena and Svetlana work with their clients to create pieces they will feel amazing in and love for years to come. SOKAYRI is also the answer to the age old problem of finding a top in the perfect shade to match your favorite skirt or pants. They a variety of ready to wear items that can be made in the fabric and color of your choosing. Besides custom dressmaking, SOKAYRI offers a full range of alterations, restyling, repurposing, and recuts. Your pass-me-down wedding gowns, adjustments of your favorite pieces after weight loss, hemming and taking in (or out) of your new elsewhere purchased garments, adding sleeves to a dress or cutting a fur coat into a trendy vest, the sky is the limit.

WE REACHED OUT TO A FEW OF OUR FAVORITE WOMEN IN GREENWICH TO FIND OUT WHAT THEY PLAN TO WEAR THIS UP COMING FALL.

cristie reid

Aside from being a busy wife and mom of two young children in Riverside, Cristie is a senior executive at a large pharmaceutical company. “It’s very rewarding to work for a company that helps improve the quality of life for millions of people around the world by getting the most efficacious medications into patients hands.” In her free time Cristie’s “outlet” is teaching a group fitness classes on a cross trainer at Club Sweat in Old Greenwich. After being a present mom and wife, fitness and fashion are very important to her. DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE IN 3 WORDS. Classic, clean with a little flare WHAT’S YOUR WARDROBE MVP? Great fitting jeans, a silk blouse and jewelry TRADEMARK ACCESSORY? A nice time piece with a big face. ONE PIECE YOU’RE BUYING FOR FALL TO UPDATE YOUR LOOK? Shiny metallic down jacket WHAT WOULD YOU NEVER WEAR? Black to a wedding. This is a happy occasion. DAYTIME UNIFORM? Pencil skirt with a tight, yet high neck or collared top. Tasteful enough to bring me to evening drinks with clients or friends, casual enough to take my heels off and throw on time flip flops and let my hair down. DO YOU WEAR A FAVORITE PIECE TO DEATH? Earrings! I feel bare without them. 20

Greenwich, CT with a Ukrainian background, Olga is a former Miss Teen USA, Miss USA and a Miss Ukraine Universe contestant. She merged her love for the beauty, fashion and fragrance industry with her marketing and finance degree and experience to launch Lola & Leone in town at McArdle’s Florist and Garden Center. Lola & Leone has both meaning and purpose for Olga; combining the name of a friend who tragically drowned in her early twenties

olga li tvinenko

with Olga’s Spanish nickname. Through this brand, Olga aims to make a positive impact... ‘one scent at a time.’ Lola & Leone has a signature perfume and scented candles available for purchase online and in local stores. When Olga isn’t working you’ll find her spending time with family and friends, traveling and staying physically active by taking long runs, playing tennis, horseback riding, strength training and enjoying the pleasures nature has to offer. Olga is also a movie buff and finds herself binging on tv shows once in a while. TRADEMARK ACCESSORY? Lola & Leone’s signature scented fragrance. It’s that small piece of luxury I turn to in order to pump up my mood and make me feel elevated. It also leaves the perfect impression everywhere I go as it is fresh, clean and sophisticated. GO TO EVENING LOOK? A dress and heels. I love the process that goes into having an evening look too; Hair styling, makeup, accessories and jewels. A blowout goes a long way, but If I don’t have much time to spare then a slicked back pony-tail with clean makeup does the trick.

a smile is the best accessory you can wear! IT’S THE FIRST THING PEOPLE SEE AND A GREAT WAY TO MAKE A FIRST IMPRESSION TO HELP BUILD PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL RELATIONSHIPS! A bright, beautiful smile attracts people in and can really transform a person while boosting their self-confidence. Many of us aren’t born with the perfect smile and need some help from the experts to achieve those pearly white teeth. That is why it is so important to not only visit a dentist, but that you also choose one carefully. You want to choose a dentist that you can trust, one who genuinely cares for your oral wellness, one who is highly trained, skilled and knowledgeable. The most beautiful smiles are also the healthiest ones. Did you know one of the country’s premier cosmetic dentists is right here in Greenwich? There is no need to travel to New York City to receive the best care. Dr. George Tsangaroulis, of Greenwich Cosmetic & Family Dentistry offers beautiful, world class cosmetic dentistry with

26

Greenwich Lifestyle | September 2020

a comprehensive, complete health approach. As the Official Cosmetic Dentist of Miss Connecticut USA, his unique style and approach places an emphasis on function, airway, jaw and TMJ health to not only have a beautiful result, but to optimize long term health and durability. Dr. George has trained and worked with many of the top clinicians in the world, including the inventor of the porcelain veneer at NYU College of Dentistry. Dr. George’s integrative approach blends a patient’s input with his expertise thus creating a complete collaborative method. He listens to his patients’ needs and desires, creating the space to allow for an interactive and hands-on experience. The treatment you receive is always taken seriously, but don’t be misled! The office environment is always fun and relaxing and if you’re lucky you may even catch Dr. George bust a dance move! Invisalign and teeth whitening are great for patients who are pleased with the shape and size of their teeth, and would just like to have them straightened and whitened. This is done using a digital 3D scanner rather than the gooey impression material, and whitening gel can be applied inside the Invisalign aligners. On the other hand, some patients dislike the shape and color of their teeth, have chipping, wear and bite issues. In this case Dr. George can address these concerns with a smile makeover by using porcelain veneers or direct composite bonding. Dr. George makes beautiful veneers that look natural, and are customized to fit each individuals’ facial features creating the “Perfectly imperfect smile”. During the planning process, Dr. George uses a digital smile design to allow the patient to see what he is envisioning for them. After collaborating on the desired anticipated outcome, a trial-smile is created in order for the patient to “test drive” and approve their new smile! Through all of these steps Dr. George works to keep his patients happy and healthy. One additional feature to the care received is that the airway, jaw joints and muscles are all evaluated before any treatment is recommended, hence his approach of “Functionally-driven cosmetic dentistry”. This preventative measure will ensure that all patients will be thrilled and comfortable with their beautiful, healthy new smiles for many years to come.

some tips from dr. george to keep a smile healthy at home: TIP 1 Floss before you brush or use a Waterpik. Many studies have found that it can be just as effective as flossing! TIP 2 Invest in a good, chargeable electric toothbrush. Sonicare and Oral-B are the most effective. TIP 3 Don’t clench your teeth. We all have those moments throughout the day when something stresses us and you clench without realizing it. Try taking some deep breaths instead, this will not only be good for your teeth and jaw but for your mind. Dr. George always tells his patient to remember when at rest, “Lips together, teeth apart”. TIP 4 Be careful overusing whitening toothpastes. They are highly abrasive and can actually damage your enamel and cause the opposite effect over time - staining. You can Make your own at-home whitening toothpaste: + 3% Hydrogen Peroxide 1/2 teaspoon + Baking soda 1 teaspoon This can be used to not only help whiten your teeth, but also promote healthier gums and improve your smile. Hydrogen peroxide even destroys coronavirus. Follow Dr. George on Instagram @greenwich_dentist, and Facebook - Greenwich Cosmetic and Family Dentistry for more great tips, educational updates and beautiful Before & Afters, especially Miss Connecticut USA’s recent smile makeover! 28

VITAMIN A IS ESSENTIAL TO PROTECTING THE CORNEAS OF OUR EYES. By taking care of your corneas, you can extend the health of your eyesight and reduce vision loss with age. An easy way to remember what to eat for healthy eyes is to look for orange foods. Carrots, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, and butternut squash are all high in vitamin A.

Did you know that vitamin A is also imperative for skin health? So while you’re caring for your corneas, you’re also boosting your outer glow. If you want to kick it up a notch, be intentional about eating plenty of foods with omega-3 fatty acids to reduce acne and inflammation and help your skin produce its own collagen. For your healthy fats, go for flax seed, walnuts, chia seeds, and fish.

H E A LT H Y HAIR SALMON /// EGGS /// For soft, flowing tresses, make sure you’re getting an equal amount of B vitamins in your diet. We naturally get plenty of B-6 because it’s in most grains, but it’s easier to end up with a biotin or B-12 deficiency if you don’t pay attention. Focus on foods like salmon, eggs, spinach, and broccoli for a healthy balance of B vitamins for your hair.

Everything was absolutely perfect! I couldn’t have imagined it any better. The next day, every single guest sent a text saying how amazing the caterers were. You did such a great clean up you would have never known there was a party. Thank you for doing such a wonderful job and making my job so easy. It was such a treat to be a guest at my own party! —A MY S . , N E W C A N A A N
