eMy work is intended to inantaneously immerse the viewer into the visual and emotional energies that I have devoted to each piece. Depending on onees ability and willingness to be guided by the senses, these paintings can lead one away from the mind and into an alternate and self-made reality filled with cor and feeling. My new series features original and different mixed media such as BB Gun Pellets. I love working with different mediums, because they change in the light and I can manipulate the textures and layering; thus affording each piece movement and energy from the reflecting and refracting light. - Sara Conca

Sara Conca is a contemporary abstract artist of French-Italian descent. She has sold her works to many collectors in Europe, Asia, and the United States. Her paintings can be found in private chateaus and hotel lobbies in France, as well as in many exclusive celebrity homes and museums. By the age of 17, Sara was living and working in Paris. A life changing experience that reinforced her need for movement, energy and art. While in Paris, Sara studied sculpture at Ateliers D’Art De St Maur Des Fosses, and further continued her education in South Florida as an assistant of the critically lauded artist Purvis Young. Sara Conca has spent her last 18 years in Manhattan, Living solely off her painting sales, Extensive international travels, and the influence of New York City has given her an insightful appreciation for her ever- changing environments and settings, as well as heavily influencing her. Sara Conca has returned to her roots in Florida, which has inspired her to create a fresh aquatic mystical series involving natural mixed media such as raw silver dust, brass key shavings, mica flakes, natural crystals, raw pigments, BB Gun pellets and 18k gold leafing.

ARTICLE MARTI SCHNURR WITH LETTY SANCHEZ PHOTOGRAPHY NAOMI HUFF

FASHION FORWARD Original Designs by Letty Sanchez

Boca Style | September 2020

WHEN DID YOU FIRST REALIZE YOU WANTED TO PURSUE A CAREER AS A DESIGNER? As a college student, I didn't believe that I could make a living as a designer in the small town of Stuart, FL. I majored in other

As a child, Local Fashion Designer Letty Sanchez dreamed of rolling around in beautiful fabrics

things in college until one day I showed up with tears in my eyes to see the school counselor. I told him I was desperate. I kept changing my major and as a young single mother I needed to make a decision and fast. He asked what I really wanted to do? "I want to be a fashion designer but i’ll never make any money here in Stuart." He pulled his chair closer to me and looked me dead in my eyes and said, “if that’s what you want, then you will find the way to make the money.” That was all I needed to hear. WHAT DOES FASHION MEAN TO YOU? Fashion to me means the opportunity to transform my feelings at any given time. It can take me from sad, bored, ugly into an unstoppable, confident or fun and adventurous being within minutes. It also allows me to put a magic spell on my clients just by dressing them in something that changes their perception about themselves. It truly is like magic. WHERE DOES THE INSPIRATION FOR YOUR DESIGNS COME FROM? Most often my inspiration comes from current events. Fashion is a sign of the times and we as artists use whats happening in politics, religion, rock n’ roll or even a pandemic to influence the ideas and details that are incorporated into our design pieces. My fav artist is Salvadore Dali. His warped perception of objects have made me wonder so often. I could think about it for hours. We also share the same birthdate. WHAT IS THE BEST PART ABOUT BEING A FASHION DESIGNER? The experience of creating something with my very own hands is thrilling to me. To manipulate shape and fit which is guided by my own vision is an incredible talent to share with my students and clients. Teaching my students to become designers and witnessing their happiness in their new found talent fills me with an overwhelming feeling of gratitude. I'm doing something very meaningful.

WHAT ROLE DO YOU THINK SOCIAL MEDIA PLAYS IN FASHION TODAY? Social media gives designers the opportunities to brand their name and get ahead in the industry. I'm not however an advocate of this generation depending soley on social media. at THOS we teach our students to think and work like entrepreneurs. You must be multifaceted and be resourceful - it’s worth more than money. IF YOU COULD GO BACK AND TELL YOURSELF ONE THING, BEFORE BEGINNING YOUR CAREER AS A FASHION DESIGNER, WHAT WOULD IT BE? Two things: #1 Don’t get into major student debt for a fashion degree if you don’t have to. It’s not necessary. What you need is SKILL and a well rounded education/training. #2 - Perfectionism will kill you. I missed out on opportunities because I needed everything to be so incredibly perfect. WHAT HAS BEEN THE BEST DESIGN TREND IN THE LAST 5 TO 10 YEARS? AND THE WORST? The best trend in fashion are the 3D printed designer dresses by Iris Van Herpen. I think they are revolutionary. The worst in fashion is the fact that fashion is the worlds third largest pollutor. We must change this and it starts with all fashion students. THOS make our students very aware that its in their hands as future designers to make that change. WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO OPEN THE THOS FASHION SCHOOL OF DESIGN? I opened THOS because I wanted to offer an alternative to a traditional expensive art college. I wanted to bridge the gap for those students who want to break into the business but needed the guidance and the training in a no-nonsense environment. ST YLE. HOW TO DEVELOP YOURS! “IF SOMETHING GENUINELY APPEALS TO US, MAKES US COMFORTABLE, HELPS US FEEL ATTRACTIVE, AND UNDERSTOOD, THEN IT’S FOR US!“ OUR PERSONAL STYLE IS SO MUCH MORE THAN OUR CLOTHES. It’s our hygiene. It’s the way we interact with people. It’s how we treat our family and friends. It’s how we decorate our home, as well as the way we take care of it. It’s the car we drive and how it looks inside. We show our style even through the way we wrap a present. Of course we don’t take all of those things around with us; but our clothes make us a walking billboard. They’re an expression and message to ourselves and others. It’s important we’re communicating what we want to say to all of us. Our fashion and personal style should always feel “authentic” to us. Otherwise, it makes us feel awkward, phony, and uncomfortable. Our goal with our style and clothing should be to make us feel beautiful and comfortable. 22

Boca Style | September 2020

Author Sharon Caldwell-Peddie

ARTICLE SHARON CALDWELL PEDDIE PHOTOGRAPHY ASHLEY TAYLOR Our personal style evolves as we do; and thank goodness, because if you’re like me, we’ve fallen prey to some pretty silly trends. There are always new ones and it’s fun to explore them through designers, magazines, Pinterest, bloggers, and influencers. At any age, it’s a great way to keep yourself current. However, it’s really important we view them through our personal lens. They may get you excited but unless it fits your personality, lifestyle, body shape, and comfort level, it will be working against your self confidence. We want our clothes to work with us in building confidence. I’ve always loved the sentiment “confidence is our greatest accessory”! I truly believe if something genuinely appeals to us, makes us comfortable, helps us feel attractive, and understood, then it’s for us! So let that criteria help you while you shop and develop your style. It might be the latest trend, but it also might just be something in “your color”. If it fits you and your vibe just right, that is when you will rock the look! People admire the style of people who know who they are and dress like it. That’s your true fashion trend to follow. Starting a board on Pinterest is a great way to start exploring your personal style. You can put categories in the search bar such as “jeans” or “yellow tops” and pin the ones that feel like you. Pretty soon you’ll have a whole board of fashion inspiration! OUR TOWN

Here Comes The Bride ARTICLE LAUREN RODRIGUE PHOTOGRAPHY AMANDA PAIGE

SAY YES TO THE DRESS! SAYING YES TO THE DRESS IS A MOMENT ALL BRIDES DREAM OF. Here are five tips on how to know when you have found the perfect one! 1. TRY ON EVERYTHING You may go into dress shopping with one silhouette—or even one specific dress—in mind that you’re pretty sure will look fabulous. But, don't cheat yourself out of seeing what the rest of the Wedding World may offer. Try on least one dress in every silhouette and make sure to be a little adventurous and try on styles you’d normally not gravitate to. It’s important to do this because you’ll never find a perfect dress if you don’t get a sampling of all of what’s out there—your favorite one could be a lace mermaid, but you’d never know it if all you tried on were satin ballgowns. 26

Boca Style | September 2020

Owner of Amazing Bridal Couture, Jackie Noe and Bride Ashley S.

2. GET A FEEL FOR WHAT YOU DON’T LIKE. You’ll never be able to find a dress you really love if you don’t know what you really don’t love. Sounds kind of negative, but it’s true! Eliminating entire categories, styles, fabrics and embellishments of dresses will also help to prevent those “What if I got that dress instead?” moments many brides experience after buying a gown when they see a pretty dress and suddenly wonder if they made a huge mistake. 3. SHOP LIKE YOU MEAN IT. Don’t go into a dress shop half heartedly or you just might leave empty-handed. If you have a mindset of, “I am just looking today,” or “I feel bloated and hideous today!” all of these emotions will be counterintuitive to your goal to find the perfect wedding dress. Part of shopping like you mean it means showing up at the boutique with everything you need—strapless bra, shoes in the height and general style you’re thinking, any accessories that you feel are non-negotiable, like heirloom earrings. Another part? Feeling confident and focused. This could mean getting your hair blown out the day you go shopping, doing your makeup a little more extra than you’d normally do on a Saturday afternoon. 4. TAKE PICTURES. You’ll want snaps of all of your favorite try-ons. Pictures help us see ourselves differently than the way we see ourselves in a mirror—and they’ll give you plenty to ruminate over if you’re not ready to purchase but strongly leaning toward one or a few options. 5. KNOW WHEN IT’S TIME TO SAY “YES!” When you try on the dress that will ultimately be yours, you should feel is beautiful, excited, and ready. You should feel ready to stop shopping, ready to make this commitment, and ready to make your big debut as a bride dressed in this gown. If all that feels right (bonus points if your mom is crying somewhere in the dressing room), then, congrats, you found a perfect dress! *Amazing Brides Couture is a bridal gown boutique based in Boca Raton, Florida. Owner Jackie Noe and her family have experience in the bridal industry dating back to 1985. Jackie grew up surrounded by celebrations — sweet sixteens, weddings, and more — and began focusing on bridal gowns as a young woman. She was mentored by David Abadi, an expert in the bridal industry who has comparable experience, and has been driven by her passion and the joy she takes in fulfilling a couple's dreams. DESIGNS OFFERED Amazing Brides Couture offers a range of high-end designer dresses, so you're sure to find the gown of your dreams among them, including Morilee, BLU, Voyagé, AF Couture, and Julietta. ARTICLE BOBBY SAMMARCO | PHOTOGRAPHY 47 FILMS

BOBBY SAMMARCO IS A PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHER AND THE CREATIVE DIRECTOR OF 47 FLIMS. We are happy to share with our readers his tips for taking high quality pics with your iPhone! TAKING PHOTOS If you are not taking photos outside in bright sunlight, try to position your subject near a large light source like a window or sliding glass door. Try to not let your subject stand up against a wall. Having a few steps between them and the backdrop can help limit harsh shadows behind them. Do your best to frame your subject in an interesting way. Examples of this can be positioning your phone above your subject and shoot downward. Anything that isn’t taken at eye level perspective stands out. EDITING The iPhone does a great job capturing a high quality image. Simple cropping and the raising or lowering of exposure through the highlights and or shadows is totally acceptable. If you’re not careful though, the image can start to look unnatural very quickly, so keep it simple! SHARING When sharing photos taken with your iPhone to other iPhone users, it’s best to AirDrop them. AirDropping an image retains the full image quality when being sent to another iPhone. If you’re not near the person you’re sharing with, the phone takes a high enough quality image that even when it is compressed in a text message, it’s still retains its image quality when being sent. PRINTING The fastest and easiest way to print photos from your iPhone is to utilize the Air Print feature. If you have an air print capable printer, pressing the share button on your photo will reveal the option to print wirelessly from your phone. If you do not have an air print ready printer, you can also email the photo to yourself and print from a computer. Follow Bobby Sammarco on instagram @ _47films
