We’re shining a spotlight on four local leading ladies who are successful business owners: Susan Salisbury, Gina Speegle, Ashley Gardner, and Leslie Brewer. Each woman is giving us a peek into the inspiration behind why they do what they do each day and love it! We also have the pleasure of to know Danielle Batchelor, owner of Graceful Mornings, as she uses her passion to encourage and inspire others by designing elegant, scripture-based mugs. As we look forward to a summer filled with exciting adventures, health experts Dr. Beth Flack of Flack Family Chiropractic and Shantà Johnson of Essential Cleansing Center will give us advice on making sure we keep our bodies in great shape to handle all the fun!

“If you have a subluxation (misalignment) of a bone, then it’s like having your cell phone in a spotty service area,” explains Dr. Beth. “There’s a problem with the communication. The brain can’t communicate to the nerve system, the nerve system can’t communicate to the organ. As a chiropractor, I come in and remove that subluxation, allowing the brain to communicate to the body.” Ultimately, both experts agree that taking great care of our body all year is the key to having a great summer! AS A GROWING AND BUSTLING COMMUNITY, EVANS IS BLESSED WITH GREAT BUSINESSES AND FABULOUS BUSINESS OWNERS! This month, we have the privilege of getting to know four local business-owning women and what inspires them to do what they do. Each woman comes from a unique background with unique experiences, and now they unite in Evans to serve our community with their special talents and services.

When REALTOR Susan Salisbury moved to the Evans area, she left her nursing education career and gave her full focus to the real estate industry. However, as Susan explains, the two aren’t completely unrelated. “I feel my nursing skills are comparable to my real estate skills, like

ASHLEY GARDNER + BOUDOIR BY ASHLEY + PHOTOGRAPHY After moving from California to Georgia, Ashley Gardner says, “I wanted to establish myself with family photography so that people knew who I was and trusted me before jumping into something a little more intimate and personal.” Last year, she opened Boudoir by Ashley and transitioned to full-time boudoir photography. “It’s my favorite genre,” she shares. “I love being able to empower women and allow them to see themselves in a way that they might not see themselves normally,” explains Ashley. “A lot of my clients are moms or nurses…women who give of themselves to others all the time. To allow them to do something for themselves is why I do it.” Ashley’s inspiration is wanting her kids “to be able to see that their mom did something she was passionate about and enjoyed. I do it for them to be able to look at me and say, ‘Wow! She made a difference; she did something for other people, and

she loved what she did.’”
LESLIE BREWER + BIJOUX + COE + ONLINE WOMEN’S CLOTHING BOUTIQUE Bijoux + Coe owner Leslie Brewer knew that opening a women’s clothing boutique would be a perfect fit for her and her family. She says, “I love to shop and to dress other people – that’s fun for me. And it’s something I thought would be fun for my three older girls and me to do together. We go to market together, shop together, and pick our purchases together.” “We sell fun women’s clothing,” says Leslie. “We want women to feel great about what they’re wearing. Anything we can do to boost someone’s confidence we definitely want to be part of that.” For now, Bijoux + Coe is an online boutique with plans to open a storefront in Evans this year. “We love Columbia County. It’s our home,” says Leslie. “My kids have grown up in school here, and it’s the best place to be.” 14

LET’S TAKE CARE OF EACH OTHER. OUR LOCAL BUSINESSES NEED US MORE THAN EVER. IF THERE IS ONE THING THAT OUR COMMUNITY HAS DISCOVERED DURING THIS TIME, IT’S THAT WE ARE DETERMINED AND EXCELLENT AT SUPPORTING ONE ANOTHER. Whole neighborhoods have set up scavenger hunts to cheer up passersby, many have spent days creating homemade masks for medical workers, efforts to soften the loneliness of #socialdistancing have abounded, and locals have buckled down on frequenting their favorite businesses in order to keep them bustling. Local businesses have acted in kind, using their reach to benefit our community and serve their patrons. Store owners have taken it upon themselves to use their companies to boost morale, support those in need, and bring inventive solutions. Here are just a few of them.

LAWN LETTERS OF AUGUSTA BRINGS MORALE AND CHEER Lawn Letters of Augusta helped families make birthdays a little extra special while social distancing by offering special pricing on any installment. Lawn Letters also did the big job of cheering on our medical teams. In partnership with University Health, signs cheering on the “heroes” were installed where medical workers would see the encouraging words on the way to each shift.
MICHAEL AND WENDY PERRY HELP FAMILIES AND BUSINESSES GROW STRONGER Michael and Wendy Perry of Catalyst Executive Advising & Development have been devoting extra time to bolstering up local businesses, helping them brainstorm and navigate necessary changes with their Catalyst training program and with The Break Room, a Zoom meeting held twice per week.
KIMMY RAY PHOTOGRAPHY BRINGS SMILES TO FAMILIES WITH #THEFRONTSTEPSPROJECT
Things have been tough, and more time has been spent at home than most of us are used to. All of that time can help us see where our relationships need a little extra care. Every Monday at 7pm, you can interface with this power couple live via Facebook @themarriageshop. “It’s all about real marriage, real talk, where we explore questions and answers to some of the most common challenges in marriage,” shares Wendy. “We dig deep into God’s plan for marriage and invite you to join us on this journey.”
Kimmy Ray Photography participated in #TheFrontStepsProject. Kimmy is passionate about educating others on protecting themselves as well as those who are immunocompromised or otherwise vulnerable. In an effort to bring awareness to the importance of following social distancing guidelines, Kimmy provided Front Porch Mini Sessions for local families - all from a safe distance - and donated proceeds to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Kimmy shared, “I knew it would bring joy to those families who are secluded from the outside world.” Find Kimmy’s work at Facebook.com/AugustaGeorgiaPhotography.

how can you help our local businesses?
1.
Prepay and book. Many businesses out there are needing cash flow and a little hope on the horizon. Now is a great time to schedule a few services (for example: massage, dog grooming, house cleaning, etc...) that you already plan to use and pay them ahead of time.
2.
Buy gift cards. Missing your favorite restaurant or store? Imagine if they had to shut down permanently. One way that you can help prevent this is to buy gift cards. This solution is extra special because you can send them now to help someone who needs the boost, or you can hold onto it for the holiday season. It’s a triple-win either way.
3.
Shop locally online. With all of the changes and adjustments that have needed to take place, local businesses have shown their agility as they quickly restructured and found ways to shift from brick and mortar to web only. Reward that huge effort with going to them before you go to online stores lacking local roots.
4.

ENCOURAGEMENT CAN BE FOUND WITH THE FIRST SIP OF THE DAY “I’VE ALWAYS BEEN VERY PASSIONATE ABOUT ENCOURAGING AND INSPIRING OTHERS,” SAYS DANIELLE BATCHELOR, OWNER OF GRACEFUL MORNINGS. Her years of patient care as a medical social worker have taught her “so much about the power of prayer and that it’s not about taking pain away or saying the perfect things. It’s about being there and reminding people about the power of God’s love and how much of a difference it can make to lean into Him and bring Him into whatever you’re going through.” In 2018, Danielle felt led to open Graceful Mornings, an Etsy shop featuring elegant, scripture-based coffee mugs. She explains, “The mugs allow you to provide a loved one with a thoughtful, encouraging, and timeless gift at a time when they need it most.” They can also serve as a sweet reminder of special times spent together. Have a few of these in your own cupboard if you want sweet encouragement with every morning’s cup of tea or coffee. A local reader shared, “I immediately wanted the collection on hand in my kitchen because they carry truth that I need to hear; words are so powerful, and the tiniest line can set my heart and mind on life-giving thoughts and intentions.” Whether as a gift or a personal purchase, customers can order pre-designed mugs or request custom designs based on specific desires. To Danielle, each step of the process is an opportunity for ministry. “Whenever a customer places their order, I will engage with them and, if they want to, have them tell me a little about why they are purchasing a specific mug as a gift. They may share about a hardship their loved one is enduring. We connect through storytelling, words of encouragement, shared faith, and prayer.” Danielle also prays for the recipient of the mug during the designing process. She says, “My prayer has always been that my mugs will be used as a tool to spread God’s Word while providing hope, encouragement, peace, comfort, and everlasting joy - especially during seasons of hardship.” “That’s the heart behind it for me….to remind people that they are not alone,” says Danielle. “I’m so excited to see what difference God is going to make in this world. He’s allowing me to be the vehicle – all for His glory.” Ordering information can be found at Etsy.com/Shop/GracefulMornings. Also, find Graceful Mornings on Facebook and on Instagram at @gracefulmornings. 10% of proceeds are donated to True North Church in support of mission trips.
Danielle Batchelor founded Graceful Mornings with inspiration from Psalm 143:8 - “Let the morning bring word of Your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in You.” She says, “This verse is such a lovely reminder that mornings offer new beginnings.”
“MY PRAYER HAS ALWAYS BEEN THAT MY MUGS WILL BE USED A S A TOOL TO SPRE AD GOD’S WORD WHILE PROVIDING HOPE , ENC OURAGEMENT, PE ACE , COMFORT, AND EVERL A STING JOY ESPECIALLY DURING SE A SONS OF HARDSHIP.”

CHEF KELSEY BURACK SHARES HER MOM’S BANANA BREAD RECIPE AND HER PLANS FOR A FUTURE IN THE CULINARY SCENE
Steeped in family tradition, many of The Bottom Line Bakery’s items, like the Classic Banana Bread, are a nod to Kelsey’s time cooking with her Mom (Jeanine Burack) and Grandmother (Lorraine Linehan). Additionally, the bakery’s name honors her grandfather, former New York City Policeman Daniel Linehan. Kelsey recalls, ARTICLE MICHELLE W. PARNELL | PHOTOGRAPHY RANDY PACE
“At any given time, you would find all of us around Nan and Pop’s table until the latest hours of the night, solving the world’s problems. At the end of his motivational family talks, Pop would always say, ‘and that’s the bottom line,’ so Bottom Line Bakery is a great way to honor his memory.” The Bottom Line Bakery provides treats for any occasion. “Food is at the center of every celebration,” says Kelsey. “As a chef, it’s super important when someone comes to me and asks me to be a part of that. It’s something I take very seriously.” “With Bottom Line Bakery being so close to my heart, I’m hoping to bring forth food to remind people of their childhood days, past memories, and happy moments,” explains Kelsey. “I try to understand what my customer needs and make sure I’m honing in on bringing that nostalgia out in whatever products I’m providing for them.” Kelsey is also the recent winner of Food Network’s

WOMEN PLAY PIVOTAL AND IRREPLACEABLE ROLES IN OUR LIVES. They comfort, encourage, and trail-blaze, and they’re often cheering us on when our dreams are still just dreams. Every May and throughout the year, we look for great gifts to show gratitude to our favorite women. While a beautiful bouquet or a personalized bracelet may be exactly what her heart truly needs, a new additional trend in gifting is here for good: the gift of Spa Day. A spa day is just as it sounds: a day of blissful, head-to-toe pampering and space to relax. “When you send her to us,” says Rebekah Edwards, owner of Rosewater Spa and Wellness, “you are allowing our team to give her an experience, a chance to relax and just breathe.” A spa day is a time for self-care, for restoring and refueling, and for time spent checking in with herself or with some friends. Love someone? Giver her a spa day.

A Short 20 Minute Drive from Evans At Rocky Branch Golf Course you will enjoy the pace of play, the strategic layout, a friendly staff, and a spectacular clubhouse. On the front nine, you'll find friendlier fairways. Make the turn to the back nine and you'll see more trees that define the holes, making the fairways tighter, and the holes harder. The creek that goes through Rocky Branch invites you to hit over it five different times.
