ENTERING THE THE RIVER ISLAND HOME OF JASON AND GINA ADAMS, THE THRILLS OF CHRISTMAS ENVELOP YOU ALL AT ONCE. From the front door swags to the cozy porch fireplace, Christmas cheer fills the air. Interior designer Gina Speegle, the mastermind behind this beautiful wonderland, says that when decorating a home, several factors help determine the end result. She feels that it’s important to consider the size of the space, to choose colors that are pleasing to the homeowners, and to incorporate items sentimental to the family. She says, “I love taking things that are special to them and working to make the decor more personal and feel like their home. I use what they have and find new things to freshen up the look.” When it comes to Christmas décor, Gina Speegle prefers for each room theme to reflect the general function and purpose of the room. “I like the family room to be cozy,” Gina Speegle says, “for there to be a nice plump tree where every

ornament has a story, for it to have their children’s ornaments and things that are sentimental that they’ve collected over the years.” Gina Adams adds, “We have a few sets of Thomas Pacconi painted ornaments, and when the kids (Joshua and Jonah) were young, they each had their favorites to hang on the tree. We haven’t used them in years, so it was neat to see those emerge and be used again.” In the formal dining room, Gina Speegle likes a more elegant approach. “We put in a tall, skinny tree with gold decorations so that it will accent the beautiful painting by Debbie Real. It’s best to keep it simple. In the kitchen,” she continues, “we used a lot of the black and white buffalo plaid and mixed it with a little red.”

There’s a hot chocolate station that can be used all winter in the kitchen, and on the back porch, there is a fireplace, so Gina created a s’mores station that is ready for family and friends to use at any time. On having an interior designer, Gina Adams says, “Gina helps me add some color and patterns to keep things from being plain and boring. She always takes into account our tastes—to make sure it’s our style.” When asked which room is her favorite, she says, “It’s hard to pick!” The home was recently built by BEC Homes. Gina Speegle says, “When the builder does such a fabulous job, it makes an interior designer’s work so much less stressful.” Gina Speegle has been an interior designer in the Augusta area for 34 years. In 2019, Gina opened Gina Speegle Interiors. She and her intern, Abigail Schaefer, worked together on the Adams home. 18

PAUSE TO PRIMP “I STARTED THIS JOURNEY AS A CLIENT AT A BLOWDRY BAR IN FLORIDA,” SAYS PRIMP & BLOW OWNER, ERIN LIPTON. “I thought it was a fantastic idea, and that started three years of discovery with different brands.” In July, Erin opened the first Primp & Blow franchise on the East Coast, bringing something exciting and new to Evans! It’s not the typical hair salon. “We are a blow dry bar,” says Erin, “so we do not cut or color hair.” “Here, a client could come in, have a shampoo with a head massage, add a hair mask and then get a full blow out style. It’s a technique that our franchise created,” Erin explains. “We do brush setting. So we do a lot of the work with the round brush—creating volume and curl—and then we can polish with the hot tools if the client would like.” They also offer makeup applications, three different types of hair extensions and strip eye lashes. “We’re not just geared to events,” says Erin. “We prep people for events, and it’s fantastic, but we are an everyday stop as well.” Primp & Blow is prefect for new moms, people who are injured or recovering from surgery, or people who simply enjoy the process of someone else washing and styling their hair. When she was discovering brands, Erin says she fell in love with Primp and Blow’s tag line of “Confidence to go.” She says, “We have a very limited time to impact someone’s life, and we take that very seriously. When someone comes in, they are a priority to us.” Her impact goes beyond clients. After years as a photographer for traditional weddings and six years in the Army, Jeana had an epiphany that she wanted to “offer a different option for those couples who don’t want the stress that can come with traditional weddings.” She now focuses on non-traditional adventure elopements and intimate weddings. “The difference between an elopement and an intimate wedding,” says Jeana, “is that an elopement is essentially two people and an officiant saying vows to each other. She serves as a wedding planner and guide in addition to photographer, making sure all details fit their desires. She does the research on permits, paperwork, and finding officiants if needed—even for international wedding adventures. As the wedding approaches, Jeana arrives on location a day or two early to scout the exact setting, hiking routes, sunrise and sunsets, lighting, etc. She envisions and documents the whole experience, not just the ceremony. “If we’re hiking up a mountain,” Jeana says, “I’m photographing her putting on her hiking boots under her wedding dress, stops along the way, and intimate moments leading up to the vows.” With every detail attended to, the couple is free to soak in every moment, every glance, every breathtaking view together, even as they speak their vows and enjoy the start of their new journey.
