FIVE, FOUR, THREE, TWO, ONE! As we begin 2020, a new decade, we set goals for what we want our future selves to be like and look like. We take a glance back at where we have been and what we have done, and we try to remember to extend ourselves grace. January is a time to cleanse, to start fresh and not dwell on who we were 12 months ago. So much change can happen in a year, so as we plan our future and commit to resolutions, we also leave some room to change our minds—to grow and be human. Here at Austin Life, we are so proud of the growth in our community through the last year and cannot wait to see what is coming for 2020. As new businesses open, old businesses expand, charities fundraise and we all turn one year older, we will continue to be right there to share your stories and celebrate your milestones. Happy New Year, Austin Life. Thank you for being a part of our story.

SERIOUS I.T. SECURITY FOR SERIOUS CUSTOMERS. Need to make sure you are stepped up to the cyber age? Attacks against small and medium businesses are up 400%+ from last year because attackers know that you are the weak link. Hackers know that you are too busy running your business to effectively manage its security, and that most small IT shops are just installing antivirus, giving you a firewall, and hoping for the best. A good back up doesn’t help you when you are breached and your company data is sold on the darkweb.

SEATED NEAR THE CORNER OF 183 AND ANDERSON MILL ROAD, THERE’S AN UNASSUMING LITTLE SHOP THAT’S FOSTERING THE COMMUNITY PEOPLE DIDN’T KNOW THEY NEEDED. Husband and wife duo, Gene, and Elsie Dietrich are handselling, brand building, and changing people’s lives with their CBD retail business, Austin American Shaman. Day in and day out, customers walk in through the doors, citing actuate anxiety, body aches, depression, the symptoms run the gamut. But, instead of trying to push the hard sell, both Gene and Elsie are dedicated to a holistic approach to wellness, but also taking the time to make sincere, real connections with everyone coming into their shop. If you Google CBD, it’s a hot topic. People want to know more about its healing properties, what it can do for a gamut of symptoms, both physical and mental. Every major news organization is talking about CBD. The FDA is pushing testing further and further into the wellness spectrum, which extends far past a niche product but well into the mainstream. What keeps Gene and Elsie’s customers coming back again and again is their dedication to the people they meet. “Everyone here, we’re all a family. I care about these people. It’s not just our business, but this is our passion. There’s a lot of magic in CBD, and people are just now realizing it on a larger scale. Right now, it’s an exciting time to see all of the breakthroughs,” Gene said as he walked someone through a plan about nutrition and stress management rather than just trying to sell a jar of CBD salve. It’s these connections that have made Austin American Shaman a cornerstone of Austin’s emerging CBD community. The human body houses the endocannabinoid system (ECS), which involves regulating functions including sleep, appetite, pain and immune system response. The body produces endocannabinoids, which are neurotransmitters that bind to cannabinoid receptors in our nervous system.

NEW YEAR, NEW US. We don’t mean to be cliché, but is there really any better time for working on yourself than when Jan. 1 rolls around—whether you’re focused on your physical health or your mental health? It sure seems like the perfect time, but there will also be days when you’re just not quite feeling it. The holidays are over, the days are shorter and, let’s face it, there’s not really a ton to look forward to until spring sprouts. But, whatever your mood is this time of year, there’s still an activity you can do that’s worthwhile—and will give you a boost! Here’s how to choose the right one.
