me of summer, my Grandma’s picnics, and of my trip to Key West, and of dancing. And again I was transported instantly from the swirling of emotions and feelings - everything that only good food brings. From peach pies, to Buckeyes (a nod to her home state Ohio), key lime pies, cinnamon rolls, German chocolate pies, chocolate chip cookies and more, Courtney knows her Grandmother Frances is smiling down at her from heaven as she carries on the baking legacy. Due to the global pandemic, Courtney and her family decided that moving back home to Ohio was the right decision for now, and will miss the Dunwoody community dearly. And once she gets settled in Ohio, don’t be surprised if I’m the first on her list for mail-orders. Humbled knowing that at a time we all just needed to feel a little more love and comfort, Courtney was able to bake and deliver it boxed up with her from-scratch made-with-love Grandmother inspired creations. And I’m certain, her baking magic will make memories for future generations to come.

GIVING BACK (CONTINUED) farm in Kentucky with cows, mules, and chickens, at just 8 years old he proclaimed to his father that he was going to grow up to be a veterinarian. He recalls, “even at that young age I knew I wanted to help take care of animals.” Despite his small-town foundation, shortly after vet school, Dr. Morgan was quickly introduced to a big city feel and stories to match when he worked for two years in Las Vegas. He humbly recalls, as if just listing off items on a to-do list, “several of those Vegas star’s pets were in my care. Wayne Newton’s horse, Frank Sinatra’s wife’s dog, Mia Farrow’s pets, oh, and Betty Grable’s dog as well. She surprised me a bit because I had seen her pin-up photos before, but not her in person. I got a call from a Mrs. James (married to bandleader Harry James) wanting a house call for her dog. I about fell over when the door opened and I realized Betty Grable was standing in front of me in the flesh!” Other “what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas” stories also emerged that bring a chuckle out of Dr. Morgan even to this day. He recalls one specific emergency vet call at 2 am from a woman begging him to come right away. So he walked over to the clinic with his roommate and when he turned on the lights, he thought his eyes were playing tricks on him. He asked his roommate to go into the examining room and report what color the dog was. The roommate went in, came out, and said “that dog is GREEN!” Turns out it was St. Patrick’s Day and the woman had dyed her dog green to celebrate. Unfortunately, the dog was allergic to RIT dye and the three of them spent the night giving the dog bath after bath as well as medication to help with the severe allergic reaction. Even after 56 years of practicing, Dr. Morgan thinks there’s no better place than Dunwoody to have a business, and can’t think of a more rewarding profession. “It’s the really nice people in this community and their pets that make it so special.” Dunwoody Animal Hospital is a full-service clinic offering preventative health care, general surgery, in-house lab, ultrasound, radiology, and nutritional services. They also provide dental care, have a pharmacy, and have bathing services. DunwoodyAnimal.com 18

HEARTS GROW BIGGER WITH EVERY WAG, SIT, STAY, AND ROLL-OVER WE WITNESS FROM OUR FOUR-LEGGED FRIENDS. With many pet-friendly places in and around Dunwoody and Sandy Springs, it’s common to find families and their pet side by side enjoying the fresh air on the tree-lined sidewalks or going for a stroll at the Dunwoody Nature Center or one of the many parks or green spaces. With the twists and turns of the new normal in 2020, pets have enjoyed having us at home more than usual. In return, they gave families in our community a daily reminder of how unconditional love from a pet can do the heart some good, even during uncertain times. So, if you see one of these cute, adorable, lovable, spunky, goofy, and energetic four-legged community family members out and about… be sure to wave hi and thank them for being a source of joy to ALL of us!

+ Cardboard + White crepe paper + Construction paper + Glue + Scissors + Beads, yarn, pom poms, etc.
DIRECTIONS 1. Take your cardboard and cut two pieces into the shape of a llama (we found a stencil online). Then, cut strips of cardboard the depth you want your llama to be. You’ll connect these to either side of the llama cutouts to enclose your piñata. 2. Glue your strip of cardboard all along the edge of one side of your llama, then glue to the other side. (Be sure to leave a hole you can close up later so you can fill it with your favorite candy!) 3. Starting at the neck, cover the front, back and sides of your llama with white crepe paper, cutting a slit every half inch or so to create the traditional piñata look. 4. Cover all remaining sides the neck and head with white construction paper, cut to fit your design. 5. Using construction paper, beads, pom poms, tassels, buttons, etc., add some flair to the rest of your llama! Bonus points for incorporating different shapes and textures into your final product.

Using a stencil, cut out the pieces you’ll need for your flamingo from construction paper: Pink: 4-6 circles for the body (depending on how “fluffy” you want it), neck and legs White: Outline of the beak Black: Beak 2. Fold the circles in half and glue them all together back-to-back to create a sphere that looks like an accordion. 3. Glue the beak and white stripe to the neck, then glue the neck to a flat side of your inner-most circle. 4. Add the legs, a black dot for an eye and pink feathers for the ultimate flamin-goal.
