PIGEON POSE

This common yoga pose has become popular for good reason. It gets into those hips and glutes when done properly. For this pose we come to an all 4’s tabletop position with shoulders over wrists and hips over knees. Bring the right knee behind the right wrist and the right ankle behind the left wrist. Flex the right foot to protect the right knee joint and you slide the left leg back and straight behind you. The right foot may come further into the right thigh, and that is perfectly normal! Try to keep the foot flexed. Weight should be equally distributed between both hips with both hips level. Feel free to use a pillow or blanket under the right hip for added support. All 5 left toes should be facing and pressing into the mat. Inhale the spine long, and as you exhale you may walk your hands out in front of you and come to rest on your forearms. A pillow or blanket for the head may be useful here. Breathe through the stretch and try to hold it for 1 minute. Slowly walk yourself up and roll onto the right hip to leave the stretch. Repeat on the left side.

wrinkles, and pigmentation. AL: What is your favorite tool of the trade in your office? AV: The Sciton Joule, is a multiplatform piece of equipment that allows me to rejuvenate the skin with broadband light and/ or Halo. The broadband light diminishes brown pigment, red pigment, and stimulates collagen production in the skin. Once we resolve these issues, we recommend twice a year maintenance treatments. In addition, we can use the broadband light to treat rosacea and acne. Halo, a hybrid ablative and non-ablative laser is fantastic for resurfacing. Halo can also be used in combination with broadband light. The result is radiant, glowng skin. AL: At-home skincare is important. What are your recommended products for women at different stages of their lives? AV: No matter what age group, sunscreen is a must and can be thought of as insurance for protecting your investment. As we age it is so important that we exfoliate our skin because our skin cells do not turn over as quickly as when we are younger. A good exfoliant to aid in that process is essential. Products containing Vitamin A (retinoids, retinol) are excellent for reducing fine lines and wrinkles and leave the skin with a youthful radiant appearance. An active serum and great eye cream tailored to your specific needs is also key to amplifying the results of any skincare routine

LUCKY US! Newtown Dream Dog Park, one of the top dog parks in the country, is located inside Newtown Park toward the front entrance. It is a fenced one-acre area featuring artificial turf, sprinklers for dogs to play in, obstacles to play on, plus water fountains for people and pets. It offers separate areas for large and small dogs, along with benches, shelters, and shade trees.

Our friends at the American Kennel Club reminds us that as a general rule, adult dogs need about one ounce of water per pound of body weight per day. But growing puppies, despite their smaller size, drink more than their adult counterparts. A lot depends, however, on your puppy’s age, size, and activity level. Very young pups fulfill their hydration needs from their mother’s milk. As they are being weaned and starting to eat solid food, they will need a fresh supply of water.

Ella Gravanda and her number one human

Generally, young puppies need about onehalf cup of water every two hours. You’ll want to monitor your puppy to make sure he’s drinking enough . . . and not too much. Our photographer Christy Lee and her daughter spent the afternoon playing with Johns Creek’s pups at the park and we are proud to share these portraits of our new four-legged friends. Angie Smith 32

+HANDCRAFTED+

FUN PAPER CRAFT ACTIVITY FOR YOU + YOUR KIDDO ARTICLE NICOLETTE MARTIN

M AT E R I A L S + Cardboard + White crepe paper + Construction paper + Glue + Scissors + Beads, yarn, pom poms, etc.

DIRECTIONS 1. Take your cardboard and cut two pieces into the shape of a llama (we found a stencil online). Then, cut strips of cardboard the depth you want your llama to be. You’ll connect these to either side of the llama cutouts to enclose your piñata. 2. Glue your strip of cardboard all along the edge of one side of your llama, then glue to the other side. (Be sure to leave a hole you can close up later so you can fill it with your favorite candy!)

PIÑLLAMA

3. Starting at the neck, cover the front, back and sides of your llama with white crepe paper, cutting a slit every half inch or so to create the traditional piñata look. 4. Cover all remaining sides the neck and head with white construction paper, cut to fit your design. 5. Using construction paper, beads, pom poms, tassels, buttons, etc., add some flair to the rest of your llama! Bonus points for incorporating different shapes and textures into your final product.
