Retirement of Brentwood Police Department’s K9 Officer Lexie The Brentwood Police Department hosted a retirement party for K9 officer Lexie, an eight-year veteran canine. K9 officer Lexie and her handler, officer Steve Holder, have patrolled together since 2012. Lexie, a Belgian Malinois, has worked over the years to sniff out marijuana, cocaine, methamphetamine and heroin. She's worked on numerous drug investigations that led to arrests.

For the majority of my life, I have been missing out on the “fillings” of life. Literally. I would eat a cheeseburger, and my teeth would leave the lettuce and tomato behind. I would attempt to eat chicken wings, and let’s just say this was never a pretty sight for me. The issue I had was not that I didn’t want these foods; the issue I had was my teeth. My top four front teeth never quite met with my bottom four, causing me to talk with a slight lisp and miss out on the glorious condiments filling life. After 20 years
of being told that my teeth could only be fixed with jaw surgery, I learned to adapt. I learned to give the issue a rest and move on -- that is, until I was referred to Kemp and Rice Orthodontics. The definition of a hero is a person noted for courageous acts or nobility of character: A person who, in the opinion of others, has special achievements, abilities, or personal qualities and is regarded as a role model or ideal. That was the Mwizerwa Family! William first arrived in Brentwood because one of his friends came here one year before him. That was his only contact in the US. After receiving his US Visa, he asked his friend if he would host him. Four days after arriving in the US, his host took him shopping at a local grocery store where William heard his name being called. It was a connection William had from Africa. William, being a man of God, felt that it was His act that brought him to his future life. He joined a church they told him about and they gave him a free place to live for two years.

There are approximately 21,000 acres and 500 miles of
shoreline to enjoy, and Smith Lake is ranked one of the clean-
est lakes in the United States. This makes it a great place to cool off during the summer months and to take in spectacular views in the winter months. Smith Lake also offers boat rentals and multiple lakeside restaurants with public docking. This vibrant lake is ideal for many recreational activities such as fishing (over 70 species of fish!), wake surfing, kayaking, paddle boarding or just soaking up some sun. If you want to travel the area around the lake, the Natural
Bridge of Alabama is a compelling place to explore. This 148-foot sandstone bridge stands 60 feet above various footpaths. Created by thousands of years of wind, this bridge is the longest natural bridge in the southeast. The Smith Lake Dam is another pit stop. It's one of the largest rock-filled dams in the eastern United States. The dam is a popular fishing spot among locals, and there are white sandy beaches for sunbathing or just relaxing.
