This weekend was a warm one. And it was great to see so many people out enjoying some time on the beach. It's been a while. Last month's #LagunaNiguelStrong issue was very well received. Thank you to those who stepped up and supported our community with your generosity and acts of kindness. One of my favorite sayings in business was first coined by the great philosopher Aristotle. And that is: "The whole is greater than the sum of its parts." In other words, we are stronger together; and the progress we've made as a community, and a nation, are evidence of that. But now, we are finally seeing some light at the end of the tunnel. This is the theme of our June Issue. Inside, we share with you the stories of local business owners who

Working from Home: The New Normal? WORKING REMOTELY IS NO LONGER JUST A TREND

get set up IT’S BEEN A WHILE SINCE COVID-19 CAME CRASHING INTO OUR LIVES. For most of us, we now work from home. And, while some companies were already promoting the idea of telecommuting before the pandemic hit, many of us are still uncomfortable with the change. For some, working remotely is more than a location change. Many have lost jobs and are having to start new home-based businesses. Either way, as much as we hate to admit it, most of us actually like the routine of leaving for work each morning. Some even enjoy the commute! Working remotely can be a good thing. Technology allows us to stay connected regardless of where we are based—and this lowers costs for both sides of the employer/employee relationship. Now that the coronavirus pandemic has given many of us a forced taste of working remotely, we may find an even greater push for this trend

If you’re like me, your “home office” is a small room with a pile of bills and miscellaneous paperwork stacked up on a desk. The first thing we must do is to reclaim and declutter that space. Karen Reuter OWNER, KAREN REUTER PHOTOGRAPHY Karen Reuter loves creating extraordinary images and she loves people! When we launched Laguna Niguel Lifestyle over a year ago, we immediately asked Karen if she would join our team. Lucky for us, she did! Photography of the highest caliber is a must for a premium publication like ours. Clearly, we did the right thing by involving Karen. Karen always puts people first. And she loves getting to know her clients and becoming friends with them. This approach ensures a relaxed, enjoyable experience for all—and Karen is able to capture the genuine personalities of her subjects. If you, your business, or family have any photography needs, we highly recommend Karen Reuter Photography! HOW HAS YOUR BUSINESS ADAPTED TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC? I’ve been able to work through the shutdown pretty well. I had a few jobs that required a lot of design and retouching, so that kept me busy through the first few weeks. I was able to create a few headshots for clients also. Being sensitive to their comfort and safety, I shot with a long lens, maintaining more than a 6 ft. distance, and I wore a mask, of course. It was hot and a little difficult at times. For instance, when a hair was out of place, I couldn’t just go up and comb it, but rather, had to verbally direct my subject to do what was needed. It took more time, but it worked out well. Also, I couldn’t hire hair and makeup artists, due to social distancing guidelines. I’m now spending much needed time updating my portfolio and preparing my marketing for when the pandemic is finally over. When the lockdown is lifted, I hope to jump in quickly with both feet and make up for lost business! karenreuterphotography.com or call (949) 488-3144 24

Classified as an essential business, the facility has been able to remain open and perform its “essential wellness” services despite of the COVID-19 lock down. The response has been overwhelming. We had a chance to tour the facility with Lucky De Jesus, the owner of Fit Body Boot Camp, Laguna Niguel. Lucky, a member of Restore, says the wellness treatments Restore provides are a great complement to his regular training program. And Lucky is not alone. In fact, dozens of elite athletes—including some well-known celebrity sports stars we cannot name— frequent Restore on a regular basis. That’s because services provided by Restore greatly enhance sports performance, pain management, recovery, and overall wellness.

The Restore facility provides a wide variety of modalities, ten in fact, including their signature treatment, Cryotherapy. Other services include Normatec Compression Therapy, IV Drips, Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, Infrared Sauna, Stretch Base, PBM “Red Light” Therapy, and Cryoskin. Visitors can sign up for individual services as needed; however, the monthly membership packages offered are definitely the best value. Optimizing your health is Restore’s top priority—and they do not disappoint. During our visit, we had the opportunity to observe as Lucky engaged in some of the treatments. Our gracious host was Jamie Cleaver, the facility’s manager, and Jackie, lead nurse. Here are a few of the treatments:
1/
CRYOTHERAPY By now, you’ve probably heard of Cryotherapy—which literally means “cold therapy.” This is a technique where the body is exposed to extremely cold temperatures (between negative 166-220°F) for up to 3 minutes. Cryotherapy can be administered to the whole body, locally, even just to the face. According to Restore, the whole-body treatment reduces inflammation and releases endorphins that help alleviate pain, boost energy and metabolism, and increase the body’s natural healing abilities. “Local Cryotherapy helps reduce pain and swelling in targeted areas such as the back, knee, or ankle joints along with increased mobility,” says Jamie. “Think of this treatment as an ice pack on steroids.” Cryotherapy facials use pressurized liquid nitrogen vapors, stimulating the production of collagen and decreasing pore size. The facial also increases blood circulation to produce a tighter, more even skin tone.

PBM (PHOTOBIOMODULATION) THERAPY PBM (Photobiomodulation) Therapy uses near infrared light to help manage inflammation and pain, aid recovery, and improve skin clarity by increasing energy at the cellular level. It has been shown to be highly effective for acute and chronic sports injuries, fibromyalgia, fatigue, neuropathy, arthritis pain, and more. PBM is used in thousands of clinics, hospitals and elite sports institutions in over 70 nations. Acute injuries and inflammation from muscle strains and sprains, cuts, bruises, burns, etc. typically show very rapid improvement.

3/ IV DRIP Many people drink far less water than their body needs. As a result, it’s been estimated that up to 75% of Americans are in a state of chronic dehydration. Proper hydration is essential for digestion, detoxification of the liver and kidneys, and waste removal. Restore Hyper Wellness offers a comprehensive micronutrient test that allows their Registered Nurses to provide just the right “cocktail” IV Drip to suit your individual needs.
4/ HYPERBARIC OXYGEN THERAPY Restore’s Mild Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy involves lying in a comfortable pressurized chamber while breathing 90%-95% pure oxygen. The increased pressure causes your cells, tissues, and fluids to hold up to 10 times more oxygen than normal. With more oxygen, cells can produce energy more effectively, and your body can treat traumatic brain injuries, help fight off cancer, and heal tissue that is slow to recover. It’s a relaxing way to ensure wellness and longevity.

COMPRESSION THERAPY The NormaTec Recovery System helps maximize recovery for both athletes and non-athletes. Using sequential pulse technology, NormaTec synergistically combines three distinct massage techniques to speed the body’s normal recovery process: pulsing compression, gradients, and distal release. Through these mechanisms, the NormaTec Recovery System maximizes circulation throughout the body to help you feel better, train harder, and recover faster.
