Happy Holidays, Midtown! AS THE SAYING GOES, TIME FLIES WHEN YOU’RE HAVING FUN. And time sure has flown by this year as we can’t believe we’ve put together the final issue of Midtown Lifestyle in 2019 ! It seems like just yesterday we were sitting down to write our January letter to all of you—talking about resolutions and renewal—and yet, here we are, almost time to do it again. There’s a unique perspective that working in publishing brings. While we certainly

don’t want to wish our lives away, we’re always looking toward the future. Whether it’s planning our next issue or developing story ideas for the next year, we’re often already fast-forwarded to future months before the current month has even begun. The fast-paced lifestyle this industry calls for can often make it difficult to really settle down and absorb what’s going on around us and, before we know it, the year is over and it’s time to move forward again. So this December, we hope you take the time to slow down a little bit. With the

OFFERING THE BEST IN SPA SERVICES FOR OVER 30 YEARS

A COMMITMENT TO EXCELLENCE NATURAL BODY SPA CELEBRATED ITS 30TH ANNIVERSARY THIS PAST MAY. During its anniversary weekend, clients were treated to special discounts and services, gifts and raffle drawings, plus delicious food and champagne. What started out as a small store in the Morningside area of Atlanta selling natural health and beauty aids, Natural Body now has 11 locations (nine of which are in Atlanta) and over 300 employees. Founded by Cici Coffee, the CEO, the company is known for its high-quality massages, facials, waxing, and other popular spa services. It has managed not only to stay in business for all these years but to thrive as well. Cici gives a lot of credit for its success to her highly talented and loyal team. The licensed massage therapists, aestheticians, and nail technicians have developed reputations for providing the best in service and have therefore built up a large clientele over the years. She also believes that hiring the right people has helped the company stay on its true path. “We’ve always been known for hiring the most talented people,” says Cici. “They’re very disciplined and very serious about what they do.” Besides being knowledgeable about the services they provide, Cici said that their employees are also trained to be active listeners and good communicators in order to promote mutual participation between staff and clients. Plus, she stated, not enough can be said about having overall good manners and basically being polite. These qualities assist in making clients feel safe and comfortable. Cici also credits her partner and marketing officer, Celia Tully, who came on board in 2000, with a lot of their success. With a Bachelor’s degree in Health Promotion and Exercise Physiology as well as a Master’s in Healthcare Administration, Celia is a great fit for Natural Body. “Celia is the more focused, grounded, and disciplined partner, while I’m the risk taker and the creative one. We balance each other out,” says Cici. 14

Modern Design in a Contemporary New Building PLUS, DESIGN STRATEGIES AND TIPS TO MAKE ANY HOME BEAUTIFUL ARTICLE SUSAN BALDANI

Midtown Lifestyle | December 2019

SANDRA PAWLIGER, A DESIGNER AT ROOM & BOARD IN ATLANTA, WAS CHOSEN TO BRING THE J5 MODEL TO LIFE. Her primary goal was to show that modern can be warm and to inspire buyers to follow their own design dreams. “I love the large open floor plans, the high ceilings and the floor to ceiling window walls,” says Sandra. “All of my decisions for each room were led by the desire to highlight these architectural details.” Bartow Rainey, Director of Marketing at Brightstar | Compass, is handling the J5 Condos. “We believe their customers were the right target market, so it was a great fit for those prospects to be able to experience Room & Board in our model,” says Bartow.

“ALL OF MY DECISIONS FOR EACH ROOM WERE LED BY THE DESIRE TO HIGHLIGHT THESE ARCHITECTURAL DETAILS.”

Sandra’s Tips on Decorating: + There are no rules. If you love something, you can make it work. + Concentrate on finding things that are beautiful to you, as well as practical and functional. + Don’t be afraid to mix color, texture, patterns, styles and materials. Mix old with new. Overall, it’s about balance. + Invest in some well-made pieces with a timeless aesthetic and you won’t need to buy furniture as often. December 2019 | Midtown Lifestyle

WINTER \IN BLOOM BRIGHTEN UP YOUR AESTHETIC THIS SEASON WITH THIS BEAUTIFUL FLORAL ARRANGEMENT FROM KRISTEN CAISSIE, CREATIVE DIRECTOR AND FOUNDER OF MOON CANYON DESIGN CO.

PHOTOGRAPHY NICKI SEBASTIAN FOR JENNI KAYNE

30

Midtown Lifestyle | December 2019

KRISTEN CAISSIE, CREATIVE DIRECTOR AND FOUNDER OF MOON CANYON DESIGN CO., created this beautiful flower arrangement as part of Jenni Kayne’s floral encyclopedia. This lush arrangement is comprised of early spring blooms arranged in a ceramic vase. The wabi-sabi aesthetic of the handmade vessel adds to the arrangement’s playful proportions. Earthy yellows, rich greens, and a touch of blue tell a color story that’s unexpected, yet warm and welcoming. Perfectly undone early spring blooms (Kristen’s favorite to design with) emphasize the meeting place of winter and spring. CONTINUED >

TWEEDIA LADY SLIPPER Characterized by the slippershaped pouch (or labellum) that sits between the petals, these orchids range in color from white and yellow to a deep pink and purple. The lady slipper might take four to sixteen years to produce a bloom, but it’s worth the wait— in comparison to other, more temperamental orchids, this type can be considered fairly low-maintenance.

RANUNCULUS Also known as the buttercup, these spring bloomers are coveted for their delicate layers of petals, resembling ruffled tissue or crepe. In a wide range of vivid shades, ranunculus can bloom from late winter to early summer.

32

Midtown Lifestyle | December 2019

NARCISSUS Daffodils are instantly recognizable by their six petals surrounding a trumpet-like corona, most often in variances of white, yellow, or both. The ubiquity of the daffodil dates back to ancient times, both medicinally and botanically. They have been said to get their name because the image of languid daffodils along a stream evoke the image of Narcissus gazing into his reflection.

This delicate perennial is coveted for its light fragrance and pale blue star-shaped petals. Found commonly in vines and trellises, tweedias are prime for an arrangement as they cut well and last long.
