Anchor Real Estate of Long Island, Inc. is an independently owned, full service real estate brokerage in the heart of Patchogue Village. With a professional, knowledgeable, diverse team of agents who service all of Long Island, and even New York City, they pride themselves on offering top notch customer service, while also maintaining a fun, family-like environment in the office, which is something that is very important to Broker/Owner Gina Ferraro. “We recently acquired a much larger office space in the same building on Main Street we started in less than three years ago, next to the Patchogue Theatre on the second floor. We now have more room for our weekly training, to host events, and of course, to continue to grow our amazing team. Being in the Village of Patchogue has created many wonderful opportunities for us, its where everyone wants to be. The fact that we are able to watch this company evolve in such a bustling location is really a dream come true.” The office dynamic has proven to be successful, and has resulted in a very strong referral business from the agent’s past clients. “It’s important that our clients and customers have options,” Gina continues. “We offer beautifully customized marketing and advertising
plans, a competitive commission structure, partnerships with other local professionals, and all with a hands-on Broker. With us they have the freedom to make decisions based on their individual needs without the interference of a large corporation. There are few other local brokerages who can say the same.” Anchor Real Estate of Long Island also boasts a prominent social media presence, and unique, weekly newspaper advertising which has also attributed to their success. Whether it’s a comical (yet informative) video, a valuable tip about the current market, or promoting new listings and open houses, Anchor understands the importance of reaching their audience, and is often complimented on their innovative marketing techniques. The agents are not only genuine, but relatable, and many build client relationships and friendships that far surpass the transaction. Gina was also honored for her success in celebration of International Women’s Month by the Greater Patchogue Chamber of Commerce recently and is anticipating great things for her company in the very near future. “This is a very exciting time for us. To not only have a female owned and operated brokerage in Patchogue Village, but to be able to provide a different, creative approach to the local real estate industry is refreshing... and people are starting to take notice.”

The bar area was updated, having it professionally sprayed in grey to match the new color plan. The diamond-shaped wallcovering was complemented by adding diamond-shaped cabinet hardware. The countertop in the bar (Pental Quartz/ color: Misterio) was made to match the kitchen surfaces which gave a great consistency to the overall design of the newly appointed space. Off this newly renovated living room space, the bathroom was updated by adding more square footage. A closet was added to a preexisting half bath to create a much larger space. A rain shower head with body shower and handheld unit are controlled by a digital wallmounted touch screen keypad. This allows the user to control temperature and individual fixtures. FOR NEARLY 80 YEARS, OUR COMMUNITY HAS SEEN THE LANDSCAPE SOUTH OF MONTAUK HIGHWAY CHANGE DRAMATICALLY, MOSTLY BECAUSE OF THE FLOWER INDUSTRY. “From West Sayville to Patchogue, this was the highest number of greenhouses in the world in the 1950s. It was that or clamming,” says Karl Auwaerter of Bayport Flower Houses. Karl is the son of Gispert and grandson of Paul Auwaerter who, in 1932, after working for the Flower Houses for several years, took over the operation and began adjusting to the ever-changing industry. “When I was in elementary school, we would box the carnations and daisies the night before, my father would wake me up at four in the morning, and we’d go into Manhattan and deliver to different wholesalers," Karl says. "Then, we’d eat at the Greek diner, and he’d drop me off at school," Eventually, the carnation market moved to South America. Then chrysanthemums and snapdragons followed suit. Roses were the main flower that powered the business into the 1990s but, when Karl took over, he knew he needed to evolve. As we stood in the tropical greenhouse, Karl spoke about the importance of evolution. “Most growers are not very adaptable. They don’t like people, they like plants. I like them both.” With the help of his wife, Amy, Karl added several greenhouses to the property and shifted from the focus from cut flowers to plants and added a “winter plant camp.” Customers stretching from Fire Island to Nassau County can have plants stored over the winter and picked up in May. Karl’s sister, Christine, still leads the renown florist, continuing to create arrangements that win awards and make brides happy all over Long Island. The future of the Flower Houses looks bright and lush. Karl’s son, John, and a core group of his friends are active in the growth of the company. The Auwaerter Family plan on doing more horticultural maintenance, advising clients on how to take care of their gardens, put down earth-friendly fertilizer and plant in the right place. And they'll even squeeze in some time to spend with Pete Moss, their chocolate labrador. Whether you want to purchase some mums for autumn, or just want to wander the aisles of the greenhouses for some inspiration, the Bayport Flower Houses can lend a hand (or thumb). “In times of recession,'' Karl says, “people might not go travel, but they will buy themselves a flower or plant to make them happy. People come here to escape.”

01 I drink East End Breakfast Blend, “The Bean of Patchogue.” 02 Cabernet or Pino Noir is my favorite— don't tell anyone, but "Loughlin Vineyards in Sayville" is the best. You're welcome. 03 It's Miller Lite or the Pipe Dream Ale at Patchogue Beer Project for me. 04 A staple on our weekly menu is tacos. Try Swell Taco when you get a chance. 05 I'm a tremendous fan of the Knicks. 06 If it's anything to do with plants, sign me up!
