LIFESTYLE LETTER

Cheers to A Healthful 2026! Welcome, January 2026! It feels good to have a clean slate, ready for new things, for growth, where anything is possible. January is a good time to use your imagination and dream big. We don't really believe we'll radically change our lives with resolutions in one calendar month, but the ability to look at where you want to go and try something new is thrilling. We're proud of this Health + Wellness issue and can't wait for you to dive in for inspiration. Just take Lone Tree resident, wife, mom, licensed therapist and mental health tech executive, Robin Glenn. Our Q&A with her gives you a glimpse into what’s possible when you go all in on something you believe will change lives. Early in her career, she developed a mental-health curriculum for Douglas County Schools that quickly proved transformative and in demand. Realizing she could reach far more students through technology than by visiting schools one by one, she built a mental-health tech company—and continues to innovate in this space today. And there's so much more in these pages, from GoFarm, a Colorado nonprofit promoting the production and access to nutritious farm-raised food; to new ways to work out; to state-of-the-art eye care right here in South Denver. Drop us a line and let us know what you think. And, as always, we're here to tell stories about life in Highlands Ranch and Lone Tree so send us your story ideas! Stay healthy, Highlands Ranch and Lone Tree!

Wellness doesn’t begin in a doctor’s office. It starts with a seed in the soil, and the simple act of bringing nourishing food to the table. When local farmers have the resources to thrive and families can access what farmers grow, a community grows stronger from the inside out. By supporting growers and expanding access to healthy food, GoFarm, alongside

Advancing programs that put healthy food at the center of wellness. Start with a seed, and bring nourishing food to the table. strong community partners, helps shift the focus from treating illness to cultivating well-being. “We’re a nonprofit working directly in the local food system; how food gets from the farm to your plate and everything in between,” says Jess Soulis, community food access program director for Colorado nonprofit GoFarm. GoFarm’s mission starts where good food begins: with the farmers. The organization offers education, mentorship, and market support that help local growers build sustainable operations. Farmers’ livelihoods are strengthened, while communities benefit from fresh, nutrient-dense food. New farmers can learn regenerative agriculture and experienced growers can expand their reach. In this way, GoFarm helps make local farming viable and vibrant. “There are a lot of people who want to farm but have no access to land, equipment or a marketplace,”

says Soulis. “Our job is to lower those barriers so that good farmers can succeed.” But thriving farms alone don’t guarantee healthier families. Access is the next crucial step. GoFarm bridges that gap through a CSA farm share, community markets and hands-on educational initiatives. Seasonal cooking demos, canning workshops, farm tours and youth programs help families turn produce into daily habits, and those habits into long-term wellbeing. Their “Chuck the Truck” mobile market brings fresh, locally grown produce directly to neighborhoods, workplaces and community centers. GoFarm uses a flexible-pricing model at these markets, offering reduced-cost shares for families who need financial support, or the option for those who can pay a little more to subsidize discounted options. Additionally, GoFarm partners with SNAP/ EBT, Double Up Food Bucks, WIC and Head Start CONTINUED > JANUARY 2 0 2 6 | C I TYL I FE STYL E . C OM/H I GH L A N D S R A N C H

programs, making fresh produce more accessible to households using federal nutrition benefits or enrolled in early childhood programs. This thoughtful approach caught the attention of AdventHealth, rooted in the belief that health is more than the absence of illness. For AdventHealth Littleton hospital, food is central to its mission. By supporting community-based food programs, the organization aims to extend wellness well beyond the clinic. “Fresh fruits, vegetables, sunlight, water; those have always been central to the Seventh-Day Adventist understanding of health,” says Kevin Miller, Director of Mission Integration at AdventHealth Littleton hospital. “Partnering with providers of farm-fresh produce is really part of our core identity.” In GoFarm, AdventHealth found a partner already doing the work. In season, Chuck the Truck stops at AdventHealth Littleton once a week for employees and community members. Employees receive a $10 weekly credit toward the purchase of produce. Together, they’re advancing programs that put healthy food at the center of wellness. Their shared mission isn’t simply to distribute produce. It’s to empower families to use food as a lifelong tool for health. Sustainability is also central to GoFarm’s mission. The organization assists farmers in adopting responsible practices such as soil regeneration, water conservation, and reduced chemical use. These efforts strengthen the land and help ensure healthy food for consumption now and in the future. Soulis explains, “All of the farmers we work with follow organic, regenerative, or sustainable growing practices. When we support farmers, we’re also supporting soil health and ecological health.”

Crystal Clear Clarity And Vision What It Feels Like To Be Truly Seen By Your Eye Care Professionals Founded by Dr. Lance Forstot, M.D., a board-certified ophthalmologist and nationally renowned corneal specialist, Colorado Eye Consultants began with a highly regarded reputation for treating corneal disease. Dr. Forstot’s reputation preceded him as patients traveled across the country for his treatments. As co-owners Karen Repine, M.D., and Robert Fish, M.D., joined the practice, it evolved to provide full-service ophthalmology care to patients from all across the country, continuing its long-standing legacy of excellent care, knowledge and expertise. Lori Jessen, Practice Administrator of Colorado Eye Consultants, shares, “Our providers have outstanding reputations all over the United States. They’re very well connected with other medical specialties, so we get referrals from cardiologists, internal medicine, rheumatologists and more.” But it isn’t purely medical expertise that sets Colorado Eye Consultants apart. Lori shares about their high standards for excellent customer service. She says, “When people have problems with their vision, it’s very scary. We focus on providing great medical care and treat our patients like family. We deal with a lot of sensitive stuff. We’re not here just to provide eye care. We’re here to provide great, compassionate human care to them.”

28

EXP E RT H E LP | HEALTH + WE LLN E SS

She goes on, “That’s a big focus - our staff is compassionate, caring and very patient. We have elderly patients who are dropped off from facilities and are alone. Sometimes patients can’t see well enough to fill out their form, so our desk staff will sit beside them and help them fill it out. My message to all our team is that we have phenomenal doctors. We know they’re outstanding at what they do. They have extensive experience, and every single person who works in the practice represents them. It’s our job to make sure we represent them well.” The most common issues they treat are cataracts, glaucoma, retinal conditions, corneal conditions, diabetic eye exams, macular degeneration and dry eyes. Lori notes that many symptoms can be subtle, so she recommends that even people with healthy eyes visit the eye doctor at least once a year. From general needs like glasses and contacts to specialized care, Colorado Eye Consultants continues to add noteworthy members to its medical team. They currently have three new doctors with varying specialities. Dr. Carl Rebhun, M.D., specializes in Oculofacial Plastic Surgery. Dr. Ameay Naravane, M.D., specializes in Glaucoma, Cataract and Anterior Segment Surgery. Finally, Dr. Richard Freeman, M.D., specializes in Adult Strabismus and Double Vision Care.

“ We’re not here jus t to provide eye care. We’re here to provide great , compassionate human care to them.”

“The doctors who have joined are very well known,” Lori shares. “Dr. Freeman may be the most well-known for what he does nationwide. Dr. Rebhun and Naravane came from the top training programs in the country for glaucoma and plastics to mimic what Dr. Forstot, Dr. Repine and Dr. Fish have created.” They also provide emergent same-day visits. Lori advises, “Pay attention to a sudden decrease in vision, flashes of light,

a shower of floaters or if you see a whole bunch of spots in your vision. These things are definitely not normal and need to be checked immediately.” Dr. Forstot and Dr. Fish were recognized by Colorado 5280 Magazine as Top Doctors in Colorado for 2025. With a reputation that precedes them, they continue to raise the standards for excellent eye care and care for people. www.coloradoeyeconsultants.com JANUARY 2 0 2 6 | C I TYL I FE STYL E . INNOVATING FOR MENTAL HEALTH Robin Glenn has spent most of her career as a therapist innovating and building scalable curriculum in education. Despite an impressive resume that includes descriptors such as tech founder, entrepreneur and mental health innovator, the heart behind what Robin does every day is motivated by one thing: improving the lives of as many kids as possible. WHAT’S YOUR BACKGROUND, AND HOW DID YOU GET INTO THE TECH INDUSTRY? I live in Lone Tree with my husband and two kids, and we’ve called this community home for 15 years. Before I ever imagined building a tech company, I worked in Douglas County Schools and private practice as a clinical therapist, supporting students facing anxiety, depression, anger, stress, self-harm and substance misuse. I saw the same struggles appear across settings, and I watched educators try to handle difficult topics they were never trained to address. A math teacher shouldn’t have to lead a conversation about harm prevention without support. I began sharing the curricula I had created, but the need grew faster than I could keep up. With encouragement from my husband, a tech executive, and the talent of my future co-founder, Highlands Ranch resident Mac Angell, we built BASE Education. It began as Behavioral Alternatives for Suspension and Expulsion, but soon became a preventative program for all students.

LOCA L LIM E LIGH T | L I FE + CU LT U RE

On our go-live date for BASE, we helped two students in critical situations, and within months districts reported that BASE had a direct impact on school safety, engagement, attendance, and GPA. The platform paired evidence-based mental health content with assessments, reporting, and our Fireword algorithm, which alerted adults to potentially harmful language students typed or deleted. In 2023 we sold BASE to a company with a similar mission so the program could expand internationally. The funny thing is that most therapists are brick-and-mortar-based or offer virtual sessions — the typical extent of innovation. I was no different in my roots, but I have always been entrepreneurial; having invented a baby product in 2008, I like pushing the limits and being uncomfortable. I am continually coming up with ideas on how to scale, create efficiencies, or disrupt industries. BASE was no exception. I had no business tackling a tech startup; I was a therapist! But the adage, “Leap and the net will appear,” is so true. If your heart is in the right place, your passion intact, and you trust yourself implicitly, you will not fall. TELL US THE HEART BEHIND EVERYTHING YOU DO, YOUR “WHY.” My guiding philosophy is simple: When we follow our true north — helping kids, families and partners grow — we will not fail. My background as a clinician shaped every product decision and my curiosity fueled innovation. Building BASE taught me that people want to be supported, appreciated and understood — from educators and students to my own team. Leading a mission-driven organization with a team that rallied was an honor. WHAT’S NEXT FOR YOU? Next, I’m developing a modern mental wellness center that blends therapy with experiential, science-backed modalities such as neurofeedback, red light therapy, biofeedback, VR mindfulness, and rhythmic entrainment. Clients move through a sequence that supports the mind and the body, followed by an integration session with a therapist. Through these modalities, we can cover more ground than traditional therapy alone. This model grew from my daughter’s journey with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome, and the realization that many people need a different path to healing. My vision is to first serve our local community and then expand into other cities, including university settings, where the need could not be more urgent.

For me, chicken soup is all about the broth. And broth long-simmered from a whole chicken and aromatics is the only way you’ll get a deep, rich meaty flavor. That’s why we’re here, right? If it has to be watery, vapid canned broth or bouillon paste, I’d rather eat a sandwich.

Once you have your broth, everything else is a bonus: Chopped up odds and ends from your fridge veggie drawer, a couple handfuls of any dried pasta shape or even rice. Plenty of seasoning. But don’t skimp on the broth! How I make my chicken broth: Place a whole chicken (with the insides reserved for another use) in a pot with roughly chopped onion, carrots, celery, a couple tablespoons of salt, whole peppercorns if you have them, and a couple bay leaves — fill pot with water. Bring everything to a boil, then reduce to a simmer for a couple of hours. Carefully remove the chicken; it should be falling-apart tender. Shred the meat for your soup pot. Strain the broth to remove any small bits and reserve it, along with some of the shredded chicken, to make your soup. JANUARY 2 0 2 6 | C I TYL I FE STYL E . C OM/H I GH L A N D S R A N C H

BUILT ON STRENGTH Discover Strength Lone Tree Brings Science-Backed Training To Boutique Setting

When Wafa Qureshi first walked into a Discover Strength studio 13 years ago, she was not seeking a career shift or a new fitness identity. She was searching for a routine she could trust, backed by science, respectful of her time and capable of meaningful results. What she found reshaped her health and her family’s, and eventually inspired her family to bring Discover Strength to Lone Tree. Wafa loved Discover Strength’s Three E’s: Evidence-based, Efficient and Expert.

Using a method supported by peer-reviewed research on strength and hypertrophy, the workouts emphasize slow, precise movements designed for momentary muscular failure, performed with deliberate control and purpose to minimize the risk of injury. 30-minute, twice-a-week workouts, completed one-on-one or in small groups, yield meaningful results in a fraction of the time required by most conventional programs. Finally, every session is supervised by qualified exercise

physiologists, ensuring proper form, safety, and individualized adjustments and loads. Over time, Wafa began to experience a more profound impact from her workouts. Strength training, she learned firsthand, isn’t just about muscle tone or aesthetics. It’s about whole-body health, supported by research and confirmed by her own experience. In fact, Wafa says, according to Dr. Wayne Westcott’s article “Resistance Training is Medicine,” published via the American College of Sports Medicine in 2012, specific benefits from resistance training include:

The Team at Discover Strength

COGNITIVE HEALTH Strength training enhances focus and supports neuroplasticity, promoting overall well-being. Emerging science even links it with reduced risk of dementia and Alzheimer’s. MENTAL WELLNESS Patients who strength train show lower rates of depression, improved mood and higher optimism. CARDIOVASCULAR HEALTH When strength training induces muscular failure, the metabolic demand significantly increases, elevating heart rate and offering cardio benefits without the need for traditional endurance training. Discover Strength Clients Amanda and Jovan Wafa Qureshi

For those who’ve experienced significant weight loss with GLP-1 medication, resistance training is the only way to combat massive muscle loss and correlating bone density loss. METABOLIC FUNCTION Building muscle increases insulin sensitivity, a key factor in reversing conditions such as insulin resistance and pre-diabetes. FUNCTIONAL LONGEVITY Strength training helps maintain balance and mobility, especially as people age, which in turn supports a higher quality of life and independence. With such a significant personal transformation, Wafa encouraged her husband, Ajmal Ahmed, and their sons to try the workout as well. Her son Saif Ahmed, in particular, was doubtful. How could a 30-minute session create meaningful results? He discovered the intensity and efficiency for himself CONTINUED > JANUARY 2 0 2 6 | C I TYL I FE STYL E . C OM/H I GH L A N D S R A N C H

Ajmal, Wafa & Saif

during his first workout, after which he almost found himself on the floor. This experience became a touchstone in the family’s approach to health, reversing personal health issues like insulin resistance and pre-diabetes. Strength became the foundation of their daily routines and approach to wellness: notably, even their vacations became more active. As franchising opportunities expanded, Wafa and Ajmal saw a chance to bring that life-changing model to others. Today, the couple, along with Saif, co-owns Discover Strength Lone Tree. Their studio reflects the same environment that drew Wafa in years ago: professional, welcoming and intentionally designed for clients of all ages and fitness backgrounds.

Workouts are tailored for everyone—from those recovering from surgery to those less conditioned after years away from structured exercise. Even those who are already in excellent shape benefit from efficient results here. In fact, for those who’ve experienced success with GLP-1 medication, resistance training, especially weight training, is the only way to combat the massive muscle loss and the corresponding bone density loss that accompany significant weight loss. As Discover Strength continues its national expansion, the family remains clear about their purpose. For Wafa, the mission is personal. “Strength training changed my life,” she says. “I want other people to experience the same.”
