Difference?
• Our students are our #1 customers! • We are growing people not businesses. Our passion for our students' success drives us to be the best. • A luxury salon atmosphere instead of an institutional environment creates an elevated, real life learning experience. • We produce work ready students, not apprentice ready students. • A low Student to Teacher ratio allows for immersive learning and individualized development. • We teach multiple product lines so our students graduate with confidence and the skill set to start their careers. Stacey James Institute also gives back to the community by participating in many non-profit events and as a valued student, you can take part in this culture. Our learning environment mimics the real-world salon experience so our students are fully prepared upon graduation to start their career. Our educators go through constant continuing education so they are able to pass their extensive experience on to our students.

GIVING BACK
(CON TI N U ED)
TO SEE ARABELLA RUNNING ABOUT HER LIVING ROOM IN HER HOME, YOU MIGHT NOT KNOW THAT SHE HAS HERMANSKY-PUDLAK SYNDROME (HPS), WHICH IS A RARE DISORDER THAT AFFECTS 1 IN 500,000 WORLDWIDE. It is a condition that not only affects the light coloring of the skin and hair, it also limits the vision of the one who has this disorder. But you will not convince Arabella that she is limited in anyway. You and I walk through a room busy with different furniture shapes, concerned that we might bump into one. As I watched this active little girl scurry through her living room, I said to her dad, Nate, that she appears oblivious to the large pieces of furniture. “Arabella doesn’t know that she is blind,” Nate says. Arabella’s mother, Angela, told me later that Arabella has actually memorized where each piece of furniture is. (I know that but I still hit the leg on the sofa.) So, she scampers about as any sighted child. Her two siblings, Luke (7) and Gianna (2), appear to enjoy their sister, as though nothing were wrong. When Luke is leading the playtime, he doesn’t act as if he is making concessions, but rather is just playing with his sister. Had I not been told of her vision issues, I would not have known. Since Arabella began going to the Anchor Center for Blind Children almost four years ago, the collaborative efforts of the staff have enabled Arabella’s parents to know how best to help their daughter. And Angela does just that. I watched as Angela placed Arabella’s coloring book on a blue pad. Noting that the blue pad gave Arabella a soft coloring surface, Angela was quick to point out that the blue surface contrasted with the white coloring book. Another example of the contrast effect was when she gave Arabella some strawberries on a white pad. The whole idea of contrast was the guiding method for Arabella and her mother. When I was talking with Angela, she gave me the distinct impression that Anchor works more like a member of the family instead of a clinic. HPS does limit the vision of any child, but through the dedicated professionals at Anchor, little Arabella not only thrives, but delights anyone fortunate to be in her space. 14

THE GIFT OF A DRIVER’S EDUCATION CLASS FOR MOTHER’S DAY MORE THAN 20 YEARS AGO SPARKED A RACING PASSION — AND EVENTUALLY HER LOVE OF ALL THINGS PORSCHE — FOR VICKI EARNSHAW THAT SHE SAYS STILL GIVES HER A THRILL TO SHARE WITH OTHERS. Vicki is an organizer and chief driving instructor for this year’s LadiesOnly High Performance Driver Education Day from the Rocky Mountain Region of Porsche Club of America. “This is by far my most-treasured event, to bring in 60, 70 women and let them have a great time. It’s about empowering women to try something new and learn the skills of how to drive their cars correctly,” Vicki says. “If that saves them from having an accident, that’s the part that’s pretty amazing.” Vicki is the former chairwoman of the Porsche Club of America Racing Program and currently serves as steward. Her involvement in the Porsche Club has taken her all over the world — including Germany several times. Vicki says she loves the racing events for the adrenaline, and there’s nothing she’d rather drive than a Porsche. “It’s the best car there is. There’s not a Porsche that’s not meant to race, except the SUV. Every car can race, out of the box, off the floor, you can go racing with these cars. “I was a late bloomer. I didn’t get started until my kids were 16,” Vicki says. “This is one way people can go out and give it a try. I don’t assume they’re going to go out and be racers, but if you can take one thing and learn how to control your car better, it’s worth it.”
