LIFESTYLE LETTER

Styling in September “September morn… We danced until the night became a brand new day.” - Neil Diamond, Gibert Francois, Leopold Becaud After enduring a record-setting summer heat wave, it’s time to go dancing into the fall. While summer had its moments, it just doesn’t measure up with the return of autumn. After all, who isn’t looking forward to lower humidity, colorful leaves, bonfires, and of course, football? As the bridge month between summer and fall, September is a time of transition. Accordingly, it represents the perfect time for the return of the annual Hendersonville Lifestyle style issue. We all have our own definitions of style, they are reflected in everything that we do, from clothing and accessory choices to what we drive and where we live. Every person’s style is as unique as the individual, and we at Hendersonville Lifestyle are mindful of it every day. This month as we turn the page toward fall, we bring you several articles about how style is being manifested across the 37075 and beyond. First, we visit Middle Tennessee’s leading provider of doors and windows that can spruce up the look of any home or business. Next, we drop in on an automotive business in Hendersonville that is committed to helping vehicle owners express themselves by customizing their rides. Continuing, we look back at a recent stylish fundraiser that blended boots, BBQ and country music to help veterans work through PTSD and other conditions through the healing arts. As always, our City Scene and Business Monthly sections will bring you the latest news about many of the great things happening in our City by the Lake. We are proud of our little September journey, and we invite you all to come along with us. Who knows? You might even pick up an inspiration or two that will help you make your style be all that you want it to be.

Since the dawn of time, the concepts of home and family have been intertwined. Families need the centering that homes can provide, and homes are just hollow structures without families to fill them with love and joy. Just as families grow and change, so do trends behind home styling. Looks and features that were commonplace just a few years ago often begin to look old and dated as new designs come along. Two of the most important of elements of home style are windows and doors. The right combination of doors and windows can enhance homeowner enjoyment while simultaneously elevating the curb appeal and resale value of every property. When choosing new or replacement doors and windows, it is essential to choose a vendor who understands the desires and the budget of the homeowner. Usually, the best option is to work with a local company. Fortunately, Middle Tennessee is blessed with such a firm – Pella Windows & Doors of Nashville. Pella is one of the most respected companies in the windows and doors business, celebrating its 100th year in business during 2025. Pella Windows & Doors of Nashville has been around for over 50 years, and it has been owned by Ben Talbot and his family for over six years. “I’ve always loved the construction industry, and I always knew that Pella is one of the most recognized brands in the window and

door industry,” says Ben. “I joined the company in 2004, and over the years I spent time in both operations and sales and developed a great appreciation for all aspects of the customer experience. I became the general manager in 2010, and I had the opportunity to purchase the company in 2019.” Pella is capable of handling new construction and upgrades for all types of structures, from residences to commercial buildings. Their products are at the forefront of the construction industry, featuring timeless and modern designs, energy efficiency and long-term durability. “We specialize in high-end window and door solutions for both new construction and replacement projects,” says Ben. “Our services include design consultation, product selection and professional installation. Whether it’s a home needing replacement windows, a multifamily or commercial development or a CONTINUED >

custom new build, we have products and services for every application.” One unique aspect of Pella’s operation is its personal approach toward working with customers. From the moment they walk into the showroom doors, they are guided through a collaborative process to ensure that their dreams are achieved. “We start by understanding the customer’s vision, needs and budget,” says Ben. “From there, we walk them through product options, provide them with detailed quotes

and coordinate the project with our fulfillment teams. Once everything is approved, we schedule installation with our trusted crews, ensuring constant communication and quality control throughout the process.” Pella’s internal design team keeps a constant watch on emerging design trends and materials to ensure that every customer has access to the latest in door and window technologies. From traditional windows and doors to fully automated solutions, the Pella team can deliver. “In 2025, large expanses of glass and minimal frames are in high demand – especially for homeowners wanting to blend indoor and outdoor living,” says Ben. “There is also a growing interest in energy-efficient glass, smart home integration and security features built into doors and windows.”

Along with its dedication to customer satisfaction, the Pella Windows & Doors of Nashville team is also committed to the pursuit of a higher calling – taking care of people “While we’re known for selling windows and doors, we believe our greater purpose is serving people,” says Ben. “Internally, we’ve invested in a full-time wellness coach to support the well-being of our team. We’ve also established a philanthropy committee to ensure we’re actively supporting local nonprofits and giving back in meaningful ways. It’s part of our

culture – one rooted in faith, family, and a desire to make a positive impact beyond the job site.” If you are in the market for new or replacement doors and windows, it’s time to go see Pella, where family takes care of family. OLD WALL, NEW TRICKS ARTICLE BY PAM REID

HANG UP THE OLD WAY AND TRY A GALLERY WALL HANGING SYSTEM IN YOUR HOME.

One of my happy places is sitting in front of a museum wall gallery. I can admire art for hours, and if I’m with a friend, there’s no telling how long we’ll sit, reflect, and share our individual perspectives. If you’ve admired gallery wall displays in magazines, catalogs, or on social media and would like to create one in your home, it’s much easier than you might think.

MATERIALS YOU WILL NEED:

DESIGNING YOUR GALLERY WALL

CREATIVE ARRANGEMENTS

The first step in creating a gallery wall is planning. Start by selecting a theme or color scheme that complements your space. Themes can be as varied as black-and-white photographs, abstract paintings, or a mix of personal and artistic prints.

The arrangement of your gallery wall can follow several patterns, depending on your taste: • Linear: Artworks are hung in a straight line at eye level, creating a clean and orderly appearance. • Grid: Perfect for a collection of similarly sized frames, this layout emphasizes structure and uniformity. • Salon Style: This more traditional arrangement involves layering pieces closely together, often extending across the wall. It’s ideal for creating a rich, filled look.

• A gallery wall hanging system, which typically includes mounting rails, cables or rods, and hooks. You can find them pretty much anywhere, online or at your local home improvement store. • A collection of frames and artwork. • A level, measuring tape, and perhaps a laser pointer for precision.

INSTALL ATION TIPS: 01 MEASURE YOUR SPACE: Carefully measure the wall space where you want to install the gallery. Consider the height and width available, keeping in mind furniture and other room features.

02 LAY IT OUT: Arrange your artwork on the floor to finalize your layout. This “dry run” is crucial to get a feel for how the pieces will interact with one another. I like to use painter’s tape to create a visual of what my display will look like on the walls.

03 INSTALL THE RAILS AND HANG YOUR ART: Following the manufacturer’s instructions, mount the rails at the top of your wall. Ensure they are level and securely attached. Attach cables or rods to the rails, then use hooks to hang your frames. The beauty of the system is that you can adjust the height and position easily.

04 BALANCE AND SYMMETRY: Step back to view your layout from different angles. Adjust the spacing and alignment as needed to achieve visual balance.

ANNUAL EVENT RAISES THOUSANDS TO HELP VETERANS THROUGH ART ARTICLE AND PHOTOGRAPHY BY RICK MURRAY

28

I NSP IR E D BY | ARTS + C U LT U RE

The world of arts and style came together with cowboy boots and country music for a good cause with the return of one of Sumner County’s favorite events, the annual Boots & BBQ fundraiser. Sponsored by Hendersonville’s Monthaven Arts & Cultural Center (the MACC), the event is held annually to raise funds for the MACC’s “Between the Lines” healing arts program for veterans and their families. “‘Between the Lines’ is a free outreach program designed to work with military veterans who are suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI),” says Monthaven Executive Director Cheryl Stritchik. “Our healing arts facilitators work with them to find creative ways to overcome depressive and anxious feelings. ‘Between the Lines’ encourages them to reflect and process their complicated emotions.” To reach impacted veterans, the MACC works with many community partners, including the American Legion Post 17 Veterans Residence, VFW Post 9851, American Legion Post 45 and the Charlie and Hazel Daniels Veterans and Family Center. During the past year alone, “Between the Lines” was able to help thousands of individuals heal through the arts.

In a departure from past events, this year’s Boots & BBQ celebration was held on Aug. 2 at Bagsby Ranch in Gallatin. Sponsors for the event included NASTC, the Charlie Daniels Journey Home Project, Park West Foundation, TENN Properties, Chef’s Market, Holmes Pest Control, Willmore Tool & Die, Business Credit Reports, and the Bryson McCarley Good Neighbor Foundation, which catered a delicious array of barbecue and side dishes. “Bagsby Ranch is a beautiful facility, and the folks there were very generous to donate the space to us for the evening,” says Cheryl. “They believe in our mission of helping military veterans.” Supporters from across Sumner County and beyond attended the event, adorned in stylish country and western wear featuring boots, hats and sequins. For nearly four hours, guests enjoyed food, drink and fellowship while helping raise funds for the “Between the Lines” program. Entertainment for the evening was provided by emcee Wanette Robertson and headliner and Grammy Award-winning country music artist John Berry. Along with all of the other activities, this year’s participants were able to participate in some of the same healing arts exercises taught as part of the “Between the Lines” program. CONTINUED >

“Healing arts exercises are a little bit different from what you might find in a typical art classroom. Healing arts facilitators are less focused on the creation of beautiful objects and concentrate on helping participants find new ways to cope and rebuild their lives,” says Cheryl. “This year, we felt that having an interactive event would be eye-opening for our guests. We didn’t just tell people the healing arts are important. Instead, we showed them exactly how the healing arts promotes self-awareness and emotional expression.”

Monthaven Arts and Cultural Center: Monthaven Arts and Cultural Center has long been known as Hendersonville’s home for art and style. From world class exhibitions by such influential artists to classes for all ages, artistry is alive and well at the MACC. In recent years, the MACC has put on multiple exhibitions which have drawn attention from art aficionados around the country. Exhibits such as original paintings by pop art icon Peter Max, sculptures by Pablo Picasso, gowns worn by Princess Diana and other royals and elaborate wall hangings by legendary lyricist Bernie Taupin have helped elevate the MACC to elite status.

LIVING STYLE THE INTERSECTION OF FASHION AND HOME

ARTICLE BY TYLER AMADEUS PHOTOGRAPHY BY ADRIEN KING AND ALEC WALWORTH

IN

this unexpected love affair, fashion and interiors are more than just a simple pairing—they are rooted in culture, creativity, and the human desire for self-expression. As conscious consumers of the 21st century, participating in a retail landscape that is oversaturated and struggling to adapt to the ever-changing demands of the modern customer, our purchasing power should not only respond to a feeling of want but also prioritize items that reflect who we are and who we aspire to be. This is clearly visible through the representation of fashion and interiors. Although we tend to consider cost-perwear primarily when it comes to clothing, this same principle applies to furniture and the function it brings to the home. Aesthetics and functionality both play a role in this pairing, painting a picture for

the rest of the world of who the wearer is and how they live in their space. The woman who wears a blazer with sharp shoulders that makes her feel powerful in her everyday life—or the black dress that gives her a necessary boost of confidence—may naturally gravitate toward sleek, modern furniture that feels equally strong and elevates the space where the modern woman thrives. In the same way, someone who prefers an effortless ensemble—like their favorite white T-shirt and comfortable denim jeans—may also look for home pieces that

are functional and make their guests feel at ease. Even a handmade rug, one that sparks conversation about where it was found and adds a focal point to a room, mirrors how we search our closets for a sweater tied to a cherished memory.
