Vegas Golden Knights Alumni Donates $8,000 to Serving our Kids Foundation Former Vegas Golden Knights player Deryk Engelland and the Vegas Golden Knights Alumni Association visited local nonprofit, Serving our Kids Foundation, and donated $8,000 to the organization to help fight childhood hunger. One in four children experience childhood hunger, and the charity helps fill the weekend nutrition gap of vulnerable kids. The Just One Project Receives $100,000 The Just One Project, Southern Nevada’s largest mobile food pantry serving more than 20,000 people monthly, received a $100,000 grant from the San Manuel Gaming and Hospitality Authority and Palms Casino Resort Las Vegas. The funds will support The Just One Project’s Community Market - where clients receive free groceries and pantry essentials with specialized foods for quality nutrition - and wraparound services such as birth certificate assistance, self-development classes, and childcare information. The Broken Yolk Cafe Opens Second Nevada Location in Henderson The Broken Yolk Cafe celebrated the opening of its second location in Southern Nevada. Now on St. Rose Parkway in Henderson, the restaurant has a full bar and a covered patio with outdoor seating. Menu favorites include the Crunchy French Toast, the Golden State Benedict, and the Fiesta Burrito. Known for its signature benedicts, 12-ounce mimosas, and homemade sauces, the original Broken Yolk Cafe opened in 1979 in Pacific Beach, San Diego, California and expanded into Nevada at Town Square before arriving in Henderson. Pet Store Holds “Donate a Carrot” Campaign to Combat Unwanted Bunny Gifting Every Easter, thousands of unwanted bunnies are gifted and it becomes one of the toughest weeks of the year for rescues. In an effort to support the overwhelming number of unwanted bunnies, At Your Service Pet Supplies launched its “Donate a Carrot”

initiative to raise money for local rescue organizations that must feed thousands of unwanted rabbits after Easter. Indeed, according to local designers, curating a welcoming and inviting space in which to enjoy and prepare meals that feels both elevated and practical is what’s on the menu these days. “A space does much more than merely exist,” says Liz Werner, owner of Mercato Interiors, a renowned local high-end furniture store. “It influences, ignites memories, and ultimately brings joy.” The nostalgic influence of food and its preparation is undeniable, but often, there are memories just as strongly associated with the act of preparing and enjoying it. Undoubtedly, decades later, many can still conjure up memories of sitting around their grandmother’s kitchen table while enjoying a home-cooked meal and remembering what type of chair they were seated in. While the design styles may look different, designers today are elevating those kitchens of yesteryear, utilizing more flexible space, and offering new

ways to integrate the cooking process into the at-home dining experience while creating plenty of memories along the way. With the popularity of open-concept floorplans still on the rise, the labor of preparing and cooking food is no longer relegated to behind closed doors but rather incorporated into the process. Memories are often made throughout the process of preparing a meal together or while simply keeping the cook company as they get everything ready. “Larger islands are even more popular as they are a bigger workspace and a great place to be able to sit and eat a meal or have a glass of wine while chatting with the cook,” said Werner. “And for those islands, we are seeing trends with leather on barstools to make them easy to keep clean, as well as armless [stools] as people are tired of swivel chairs with scratched arms or damaged countertops.” By trading the large, clunky barstools so often found in the early 2000s with sleeker counterparts that easily tuck under the lip of the bar, homeowners can also create the illusion of a larger room. changing up the lighting fixtures. Incorporating different shapes, materials, and levels of lighting can completely alter the look and feel of a space, particularly in the kitchen, where basic functional lighting often comes standard. “Kitchen lighting is a great way to add an organic feel to the kitchen,” said Werner. Swapping out the lighting to an elegant fixture or something that creates a warmer feel can make a room feel more finished and welcoming. Adding lights at different heights by placing table lamps on other furniture elements, including buffets and sideboards, can also provide depth and dimension within a space. Ultimately, space and comfort are paramount in curating a kitchen and dining space that feels elevated and inviting — a space where one truly wants to spend time cooking or dining. Being able to comfortably host a gathering of friends and family, large or small, to create memories together is the ultimate goal. While walls can’t always be moved to create larger rooms, incorporating furniture and design choices that flex when needed can help maximize the space. “As we all know, meals are an important part of family and friends, said Werner. “Tables that accommodate any size group are always a plus. Many tables these days have self-storage leaves, so they are easy to use and do not take up any space.” Cooking at home, surrounded by friends and family, much like beautifully designed and well-appointed spaces, is about spreading joy and creating lasting memories that can be treasured for generations.

Ever ything you need to know to create a breathtaking in-home bar

Having a home bar is cool. It is, however, not cool if the only thing you can offer guests is a couple of dusty bottles of liquor that have been there for years. What you have in your home bar can make or break your gathering, however informal it may be. A well-rounded bar should include at least one bottle of each of the six base liquors, which are the foundation for the majority of cocktails. Stocking a nice selection of these will ensure you can mix up almost any cocktail on a whim. If you feel like a whiskey cocktail tonight, you’ll be ready. When a guest asks for a brandy, gin, rum or tequila-based libation, you’ll be prepared to grab your shaker and mix up a drink.

VODK A Vodka has a clean, transparent flavor and is used for more cocktails than any other distilled spirit. Stock at least one “fifth” bottle of vodka, but opt for a handle (1.75 liters) if you like to entertain. • A good solid option like Titos is ideal for tall drinks like the screwdriver and bloody mary. • If you enjoy a vodka martini, spend a little extra for a top-shelf bottle as well. • Consider stocking a couple of flavored vodkas. A well-stocked bar has at least two bottles of rum. • A light rum will be your workhorse for most cocktails, from the tropical daiquiri to the timeless mojito. • As a secondary rum, take your pick of aged, dark or spiced rum. suggested glassware:

Gin can be quite floral and botanical depending on the brand, since it is made from very botanicalforward juniper berries. • If you aren’t an aficionado, a good bottle of a London dry gin is recommended. This is the most versatile and can work in everything from a gin and tonic to a dry martini. • From there, you can get adventurous - every brand is different and a wide array of flavors is available. suggested glassware:

TEQUIL A Tequila’s quality can vary drastically, so make sure to test them out before purchasing. It’s the key to the ever-loved margarita, though there are other fascinating tequila cocktails to explore as well. Generally, you’ll want to stock at least one nice tequila. • The most versatile style is blanco (or silver) tequila, and it’s the best option for a one-tequila bar. • For a little upgrade, add a slightly aged reposado as well. suggested glassware:

This is where things get complicated. Each whiskey has its own style and characteristics. In general, two bottles are a good start - but you can always add more. • For the most versatility, stock a bourbon and Canadian whisky. The bourbon will give you that robust whiskey flavor and the Canadian blends tend to be very smooth. • Rye whiskey is a great choice for everyday mixed drinks. Though some drinkers find it too spicy, rye is excellent in almost any cocktail that calls for a generic whiskey. If you enjoy classic cocktails, give rye a try for an authentic taste. • A bottle of Irish whiskey and a decent blended scotch are good complements to any bar.
