Welcome to the premier issue of Henderson Lifestyle! “IN THE MIDST OF EVERY CRISIS, LIES GREAT OPPORTUNIT Y,” ALBERT EINSTEIN. A year ago, we were all tucked away in our homes in the middle of a worldwide pandemic. Many of us were feeling the ill effects of having to shelter in place. We had to adapt and start working from home and our children were forced to go to school on a computer. Society and life as we knew it would change for an indefinite period of time. We had no promises. We had absolutely no guarantees when life

I caught COVID-19 and was hospitalized in September of last year. Luckily, after only spending five days in the hospital, I emerged from my fight with the most dangerous virus I’ve ever come across. I became determined to make an important change in my life. I had spent 30 years in a business in which I was very good. I had the luxury of not having to work full-time. I made good money. Suddenly these things didn’t matter. I had lost my drive. I started searching for a new opportunity that would add fire to my career, and in

OPEN HOUSE (CONTINUED)
The Jewel of the Desert was completed by interior designer Stephanie Styles, who has designed mega homes in Beverly Hills, Cabo, Colorado and beyond. She is known for her glamorous approach to design, unexpected touches, and lightfilled livable spaces. Pulling her inspiration from art and fashion, Styles creates sumptuous spaces that provoke creativity and enrich homeowners' lives. A design expert and fashion connoisseur, Styles looked to legendary Italian fashion designer, Roberto Cavalli for inspiration. As with Cavalli, Styles is known for her iconic use of color and prints. She wove her design magic into The Jewel of the Desert by bringing her distinctive eye to everything from architectural details to decorative touches. Transforming

square-feet into a stylish space, while still maintaining a sense of intimacy, is no easy feat. Yet that is precisely what Styles accomplished. She unified the home by seamlessly incorporating rich elements of the color sapphire blue. Associated with royalty, the sapphire gemstone is believed to attract blessings and calm the mind and strengthen intuition. Styles incorporated the deep and velvety shade throughout the home creating a sense of timeless elegance. Working directly with artists and vendors, Styles created fresh design approaches.

Bella Vita is an intimate yet relaxed friends and family dinning space that is known for its authentic imported and flavorful Italian food made from scratch. As night falls, this welcoming restaurant delivers craft cocktails. One such cocktail is the Bella Donna with Stoli Razz, elderflower, lemon, raspberry puree, egg white, and a flower petal. Another is the Montegrande with Bulleit Bourbon, Gran Marnier, lemon, simple syrup, and basil. But, our favorite was the Giovanna Fresca made with Hendricks gin, muddled cucumber and mint, fresh sour, and house made simple syrup. It is perfectly shaken and strained over ice, then topped with a cucumber wheel and a mint leaf. A final touch of fresh cracked black pepper gets added right in front of you for the full sensory experience. Giovanna Fresca

In the dog days of summer when it is 110 here, nothing beats getting away from the heat by heading to Mt. Charleston where it is a cool 85 degrees. I enjoy climbing up Mary Jane Falls Trail. Start early so you can complete the 3.2 round trip hike in a few hours. Then continue up the road to the Mt. Charleston Lodge for lunch while enjoying the fir trees.
