LIFESTYLE LETTER

Let’s Explore Our Island… As summer hits its stride, there's no better time to dive into the adventure, charm, and character that Island life has to offer. This month, we're thrilled to bring you our Explore the Island issue, a celebration of the people, places, and experiences that make this coastal paradise truly unforgettable. We’re kicking things off with a look at the iconic E-Wagon, a stylish and comfortable way to cruise the Island with ease. From beach to bay, it's the perfect vehicle for discovering everything our Island has to offer. We also recap the inaugural Sand in My Boots Festival, a local music event that blends sound, community, and coastal vibes in the best way possible. Next, we shine a light on Angie Swiger, a dynamic local entrepreneur and mom whose love for the Island runs deep. Her story is a beautiful testament to the strength and heart of our community. For a unique Island perspective, we spend time on the water with the Orange Beach Police Marine Division. Their dedication to keeping our waters safe, while navigating some of the most scenic spots around, is nothing short of impressive. If you're craving a nature-filled staycation, don’t miss our feature on Timberline Glamping at Young's Hideaway. It’s where rustic charm meets modern comfort, in a setting that feels a world away. Think boutique hotel tucked inside a beautifully appointed safari-style tent. Wherever this month takes you, whether it’s a glamping retreat, a concert, or a quiet cruise down the coast—we hope this issue inspires you to explore, connect, and enjoy the very best of Island life. Happy Independence Day from all of us at Gulf Coast City Lifestyle. Thank you for inviting us into your homes and hearts each month. We hope to see you around town. Love local, live local, and spend locally. Until next month...

Let me take you on a journey to the Sand In My Boots Festival. Walking through the main gates, I was wrapped in a whirlwind of sights, sounds, and smells that instantly heightened my senses. The vibrant atmosphere was alive with excitement, and everywhere I saw smiles and laughter. People had come from all over the world, eager to enjoy not just incredible music but also our Southern hospitality and the stunning sugar-white beaches that make Gulf Shores so special. The festival’s spirit of community was evident everywhere. Producer Reeves Price had shared his vision of supporting local businesses, and it was heartwarming to see that commitment in action. From delicious food to fans showcasing their carefully curated outfits, the festival truly felt like a celebration of everything Gulf Shores has to offer. I found myself chatting with friendly faces, and in no time, strangers became friends, all united by the joy of the event. The music was excellent. Each performer brought their A-game, delivering clear, crisp sounds that resonated beautifully with the audience.

I was completely entranced by the talent on stage—their passion and energy were infectious, and I felt fortunate to be part of such an incredible experience. The seamless flow of performances highlighted the meticulous planning and thought behind the festival, making it a memorable journey from start to finish. Despite the heat and humidity, the festival organizers had thought of everything. Cooling areas, misting stations, and hydration spots were strategically placed throughout the grounds, allowing us to enjoy the festivities without feeling overwhelmed. I even took a ride on the Ferris Wheel, where the panoramic view of the festival unfolding below me was simply stunning. It was a sight to behold, with thousands of people gathered to celebrate music and community. As I mingled with other attendees, I could feel the excitement and anticipation for what this festival means for Gulf Shores. It’s more than just a weekend of music; it’s about creating lasting memories and encouraging visitors to explore the beauty of the area long after the festival ends. CONTINUED >

EMBRACING LIFE IN GULF SHORES

ANGIE SWIGER’S PASSION FOR COMMUNITY AND THE COASTAL LIFESTYLE ARTICLE BY LILLIAN TAYLOR

PHOTOGRAPHY BY SWIGER STUDIO

For Angie Swiger, Gulf Shores embodies more than just a geographical location; it represents a cherished way of life. Angie and her husband have cultivated a vibrant family, raising four successful children, and they are now eagerly anticipating the arrival of their first grandchild. Reflecting on her journey, Angie fondly remembers the days spent raising her children in this idyllic setting. “We knew from vacationing here that we wanted to make this place home. There’s no other place in the world like it,” she shares.

“I loved this place so much; I knew I wanted to give back.” —ANGIE SWIGER

Gulf Shores, renowned for its southern hospitality and breathtaking sugar sand beaches, was a dream destination that transformed into a reality for the Swiger family. What began as a vision to open a restaurant blossomed into a larger role as community cornerstones, ultimately guiding them toward a successful venture in real estate. “After Hurricane Ivan, we chose to pivot toward new family goals and dreams. Real estate was the perfect fit for us,” Angie explains. Her commitment to the community is evident, having served on the school board during her children’s formative years. “I loved this place so much; I knew I wanted to give back,” she adds with heartfelt sincerity. Angie passionately describes the beauty of life in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach. It’s not just a destination but a community where joy, peace, and a unique lifestyle flourish. Residents and visitors alike are drawn to the area’s natural splendor, friendly faces, and the warmth of its culture. The Swiger family’s story reflects a deep connection to this vibrant community, where the rhythm of life is intertwined with the gentle sounds of the waves and the laughter of children playing on the shore.

In Gulf Shores, life is about more than just living; it’s about building relationships, creating memories, and fostering a sense of belonging. Angie’s narrative is a testament to the magic of this coastal paradise, a place that holds a special place in her heart and continues to inspire her family’s journey. As they prepare to expand their family tree with a grandchild, the Swigers remain rooted in the love and beauty that Gulf Shores has to offer, eager to share this enchanting lifestyle with the next generation.

A DAY ON

Recently, I had the incredible opportunity to join the Orange Beach Police Department’s Marine Division as they kicked off the 2025 Orange Beach Billfish Classic. The experience was nothing short of eye-opening, revealing the dedication, humility, and unique spirit of these officers who patrol our beautiful waters. Nestled along the intercoastal waterway, these gentlemen head out every day with a singular mission: to keep our boaters, beaches, and communities safe. When you think of police officers, the image that comes to mind often involves urban settings, traffic stops, or responding to emergencies. But the officers of the Marine Division embody a different kind of policing, one that is closely tied to the natural beauty of our area. Each officer has a personal story—many were drawn to the South by its famous hospitality and charm. Whether they come from backgrounds in law enforcement in other states, military service, or even national park rangers, these men embraced the opportunity to serve and protect in a way that directly connects them to the community they love. Stepping onto their boat and heading out into the vastness of the water felt surreal. The gentle ocean waves danced in the distance, and the excitement of the Billfish Classic filled the air. It was beautiful to watch the participants and their supporters come together, embodying the camaraderie and friendship that is so integral to this annual tradition. For many locals, the Billfish Classic is not just a fishing tournament; it’s a celebration of the lifestyle we cherish— enjoying the sun, sand, and the natural habitat that makes this place home to so many. The Orange Beach Billfish Classic is renowned for its festive atmosphere, bringing together fishing enthusiasts from all over. It’s an event that combines competition with fun, fostering friendships and a sense of community. The thrill of the catch is matched only by the shared experiences and stories exchanged among participants. Beyond the excitement on the water, the tournament also raises funds for various charitable causes, helping those in need and supporting local initiatives. This spirit of giving back is what makes the Billfish Classic so special, as it contributes to the greater good of the community while celebrating our rich maritime culture. As we cruised through the water, I was reminded of the vital role these officers play in not just protecting human life but also preserving the delicate ecosystems that surround us. The Orange Beach Police Department is equipped with advanced technology and resources, working tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure the safety of both residents and visitors alike. Their efforts extend beyond policing; they collaborate with conservatory groups and environmental organizations to maintain the beauty and health of our natural habitats.

A SPECIAL THANKS, We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to officers Caleb Winifield, Stephen Centrone, and Brian Kincaid. These gentlemen not only protect and serve but spend their time educating others on the importance of boater safety, keeping our islands safe, secure, and fun for everyone to enjoy.

“Many are u n aw a r e o f t h e importance of n o - w a ke z o n e s or the rea sons cer t ain area s are desig nated a s o f f- l i m i t s t o b o a t s .”

During our time on the water, I asked the officers about the most common issues they encounter while patrolling. Their answer was unanimous: most people simply don’t know the boating laws and safety regulations. Many are unaware of the importance of no-wake zones or the reasons certain areas are designated as off-limits to boats. As they explained this, a pod of dolphins gracefully swam by, a perfect reminder of the enchanting wildlife we share these waters with. The officers are not just enforcing rules; they are educating the public about the importance of preserving our environment for the sea turtles that come to nest, the unique bird species, and the diverse aquatic life found in these waters. Their commitment to protecting our natural habitat is as strong as their dedication to the people they serve. What struck me most about these officers is that they are family men, friends, and active members of the community. Their passion for protecting and serving extends to their personal lives, where they invest time in their families and engage with their neighbors. They truly embody the spirit of community policing, forging connections that go beyond their duties as law enforcement officers. Each day, they suit up not just to perform a job but to uphold a mission that resonates deeply within them. Wrapping up our day on the water, I felt a profound sense of gratitude for the Orange Beach Police Department Marine Division. Their dedication to our community, both on land and water, is a testament to their character and commitment. With every wave they navigate and every safety measure they enforce, these officers remind us of the beauty of our surroundings and the importance of preserving them for future generations. Special thanks to the Orange Beach Police Department - Marine Division for their unwavering commitment to keeping our community safe and for allowing me to share in their mission. Together, they are not just protecting our waters; they are nurturing a community bound by a shared love for our home and a united passion for protecting and serving all who call this place home.
