Hey Neighbors, While many associate the holiday season with snowy landscapes and cozy fireside gatherings, here on our Island, we have our own unique way of embracing the spirit of Christmas. The early sunsets cast a warm, golden glow on the powdery white sands. The sound of the waves lapping at the shore serves as a soothing backdrop to the festivities. There's a sense of calm and tranquility, with a touch of tropical flair, that defines our Gulf Coast Christmas. Our holiday traditions are unique. You'll find many families decorating beautiful palm trees with twinkling lights and ornaments that reflect the coastal spirit. We gather around fire pits, making S'mores and sharing stories under the starlit sky. Christmas songs fill the air, harmonizing with the gentle rustle of the palm fronds in the breeze. One of the most magical aspects of Christmas on the Island is the mild weather. This allows us to enjoy outdoor activities without sweating. Venture out to restaurants without waiting. The Island is ours again and let's enjoy it to the fullest. As much as we celebrate in style, we also remember the true spirit of the season. Our community is known for its generosity and kindness. We come together to support those in need, organizing food drives and toy collections to ensure that everyone can experience the warmth of the holidays. Attending a Christmas Eve church service brings me closer to God, my family, and framily. It’s so inspiring to rejoice about our newborn King and remember the true “reason of the season.” It’s a great time to inventory your gratitude, by looking back at the blessings of the past year. While many families have sacred recipes for their holiday staples, it can also be fun to try a fresh new take on your favorite dishes. After all, cooking – and eating – is one of the best parts of the holiday season! One of Orange Beach Concierge Chef David Pan’s favorite holiday recipes does just that with a spectacular spin on

the beloved green bean casserole. Created by the talented Thomas Keller of Bouchon Bistro, the dish is a dynamic blend of Haricots Verts, made-from-scratch mushroom soup, and crunchy shallots. It takes a little more time to prepare than the original version, but you’ll find the work worth it when you treat your entire table to love at first bite!

Har icot s Ver t s Casserole Recipe Ingre di e nt s: • 2 1 ⁄2 lb. haricots verts or green beans, trimmed • Kosher salt and freshly ground white pepper, to taste • 2 cups canola oil • 12 oz. white button mushrooms, sliced 1/4″ thick

1 3/4 cups heavy cream 8 sprigs thyme 2 cloves garlic, smashed 1 1 ⁄2 tbsp. sherry vinegar 3 shallots, thinly sliced 1 ⁄2 cup flour

D i re ct i on s: 1. Cook haricots verts in an 8-qt. saucepan of boiling salted water until crisp-tender, 1–2 minutes. Drain and transfer to an ice bath until cold. Drain and pat dry using paper towels; transfer to a large bowl and set aside. 2. Add 3 tbsp. oil to pan; heat over medium-high. Cook mushrooms until browned, 8–10 minutes. Add cream, thyme, and garlic, and reduce heat to medium; cook, stirring occasionally, until cream is reduced by half, 8–10 minutes. Let cool slightly and discard thyme; transfer to a blender. Add vinegar, salt, and pepper; purée into a smooth sauce. (Consistency should be similar to thick pea soup; if necessary, add more cream). Transfer to bowl with haricots verts; toss to combine and spread into a 9″ x 13″ baking dish.

3. Heat oven to 400°. Wipe pan clean and add remaining oil; heat until a deep-fry thermometer reads 300°. Toss shallots in flour and, working in batches, fry until golden and crisp, 2–3 minutes. Using a slotted spoon, transfer shallots to paper towels to drain; season with salt and arrange over casserole. Bake until golden brown and bubbly, about 25 minutes. Tips for creating the perfect board: • Start with the larger items first and build around those. If you are using jars on the board, place those first. • Be sure to have enough to fill the space. It is best to overfill so that the board doesn’t look sparse. Stack, stack and stack some more. • Use a variety of colors and textures when choosing the foods you want to use. Pick cheese with color and patterns, fruits and veggies that come in a variety of textures and colors and a protein that can make a statement. • Be sure to place similar colors in away from each other to help give symmetry.

The annual City Lifestyle Giving Campaign is in its 4th year. Last holiday season we gave away over $300,000 to help 116 individuals and families in need, but we need your help to make it happen again this year. With nominations flooding in from community members and leaders such as judges, police officers, teachers, nurses, social workers, mentors and readers like you, we were able to reach people who might otherwise go unnoticed. Perhaps you know of a single parent struggling to provide for their family, an elderly person who has experienced loss, someone enduring a health issue, a co-worker suffering a sudden, unexpected tragedy or a neighbor with a financial hardship who has fallen between the cracks of getting assistance. Chances are you know someone with a specific need, even if no one else does. “We believe in giving back and serving the communities where we live in a real and tangible way,” says Steven Schowengerdt, CEO and founder of City Lifestyle. “This Giving Campaign is about personally impacting the lives of people we know with an unexpected check in the mail just to say that someone thought of them during this holiday season.” “We believe God has blessed our company with continued success, so we in turn want to be a blessing to others,” Matthew Perry, President of City Lifestyle adds. This sentiment rings true for Kelsey Neel, a cherished member of our community, who, at the young age of 30, finds herself in a fierce battle against breast cancer. As the news of Kelsey’s diagnosis spread, the community rallied behind her, determined to provide the love, support, and financial assistance she needs during this challenging time. Kelsey, a dedicated and beloved member of the Coastal Alabama Insurance team, has touched the lives of countless individuals through her work. As a swim Instructor for the City of Gulf Shores for nine years, she has taught swim safety to numerous families, ensuring the well-being of their loved ones in the water. Her commitment to her role and her genuine care for the community have made her an irreplaceable figure in the lives of many. In a heartwarming display of solidarity, Kelsey’s co-workers and the community came together during Coastal Alabama Insurance’s customer appreciation day to organize a benefit in her honor. The event was a resounding success, raising an astonishing $11,000 to support Kelsey in her fight against breast cancer.
