A Deeper Level of Investing in People, Community, and Gold!

When we hear the word “investment,” our minds often drift toward market trends and portfilios. However, true investment is a currency of the soul—it is the intentional allocation of time, passion, and grit toward a vision. This month, we explore what it means to be fully "all in" on the things that matter most.

Nowhere was this spirit more evident than at the recent Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina. We watched in awe as athletes saw years of sacrifice culminate in the ultimate dream. A massive congratulations to the U.S. Men’s and Women’s hockey teams for their spectacular Gold Medal finishes. The pride they brought to our nation is immeasurable, and we extend a special "homegrown" salute to Grosse Pointe’s own Zach Werenski. Zach, your journey from our local rinks to the top of the Olympic podium is a testament to what lifelong investment looks like.

At Grosse Pointe City Lifestyle, our investment is rooted in the people and businesses that define our community. In this issue, publisher David Mattaliano shares our brand’s evolving vision. We’ve done the hard work of building a platform that tells the authentic story of the Pointes; now, our mission is to bridge those stories with the world beyond our borders. Through our new “Pointes of View” campaign—featuring former Mrs. Michigan, Rachel Adenaas, we are showcasing our community to affluent shoppers outside our area, inviting them to explore, shop, and fall in love with Grosse Pointe. This initiative follows the success of "The Heart of Grosse Pointe," ensuring our local economy continues to thrive.

Community investment also means showing up for one another. We sit down with Executive Director Krista Siddell to discuss the upcoming Helm Sporting Clays Classic. This annual fundraiser is more than a competition; it’s a gathering of neighbors raising vital funds for The Helm’s mission to support our seniors.

Finally, we are honored to share an exclusive interview with Tim Tebow. Tim has shifted his focus toward a new crusade: mentoring the youth of America. His investment in helping the next generation build their faith and prioritize life’s true essentials is a powerful reminder of how one person’s vision can change the world. Whether it’s on the ice, in a local boutique, or within our own homes, may we all invest in what lasts.

God bless all of you and thank you for your loyalty.  If not yet, please follow @ grossepointecitylifestyle.

AT THE HEART OF A CAMPAIGN

INVESTING IN OUR COMMUNITY

Small businesses are the heart of a community and play a large part in keeping it vibrant. Unfortunately, many of these local businesses struggle in a world of online retail and large chain brands with foreign ownership. Grosse Pointe City Lifestyle magazine is actively ensuring that these gems in our downtown areas not only survive, but thrive.

To make this happen, it’s crucial to attract consumers outside Grosse Pointe to shop here as well. During this past holiday season, the brand tweaked its “Heart of Grosse Pointe” support local campaign into “Holiday Magic Starts in Grosse Pointe,” targeting shoppers outside of the city.

“The goal was outreach to other affluent Metro Detroit communities to have people get excited to come and shop Grosse Pointe, take in its charm, explore the businesses, and find unique gifts they won’t find anywhere else,” says David Mattaliano, publisher of the magazine. “Grosse Pointe

offers a unique classic American historical town that no other community in Southeast Michigan can match.”

Utilizing the strength and trust in the Grosse Pointe City Lifestyle brand, he and his digital coordinator, Eric Novak, created a series of commercials promoting local businesses. Business owners were able to talk about who they are, why they were inspired to start a business here, and what they were offering during the holiday shopping season.

“Susie At Home is so grateful to Grosse Pointe City Lifestyle magazine for the beautiful way they spotlight the people and businesses that make our community special,” says owner Susan Stefani. “Their dedication to Grosse Pointe keeps our local spirit strong and thriving.”

She adds, “In addition to their focus on supporting local, the campaigns help us connect with affluent communities outside Grosse Pointe to bring in new shoppers

“THE CAMPAIGNS HELP US CONNECT WITH AFFLUENT COMMUNITIES OUTSIDE GROSSE
POINTE TO BRING IN NEW SHOPPERS AND CONVERT THEM INTO CUSTOMERS WHO MIGHT NOT OTHERWISE THINK OF COMING HERE.”

and convert them into customers who might not otherwise think of coming here.”

Other business owners agree. “As the owner of The Spice & Tea Exchange, I saw firsthand how the Heart of Grosse Pointe campaign brought energy and connection back to our downtown during the holidays,” says Sara Biery. “It reminded people—both residents and neighbors from surrounding

communities—that Grosse Pointe is a special place to shop, dine, and gather.”

Adds Gigi Badalamenti, “The Heart of Grosse Pointe campaign was a very successful introduction to people to our great city.  In addition, we had a great deal of new clients who saw it and came into Pearl for the holidays, making it our best season ever!”

“The key to a successful plan is the trust and consistency that our print magazine has earned throughout Metro Detroit,” adds David. “Otherwise,  you become digital noise with no brand, no plan, and no trust. Grosse Pointe City Lifestyle makes that connection verifiable and four times more effective, combining print and digital into a cohesive plan.  That leads to converting people into customers.”

Now, a new campaign, “Grosse Pointe City Lifestyle Presents Pointes of View with Rachel Adenaas,” is launching in April. “We will be teaming with former Mrs. Michigan Rachel Adenaas, who lives here in Grosse Pointe and is a perfect fit for the crucial 30-65 affluent female demographic,” he says. “By combining Rachel’s authority and opinions with Grosse Pointe City Lifestyle, we will inspire people to come and visit, shop, dine, explore, take in shows, find unique gifts, and experience the world-class community of Grosse Pointe.”

The town’s history, location, iconic venues and buildings, high-end shopping and shows, amazing parks, and the beautiful and majestic Lake St. Clair are all incredible draws. “There’s always so much going on here, and it’s actually a very buzzing city,” says Rachel. “We’ve got so many new businesses, and I think that it’s an exciting opportunity to showcase those too.”

She’s looking forward to getting to know many of the business owners whom she hasn’t yet had the opportunity to meet. “I love fashion, and when I wear things that I bought locally, I think ladies are expecting that maybe I went to Somerset or I ordered it online. So, when I’m able to share that what I’m wearing came from just around the block from where I live, it’s a great boost to local businesses. That gives me great satisfaction.”

Many of these business owners, Rachel explains, support our kids’ travel teams, elementary schools, and other local establishments. “It’s this real full-circle moment when I need a pair of jeans and I’m buying them from a business in my community that also supports my kids’ schools or that provides coffee to our teachers or school boards. I love how we are all supporting each other.”

David is excited about what this campaign can mean for Grosse Pointe and is especially thrilled to be working with Rachel. “She’s a wonderful lady and highly accomplished,” he says. “Rachel has an aura and energy that shines through, and I think she’s really going to connect with people—so they’ll come and visit, shop, and enjoy Gross Pointe.”

Harnessing Grosse Pointe City Lifestyle’s digital following, its new campaign, Grosse Pointe City Lifestyle Presents Pointes of View with Rachel Adenaas, will focus on supporting shopping local and bringing new customers from outside of Grosse Pointe.

It's always sad to see a small business—someone’s dream— close its doors. “That’s a reminder to us that if we want to see these businesses continue to thrive, we all have a responsibility to support them,” says Rachel.

Redefining MVP: TIM TEBOW’S LIFE BEYOND FOOTBALL

An exclusive Q&A with City Lifestyle

PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED

From championship trophies to global humanitarian impact, Tim Tebow’s journey has defied every standard playbook. In an exclusive conversation for the Share the Lifestyle podcast, Tebow pulls back the curtain on the moments that truly defined him, from a humbling middle school church retreat to the life-altering shift of fatherhood. This isn’t just a look back at a career; it’s an invitation into the heart of a man driven by purpose. Read the highlights below, then join us for the full, unfiltered experience by scanning the QR code at the end.

Q: WE ALL KNOW YOUR ACCOMPLISHMENTS ON THE FOOTBALL FIELD, BUT TELL US ABOUT THE CURL CONTEST.

A: I was competing for my future high school team (my brother’s team), and I pushed myself way past what was smart. I ended up collapsing and needing medical attention. But what stayed with me wasn’t the pain, it was the lesson. Would I be willing to do something that others aren’t? For much of my life, I strived to bring my best for a game, but I hope that I can say at the end of my life I was willing to do that for things that actually matter.

Q: YOU’VE ACHIEVED SO MUCH IN SPORTS. WHAT WOULD YOU SAY IS YOUR GREATEST ACCOMPLISHMENT NOW?

A: Becoming a dad. Nothing compares. From the moment I knew my wife was pregnant, I felt a new depth of love for our child, but when you bring your baby home, the responsibility hits you like nothing else. Suddenly, everything you see, every decision you make, you’re asking, “Is this corner too sharp? What happens if she reaches that drawer?” It changes how you see the world and how you see other people.

Q: YOU’VE SPOKEN OPENLY ABOUT DISAPPOINTMENT, ESPECIALLY AROUND FOOTBALL. HOW DID THAT SEASON OF LIFE SHAPE YOU?

A: I talked a lot about that very thing in my book Shaken . We all go through moments where our faith in our abilities and purpose feels rattled, but I believe it’s often in those storms when God can show us who we could become.

Q: YOU TALK A LOT ABOUT COMPARISON CULTURE. WHY DO YOU BELIEVE COMPARISON HAS BECOME SUCH A TRAP TODAY?

A: Because we’re comparing our real, everyday lives to someone else’s highlight reel. Social media shows people’s “best day,” often filtered and staged, and then we measure our reality against that. There’s a reason filters are so popular—it’s not real. We end up scrolling through images that don’t tell the full story, and without realizing it, comparison starts to steal our joy and our gratitude.

“We’re comparing our real, everyday lives to someone else’s highlight reel... comparison starts to steal our joy.”

Q: YOUR FOUNDATION FOCUSES ON THE “MOST VULNERABLE.” WHERE DID THAT CALLING BEGIN?

A: When I was 15, I met a boy in the Philippines who was treated as a throwaway because he was born with physical differences. That moment changed me. I realized God was calling me to pursue a different kind of MVP, not “Most Valuable Player,” but “Most Vulnerable People.”

Q: FINALLY, WHAT’S ONE THING PEOPLE MIGHT BE SURPRISED TO KNOW ABOUT YOU?

A: I have some weird coffee habits, which include protein powder, collagen, and cream all mixed together. I love golf dates with my wife. And every night, I bring snacks to bed to share with our dogs. It brings me more joy than it probably should.

This conversation barely scratches the surface. Tim goes deeper into the moments that rattled him, the joys of fatherhood, and one story he has never shared publicly until now. Scan the QR code for the full, exclusive City Lifestyle interview on Share the Lifestyle Podcast.

A DAY OF CLAY

ARTICLE BY SUE BALDANI | PHOTOGRAPHY BY THE HELM

Fundraisers often offer Tricky Trays, galas, bowling, and other fun events. For the third year in a row, The Helm at the Boll Life Center in Grosse Pointe Farms is doing something very unique. “We had a number of our donors who were interested in doing clay shooting, so we started looking into it a few years ago,” says Krista Siddall, The Helm’s executive director.

The first fundraiser was so successful that they decided to continue to hold the event. This year, The Helm Sporting Clays Classic is being held on Thursday, May 14, from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at The Huntsman Club in Dryden.

Sponsors sign up in teams of four, and in addition to clay shooting, there’s so much more. The day starts off with some amazing appetizers, and then the clay shooting takes place. Afterwards, the groups come back in, grab a drink, and then sit and have a leisurely lunch in the clubhouse. There is a relaxed flow to the whole day.

“It’s honestly one of my favorite events of the year for a couple of reasons,” she says. “One, we have it at The Huntsman Club, and it is a lovely place to be outside all day. We’ve had a lot of people say how nice it is just to get to drive out there, relax, and be out shooting in that environment.”

Krista’s second reason is the food. “We do a lunch and there is a variety of wonderful food. It is unbelievably great and one of my favorite meals of the year. The Club offers a really wide variety of specialty items such as little steak sandwiches, really great shrimp, hummus and pitas, vegetable dishes, and all types of meats that you can’t necessarily always find.”

THE HELM SPORTING CLAYS CLASSIC

There’s also a great assortment of desserts, including mini pastries and cookies. The Huntsman Club, she says, is very customer-centric, so they try to meet everyone’s taste.

Attendees also appreciate the camaraderie of the event, with the opportunity to get together with friends, family, and neighbors and just have a great time.

The fundraiser is offering four different types of sponsorships this year: Presenting Sponsor - $10,000; Shooting Station - $4,000; Ammo - $3,000; and Clay - $2,000.

All sponsorships also include a four-person team entry fee, ammunition, appetizers, lunch, cocktails, beer, wine, and soft drinks; recognition on The Helm website; verbal recognition at the event; and recognition on signage. Lunch-only and other options are also available. More information about these and what each sponsorship includes can be found on The Helm’s website.

“People love the food, they love being out there, but at the same time they are learning more about The Helm in an environment that is a little bit slower paced,” says Krista.

While many in the community understand just how vital the organization is, many others don’t realize all that it does. It’s all about neighbors continuing to help neighbors to get through the latter part of life with grace and dignity.

“We served over 3,183 individuals last year,” she says. “We had close to 2,000 calls and home visits, about 2,000 medical equipment loans, and we served 33,000 meals last year. And, the need and the demand continue to increase.”

The Helm also provided more than 4,200 hours of programming last year. “We do 250 programs a month, and we are growing. We are adding an adult day program in The Village that will be launched in the spring.”

This is huge because it will be a safe place for those suffering with dementia or decreased cognitive function to stay for a few hours a day so caregivers can get some muchneeded respite. “We’re looking to expand beyond our walls because we’re almost hitting capacity,” says Krista. “We want to have more of a global campus around the community, offering different programming. We’ve got a lot of big plans, and it’s an exciting time for us.”

She explains the organization depends on fundraisers throughout the year for a large percentage of its budget. “They help us to continue to grow our services and serve more people. We’re seeing a huge flux of people turning 60 and over every day in Michigan, as well as in Grosse Pointe, and it’s important that we can continue to shift our services to meet the needs of the demand that we see every day.”

For those who cannot attend any of the fundraising events but still want to support The Helm’s mission, they can donate right on the website. “We always really appreciate that as well,” says Krista.
