LIFESTYLE LETTER

What Never Goes Out of Style There are certain things that never lose their beauty. Kindness. Integrity. Generosity. The willingness to show up for your neighbors when they need you most. While this issue celebrates fashion, style, and creativity, I found myself thinking less about what hangs in our closets and more about the qualities that truly define a person. Fashion has always been a reflection of self-expression, but character is what leaves a lasting impression. Living and working in Greenwich has given me a frontrow seat to something truly remarkable. Behind so many of the organizations that strengthen our community are people quietly giving their time, talents, and resources not because they're seeking recognition, but because they genuinely care. They serve on nonprofit boards after long workdays. They organize fundraisers, mentor students, stock food pantries, advocate for families, and continually ask one simple question: How can I help? This month's cover story celebrates three extraordinary women who embody that spirit in uniquely different ways. Angelique Dawson, Katie Fong, and Sammie Lazar Jacobs have each built successful careers, but what impressed me most wasn't what they've accomplished professionally, it was how intentionally they've chosen to use their influence in service of others. Their stories remind us that leadership isn't reserved for a select few. It begins with saying yes, showing up, and making the choice to leave every corner of our community better than we found it. That message feels especially meaningful today. In a world that often celebrates bigger, faster, and louder, these women remind us that some of the most powerful acts happen quietly. A volunteer shift. A mentoring conversation. A fundraising committee meeting. A neighbor helping another neighbor. These moments may never make headlines, but together they shape the Greenwich we all love. As you flip through these pages, I hope you're inspired not only by the incredible fashion, beautiful local businesses, and stories we've curated, but also by the people behind them. Our community is filled with individuals who believe success is measured not simply by what we achieve, but by what we give back. Thank you for supporting the local businesses, nonprofits, and organizations that make Greenwich such an extraordinary place to call home. Every purchase made locally, every volunteer hour given, every donation, and every act of kindness helps strengthen the fabric of this community. Because while trends will always evolve, generosity never goes out of style. With gratitude, LAURA SABIA, PUBLISHER @ G R E E N W I C H L I F E S T Y L E M AG

CHOPPE D GR E E K SA L A D

The perfect back-to-school salad for busy weeknights, easy lunches, and September gatherings.

Isabel Smith

September in Darien and New Canaan means school buses, packed schedules, and dinners that need to come together fast. This chopped Greek salad has become my go-to for exactly that kind of week. It takes about 15 minutes start to finish, needs zero cooking, and makes the most of the last of the season's vine-ripened tomatoes and cucumbers while we can still get them. It's the kind of dish I make for a quick weeknight dinner, pack for lunch the next day, or bring to a September gathering when I want

something that feels fresh but isn't fussy. It also happens to be one of the most requested recipes in my own house once the after-school activities start piling up on the calendar. As a Registered Dietitian, I love this salad because it's doing more than filling you up. The romaine, tomato, and cucumber are full of fiber that feeds the good bacteria in your gut and keeps digestion moving smoothly. Olive oil and olives bring hearthealthy monounsaturated fats that also help calm

inflammation in the body. The fresh herbs and vegetables supply antioxidants that protect your cells and support immune function, which matters as everyone heads back into closer quarters at school and work. And because the meal is so well balanced, it helps keep blood sugar steady, which supports both hormone health and the kind of even, lasting energy you need to get through a long September day. It's proof that simple, fresh ingredients can make a real difference in how you feel, not just how a meal tastes.

Ingredients (serves 4) • • • • • • • • • • • •

3 hearts of romaine, chopped 1 tomato, chopped 1 bell pepper, chopped 4 oz dairy-free or regular feta cheese (we love Violife) 1/2 cup olives, chopped 1 mini cucumber, chopped 1/3 cup olive oil 3 tablespoons red wine vinegar 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard 1 clove garlic, chopped 1 tablespoon fresh oregano, chopped Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

1. Wash and prep all of the vegetables, then chop them into bite-sized pieces. 2. Combine the romaine, tomato, bell pepper, feta, olives, and cucumber in a large serving bowl. 3. In a small bowl, whisk together the olive oil, red wine vinegar, Dijon mustard, garlic, oregano, salt, and pepper until well blended. 4. Pour the dressing over the salad and toss gently to coat.

5. Serve right away, or store the dressing separately if you're meal-prepping for the week ahead.

Serving Tips & Substitutions

This salad is endlessly easy to customize, which is part of why it's stayed in my regular rotation. Add grilled chicken, salmon, or chickpeas to turn it into a heartier main course, or stir in cooked quinoa or brown rice if you want something more substantial for dinner. If dairy is a sensitivity, a plant-based feta like Violife keeps all of the flavor without the digestive upset; if not, traditional feta is delicious here too. A handful of fresh parsley, dill, or mint on top adds extra brightness and a boost of antioxidants. This is also a great one to prep ahead: chop everything and keep the dressing on the side in a separate container, so lunches are ready to assemble in under a minute all week. It also holds up well in a lunchbox or thermos container, which makes it an easy one to send along on busy school mornings.

Where to Source It Locally

September is actually a wonderful month to shop hyper-local for this one. The Darien Farmers Market and New Canaan Farmers Market typically run through the end of the month, and both are excellent sources for the last of the season's tomatoes, cucumbers, and fresh oregano, often picked that same morning. Palmer's Market in Darien is a great stop for good olives, a quality olive oil, and feta. If you're looking for a dairy-free option, most local grocers, including Stew Leonard's in Norwalk, now carry plant-based feta right alongside the traditional kind. What's your favorite way to use up the last of summer's produce before fall arrives? I would love to hear about it.

If there is one place that perfectly captures the essence of la dolce vita, it's Grand Hotel Excelsior Vittoria in Sorrento, Italy. With sweeping views of the Bay of Naples and Mount Vesuvius, the iconic hotel feels less like a place to stay and more like a destination itself. Family-owned since opening its doors in 1834, the hotel has mastered the art of honoring its past while embracing the expectations of today's traveler. Original antiques, frescoed ceilings, marble staircases, and meticulously restored furnishings tell the story of the hotel’s legacy, while thoughtfully renovated guest rooms, impeccable service, and every contemporary comfort ensure the experience feels effortlessly luxurious.

The hotel's breathtaking terrace is where la dolce vita truly comes to life. As the sun begins its descent over the water, it’s clear there's no better place in Sorrento for an aperitivo. Days at Grand Hotel Excelsior Vittoria begin just as memorably with one of Italy's most spectacular breakfast spreads featuring, of course, fresh espresso, hot and cold dishes, and a centerpiece table filled with dozens of fresh cakes, pastries, and homemade citrus marmalades made from the hotel's own garden. As evening falls, the culinary experiences are equally exceptional—from Michelin-starred dining at Terrazza Bosquet, to leisurely dinners at the hotel's al fresco garden restaurant, CONTINUED >

L'Orangerie. For a lively toast, the elegant La Pergola champagne bar offers the perfect setting to sip a glass of bubbles before another unforgettable Sorrentine evening. One of the hotel's greatest luxuries is its location. Just beyond its grand gate lies the heart of Sorrento, Piazza Tasso, where cobblestone lanes wind past artisan boutiques, trattorias, and cafés. Whether you’re lingering over lemon gelato or sailing off to Capri or Amalfi, everything is within reach. At Grand Hotel Excelsior Vittoria, the care & legacy aren’t just confined to the walls—it’s something you feel upon check-in. It's a place where timeless elegance, exquisite hospitality, and the simple pleasure of slowing down come together to remind you that la dolce vita isn't just an Italian expression, it's a way of life.

Cultural Icons Grand Hotel Excelsior Vittoria's rich cultural legacy continues this summer with a special exhibition celebrating the centenary of Marilyn Monroe's birth. Curated by Deodato Arte, the immersive exhibition transforms the hotel's historic lounges, terraces, and gardens with works by Andy Warhol, Mimmo Rotella, Mr. Brainwash, Mr. Savethewall, and Giuliano Grittini. The showcase is especially meaningful given Monroe's own stay at the hotel in the late 1950s. The exhibition joins a remarkable artistic heritage that has long defined the property. In 1921, Enrico Caruso spent his final days here, now commemorated in the Caruso Suite, while devoted guest Luciano Pavarotti is honored with his own suite featuring a private terrace overlooking the Bay of Naples and memorabilia from his extraordinary career. The hotel also welcomed Lucio Dalla, whose beloved ballad Caruso forever linked Sorrento with one of Italy's most enduring musical masterpieces. For nearly two centuries, Grand Hotel Excelsior Vittoria has served as both sanctuary and muse, inspiring generations of cultural icons.

Leading Greenwich Through Purpose, Partnership, and Lasting Community Impact Together GREENWICH UNITED WAY'S PRESIDENT BELIEVES MEANINGFUL LEADERSHIP BEGINS WITH LISTENING, COLLABOR ATION, AND MEASUR ABLE COMMUNITY IMPACT ARTICLE BY LAURA SABIA

26

LOCA L LIM E LIGH T | LO CAL SE RVICE S

After decades in the banking industry, David Rabin discovered a different kind of return on investment. As president and CEO of Greenwich United Way, he now measures success not in financial growth, but in stronger families, healthier children, and a more connected community. "What I regret most is not making the move to the nonprofit sector sooner," he says. "Every day, I have the privilege of working alongside people who genuinely want to improve lives." That purpose became even clearer after seeing the hidden challenges many Greenwich residents face. Despite the town's reputation for affluence, nearly one-third of residents benefit from programs and services supported by Greenwich United Way. Through its research-driven

Community Needs Assessment, the organization identifies the community's greatest needs and invests in evidence-based solutions that strengthen education, mental health, financial stability, and basic needs. For Rabin, leadership begins with listening. He believes lasting change comes from bringing people together, building trusted partnerships, and ensuring every donor dollar creates measurable impact. After calling Greenwich home for more than four decades, he says the town's greatest strength is its people. "What makes Greenwich so special is that people here truly care," he says. "When a community comes together around a common purpose, incredible things are possible."

Three Greenwich women proving generosity and style create extraordinary community impact There is something remarkable about Greenwich. It is a town known for extraordinary homes, beautiful boutiques, celebrated restaurants, and a timeless sense of style. Yet beyond the storefronts of Greenwich Avenue and the galas that fill the social calendar is something even more enduring: a community where generosity quietly shapes everyday life. Here, philanthropy isn't reserved for special occasions. It happens in food pantries, hospital boardrooms, classrooms, museums, fundraising committees, neighborhood nonprofits, and countless volunteer hours that rarely make headlines. Behind nearly every organization making a difference is someone willing to give their time, talent, expertise, or voice in service of others. Fashion has always been a reflection of identity, and perhaps that's why it pairs so naturally with philanthropy. The way we present ourselves often tells a story long before we speak. Confidence becomes a platform. Creativity becomes connection. Influence becomes an opportunity to lift others. The three women featured in these pages have built successful careers in remarkably different ways. Each has built a life rooted in excellence, yet none defines success by professional achievement alone. Instead, they measure it by the relationships they've cultivated,

30

the organizations they've strengthened, and the opportunities they've created for others. Their influence extends well beyond boardrooms, boutiques, or fundraising events. It can be found in mentoring future leaders, supporting local families, preserving beloved community institutions, and quietly inspiring others to become more engaged in the place they call home. One found purpose through nonprofit leadership and advocacy. Another creates beauty through design while weaving philanthropy into every stage of her business. The third has inspired hundreds of women to discover that leadership begins simply by saying yes to serving others. Their styles are different. Their careers are different. Their journeys are different. But they share something far more important. Each has chosen to use her success as a catalyst for strengthening the community she calls home. Because true style is never defined by what hangs in your closet. It is reflected in how you lead, how you give, and how you make others feel. Meet three Greenwich women proving that influence is most beautiful when it's shared.

“Every community becomes stronger when people stop waiting for someone else Compassion often begins with seeing needs that others overlook. For Angelique Dawson, giving back has become both a personal mission and a family legacy. Some people collect beautiful things. Angelique Dawson prefers collecting opportunities to make a difference. When Angelique Dawson speaks about fashion, she lights up. She delights in bold color, exceptional craftsmanship, and timeless design, whether she's attending Paris Fashion Week, discovering a local boutique, or supporting the artisans behind every beautiful piece. But ask what truly defines her, and the conversation quickly shifts from couture to community. "I've realized that fulfillment comes from purpose rather than accomplishments alone," she says. An attorney by training, entrepreneur, investor, wife, stepmother, and grandmother, Dawson spent years building a successful career before discovering an even greater calling through philanthropy. Introduced to Neighbor to Neighbor by a close friend after making Greenwich her full-time home, she was struck by the reality that food insecurity and financial hardship exist just minutes from some of the town's most affluent neighborhoods. Serving on the organization's board transformed her perspective. Volunteering in the pantry, she says, has taught her humility, empathy, and the power of simply showing up. Her commitment to giving extends beyond Neighbor to Neighbor. Through the Angelique and William F. Dawson Jr. Charitable Trust, she supports organizations including Reach Prep, amfAR, and the American Red Cross—an organization especially meaningful after losing her father to complications from sickle cell disease. In 2027, she will co-chair the American Red Cross Metro New York North Red & White Ball, helping advance awareness and lifesaving blood donation initiatives.

To many, those moments are the glamorous side of philanthropy, the galas, elegant evenings, and fundraising celebrations. But Dawson is quick to point out that the real work happens long before guests arrive. It happens in food pantries, through volunteer shifts, board meetings, and countless conversations about how to better serve neighbors in need. Whether she's helping stock shelves at Neighbor to Neighbor or advocating for blood donation awareness, she believes meaningful impact is created through consistency, compassion, and a willingness to show up. Whether she's in a boardroom, a pantry, or on Greenwich Avenue, Dawson believes style is ultimately about authenticity. "There is nothing traditional about me," she says with a smile. "I've been reminded of that many times, and honestly, it makes me proud." For Dawson, the most beautiful accessory anyone can wear isn't found in a jewelry box, it's a generous heart, a willingness to serve, and the courage to lead with compassion. CONTINUED >

For Katie Fong Biglin, creativity doesn't end at the sewing table. Her greatest designs may be the relationships she's cultivated throughout the Greenwich community. Designer Katie Fong Biglin believes the most beautiful creations are built through relationships, generosity, and heart. Long before Katie Fong Biglin opened the doors to her Greenwich boutique, she was sketching gowns, dreaming of becoming a fashion designer, and learning that beautiful things are created with intention. Today, while her timeless designs have become synonymous with elegance, the life she's built extends far beyond fashion. "I used to think success meant being the most well-known," she says. "Now it's about creating something meaningful for real women and building genuine relationships." Born and raised in Greenwich, Biglin studied at the Fashion Institute of Technology before apprenticing with iconic fashion houses including Oscar de la Renta, Stella McCartney, and Vera Wang. In 2013, she took a leap of faith, leaving her corporate career

34

to launch the Katie Fong Collection from her parents' library. Two years later, she opened her boutique just off Greenwich Avenue, where she continues designing custom pieces while raising two young sons with her husband, Owen. Walk into her boutique and you'll quickly understand that Fong isn't simply creating gowns. She's helping women celebrate life's most meaningful moments. From weddings and galas to milestone celebrations, every sketch begins with listening. She believes exceptional design starts with understanding the woman wearing it, creating pieces that feel effortless, timeless, and unmistakably personal. That same philosophy carries into every organization she supports: relationships always come first. That same commitment to craftsmanship has naturally extended into philanthropy. Over the years, she's become deeply involved with organizations including the Bruce Museum, Greenwich Hospital, and Mothers for Others, where she serves on the board and helps lead fundraising initiatives.

Leadership doesn't always arrive at the perfect moment. Sometimes it's born from life's greatest challenges and the people who refuse to let you face them alone. Former Junior League of Greenwich president Sammie Lazar Jacobs believes the greatest legacy is inspiring others to lead. If you spend even a few minutes with Sammie Lazar Jacobs, one thing becomes immediately clear: she believes community isn't something you inherit, it's something you build. A lifelong Greenwich resident, Jacobs met her husband in third grade before life eventually brought them back home to raise their own family. Today, after serving as the most recent President of the Junior League of Greenwich and continuing her work with The Rowan Center, she remains committed to strengthening the community that shaped her. "My kids are my 'why,'" she says. "They get to see firsthand that serving your community isn't something you talk about it's something you do." CONTINUED >

Sammie Lazar Jacobs

For Biglin, volunteering has never been about checking a box, it's about creating connection. Many of her closest friendships began while serving alongside others, united by a common purpose. She believes strong communities are built the same way she approaches design: thoughtfully, collaboratively, and with authenticity. Whether she's creating a custom gown, mentoring another volunteer, or introducing a friend to a nonprofit she loves, relationships always come first. "Success isn't just about personal achievement," she says. "It's about using your time and your talents to lift others up." In both fashion and philanthropy, Biglin proves that the most enduring designs aren't simply worn, they're woven into the fabric of the community she proudly calls home.

That commitment was tested when her son faced serious medical complications shortly after birth. As she stepped away from a leadership role she had eagerly accepted, she feared the opportunity had passed. Instead, the women of the Junior League surrounded her with unwavering support, encouraging her to return when the time was right. She went on to serve in successive leadership roles before completing her term as President during the League's 2025–26 year. The experience reinforced a lesson she carries into every part of her life: resilience matters more than perfection. As President of the Junior League of Greenwich during the 2025–26 League year, Jacobs helped lead one of the community's most respected volunteer organizations through another year of service, leadership development, and civic engagement. Yet she insists the title was never the goal. Instead, she hopes her journey encourages more people, especially young women to step into leadership before they feel completely ready. "Why not me?" has become more than a personal mantra; it's an invitation she extends to anyone wondering if they can make a difference. Whether she's advocating for survivors through The Rowan Center, pursuing a graduate degree in Psychology and Spirituality at Columbia University, or encouraging others to volunteer, Jacobs believes leadership begins with asking one simple question: Why not me? Her personal style is vintage, colorful, and unapologetically bold which perfectly mirrors her outlook on life. "I like to describe myself as a human disco ball," she says. "I want to be a reflection of light." For Jacobs, philanthropy isn't simply about giving back. It's about showing others what's possible, creating opportunities for people to shine, and ensuring every family has the chance not just to survive but to truly thrive. Communities are never defined by a single leader or a single organization. They are shaped by people who quietly choose to give more than they take, who recognize that the greatest influence isn't measured by titles or accomplishments, but by the lives they touch along the way. Long after the gala ends, the gown is carefully stored away, and the photographs become cherished memories, what endures is the impact left behind through generosity, compassion, and service. Angelique Dawson, Katie Fong, and Sammie Lazar Jacobs remind us that while fashion may reflect personal style, philanthropy reflects character. In Greenwich, the most timeless statement anyone can make isn't what they wear it's how they choose to lead, give back, and strengthen the community they proudly call home.

Wear Colors That Truly

LOVE YOU A quick guide to finding flattering shades for life.

KNOW YOUR UNDERTONE Your undertone doesn’t change with the seasons. Check your wrist veins: blue means cool, green means warm, and unclear may be neutral. Cool tones love jewel colors; warm tones glow in earthy, rich shades.

CONSIDER CONTRAST Do you have high contrast between your hair, skin, and eyes (like dark hair and light skin)? High contrast looks great in bold, clear colors. Low contrast (like blonde hair and fair skin)? Softer, blended tones often suit you best.

THE WHITE VS. CREAM TEST Hold a white and ivory shirt near your face. If white flatters, you're likely cooltoned. If ivory glows against your skin, you're likely warm-toned. This quick test reveals your undertone with ease.

BUILD AROUND YOUR “WOW” COLORS Once you identify a few colors that make you look and feel amazing, use those as the base of your palette. These are your power colors—build your wardrobe and makeup around them!

PRO TIP You don’t have to follow rules perfectly. Your color palette is a guide, not a limit. Mix, match, and most importantly—wear what makes you feel beautiful.

ARTICLE BY LAURA SABIA | PHOTOGRAPHY BY BROOK ROAD PHOTOGRAPHY

Dignity Begins With Compassion Laura Delaflor transformed one overlooked need into a movement restoring dignity, confidence, and hope for thousands across our region Some of the most meaningful ideas begin with a simple question. For Laura Delaflor, Co-Founder and Executive Director of The Undies Project, that question emerged during an ordinary conversation in 2015. She learned that underwear is one of the most requested but least donated items at shelters and community organizations because it must be brand new. Once she understood the need, she couldn't look away. "I realized something so basic could restore dignity in a profound way," she says. "Everyone deserves the confidence and comfort that comes from having clean, new underwear." At the time, Delaflor was a stay-at-home mom deeply involved in the Greenwich community, volunteering at her children's schools, with the Girl Scouts, at the YMCA, and at Greenwich Hospital. Giving back had always been part of her life, but she never imagined one conversation would inspire an organization that has since distributed more than 700,000 pairs of new underwear to children and adults experiencing hardship. For Delaflor, the mission has always been about far more than clothing. It's about reminding every recipient that they

40

are seen, valued, and deserving of dignity. "Sometimes the smallest act of kindness has the greatest impact," she says. "A package of new underwear may seem simple, but it can restore confidence, improve health, and remind someone that they matter." That perspective has reshaped her own definition of success. Years ago, success meant raising her family, volunteering, and being present for those she loved. Today, she measures it by creating something that will continue improving lives long after her own chapter is written. Leading a nonprofit has also transformed her understanding of leadership itself. "Leadership is less about directing people and more about listening, adapting, and serving," she explains. "When people share a common purpose, incredible things can happen." She credits much of The Undies Project's growth to the remarkable generosity of the local community. Volunteers organize collection drives, businesses become sponsors, families donate, and neighbors spread awareness, all proving that meaningful change is often built through collective action. Outside of her work, Delaflor enjoys spending time with her family, caring for her father, walking, traveling when

she can, and making memories with her grandchildren. Her personal style reflects the same philosophy she brings to life and leadership: classic, comfortable, authentic, and quietly elegant. Rather than chasing trends, she chooses pieces that make her feel confident and prepared for whatever the day may bring. Looking ahead, Delaflor hopes a new generation of volunteers and leaders will continue expanding the organization's mission while inspiring others to recognize that underwear is not a luxury, it's a basic necessity. In a Fashion & Philanthropy issue celebrating women who lead with purpose, Laura Delaflor reminds us that true style isn't defined by what we wear. It's reflected in how we care for one another, often through the simplest acts of compassion.

“ Sometimes the simples t ac t of kindness res tores more than comfor t . It res tores dignit y, conf idence, and the reminder that ever y per son mat ter s.”

COASTAL CHIC, PERFECTED

A TIMELESS COLLECTION BRINGING NANTUCKET'S EFFORTLESS SUMMER STYLE TO GREENWICH'S SHORELINE AND BEYOND

ARTICLE BY LAURA SABIA

Every issue, I'll be sharing one of my favorite finds that perfectly captures the spirit of the season and this month, nothing says New England summer quite like vineyard vines' new Nantucket Women's Collection. As someone who loves timeless pieces over fleeting trends, this collection immediately caught my attention. Inspired by one of the East Coast's most iconic summer destinations, it blends classic coastal style with thoughtful details that feel both elevated and effortless. From soft hydrangea-inspired hues to handdrawn illustrations of Nantucket baskets, sailboats, and island landmarks, every piece tells a story rooted in craftsmanship and tradition. What I appreciate most is its versatility. Whether you're heading to a waterfront dinner in Greenwich, spending the weekend on Nantucket, hosting friends in the backyard, or simply enjoying a stroll through town, these pieces transition beautifully from one summer moment to the next. Lightweight sweaters, breezy dresses, polished separates, and timeless accessories create the kind of wardrobe that feels elegant without trying too hard. As a New England brand founded on nearby Martha's Vineyard, vineyard vines has always celebrated the relaxed sophistication that defines summers along our coastline. This newest collection feels especially fitting for Greenwich, where classic style and coastal living go hand in hand. Even better, our local vineyard vines store is one of only a handful of locations carrying the exclusive collection, making it an exciting addition for shoppers looking to refresh their summer wardrobe with something truly special. Although, the best pieces in your closet aren't necessarily the trendiest, they're the ones you reach for year after year. This collection feels destined to become exactly that.
