Home, Reimagined

March is a season of quiet transformation. The light shifts, routines soften, and we begin to look at our homes and ourselves with fresh perspective. In Greenwich, where history and innovation live side by side, home is both a sanctuary and a reflection of how we choose to live.

In this Home Issue, we explore spaces and stories that inspire intention, purpose, and beauty at every scale.

At home, thoughtful design takes center stage. From a stunning Backcountry Greenwich stone manor reimagined by Beth Krupa Interiors, to a serene and beautifully executed master suite remodel by Lara Michelle, this issue showcases how craftsmanship, restraint, and vision can transform spaces into places of true retreat. These projects honor architectural heritage while embracing modern living which is timeless, livable, and deeply personal.

We also turn our attention to how our homes support the way we work today. Anna Barnes shares essential insights on creating work-from-home spaces that are both functional and refined, proof that productivity and beauty can coexist when design is intentional.

Together, these stories reflect what makes Greenwich so special: a deep appreciation for quality, a respect for legacy, and a forward-thinking approach to how we live now.

As always, thank you for welcoming us into your homes and for being part of this remarkable community.

WORK FROM HOME

ESSENTIALS

Aesthetic, functional items to keep handy on your desk

A thoughtfully styled work-from-home desk is about more than aesthetics. While working from home can often feel mundane, the right desk essentials add both style and functionality. These are the items that earn a permanent place on my desk for working smarter and feeling inspired.

We spend so much time elevating our kitchens and bedrooms, yet when you work from home, your desk is where countless hours are spent. The Canopy Portable Humidifier brings that same intention to your workspace, improving air quality, easing dryness, and adding a sleek, wellness-forward touch you’ll actually feel. Getcanopy.co

A candle warmer lamp is a chic, functional upgrade for your work-from-home desk. It fills your space with subtle scent without open flame, creating a cozy, focused vibe. Gentle warm light enhances ambiance while reducing eye strain, making long workdays feel more intentional, calm, and beautifully scented. Anthropologie.com

A pair of Bose noise-cancelling headphones are a home-office game changer. Their worldclass noise cancellation drowns out kids, pets, and appliances (yes, even that pesky dryer song) so you can focus on work or calls. Comfortable enough for even the longest meetings, with a gorgeous design and clear call quality, they look chic and professional on video. Bose.com

Even the most monotonous email check feels better with a beautiful mug in hand. The right mug can turn your morning coffee or tea into a small ritual, adding warmth and intention to your day. It’s a simple, personal upgrade that goes a long way. Mackenzie-childs.com

I always keep a ChappyWrap blanket on my desk chair—it’s my go-to for chilly mornings or when I need a little afternoon comfort. I love the way it warms up the space; draped over my desk chair making my workspace feel cozy and inviting. A little luxury to turn long work-from-home hours into something a bit more enjoyable. A luxurious Italian leather desk blotter instantly elevates your work-from-home setup. Beyond its sleek, timeless look, it creates a defined workspace that keeps papers, notebooks, and tech organized. THE

PHILOSOPHY FÊTE

La Maison Fête Is Redefining Entertaining Through Intention, Beauty, and Meaningful Connection

In a time when entertaining has shifted away from spectacle and toward something far more meaningful, La Maison Fête has quietly become a beacon for those who believe gathering is an art form. Part event design studio, part curated retail shop, the Bedfordbased brand, founded by partners Deanna Marano and Brett Cameron, is redefining how the area hosts, with warmth, intention, and a deeply human point of view.

At the heart of La Maison Fête is a simple but powerful philosophy: everything begins with how people come together. Whether they are designing a private celebration or sourcing pieces for their shop, Marano and Cameron approach their work as one continuous expression of hospitality. The store itself feels like an extension of their events, filled with beautiful, considered pieces meant to be used, enjoyed, and layered into everyday life rather than saved only for special occasions.

That same philosophy guides how they curate the shop. When sourcing inventory, they look first for timelessness, quality, and personality. They are drawn to pieces that feel special but not precious, items that age beautifully, layer effortlessly, and tell a story over time.

Ask them what they personally couldn’t live without when entertaining, and the answer is refreshingly simple: versatile placemats, beautiful linen napkins, and candles, always candles. These are the elements that do the most work in setting the tone of a gathering.

For them, entertaining well isn’t about perfection or performance. It’s about anticipation, ease, and genuine care. That sensibility carries into their retail space, which feels less like a store and more like stepping into a thoughtfully prepared home. From the moment visitors walk in, the space invites lingering, browsing, and imagining how these pieces might live in their own homes.

To Marano and Cameron, the difference between a beautifully styled home and a truly welcoming one is subtle but profound. A welcoming home feels lived in and generous. It invites guests to sit, to linger, to pour another glass. It’s less about perfection and more about presence, soft lighting, thoughtful details, and a sense that someone has considered your comfort.

Table Set up at a LMF Event

For first-time hosts, their advice is equally practical: invest in good linens and great lighting. A simple table becomes instantly elevated with beautiful napkins or a tablecloth, and nothing replaces the warmth of candlelight.

They also point to two often-overlooked details that instantly elevate a home gathering: scent and a thoughtfully set bar. Scent creates memory and emotion the moment guests arrive, whether it comes from a candle, fresh greenery, or something gently simmering on the stove. And a well-layered bar, complete with glassware, garnishes, ice, and candlelight, creates confidence for the host and comfort for the guest, becoming both functional and a focal point of the room.

Their favorite category in the store is tabletop, where function meets beauty and the magic of gathering really happens. Among their most cherished finds are their vintage pieces, including a current favorite: a pair of vintage brass candlesticks sourced on a market trip.

Marano and Cameron have seen home entertaining become more intimate and intentional. People are hosting smaller gatherings with greater care, focusing on connection rather than spectacle. What excites them most about the future is the return to meaning: thoughtful hosting, personal touches, and spaces that reflect how we truly live and gather.

The most memorable gatherings are the ones where the host is present, relaxed, and enjoying the moment alongside their guests.

In other words, perfection is overrated. Presence is everything.

A LUXURIOUS RETREAT REIMAGINED

Serene neutrals, thoughtful planning, and custom details transform a dated master suite into a modern sanctuary designed for everyday indulgence.

From the moment you step into this reimagined master suite, there’s an immediate sense of calm—an exhale that signals you’ve entered a space designed not just to be seen, but truly lived in. For  Lara Michelle Beautiful Interiors, this renovation was about far more than updating finishes; it was about solving long-standing design challenges while creating a retreat that feels effortlessly luxurious and deeply personal.

The original vision centered on softness and serenity. The clients wanted a modern, contemporary suite layered in soothing neutral tones—an environment that felt restful after long days. But the existing layout worked against that goal. An awkwardly placed, unused fireplace dominated the bedroom, while the bathroom felt dark, dated, and inefficient for a space of its generous size. Lara immediately saw opportunity where others saw limitations. Removing the bulky fireplace opened the room, improved proportion, and allowed the bedroom to finally breathe. In the bathroom, a full gut renovation made way for a brighter, more functional layout that fully embraced the square footage.

In the bedroom, the palette is intentionally restrained—soft grays, warm beiges, and crisp whites that work together to create a quiet backdrop. Texture does the heavy lifting here. A custom-upholstered leather bed anchors the space with understated sophistication, while velvet accents on the chair and bench add a subtle sense of indulgence. Plush carpeting underfoot delivers that “walking on a cloud” feeling

Lara believes every bedroom deserves, and sheer white drapery softens the window lines, filtering light rather than blocking it.

The bathroom tells a complementary story of modern luxury and smart design. Large-format porcelain tiles that mimic marble provide the elevated look of stone without the maintenance, ensuring beauty meets real-life durability. Marble and gold mosaic tiles in the shower floor and niche introduce just the right amount of visual interest—an elegant moment that rewards closer inspection. Custom vanities, crafted by Lara’s carpentry workroom, are finished in a rich teak stain that brings warmth and balance to the space. Overhead, a double-tiered crystal pendant adds sparkle without overpowering the room, a reminder that functional spaces can still feel glamorous.

Some of the most impressive details are the ones you might not notice at first glance. In the bedroom, chunky crystal pendants replace traditional bedside lamps, making a statement while maintaining a refined simplicity. In the bathroom, Lara’s signature

problem-solving shines: the “hers” vanity appears perfectly symmetrical, yet behind a cleverly designed faux door lies a series of slim, custom pull-out drawers tailored to the client’s jewelry collection. It’s a hidden solution that preserves the design’s clean lines while delivering exactly what the homeowner needed.

For Lara, balancing serenity with daily functionality isn’t a compromise—it’s the foundation of good design. Every fabric, finish, and fixture is selected for performance as much as beauty. Layout, scale, and flow are meticulously considered, ensuring the space works seamlessly day after day. “Design challenges are like puzzles,” she says, and this suite is a masterclass in how thoughtful planning brings all the pieces together.

Her advice for homeowners considering a renovation is refreshingly honest: start with a grand wish list, then refine it to what truly matters. A well-designed space doesn’t happen overnight. It requires patience, education, and detailed planning before construction ever begins. When every decision is made upfront, the renovation itself becomes smoother, faster, and far less stressful.

The result is a master suite that feels luxuriously pampered yet entirely livable—a space that proves great design isn’t just about how a room looks, but how it makes you feel.

“Balancing beauty and practicality is the essence of great interior design—it’s where thoughtful planning transforms everyday spaces into luxurious retreats.”

A BACKCOUNTRY GREENWICH STONE MANOR REIMAGINED

PHOTOGRAPHY BY ANASTASSIOS MENTIS
Our goal was to completely reimagine the residence into a joyful, family-friendly sanctuary.

This whole-home interior design and renovation in Greenwich, CT was created for a career-driven couple entering their next chapter—one child off to college and another soon to follow. With a newfound focus on working from home, the design was tailored to their evolving lifestyle. Though grand in scale, the newly purchased home initially felt cold and overly formal, lacking the warmth and personality that reflected its new owners. Our goal was to completely reimagine the residence into a joyful, family-friendly sanctuary—equally suited for entertaining, relaxing, and creating memories when their children return home.

The living room, traditionally reserved for special occasions, was transformed into a purposeful space for everyday use. An intimate game table offers a quiet moment for chess while seamlessly connecting to the main seating area. A handforged, contemporary chandelier serves as a sculptural focal point, casting a delicate, artful glow. Low-profile, light-colored furnishings further maximize daylight, creating an inviting atmosphere that encourages connection and conversation.

For the entryway, the clients desired a grand first impression that captured their family’s essence. A large original painting in the stairwell set the tone for the home’s color palette and established an art-driven narrative carried throughout the interior design.

For the husband’s office, the goal was to create a highly functional space that reflected his bold, modern sensibility while honoring the home’s traditional architecture. The design was anchored by three original artworks—including two graffiti-inspired pieces: a lit graffiti painted mirror and a commissioned artwork featuring four hearts symbolizing each family member. His personality is further expressed through a hand-knotted designed area rug and impactful lighting. Supporting his frequent workfrom-home schedule, the office functions as a high-tech workspace while also serving as an extension of the home’s entertaining areas for natural overflow. Inspired by his favorite hue, the wall colors saturate the space and set the mood for focus and productivity.

In the lower level, a multi-purpose destination equally invites teens and adults—while completely defying the typical basement aesthetic. The existing bar was redesigned with bistro shelving, stone countertop, marble backsplash mosaic wall, tailored lighting, and a rebuilt soffit with custom grillwork. A custom pool table with a furniture-quality finish includes a removable multifunctional top, converting seamlessly from a ping-pong table to a buffet or dining surface. Just out of sight includes a golf simulator and game/poker table. Original art and elevated finishes mirror the level of design found on the main floor, transforming an underutilized space into a vibrant entertainment destination perfect for sports viewing, games, and gatherings.

Anchored by the home’s striking stone facade, the outdoor space was designed for both relaxation and celebration across multiple zones. The bluestone patio serves as the central hub, flowing from dining and lounging to play. A sleek concrete dining table with teak chairs converts into a regulation-size pingpong table, while a relaxed-height, custom 26-inch round table paired with lounge-height chairs offers an intimate family dining option. The outdoor kitchen and bar provide seating for six, and a nearby stone firepit—with teak armchairs and a hidden firewood nook—creates yet another cozy gathering spot.

Art became the defining layer that elevated the home from beautiful to extraordinary. The result is a warm, highly functional home—an inviting sanctuary supporting work, play, relaxation, and lasting family memories. To see more photos of this project, visit bethkrupainteriors.com

MID-CENTURY WARMTH, REIMAGINED

There’s a certain moment when a house stops feeling new and starts feeling like home. It isn’t marked by square footage or finishes alone. It is something quieter, more emotional. In this home, designer Kate Manz set out to do exactly that: give a newly built home a heartbeat and a soul.

Rather than treating the house as one sweeping statement, she approached each room as its own story, layered with meaning, memory, and texture. The result is a home that feels collected, personal, and deeply lived-in.

“Tackling each space and room as its own story and concept is how to make a new space feel personal,” Manz explains. “But bringing it all together cohesively is always the challenge.”

Her solution? Warmth, intention, and a strong belief in the power of people. In new builds it can take years for a home to shed its newness. For this project, the goal was to fast-track that sense of belonging by layering in pieces with history and heart. Vintage market finds, local artists, and meaningful objects play a starring role throughout the home.

“My love for design goes hand in hand with the people and stories that bring it to life,” she says. “I absolutely love seeing the evolution from concept to completion and all the elements and people that help bring those ideas to reality.”

That philosophy becomes especially important in the home’s expansive open-concept living area, where scale could easily overpower intimacy.

THE OPEN CONCEPT, REIMAGINED

The main living space is defined by bringing the outside in with sweeping outdoor views and generous proportions. Rather than fighting that openness, embrace it.

“The big open concept room really highlights the expansive outdoor views,” she says, “but making intimate spaces within that open room was really important.”

A layered niche wall, created in collaboration with the interior architect Nick Flower, brings both structure and softness to the room. It introduces texture, depth, and a place for unique objects and family heirlooms to live, turning negative space into a personal gallery.

DESIGN TAKEAWAY:

In large rooms, architectural details like niches, built-ins, or material changes can create visual rhythm while giving meaningful objects a true home.

ENTRYWAY: A WARM WELCOME

The entryway sets the tone with a simple but powerful goal: Welcome to my home.

Natural stone underfoot grounds the space, while a soft vintage rug and living greenery immediately soften the experience. Art with personal meaning invites guests to linger rather than rush through.

MATERIALS:

DESIGN TAKEAWAY:

An entryway doesn’t need to be loud to be memorable. Combine tactile materials with one or two meaningful elements to create an instant emotional connection.

Santa and Cole Tekió Light, Vintage Rainer Draumiller Chairs, American Leather custom couch in Bison Butterscotch, Flos Bellhop lamp, BZippy Vase, Plush Moroccan rug
Luca split stone pavers, Vintage Turkish rug, Plants, Virginia Sin Wall hook

POWDER BATH: SMALL ROOM, BOLD SPIRIT

If there’s one place Manz encourages clients to take risks, it’s the powder room. Here, she leaned into terracotta earth tones, layering textures and tile sizes for visual interest and warmth. Patterned and solid tiles work together, while textured wall coverings and a sculptural stone sink elevate the space from functional to delightful.

MATERIALS:

Particular Tile in Satin Terracotta and Vanilla Bean, Arté Wallcovering Shards in Brick Red, Red travertine sink, Rachel Donath chunky mirror, Playful art work by Olivia Fields

DESIGN TAKEAWAY:

Small spaces are ideal for experimentation. Mix patterns, finishes, and textures within a tight color family to create depth without overwhelm.

LOUNGE: A STUDY IN CALM AND DEPTH

Designed as a counterpoint to the openness of the main living area, the lounge is a cocoon, both peaceful, layered, and deeply versatile. It’s a place for reading, movie nights and slow mornings. Rich tones and varied textures do the heavy lifting here, creating depth without heaviness. Soft lighting and custom upholstery make the room feel both intentional and effortless.

MATERIALS:

Virginia Sin pendant light, In Common With sconce, Arté Oblong wall covering in Ochre, Particular Tile in Vapor, Custom sage velvet sofa, Plush Vintage Moroccan rug

DESIGN TAKEAWAY:

When a room serves many purposes, let texture and tone create cohesion. A restrained palette with varied finishes keeps the space flexible and serene.

At its core, this home is a reminder that design isn’t about perfection, but rather it’s about feeling. By treating each room as its own narrative while weaving in warmth, history, and human connection, a space was created that already feels loved.
