Summer is the perfect time to come up with a bucket list of activities to enjoy and ways to unwind and relax. Some of the best summers spent are often not filled with constant activities and trips, but are those that reflect a slower pace and simple moments of enjoying those around us. Although the “lazy days of summer” isn’t always something we can attain with our packed schedules, it is so refreshing to take some time to slow down and enjoy some of the simple pleasures that remind us of our own childhoods. Some of the best times spent can be a backyard barbecue with friends, making s’mores by a fire pit, spending a day on the water, eating ice-cream on a hot summer day, or simply taking in the night sky with someone you love. One of our favorite summer activities in Greenwich is sneaking out of the office a bit early on a beautiful summer evening. Grabbing pre-packaged salads, sandwiches from Aux Delices and then hopping onto the ferry to Island Beach for dinner and enjoying the beautiful views. In this issue, we wanted to share about some of the happenings around our town this summer and ways to get out and explore together. In addition, it is our privilege to shine a light on local veterans in our community and to thank them for their service in honor of the Fourth of July. We have an immense respect for the men and women who make the selfless decision to serve and protect our nation. There is no greater sacrifice than to risk your life in order to protect others. The team at Greenwich Lifestyle wants to thank all veterans, those still serving and all of their loved ones for your service. I hope you are able to enjoy some of the many things our town offers during these hot days of summer and that you make memories with those around you that you love.

GL: WHAT TYPES OF SERVICES DO YOU OFFER? JM: We started offering themed party designs for sleepovers and picnic parties. We are now scaling up to adult and corporate bespoke event designs, and event planning services. We can help with almost all the aspects of a party. We also are embarking on new projects that will allow us to serve on many new fronts. Over the last few years, the world has evolved to focus on experiences, that’s what we’re bringing into homes through the power of party designs. We take a theme and blow it out so that the environment becomes a unique and magical place for the guests – from being in a safari adventure to being in a unicorn world to a chic ambiance celebrating a mom’s 40th. It’s taking events beyond memorable and helping our clients build the lasting relationships we all want.
GL: WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO START DREAM AND PARTY? JM: I learned about the teepee parties from my nephews in Colombia and I immediately knew that this concept would have a lot of appeal in Greenwich. I saw an opportunity to take sleepovers and kids’ parties to the next level. We wanted to offer an integral service aimed to help moms host hassle-free kids’ parties at home, but honestly, this tremendous business growth and expansion to new services, in such a short period of time, took us by surprise. Our service area now includes lower Fairfield and Westchester County. We are beyond grateful to every client that has trusted us with their special celebrations and has recommended our services.
GL: WHAT IS THE BEST PART OF YOUR JOB? JM: We absolutely love styling and creating exclusive party designs. Seeing our designs become a reference in many countries is just indescribable. However, the best part of our job comes from our interaction with the clients. Whether they’re business leaders or busy mothers, these are people

Anderson Kenny
WHAT MAKES ANDERSON KENNY ARCHITECTURE UNIQUE?
WHAT TYPE OF EXPERIENCE DO YOU BRING TO ANDERSON KENNY ARCHITECTURE?
Anderson Kenny Architecture is a full-service practice that encompasses a range of commissioned residential and commercial projects and we consider architecture a dialogue between art and science. Each project is a thoughtfully edited collaboration tailored specifically to the client. Our process of planning involves navigating the municipalities and designing from the inside out and then the outside in – it’s an ebb and flow process like a tidal wave, not just one direction – as well as proportion, detailing and the long view. An ideal project for us is going to be around for decades, not years like furniture. These items have a shelf life for good reason, however, we look at our projects as heirlooms, heritage pieces and things that will outlast us in order to make an impact on the fabric of the community in which we are building long after us.
In addition to my undergraduate studies, I attended business school at Yale for a very specific reason – to be more efficient at managing time and money in order to better service our clients. Every client has a budget and a schedule. It doesn’t matter if your net worth is $1M or $10B, everyone is concerned about the bottom line. In my experience, the wealthier the client, the more aware they are of money and time as it’s extremely valuable to them. While at Yale, I also focused on the business of sustainability. The next big push for our firm is to leverage new, green technologies and practices to help our clients make their investments socially and economically more appreciated. Fossil fuels and unsustainable building practices could expose our clients in the future to liability. The more that we can think about how best to build with the environment, the less risk we put on our client’s properties in the future.
TELL US ABOUT YOUR BACKGROUND. I grew up in Nashville and received my architecture degree from the University of Tennessee after some encouragement from the Dean of Architecture who took an interest in my work. I ended up coming to Connecticut 20 years ago to work for Centerbrook Architects in Essex, as they were doing some very interesting things at the time in green design. Shortly after, I met my wife at a party while she was literally choking on a hamburger. I gave her the Heimlich and we’ve been together ever since! She eventually convinced me to move to NYC where I worked for Michael Graves, Peter Marino and Victoria Hagen before launching my own firm eight years ago. Anderson Kenny Architecture embodies a charismatic approach to the art of architecture and we have a passion for informed details expressed through a portfolio of rich minimalism, classic proportions and enduring elegance.
HOW HAVE YOU BUILT CONFIDENCE OVER THE COURSE OF YOUR CAREER? Confidence is the result of resiliency. Resiliency is built by looking at business as an ecosystem. In architecture school, we were taught the Miesian mindset that ‘less is more’; searching for ways to distill work down to its essence to get closer to truth, poetry and grace. I have learned to lean into the complicated, messy structure of a problem and make things simpler, which became the reality of what we do in architecture typically isn’t. We balance aesthetic with function. We ask the tough, intimate questions and adjust successes and failures. If we aren’t constantly evolving as a firm every day, then we are dying. CONTINUED >

“I come home every day and it makes me happy because of what you designed.” WHAT IS THE BEST PART OF YOUR JOB?
WHAT ARE YOUR TIPS FOR GROWING YOUR BUSINESS?
The best part is the connection. That moment when you know that you’ve reached a team member, an employee, a colleague or a client. It’s that idea, detail or rare master plan that has been steeping in your brain. At some point, it clicks and your audience goes, “Ohhh, I get it.” We may not save lives like a first responder or surgeon, but as architects, we try to help people live fuller lives.
Growing my business is directly related to the treatment of my team. It goes back to the ecosystem analogy of resiliency. A good team that is happy, has trust in the organization and feels valued and heard with diverse points of view is the greatest asset a company can have. Without that asset, it would be impossible to lead, guide and scale a business toward success. Additionally, the long view is important. We pursue projects that will hopefully outlast a timeline. Architecture is not a getrich-quick scheme. It is hard work over a period of time, failures and successes. It requires patience and sustainable growth is being motivated by the idea that some of the trees planted today won’t provide shade until after you’re gone.
WHAT DOES SUCCESS MEAN TO YOU? Success is that note out of the blue from an old client that says, “I come home every day and it makes me happy because of what you designed.” I am a firm believer that we all have been given unique talents. The more that I can use those talents to help others – as opposed to burying them – the more successful I am.

HOW GRIGG STREET PIZZA IS ELEVATING THE HUMBLE PIE
Bacon, onion, black truffle, honey, and Calabrian chili pizza on sourdough crust. Just… wow. I mean, you can’t make this stuff up. At least the mortal throngs of us can’t. Yet two culinary deities disguised as guys from Greenwich can.
John Corbo and Matt Watson created Grigg Street Pizza (on Grigg Street - get it?) which has had foodies salivating with praise for the past two years. They opened, cautiously, in 2020, one night a week. The onslaught of orders “blew the doors off the place,” describes Matt. They consistently sold out and decided to open two nights a week - Friday and Saturday. Still, if anyone wanted a slice of their magic they had to place their order three days in advance. Two years later the guys have added staff, tossed more pies per diem, and still sell out on Fridays. They even caution Saturday nighters to order in advance lest they wander home hungry and pizza-less. You may be wondering… why all the hubbub? Two reasons: First, Matt and John use the best ingredients available - organic tomato, high end flour - and the Grigg guys and gals make everything in the Grigg gallery, each pickled pepper, shred of mozzarella, batch of béchamel. Even the sandwich rolls (they’ve added sandwiches. Chopped porchetta, salsa verde, cheese sauce). “We’re basically a scratch house,” says Matt. Sometimes they collaborate with other notables, such as Greenwich Que Co. for brisket (smoked brisket, onion, salsa verde with Fresno chilis pizza on squid ink sourdough crust). Speaking of sourdough, they make that, too, from the starter they made from scratch. And the squid ink? Black crust. I mean… who thinks of this?? (Besides them.) There’s also the Grampa Pie (“Our version of a grandma style/Detroit style/Sicilian style cross breed”) and the insane Thursday Special Pie - as of this writing, it’s a classic cheese topped with their Greek Salad con crunchy radish/parm/and Green Goddess dressing. These guys are hands-on. Matt and John “make 95% of the pizzas ourselves. It’s a blessing and a curse because we’re here six days a week…” Plus, they don’t offer delivery so they can get to know their customers. “I don’t want to know their life story,” admits Matt.

“I just want to know them a little bit.” I agree. I’d like to know who’s cooking my dinner, but I don’t need to know the saga of their impacted toenail. Second, their resto is off the hook hopping. Matt and John both dig rock so every day they bring on the beat and spring loose the tunes (B-52s, Joe Cocker, Nirvana). “People love music and being silly,” explains Matt. They cross-promote with their friends from The Capitol Theater, with ticket give-aways for live performances (Gary Clark Jr., The Disco Biscuits). So watch @GriggStreetPizza for a chance to win while ordering dinner. Or lunch. Third - I’m surprising you with a third reason - they’re super kool kats living the dream. “We’re laughing, we’re joking and having a good time,” Matt smiles. “I make pizza for a living. It can’t get much better than that.” GriggStreetPizza.com @GriggStreetPizza

When Rene Prasad worked for a tech firm, the Chicago-based businesswoman spent a lot of time traveling for work. In Europe? To the Far East? Try nondescript convention centers in tired downtowns up and down the Eastern seaboard. “I spent a lot of downtime in hotel rooms and not in the greatest spots,” says Rene, who has called Westport home for the last four years. While scrolling around for ways to pass the time on the hotel TV or her laptop, she stumbled across online programs that would help a creative, adventurous sort like herself become a travel expert. “You can become a specialist in Italy or Mexico or anywhere else. It sounded like fun,” she says. “And I was in a place in my life where I could do something like that.” So she started surfing the web and training herself in the fine art of well-planned, savvy travel. Pair her newfound expertise with a lifelong love of new experiences and both a passion and a profession were born. Rene is now the founder and driving force behind Grand Explorations Travel, a boutique agency designing luxury and personalized travel for those who want to build one-of-a-kind journeys of their own. “What do I love about it?” Rene says, a wide smile blossoming across her face. “I love how new experiences open people’s eyes. Seeing a new perspective, traditions, cultures – it changes you as a person.” And if the daunting task of planning a trip is not your idea of an excellent adventure, Rene may become your best friend. In addition to having researched everything from some of the most picturesque locales in popular Italy to the dos and don’ts of Dubai, she specializes in tailoring trips to her clients. She has plenty of advice for those hoping to dip a toe in the post-COVID travel pool.

• Read the small print. The good news is the world is opening up with each passing month, but make sure you know just what you’re getting into. Keep tabs on oft-changing restrictions and precautions for your transport, accommodations, and itinerary. Better yet, let a trusted advisor keep tabs for you. • Consider incorporating your hobbies into your trip. When she meets with clients, Rene asks a slew of questions. Recently she found out a couple enjoyed motorcycling and found a way for them to rev up their Hawaiian adventure with some exhilarating sightseeing rides • Considering a cruise, but don’t want to spend a week listing to starboard? Try
a gentler, more intimate journey down a river. While the port of call for a huge, ocean-going ship can be a half-hour or more from your destination, smaller river boats often drop anchor near the bustling center of town. • Where is everybody? Want to be where the action is in August? Snag a beach house – a summertime respite before the school year begins anew. January blues? You’re likely to find post-holiday “wave season” deals on cruises for people who want to get away from the winter blahs. • Join the big leagues. The Ladies’ Travel League, that is. As we move past the pandemic, Rene is hoping to reinvigorate her idea for a women’s group travel option to
places like Morocco, where local guides help bring the culture alive. Travel mates don’t have to be the spouse and kids. While travel always has a few unexpected surprises up its sleeve, Rene said she adores her career and the fact that she will have visited six of the seven continents after an upcoming trip to Antarctica. She’s hoping to plan a jaunt to Australia to finish the list soon. What makes it all so memorable? “The people,” she says without hesitation. “Most of my clients have been really lovely people.”

Bags are packed, reservations are made, and the Out of Office automatic reply is letting everyone know you have officially entered vacation mode. There’s one thing that’s lingering: how to go on vacation without pressing pause on the fitness progress you’ve made, or avoid commuting to a gym and paying drop-in fees. Mayhem Athlete provides online programming that guarantees challenging workouts which can be done in 30 minutes or less. These quick but effective workouts incorporate compound movements such as burpees, push ups and lunges. Compound movements use more than one muscle group, requiring more energy from your muscles to recover. This means you can continue to burn calories while enjoying the beach or sitting at work, long after the workout is over. The Mayhem Athlete M30 program offers two options for all fitness levels. Mayhem Bodyweight, a 30-minute format that requires no equipment, and Mayhem Minimal, a 30-minute format which only requires a couple dumbbells. Mayhem Athletes’ easy to use app, SugarWOD, provides you with a warm up, workout, accessory cool-down, and coaching video - ensuring you get the most out of your 30 minutes! You can also find video demonstrations for each movement within the app and a community of like-minded individuals who are doing the same workouts around the globe.
