After moving to Greensboro in 2007 to attend UNCG, Sarah Chapman fell in love with the local community. But she felt like something was missing: not-sweet tea. That might be a dead giveaway that she’s not from around here. Indeed, Sarah grew up in upstate New York and has fond childhood memories of playing ice hockey and sharing a special post-game ritual with her dad: Warming up with a mug of hot tea. Although Sarah originally went
to school for fashion, her focus on global trade and a study abroad program in Thailand really solidified her connection to tea, in addition to cultivating an appreciation for fair-trade practices. For years, Sarah lived with the frustration that her body didn’t react well to common medicines. “I got really into tea and also noticed how much it helped me,” Sarah explains. Beyond the comfort, she experienced the health benefits of herbalism first-hand and accumulated a wealth of knowledge on the subject over time. She felt inspired to share with others what she refers to as an “all-natural, holistic approach to problem solving.” At first Sarah started small: She bought some beautiful teapots and she’d haul them to people’s homes for private tastings where she’d tout her tea offerings as “equal parts healthy and delicious.” This eventually led her to open Vida Pour Tea in 2014 as a way to merge her interests in wellness, ethics, and connection. It started with just 15 blends, but over time the shop has grown into a haven for herbalism, handcrafted goods, and mindful living. Sarah makes all her own tea and herb blends but also partners with other herbalists—like Haya Herbs, a woman-owned herbalist in North Carolina—to bring her customers the best possible offerings. She also currently supplies her custom blends to 40 businesses and restaurants across the U.S., including Greensboro favorites like Sage Mule and Chez Genèse. The shelves at Vida Pour Tea are lined with teas, tinctures, and natural products selected for both enjoyment and efficacy. “I can’t sell anything I can’t
speak about,” she says. If someone comes in asking for help with sleep or anxiety, Sarah will provide them with a few different options—the typical chamomile and lavender, but also herbs like linden flower or valerian root and reishi mushrooms. Mushrooms are a growing trend. “Lion’s Mane is great for ADHD and memory retention. We sell a lot of it,” she adds. Many products sold in her shop are vegan, gluten-free, and thoughtfully sourced. “It’s about making people feel comfortable—whether they have allergies, dietary restrictions, or just want to know what they’re putting in their body.” But beyond the health benefits, she believes tea offers something deeper: a daily ritual of mindfulness. “So much of it isn’t even about herbalism—it’s about slowing down,” she reflects. Making a cup of tea forces you to pause. You feel the steam, breathe, and give yourself a few minutes to just be. “I want people to feel like this is a place to come and get away ... to turn off the world.” Visit Vida Pour Tea at 412 State Street in Greensboro and at www.vidapourtea.com/.

SWEETS The beginning of the year is packed with inspiration and motivation to get back on track after a sweet-filled holiday season. It can feel extreme, and it also can be depleting to cut oneself off from everything indulgent after weeks of eating favorite sweet and savory recipes. For sugar lovers who believe going cold-turkey feels intimidating or overwhelming, nutrition-packed desserts are a great way to stick to healthy food goals without the guilt.

1. Cut a banana into 8-10 small slices, around 1/2 inch each. 2. Spread 1/2 tablespoon of peanut butter (or your choice of nut butter) on each banana slice. 3. Drizzle a small amount of melted chocolate chips or caramel over each bite. 4. Freeze for 15-20 minutes and enjoy! Pro tip: A dash of sea salt flakes on top of these can be *chef’s kiss.* These are great to keep on hand in the freezer all weeklong. Once they set, add them to a closed container to keep the bananas from browning.
Late night snack cravings are real! When finding yourself rooting through the cabinets for a sweet fix, these protein cookie dough bites are a great way to curb temptation. This recipe yields around 20 small bites, which can be cut into small squares or rolled into dough balls. Each bite is around 105 calories. If you find the dough is a little too dry, add a dash of milk as needed. Ingredients • 1/4 cup milk • 1/2 cup vanilla protein powder • 1/4 cup maple syrup • 1/4 cup peanut butter (or alternate nut or sunflower butter) • 1 cup almond flour • 1 teaspoon vanilla • Chocolate chips as desired Pro tip: Use mini chocolate chips and for a dash of savory add sea salt flakes on top. Once combined, store the bites in the refrigerator in a covered container to keep them moist.

Danger ahead: this snack is amazing. It’s the easiest of the bunch and also satisfies a sweet tooth craving. This can be whipped together in just 5 minutes and makes just a small amount. Feel free to take creative liberty here with your amounts, but if you make it to this recipe, they are around 90 calories per bite.

GOOD HEALTH STARTS HERE DR. HUFF HELPS PATIENTS LIVE FULLER, PAIN-FREE LIVES Growing up, Dr. David Huff was an active and spirited boy. “The Lord blessed me with extra energy,” he says with a laugh. He was diagnosed with ADHD and prescribed Ritalin, and recalls his transformation from a naturally energetic boy to a dulled zombie. He saw the adults in his life struggling, too—managing life through anxiety medications. This observation sparked early questions. Why did so many people seem to be surviving rather than living? Could there be a better way? Those questions followed him to UNC Greensboro, where he studied kinesiology and sports science. While working out during college, Dr. Huff injured his back and visited his mother’s chiropractor. The experience was transformative. “He fixed my back—but more than that, I learned how the spine and nerve system actually work.” Looking back, Dr. Huff sees that as the catalyst for his future career. As he relocated and built his career, Dr. Huff trained and practiced in a variety of chiropractic settings: high-volume practices, adjustment-only clinics, and a national franchise model. The experience greatly broadened his skillset. Dr. Huff was able to see various
models of chiropractic care, what worked and what didn’t. He also developed expertise with treatments such as spinal decompression, PEMF therapy, photobiomodulation, and cutting-edge devices and medical equipment that can help people get answers about their health. After returning to his hometown, Dr. Huff and his wife Amanda officially opened Good Health Greensboro in 2018. In 2020, the Greensboro Chamber of Commerce named Dr. Huff Small Business Person of the Year, and in 2025 he was voted Triad’s Best Chiropractor. What started as a modest practice has since grown three times— the latest being an 800-square-foot expansion. The practice offers a variety of therapies such as chiropractic care, acupuncture, cupping, spinal decompression (which can help address sciatica and disc issues), and red-light body-contouring. Last year, the practice welcomed acupuncturist Jason Trakas, whose advanced allergy and hormone therapy techniques have produced remarkable results. Dr. Huff and his welcoming staff make beginning your wellness journey at Good Health Greensboro feel easy and approachable. Every new patient starts with a consultation to discuss CONTINUED >

health concerns, tour the office, meet the team, and establish goals together. If needed, X-rays are performed in-house to get a clearer picture of what’s going on, and Dr. Huff provides a personalized game plan with options tailored to each goal. The team also verifies benefits and eligibility upfront so you understand exactly what your insurance will or won’t cover. “I treat [patients] as close to my grandma as I can,” says Dr. Huff, “we do things the right way.” Overall, Dr. Huff’s approach is to help patients avoid surgery, reduce medications, and see improvements they once thought impossible. “I want folks to know there are natural ways to help their issues,” he says, which can also be safer and more cost-effective. As Good Health Greensboro continues to grow, Dr. Huff remains grounded in the same mission that led him to chiropractic care decades ago: helping people live better, healthier, fuller lives.

Give your home a refresh How Moppers, Inc. helps Triad homeowners start the new year with spotless, sparkling spaces The new year is the perfect time to refresh and reset your living space. We spoke with Chanler Truesdale, owner of Moppers, Inc., to learn how to get your home in tip-top shape to start the year off fresh.
PEOPLE TEND TO USE THE NEW YEAR AS A TIME TO SORT THROUGH THEIR HOME AND ORGANIZE. HOW DOES BRINGING IN A PROFESSIONAL CLEANING SERVICE COMPLEMENT THESE EFFORTS?
Once homeowners have sorted, donated, or organized their belongings, a professional cleaning team steps in to deep clean the freshly cleared spaces—dusting corners, wiping shelves, and sanitizing surfaces that were previously hidden behind clutter. It’s the finishing touch that makes organizing feel complete. This allows the home to be more manageable moving forward as well.
WHAT TYPES OF CLEANING SERVICES ARE MOST POPULAR THIS TIME OF YEAR?
Deep cleaning and reset cleaning: After the holidays, families want a total refresh. Deep cleanings are the #1 request this time of year— tackling built-up grime in kitchens, bathrooms, baseboards, and vents. Clients love starting the year with a spotless, allergen-free home that feels brand new again. Popular

focus areas include inside cabinets and drawers, behind furniture, light fixtures, and high-touch surfaces. Move-in and move-out cleans: Winter real estate activity often picks up after the holidays. Sellers want homes photo-ready, and buyers want a spotless space before moving in. This is a popular time for pre-listing deep cleans and final move-out touch-ups.
WHAT MAKES MOPPERS, INC.’S APPROACH TO A “NEW YEAR CLEAN” UNIQUE OR ESPECIALLY SUITED FOR LOCAL HOMEOWNERS?
Moppers, Inc. isn’t a franchise—it’s a woman-owned, family-run business rooted right here in the Triad. Our team understands local homes, neighborhoods, and lifestyles because we live here too. We treat every client’s home with the same care and pride we’d give our own. Our “New Year Clean” isn’t about rushing through rooms. It’s about resetting your home from the inside out. We focus on the
areas most impacted by the holidays (kitchens, bathrooms, baseboards, and traffic zones) and leave your space spotless, sanitized, and ready for the year ahead.
HOW DOES YOUR TEAM ENSURE A HIGH LEVEL OF TRUST AND CONSISTENCY WHEN WORKING IN CLIENTS’ HOMES?
Our team is made up of carefully screened, trained professionals. Every team member goes through background checks, hands-on training, and shadow cleanings to ensure they meet Moppers’ exacting standards. We don’t just teach technique—we train for attitude, professionalism, and respect for your space. Our promise to you is to be reliable, respectful, repeatable. Every visit is designed to deliver the same level of sparkle and satisfaction. That’s how we’ve earned our reputation as the Triad’s #1 choice in home cleaning services—one trusted home at a time.
WHAT MAKES MOPPERS INC. THE SUPERIOR CHOICE FOR SOMEONE LOOKING TO HIRE A PROFESSIONAL CLEANING SERVICE?
We’re locally owned and personally invested. As a mom-owned, family-run business, Moppers, Inc. was built on relationships, not transactions. We live and work right here in the Triad, and every client is treated like a neighbor, not a number. That local connection drives our commitment to reliability, respect, and care in every home we enter. Ready to book your cleaning? Visit www.moppersinc.com/.

With more than 35 years in the fitness world, Michael Cain has seen how movement transforms lives. Now Health & Fitness Manager – Medical Fitness at Greensboro MedCenter at Sagewell, he draws on his background in athletics, personal training, and physical therapy to help people feel and function at their best. Michael says it’s natural for our fitness goals to evolve with age. In our 20s, motivation often centers on appearance and performance. In our 30s and 40s, our goals shift toward maintaining energy, managing stress, and staying strong. By our 50s and 60s, prevention takes priority as we see firsthand how aging affects our loved ones. One myth Michael is eager to address, however, is that aging limits progress. “I think the biggest misconception is that we can’t improve our fitness or build muscle after a certain age. We can continually get stronger,” he says. At Sagewell, he sees some members begin their fitness journey at retirement but quickly grow to appreciate it because of how it makes them feel. His advice is to keep it fun and social. Join a group fitness class with friends and grab coffee together after. Work with a trainer to ensure that you’re moving safely and effectively, and so you can feel more confident in the fitness center. Michael is also a huge proponent of water fitness, and Sagewell offers an exceptional aquatics center. Wherever you are in life, Michael’s message is simple: “It’s never too late to start.” Visit Sagewell Health & Fitness at 3518 Drawbridge Parkway or learn more at https://www.conehealth.com/ sagewell-health-fitness/.

The New Frontier of Health U N D E R S TA N D I N G T H E “WHY” BEHIND WELLNESS ARTICLE BY ANGELA BROOCKERD PHOTOGRAPHY BY JANIE JONES AND PROVIDED
AN INTERVIEW WITH DR. KYLE GILLETT
Why do so many people feel exhausted, foggy, or unwell, even when their medical tests insist everything is “fine”? Why are we prescribed quick fixes instead of being given real answers? Across modern medicine, a shift is happening. More patients are demanding real explanations, and more clinicians are rethinking what “healthcare” should actually mean. Leading that shift is Dr. Kyle Gillett, a dual board-certified physician in Family Medicine and Obesity Medicine and an expert in metabolic, hormonal, and preventive health. Through his clinic, research, and The Gillett Health Podcast, he’s become a trusted voice for people seeking science-based, root-cause solutions rather than symptom-based band-aids. “Functional medicine is really ‘root cause medicine,’” Dr. Gillett often says. “It’s about asking why the problem exists and not just quieting the noise.” In this Q&A, Dr. Gillett breaks down the most common questions he hears from patients and offers simple, actionable guidance anyone can begin using today.

I NSP IR E D BY | HEALTH + WE LLN E SS
1. “WHY DO I FEEL AWFUL EVEN THOUGH MY LABS ARE ‘NORMAL’?”
Dr. Gillett: I like to say, “There is no such thing as ‘we’ve done everything.’” We can always dig deeper. Often, the labs ordered are the wrong type of assay, or important markers like ferritin or SHBG—which binds testosterone and estrogen—are completely missed. Beyond lab work, there are other factors: mitochondrial health, sleep quality, mental health, and even how sensitive your dopamine and serotonin receptors are. “Normal” labs do not always equal normal physiology for you.
2. “HOW DO I FIX MY ENERGY, BRAIN FOG, OR SLEEP WITHOUT 20 MEDICATIONS?”
Dr. Gillett: Start with a good, comprehensive lab panel to assess nutrients and hormones. Then build the foundation with sleep. My favorite tool is the 10/3/2/1/0 rule: • 10 hours before bed: No caffeine • 3 hours: Avoid large meals and alcohol • 2 hours: No vigorous exercise • 1 hour: No bright blue or white light • 0: No snoozing and no inconsistent sleep/wake times Aim for 7+ hours of high-quality sleep. When sleep improves, energy almost always follows.
3. “IS MY GUT ACTUALLY CAUSING ALL THESE OTHER PROBLEMS?”
Dr. Gillett: Gut health influences most major health issues, but it’s rarely the only problem. Diet is my second pillar of health for a reason. Exercise, sleep, and stress reduction all improve gut function too. Even simple tools like self-hypnotherapy apps can reduce gut-related symptoms.
4. “WHAT CAN I DO RIGHT NOW, TODAY, TO START FEELING BETTER?”
Dr. Gillett: Focus on the pillars of health: diet, exercise, sleep, stress, sunlight, social connection, and spiritual health. Treat them like habits and find ways to make them enjoyable or easy to start. Supplements and medications are supportive tools, not substitutes. Think of them like turbo chargers: they enhance a system that’s already functioning.
A FINAL WORD FROM DR. GILLETT
“The goal isn’t to tell people what to do, rather it’s to give them the information they need to decide what’s best for themselves.” By understanding the why behind your symptoms, labs, and lifestyle choices, you become the driver, not the passenger, of your health journey.
“I believe that true innovation requires a commitment to constructive selfcriticism to continuously raise the standard of care.” To hear the extended conversation with Dr. Kyle Gillett, scan the QR code for an exclusive podcast episode.
