We believe comfort is much more than cozy chairs and down feather pillows. For us, and our clients, it’s about being able to access, store, and organize your home. Making our clients’ lives easier is important to us, and we’re thrilled to bring more happiness into their homes along the way.

As we press pause on the hustle and bustle of life putting together a monthly magazine, we’re able to look back on the past year and, most meaningfully, the stories from all of you that have made what we do possible. We also take this chance to think of those less fortunate and encourage you to take the opportunity this giving season to donate to local organizations or charities giving back locally. We hope that as you read this issue, you—like us—find inspiration in the lives and experiences of your neighbors and the connections that have been made. Happy Thanksgiving, Greensboro!

TRANSFORM YOUR BODY & TRIPLE YOUR STRENGTH.
OsteoStrong® is a revolutionary approach to quickly and painlessly achieve extraordinary gains in bone density and musculoskeletal strength. Originally developed as a safe, effective program for the 52 million Americans suffering from osteoporosis, athletes are now discovering OsteoStrong® helps them biohack their way to peak performance.
OsteoStrong’s® robot-aided growth trigger devices enable users to activate “osteogenesis,” a natural adaptive response whereby bone tissue is regenerated when the skeleton undergoes sufficient compression loading. The dose level of compression that occurs with running, jumping or weight bearing exercise is typically insufficient to trigger Osteogenesis. OsteoStrong® enables participants to safely, painlessly produce compression loads 4 – 8 times greater than with conventional exercises. The result? Healthier

AROUND TOWN Motley Morehead, the Italianate-style dwelling has portions that date back to 1795. According to Blandwood’s website, the house will be hung with “local and period greenery, as if prepared for a grand Christmas Ball. During this period, holiday festivities evolved and changed as modest ‘backwoods’ practices began to embrace national and international traditions.” The Christmas decor will be up through Dec. 30. Blandwood is located at 447 W. Washington St. in downtown Greensboro. Tours are conducted from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays. (NOT)HOME FOR THE HOLI DAYS BEING A FIRST RESPONDER OFTEN MEANS HAVING TO BE AT WORK DURING THE HOLIDAYS
SERVING AS A POLICE OFFICER, FIREFIGHTER OR MEDICAL TECHNICIAN MEANS WORKING AT A PLACE THAT NEVER CLOSES. And if you’re a first responder, you’ve very likely had to spend a few holidays on the clock.
But you don’t always have to be away from your family. Some
first responders say their families can come and hang out at their workplaces for a little while on the holidays. Others try to do a
little celebrating with their kids before leaving for the day. And others see their co-workers as a family of sorts.
The holidays are also a time for members of the community to express their gratitude, and first responders report getting food and many thanks while they’re out and about. And the first responders themselves enjoy making the holidays a little better for those in tough situations. Here are the stories of how three first responders spend their holidays on the job.

WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT THIS LINE OF WORK? I like being able to be out in the community, helping people. When we come, that may be the worst day of a person’s life. So just being able to go and help them out and make their situation a little better, I enjoy that part. If it’s a fire, you can save at least some of their property, at least save their family pictures. DO YOU DO ANYTHING SPECIAL WHEN YOU HAVE TO WORK ON THE HOLIDAYS? On Thanksgiving, we’ll typically do the traditional Thanksgiving meals. We might have a fried turkey. Sometimes we’ll invite our families up. Sometimes, it’s just us as a crew. It just depends what everybody’s family has going on. At the station also, that’s like a family, so we’re still spending the holiday with people that we care about. HOW DO YOU ACCOMMODATE YOUR LOVED ONES WHEN YOU HAVE TO WORK ON A HOLIDAY? On Christmas day, my son will get up early and open up gifts. And then I’ll drop him off at my mom’s house, or his dad will come pick him up. There have also been times when I’ll bring maybe three gifts to the station, and I’ll have somebody bring him up to the station, and he’ll open those gifts, and then we’ll have dinner there. WHAT ARE SOME MEMORABLE ENCOUNTERS YOU’VE HAD OUT IN THE COMMUNITY WHILE WORKING DURING THE HOLIDAYS? People will bring us a lot of food at the station. The community really shows a lot of love during the holidays. They’ll bring cakes, cookies. It’s a good feeling knowing that the community accepts us and loves us and appreciates us. WHAT DO YOU FIND REWARDING ABOUT WORKING DURING THE HOLIDAYS? Just being able to help someone else. If you go perform CPR on someone and save the person, well that
YAKIMA FOX
person gets to spend another holiday with their family. People are really grateful.

(NOT) HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS
(CON TI N UED)
WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT BEING IN THIS LINE OF WORK? Knowing that there are a lot of people out here who really appreciate the work that we do. And you meet those people, and they come up and tell you, “Thank you.” That’s probably the biggest factor in helping to keep you engaged and keep you focused. DO YOU DO ANYTHING SPECIAL WHEN YOU HAVE TO WORK ON THE HOLIDAYS? In general, for the most part, it’s hard to plan anything. But you have people in the community, churches. There’s a church in Greensboro, Immanuel Baptist, that always feeds first responders during the holidays, and that’s just awesome. When I’ve had to work on Thanksgiving over the years, I always made sure to go over there and show them just how much I appreciated them looking after us during the holidays.

DR. ROB LOCKWOOD EMERGENCY ROOM PHYSICIAN, MOSES C O N E H O S P I TA L WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT THIS LINE OF WORK? The fact that every situation is unique, and the sense of fulfillment you get with each patient when you can do something and make a difference right there, right at that moment. DO YOU DO ANYTHING SPECIAL WHEN YOU HAVE TO WORK ON THE HOLIDAYS? Well, it’s impossible to get all the crew together for even 15 minutes. One thing, Cone is very supportive and will do a holiday meal. We can’t get away from the ER, so they’ll bring it to us. And typically each department will have a potluck area where you can go if you can find 5 or 10 minutes. HOW DO YOU ACCOMMODATE YOUR LOVED ONES WHEN YOU HAVE TO WORK ON A HOLIDAY? My colleagues in the emergency medicine group are very close and understand the challenges of working holidays, and so we’ll rotate holidays. My wife and I have twin 10-yearold daughters, so we try to celebrate the day before or the day after. You couldn’t be in this line of work if you didn’t have an understanding family. We’re in it together. WHAT KIND OF EXPERIENCES HAVE YOU HAD WHILE WORKING DURING THE HOLIDAYS? Two things stand out. One is that the patients who come in sick on a holiday are very sick. The second is that they are very appreciative of what we do for them. You get a stronger sense of that. Often they say, “Thank you for being here on a holiday,” which is cool. WHAT DO YOU FIND REWARDING ABOUT WORKING DURING THE HOLIDAYS? Again, when people come in on a holiday, they are very sick, and we are the only place they can go to for care. And then I get to work with people who also aren’t with their families, so it’s a shared sense of purpose, which is a cool thing.

SEASONAL SIDE POMEGRANATE, PARMESAN AND LEMON VINAIGRETTE GIVE TRADITIONAL BRUSSELS SPROUTS SIDE DISH A LIFT
ARTICLE NIKKI MILLER-KA
TRADITIONAL THANKSGIVING DINNERS HAVE GIVEN WAY TO
INFORMAL GATHERINGS CALLED FRIENDSGIVINGS WHERE POTLUCKS AND BYOB TAKE PLACE DURING THE MONTH OF NOVEMBER FOR EXTENDED FAMILY, FRIENDS AND THOSE SEEKING REFUGE DURING THE HOLIDAY SEASON. This salad is the perfect side dish to accommodate any and all who are welcomed to the table. Serve with quinoa or another whole grain, and it becomes a main dish. Substitutions are always welcome here. Finely chopped kale, a chiffonade of mustard or collard greens or a head of ubiquitous romaine lettuce would also do the trick. This salad represents the clean or low-calorie eating that seems to fall to the wayside on the fat-ribbon-ridged meats, unctuous gravies and butter-laden side dishes. Pairs well with an indispensable glass of wine to settle your nerves after finding out the children did something to make the game console downstairs stop working. It’s all fun and games.

THANKSGIVING FOR FIDO
NUTRITIONAL INFORMATION Pets are other friends we welcome to our celebrations. Dr. Janine Oliver, owner of Benessere Animal Hospital, 1052 Grecade St., and a proponent of fresh-made, Bold face whole-food diets for pets, offers this fun holiday recipe for canine companions: Dogs love whatever you like eating. They

can eat most things that humans can, with the exception of grapes, raisins, onions, chocolate, coffee, processed sugar and artificial sweeteners, so it’s not surprising that they want to share our Thanksgiving dinners. Here is a healthy take on turkey, cranberries, stuffing and sweet potatoes too. This is a moderate-carbohydrate low-fat recipe suitable for healthy adult dogs. INGREDIENTS FOR 9 1-CUP SERVINGS: ++ 3 pounds skinless turkey pieces (light and
dark meat)
++ 1/2 cup oatmeal, cooked ++ 1/2 cup barley, cooked ++ 1 pound sweet potatoes, cubed ++ 2 tablespoons cranberry sauce (Best if you
make your own cooking down crushed
fresh cranberries with 1 teaspoon maple
syrup in a double boiler, but if you are not
up for making it, the canned cranberry
sauce is acceptable.)
++ 4 tablespoons turkey gravy (optional;
to reduce the fat content, omit the gravy or
substitute olive oil.)
DIRECTIONS 1. Use turkey leftovers or roast the turkey. Remove all the bones and dice the meat into large pieces. 2. If using fresh sweet potatoes, roast them, let cool, then peel and dice. 3. Meanwhile, cook the oatmeal and the barley according to their package instructions. 4. Mix together the turkey meat, oatmeal, barley, sweet potatoes and cranberry sauce. If using gravy or oil, add it and mix thoroughly. (If your dog is at all prone to pancreatitis or other fatrelated upsets, omit the gravy.)

Are Your Hormones “Up” to Task? Intimacy issues affect men too. BY DR. SHAWN DALTON-BETHEA
DON’ T LIVE IN DENIAL MEN! This is a male problem too. Testosterone starts dropping 1% per year after age 30. For women, hormonal imbalance occurs typically after age 35 and in 80% by age 50. Contributing factors to hormonal imbalance include: stress, poor food choices, inadequate sleep, synthetic hormones use, toxins we absorb from daily sources, chronic fatigue syndrome, thyroid dysfunction, autoimmune disease, lack of proper exercise, sedentary lifestyle, (peri)menopause, andropause (male menopause), and genetics. And it’s not just about sexual wellness. Balanced hormones protect our bones, brain, breast, reproductive organs, and heart, plus decreases risk of disease while allowing optimal function while aging.
The first step to regaining balance is evaluating your hormone levels and the function of your thyroid and adrenal glands. Hormone levels can be optimized through hormone replacement therapy (HRT) using tiny natural bio-identical (aka grains) pellets placed just under the skin in the fat (adipose tissue). These pellets are not synthetic, and have been safely and successfully used since 1939. They release hormones that circulate through our bodies over a 3-9 month time frame, markedly changing quality of life. Hormone pellet implantation is a painless, in-office procedure. You can return to most lines of work the same day the treatment is performed. Those involved in very physical work or activities may need temporary restrictions.
I was told that nothing else could be done to give me my sex drive back. My husband is grateful that an answer indeed was found! Saundra got her groove back!
When our hormones levels are sub-optimal, we can experience: weight gain (especially mid-section), vaginal dryness, no sex drive,
