Of course, there’s Father’s Day on June 16, but there are so many more reasons why it’s great to be a guy this month. Called The Store, the Paisleys paired up with his alma mater, Belmont University, to fund and manage the project. The nonprofit facility is being built at 2005 12th Ave. S, next to Belmont Ministry Center, and is scheduled to be completed before year's end. DAVID KARNS IS A PRECISE ARTIST WITH COUNTRY/ROCK/MOTOWN/GOSPEL CLARITY AND FULLNESS. Oh, and he's an airbrush artist, songwriter and music instructor, too. The Missourian-turned-Nashvillian discovered his absolute love of the electric bass guitar at age 15 when he received his first four-string to assist his father’s gospel quartet. He says a relocation to the Northeast coast landed him mentorships with two important bass instructors: Dave LaRue and Lynne Davis. He then toured with Stryper frontman Michael Sweet. His adventures continued with Warner-Chappell staffer and Latin writer Javier Mendoza through the Hobo Cane project and multi-chart topping Anthony Smith. David recently served as music director, bassist and backing vocalist with Top 10 country artist Craig Campbell. David's also involved with The Fluxu8ers, who blend progressive classic rock with Dixie Dregs stylings. Currently, David's performing with EMI recording artist Brandon Lay. David teaches electric bass and music theory lessons from a personal studio in his Spring Hill residence, where he also works as an airbrush artist. DavidKarns.com

Throughout Chad's illness, relatives say he not only fought his own disease, but he also became an advocate for the greater fight against leukemia by raising money for numerous leukemia charities and by challenging his family and friends to join the fight against leukemia. Over time, Team Chad representatives navigated three major fundraisers each year: Wine Tasting & Silent Auction, Barbecue Fundraiser and the Annual Tailgate. This year's Sip & Support was held May 17 at the Richland Country Club. Team Chad board members and donors support the following three health-based entities: Hematology Helping Hands Fund, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and TriStar Sarah Cannon Cancer Center. In 2016, Team Chad funded $70,600 toward the renovation and opening of the Robert Hardy Cancer Clinic at Nashville General Hospital. As senior pastor of Watson Grove Baptist Church, 1415 Horton Ave., Rev. John Faison Sr. lives in the grip of God’s grace. "Staying grounded is about prioritizing the things that really matter. For me, that’s God, family and community," he says. "Keeping those in order enables me to stay rooted. Recharging for me is about rest and spending time doing what I love with those I love. Family time is a recharger for me." How to score more of that family time can become challenging in busy lives, which is why John reminds "what you don’t plan won’t happen." He suggests that if time with family and friends is important, put it on the calendar and in budgets. "If you showed me these two documents alone, with no other information, I could tell you what your priorities are. Priorities will always be given time and resources," he adds. John's favorite book is Celebration of Discipline by Richard J. Foster. He likes it so much, he rereads it every January. "It helps set the tone for my year," he says. The pastor is engaged with community action groups, such as NAACP, The Equity Alliance, Historically Black Colleges and Universities, and The Grove CDC. His favorite childhood cartoon character was Bugs Bunny. Related to what he wishes women better understood about men: "Generally speaking, men are fixers by nature. When you come to us with a problem, we go into our 'tool shed' and provide a solution," he says. "But many times when you bring men an issue, you don’t want a solution; you simply want to be heard and responded to with empathy. If that is the case, communicate this to the man you are talking to. He will be empowered to put his 'tool kit' away and become a listener. And you can have the joy of being heard without the annoyance of someone trying to fix it for you." TheGroveNash.org

"Make plans, and put it on your calendar. I always try to make lunch plans with a friend or an activity with my family in advance and block off the time. The more I plan and schedule personal time in advance, the more time I end up spending with the most important people in my life," he says. At press time, Sam was all about Game of Thrones. "Isn’t everyone? It’s hard to think about anything else right now!" he says. Sam says he's proud of Zeitlin's Charitable Fund, which allows the company's agents and corporate staffers to give back to the community they serve day-to-day. "Our current [Fund] partners are Second Harvest Food Bank, Our Kids and Bridges Domestic Violence Center. Whether working at our annual food pantry for Second Harvest, or just this weekend my family was helping cook dinner for Room at the Inn, there are so many opportunities where even a small effort makes a big impact," he says. Sam relished Spiderman as a child. "I ran straight to the TV to watch that cartoon every day when I got home from school."
