SOUL? Yogasoul Nashville studio instructors might say it's one of the best, natural mind-body steps to take.
Since Yogasoul studio opened in June 2018, owner/instructor Cindy
Lunsford has been ramping up. No matter what skill level anyone is, she encourages all to practice together to build strength, flexibility, focus and community.
Cindy is the previous owner of four hot yoga studios in New York. She is a certified Bikram, yin yoga and level II/III Barkan Vinyasa teacher. She also completed Ana Forrest's Advanced Yoga training and Baptiste's Art of Assisting and Advanced Art of Assisting trainings. Additionally, she's completed 500 hours with both Jimmy Barkan and Rolf Gates. She currently leads 200-hour yoga alliance certified vinyasa teacher trainings and Hot 26 teacher trainings. She says she's also proud to be an Africa Yoga Ambassador. After Cindy dabbled in yoga starting in 2003–2004, she moved to upstate New York where there wasn't a hot yoga studio. "My practice was intermittent at best, and I missed having it as a supplement to running. I was a practicing attorney in New York for about three years but quickly realized it was not the lifestyle I wanted long-term," she explains. She says it made sense to her to stop practicing law and attend yoga teacher training instead. One year after completing her first training in 2008, she opened her first studio, Hot Yoga Saratoga. Then she opened two more studios and took over a fourth one from a previous owner. "For six years, I ran studios in New York and led teacher trainings. In the process, though, I lost my connection to teaching because I was doing more managing. To get back to my love of teaching, to escape the cold of upstate New York and to be closer to my hometown of Louisville, Ky., we decided to sell the studios and move to Nashville," she says. When her primary studio of employment closed its doors in the Music City, she decided it was time to give the studio business another try. Cindy asserts that Yogasoul’s mission is to provide a supportive and community-driven space for students to connect with others; to celebrate, elevate and empower their souls; and to become the best versions of themselves. "In particular, I’m passionate about bringing visiting instructors and trainings to the space to help grow the burgeoning yoga scene

FOR EARTH DAY, IT'S ESPECIALLY NICE TO THINK OF NEW WAYS TO GIVE MATERIALS NEW LIVES. One local group focuses on this concept throughout the year. Turnip Green Creative Reuse founding board members say the organization was based out of passion and research started in 2010 after visiting other creative reuse centers across the country. They and the group's volunteers now provide four areas of service: a retail donate-what-you-wish ($) store, education/outreach, artist support and a green gallery. This nonprofit is designed to divert usable material from landfills for creative endeavors through innovative programming, retail and community education. The group provides a welcoming and neutral place for artists, educators and any creative person to connect and create artwork while repurposing materials that are discarded every day. TGCR shares space with Platetone Printmaking and Book Arts co-op. TGCR's board and program committee members are diverse, including environmentalists, nonprofit executives, several artists and community members. They also enjoy working with children throughout the community, showcasing ways to create from what they see going in the trash.
