“They are more similar than you might think at first glance,” she assures. Demand for cottage homes is growing in the Nashville area because the style appeals to busy homeowners who may not want house space they won’t routinely use and who may desire to invest their time into other lifestyle choices. So, how does one choose between an older home and a newer home, when both are charming cottages? Some would say to heavily consider homes rooted in history and tradition but delicately and sympathetically restored for comfortable living today. Others would say newer cottages are elegant, efficient and enticing. In this particular case of two great examples, Jodie says both homes are built within walking distance of friendly neighborhoods with mature trees and nice wide, flat yards. She says both backyards of these two locations are fenced. One of the yards was the former alligator exhibit for the original Nashville Zoo. The other was once the site of a zoo of dogs and one cat. Both homes have solid wood floors, pure white paint on the walls and 9-foot ceilings. Because both couples moved to their new homes prior to putting their cottage homes on the market, no furniture or decorations remain. Both homes have newer HVAC systems and roofs.

Prices of the two featured homes vary. Jodie says older houses have been selling at lower prices than newer homes. “While some of the older homes are functionally obsolete, many are not. The home on 22nd Avenue is such a home that offers many advantages.” CONTINUED >
