Most people report that between 20 milligrams and 60 milligrams of CBD per day are effective, he says, while anxiety or chronic pain consumers usually would need more. “CBD has roughly a nine-hour half-life in the body, so the initial recommendation is to take it only twice per day,” Joshua says. In the spring of 2017, a study was published in the New England Journal of Medicine that found CBD reduced the number of convulsive seizures in children with Dravet syndrome, a severe and often fatal form of epilepsy. Furthermore, the Epilepsy Foundation states that “some people living with uncontrolled seizures have reported beneficial effects and reduced seizure activity when using medical cannabis, especially strains rich in CBD, or CBD.” LabCanna offers products for humans and pets in the forms of capsules, supplements, pain creams, salves, foods, tinctures, gummies and skin care products. Joshua says the predominant inquiries they receive are about inflammation, children with epilepsy, Crohn’s disease and multiple scoliosis. This definitely was the case for the newly constructed house at 4613 Villa Green Drive in Green Hills. Ryan Miller, principal of Nashville-based custom contracting and design firm Millworks, teams with his interior designer wife, Jami, to deliver custom-built residences that are innovatively inviting from the get-go. The Millers joined expertise with Lacey Newman and Jonathan Heard with PARKS Realty to offer the stunning Seven Hills home showcased here. The house sits on an expansive 1-acre lot on a quiet street. But the calmness of the property is balanced by the vivacious joy of the house’s striking black-and-white accents, warm wooden wrappings, vaulted entry foyer, high-end lighting and large covered porch overlooking a tree-filled backyard. Jami, who decorated the house, says she likes to produce clean, modern rooms with “a rustic, homey vibe.” She and her husband collaborate on creating homes, with Ryan envisioning the structures and drawing all the plans from scratch. “I like to think of a future home as giving the residents a place to build their own story,” says Ryan, who serves as the architect, project manager and new construction builder. Jami says she and Ryan spend a great deal of time brainstorming and planning how people will function day-to-day in a home. In the case of 4613 Villa Green Drive, Jami says they knew they just had to “let the backyard in,” so they designed all the features

Decorating a home that’s on the market in ways that help strengthen the house’s innate personality often helps potential sellers predict whether they can see themselves existing in that residence. Jami considers the staging of this Villa Green Drive residence as “cozy,” and she used many textures to keep that flow throughout the house. She says one of her favorite rooms is the eat-in kitchen where she feels it’s a relaxed but purposeful environment. Ryan gave the house stucco areas and exposed wooden beams to complement a sense of ease with sophistication. Jami says a specific touch of baskets and bowls rounds out a more modern look while also providing places to store items, creating a room that’s comfortable and realistically lived in. “Decluttering is the biggest key when staging houses, along with neutralizing the color palettes,” says Jami, the owner of Blackbook, a residential staging and design firm in Nashville that specializes in higherend furnishings. “[Having Lakelyn] was a complete 180, and now every time I have a kid it switches in a different direction—in a good direction,” he continues. “My mindset 100 percent switched when we had Lakelyn. And when we had Trice. And then a third time when we had Violet—in good directions. It’s made me more well-rounded. Balance is hard; to be the best at anything, you can’t really be balanced. Now I’m trying to be the best father and husband I can be. It’s a good challenge; it’s fun.” Rich found some of that seemingly unattainable balance through his transition to team competitions, which have allowed him more of an opportunity to think about training while he’s training and to not think about training while he isn’t. “I get to be present in my life,” he says. “[In individual], even when I was doing other things, I was still thinking about what I needed to do, what I was missing out on. “Competing as an individual for me, I got burnt out,” he continues. “It’s been fun the last couple of years to be able to compete with a team. You push harder when you know somebody else is counting on you, and seeing how hard they push and what they sacrifice makes you want to do the same for them.” Outside of the gym, Rich now spends much of his time using his experience as a CrossFit champion and exercise science degree from Tennessee Tech creating online programming for his gym, CrossFit Mayhem, which is located on Rich Froning Way.
“Winning championships is great, but it’s like the next year somebody else wins...I enjoyed that, but I don’t want that to be what defines me. I want to be known as a good husband, a good father.” Among them are Mayhem Compete, a program for those beginning to take competition seriously or who want to take their fitness to the next level; Mayhem Masters, a program for competitive athletes ages 35-70; What’s Rich Doing, a program offering exactly what Rich is doing every day; Mayhem 60, a complete 60-minute workout for anyone with a garage gym; and M30, a short 30-minute workout designed for someone who travels or wants to work out at home with no access to equipment. Looking toward the future, Rich is in pursuit of moving forward. “Winning championships is great, but it’s like the next year somebody else wins so it’s always different,” Rich says. “I enjoyed that, but I don’t want that to be what defines me. I want to be known as a good husband, a good father. DID YOU KNOW THAT KENTUCKY DOWNS IS HOME TO AMERICA’S ONLY EUROPEAN-STYLE AND MOST UNIQUE HORSE TRACK? At 1.3125 miles in length, Kentucky Downs showcases one of the longest courses in the nation, with all of the races conducted on grass. While other U.S. racetracks are oval and flat, Kentucky Downs was fashioned in a kidney-bean shape when its founders laid out the course in an undulating field in 1990 with the intention of staging world-class steeplechase racing. The course’s jumps and hurdles since were removed. But the track’s gentle mounds and subtle elevation changes, massive sweeping turn into a distinctive stretch featuring a dogleg bend and quarter-mile dash to the finish remain to make racing at Kentucky Downs an exhilarating experience for both those competing and those cheering, says Ted Nicholson, Kentucky Downs’ senior vice president and general manager. Unlike most racetracks, Kentucky Downs doesn’t have typical grandstand seating; instead, it features stadium seats and picnic tables, or guests can bring their own lawn chairs or picnic blankets. Reserved seating is offered, starting at $25 each.
