LIFESTYLE LETTER

Here's to Your Health and Happiness! One thing I’ve learned this past year is that taking care of your health rarely happens in one big moment. It’s all the small decisions, the right people, and the businesses that genuinely care about helping you feel your best. This issue celebrates the wellness community right here in Greeley—the same one that has made a meaningful difference in my own family’s life. My husband, Craig, recently had a stem cell procedure with Elite Regenerative Stem Cell Specialists, and the improvement he’s experienced has been something we honestly didn’t expect. When other treatments didn’t bring relief, this one finally moved the needle in the right direction. It has given him hope—and results. Our family also relies on Balance Health for direct primary care, and I don’t say this lightly: it has changed everything for us. Having providers who know us, who respond directly, and who make healthcare feel human again has made such an impact on how we navigate everyday health needs—especially with kids. Craig and I have been getting monthly, personalized IVs at Factor IV Wellness, tailored through bloodwork to exactly what our bodies need. It has profoundly lowered inflammation, and helped our energy and overall wellness, in a way that feels supportive and intentional. My son has benefited from athletic training at SOAR, pushing himself and gaining confidence. And on a much calmer note, Craig and I have been absolute beginners in yoga classes at Balanced Movement. Even in our awkwardness (and there is plenty!), we’ve been met with kindness, inclusivity, and zero judgment. It’s a reminder that wellness doesn’t have to be intimidating. Outside my own family, one of my best friends has been doing personal training at Upward Fitness for the last year and tells me she feels better than ever at age 50. Watching her strength and confidence grow has been inspiring—and such a testament to the power of the right coach and community. What all of these experiences have in common is simple: Greeley’s health and wellness professionals care deeply about the people they serve. As the publisher, I love supporting these local businesses because I’ve seen first hand how they help real families—mine included—live healthier, happier lives. I hope this issue encourages you to explore what wellness could look like for you, right here in our amazing community. With gratitude, TA R A R A S M U S O N , P U B L I S H E R @GREELEYLIFESTYLE

NAD+The Fountain of Youth NAD+ has become a major focus in wellness and longevity. Often called the modern “fountain of youth,” this tiny coenzyme powers energy production, supports DNA repair, and helps cells handle daily stress. But NAD+ levels naturally decline with age, which may explain why people feel less energetic, slower, and less resilient over time. Take charge of your longevity by learning how to support healthy NAD+ levels and make choices that help your cells stay energized and resilient.

Owner, Ryan Mclvor

“THE BEST TIME TO START WORKING ON YOUR HEALTH IS ALWAYS NOW.”

When Upward Fitness Studio opened its doors just over a year ago, it did so with a purpose that went far beyond fitness. Founded by Ryan and Amber McIvor, the studio was built on a simple mission: to create a space where every person—no matter their background or fitness level— feels supported, empowered, and proud of their progress. For the McIvors, the idea behind Upward Fitness Studio grew from a desire to simplify and humanize fitness. In a world saturated with trends, conflicting advice, and quick fixes, they wanted to bring it back to what truly works—science-backed strength training guided by expert coaches who care. “People can get overwhelmed by how much information is out there,” they share. “We wanted to make things simple and practical while still being effective. Our goal is to help people move better, feel better, and find consistency—all while having fun.” That clarity has resonated with the Greeley community. From firsttime lifters to longtime athletes, members describe Upward Fitness Studio as a space that feels both motivating and approachable. Every training session is completely individualized—no cookie-cutter workouts, no one-size-fits-all approach, no guesswork. Clients work with a dedicated trainer who designs each workout around their specific goals, ability level, and pace. CONTINUED > JANUARY 2 0 2 6 | C I TYL I FE STYL E . C O M / G R E E L E Y

“WE WANTED OUR CULTURE TO FOSTER GROWTH, ENCOURAGEMENT, AND CELEBRATION—WHETHER IT’S A BIG MILESTONE OR A SMALL WIN. EVERY CLIENT IS ON AN UPWARD JOURNEY, AND WE’RE HERE TO SUPPORT THEM EVERY STEP OF THE WAY.” Ryan and Amber are quick to share credit for that success. “Our personal trainers are the heart of Upward Fitness Studio,” they say. “They’re knowledgeable, encouraging, and deeply invested in helping each person see what they’re capable of.” Together, the team brings experience, energy, and genuine enthusiasm to every session—creating an environment where progress feels possible for everyone. The studio’s name, Upward, captures its philosophy perfectly. It’s not about perfection—it’s about progress. “The name was chosen very intentionally,” the McIvors explain. “We wanted our culture to foster growth, encouragement, and celebration—whether it’s a big milestone or a small win. Every client is on an upward journey, and we’re here to support them every step of the way.” Encouragement defines the Upward Fitness Studio community. Trainers and clients focus on progress, not perfection—celebrating every effort, no matter how small. That welcoming spirit carries into everything the McIvors teach. As a new year begins, they remind clients that fitness isn’t a resolution but a commitment to steady growth. “The best time to start working on your health is always now,” they say. “Start small, stay consistent, and give it time.” One client, Ed, embodies that mindset. When he first came to Upward Fitness Studio, he was nearly 80 pounds overweight, exhausted, and ready for a change. Over the past year, with two

26

LOCA L’S CH OICE | FI TNESS

strength-training sessions each week and a simple, sustainable approach to nutrition, he’s lost the weight, built strength, and rediscovered confidence. “Ed is thriving,” they say. “He trusted the basics, stayed consistent, and showed up—even on the hard days. We couldn’t be prouder of him.” Stories like Ed’s remind the McIvors and their trainers why they do what they do. For them, fitness isn’t about chasing trends or comparing results—it’s about helping people discover what works for their life and goals. “Fitness isn’t one-size-fitsall,” they explain. “We all have different reasons for wanting to be healthier. What matters most is finding what’s realistic and sustainable for you.” Beyond physical results, Upward Fitness Studio is about connection. The McIvors believe wellness and community go hand in hand—that surrounding yourself with the right people can make even the toughest climb feel easier. “Getting healthier can feel like climbing a mountain at times,” they say, “but when you have the right people beside you, that ‘upward’ climb feels a whole lot easier.” When clients leave the studio, they don’t just walk out stronger—they leave proud. Each session builds confidence, momentum, and a sense of possibility. That’s what Upward Fitness Studio is all about: small wins that lead to lasting change, guided by a team of trainers dedicated to lifting others higher.

HOW TO START YOUR FITNESS ROUTINE THIS YEAR Tips from Ryan McIvor, Owner, Upward Fitness Studio The new year brings a renewed sense of possibility. But between busy schedules, old habits, and the pressure to “do everything perfectly,” getting started with a fitness routine can feel overwhelming. As the owner of Upward Fitness Studio, Ryan McIvor has watched hundreds of people take that first step—many successfully, and many after a few false starts. The truth? People don’t need perfection, the “right” gear, or even a dramatic plan. They just need a realistic starting point and a little guidance. HERE ARE HIS TOP TIPS FOR GETTING STARTED IN A WAY THAT’S SIMPLE, SUSTAINABLE, AND ACTUALLY STICKS: 1. Start With Something You Will Actually Do Motivation runs high in January, but consistency always wins over intensity. Ryan encourages people to choose movements and workouts they enjoy—walking, strength training, group classes, or a mix. If someone dreads it, they won’t stick with it. The goal is 2–3 short workouts a week that feel genuinely enjoyable. 2. Strength Training Is Your Best Long-Term Investment No matter a person’s age, strength training remains the cornerstone of a healthier body. It improves metabolism, protects joints, supports bone health, and builds strength for everyday life—traveling, keeping up with kids, or simply moving painfree. Ryan recommends starting light, learning proper form, and progressing gradually. 3. Don’t “All-or-Nothing” Yourself Into Quitting People don’t need to be perfect, go to the gym every day, or eliminate every food they enjoy. Ryan emphasizes small goals, confidence-building habits, and room for grace. Progress beats perfection—every time. 4. Create Accountability That Works for You Some individuals thrive in group classes, others need a trainer, and some simply need a friend who will walk with them twice a week. Accountability keeps people moving when motivation dips (and it will). Finding support that matches a person’s personality and lifestyle makes all the difference.

Ryan & Amber Mclvor

5. Track Something—But Not Everything Tracking doesn’t require five apps or three spreadsheets. Ryan suggests choosing one or two meaningful indicators: how many workouts were completed that week, how clothing fits, or energy levels throughout the day. Small data points show progress long before the scale does. 6. Remember: Fitness Is Meant to Improve Your Life, Not Take Over Your Life A routine should feel like it fits into someone’s world—not like another chore. The goal of fitness is more strength, more energy, more confidence, and more freedom to enjoy the things they love. Ryan encourages building a routine that supports life, not one that consumes it. If You Need a Starting Point, Upward Fitness Studio Can Help The Upward Fitness Studio team specializes in helping beginners—and people returning to fitness—build strength, rebuild confidence, and feel good in their bodies again. Whether someone is new to the gym or simply needs a fresh start, the studio’s trainers are ready to guide them every step of the way. JANUARY 2 0 2 6 | C I TYL I FE STYL E . C O M / G R E E L E Y

BALANCE “WE WANT PEOPLE TO FEEL CARED FOR, NOT RUSHED. WHEN THEY LEAVE, I HOPE THEY FEEL HOPEFUL AGAIN — THAT THEY HAVE PARTNERS WHO BELIEVE IN THEM AND TOOLS THAT ACTUALLY WORK.”

A LIFE BUILT ON PURPOSE For Dr. Frank Morgan, medicine has never been about prestige or pace. It began with something far simpler—a sense of duty, shaped by small-town life and hard work. Dr. Morgan grew up in a farming and ranching community in New Mexico, where every sunrise meant work to be done and every challenge demanded resilience. He paid his way through college raising hogs, planning at one point to become a veterinarian. But an experience with his local volunteer fire department changed his

course. As an EMT, he discovered that helping people in moments of real need gave him a sense of purpose he couldn’t ignore. With the encouragement of a few local veterinarians, he chose medicine—not as a career, but as a calling. After attending medical school at the University of New Mexico and completing his Family Medicine residency in Greeley, Dr. Morgan began his practice in rural New Mexico. He delivered babies, cared for hospitalized patients, managed chronic illness— full-spectrum family medicine in its truest sense. Yet even amid the satisfaction of serving others, a tension began to build. “I loved every branch of medicine,” he recalls, “but I started to realize that the system itself was changing.” In larger healthcare networks, success was measured by volume rather than by connection. The emphasis had shifted from listening to moving on to the next patient. It was a world that rewarded efficiency over empathy and it didn’t align with the values he’d carried from those early mornings on the ranch. That disconnect eventually brought him back to Greeley, where he created a place where modern medicine and personal connection coexist—Balance Health, a practice built not around billing codes or quotas, but around people. RECLAIMING THE MEANING OF CARE Walk into Balance Health today, and it feels different from a typical medical office. There’s warmth in the way staff greet patients, laughter echoing from the gym area, and time carved out for conversations that would be rushed elsewhere. That design is intentional.

Dr. Morgan did create a place where modern medicine and personal connection coexist, where healthcare is collaborative and rooted in education. “Balance Health exists because I wanted patients to experience care that honors both science and humanity,” he says. His philosophy of “balance” is simple yet profound: health stands on three legs—nutrition, movement, and mental well-being. If one leg weakens, the whole system wobbles. Too often, conventional medicine focuses on patching the wobble rather than strengthening the legs themselves. He still believes in evidence-based Western medicine, but Balance Health represents a broader approach—one that encourages patients to take ownership of their health rather than surrendering it to prescriptions. “Sometimes medication is absolutely necessary,” he explains, “but our greater goal is to help people need fewer of them.” That philosophy comes to life in the stories of his patients. Early in the clinic’s history, Dr. Morgan remembers treating individuals whose diabetes and hypertension normalized through lifestyle change alone. “Watching someone reverse what they’d been told was a ‘lifelong disease’...that’s powerful,” he says. He recalls a conversation with a pharmaceutical representative who promoted a diabetes drug capable of lowering A1C by one point. The price? Nearly five hundred dollars a month. Dr. Morgan couldn’t help but think of his own patients who had reduced their A1Cs from double digits to near-normal levels simply by changing diet and exercise. “That moment solidified what I already knew,” he says. “Lifestyle is the most powerful medicine we have.” CONTINUED > JANUARY 2 0 2 6 | C I TYL I FE STYL E . Inside Balance Health, that belief is woven into every patient experience. The inclusion of an on-site gym isn’t just for convenience; it’s symbolic, a reminder that true healing often happens beyond the exam room. Each care plan begins with curiosity: What’s working? What isn’t? How do we strengthen all three legs of that stool—body, mind, and movement—so health feels steady again? For Dr. Morgan, reclaiming the meaning of care means slowing down enough to listen and giving people the tools to participate in their own recovery. It’s medicine that looks forward, not backward. LIVING THE BALANCE The story of Balance Health mirrors the man behind it— steady, humble, and driven by purpose. Like many of his patients, Dr. Morgan has navigated his own wellness challenges. In his mid-thirties, years of long hours and stress caught up with him. He was overweight, overtired, and knew firsthand how easily imbalance can take hold. “That experience gave me deep empathy,” he says. “Change isn’t easy, but it’s possible. And when patients know I’ve walked that same road, it builds trust.” These days, he practices what he teaches. His week begins early, with workouts three or four times a week and simple, whole-food meals shared with family. He prioritizes rest and reflection, recognizing that balance isn’t the absence of stress but the ability to reset when life tilts off-center. “Balance,” he says, “isn’t about perfection, it’s about trajectory.” That perspective shapes everything within the clinic’s walls. Patients often arrive to find not just medical expertise but genuine encouragement—a team that believes in their ability to get better. “We want people to feel cared for, not rushed,” Dr. Morgan says. “When they leave, I hope they feel hopeful again—that they have partners who believe in them and tools that actually work.” He knows that for many, taking that first step toward change is the hardest part. The world is noisy with wellness advice—diets, supplements, and trends that promise fast results. His message cuts through the chaos with clarity: move your body, eat real food, sleep well, manage stress, and surround yourself with people who encourage you. “Don’t chase perfection,” he says. “Focus on direction.” At its core, Balance Health is an extension of Dr. Morgan himself—steady, compassionate, and rooted in the belief that health is both physical and deeply personal. FROM PASSION TO PRACTICE PHOTOGRAPHY BY GREY CAT PHOTOGRAPHY

Before founding her wellness clinic, Vanessa Jaime spent five demanding years in corporate hospitals, including the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. Those years opened her eyes to a truth she couldn’t ignore—much of modern medicine is reactive rather than restorative.

Vanessa Jaimes, Founder & Owner

She witnessed patients treated as numbers and symptoms managed without addressing the underlying causes. The experience revealed how disconnected healthcare had become from true healing. That realization sparked a calling—to create a space where people could be seen, heard, and cared for as whole individuals. From that vision came Factor IV Hydration, a Greeley-based clinic devoted to restoring balance from the inside out. Vanessa set out to combine science, compassion, and education in a way that empowers people to understand their own health. WELLNESS THAT STARTS WITH UNDERSTANDING At Factor IV Hydration, every wellness journey begins with a Baseline Wellness Panel, an in-depth assessment of more than fifty biomarkers that provides a comprehensive look at a person’s internal health. Instead of simply handing over lab results, Vanessa and her team sit down with each client to review and interpret every number—focusing on what’s optimal rather than merely normal. For many, it is the first time anyone has connected how they feel with what their body is actually doing. Education remains the foundation of Factor IV’s approach. By helping people understand their results and the options available, the team builds confidence that leads to lasting change. Vanessa views health as a partnership between practitioner and patient, grounded in knowledge and trust.

“When science and compassion come together, people don’t just heal— they thrive.”

BLENDING SCIENCE AND HUMANITY Vanessa’s experience in traditional medicine gave her a strong respect for science and an understanding of its limitations. She believes that functional medicine bridges that gap, pairing data-driven insight with a more personalized approach to wellness. “Functional medicine has so much science behind it,” she explains. “For instance, Vitamin C during cancer treatments—the results can be astounding. But is it recommended by most oncologists? No.” Her philosophy invites exploration rather than resistance. She often encourages clients to try evidence-supported, restorative methods that give the body what it has been missing. One of Factor IV’s most innovative offerings, Methylene Blue IV therapy, reflects that mindset. Though used in medicine since the 1800s, current research highlights its potential benefits for traumatic brain injuries, autoimmune disorders, CONTINUED >

cognitive decline, and even cancer support. Because it crosses the blood–brain barrier, the therapy can reach areas traditional treatments cannot. Vanessa’s goal is never to chase trends but to bring credible, effective solutions to the community she calls home. Her excitement is rooted in science, balanced by care. A SPACE THAT FEELS LIKE FAMILY The atmosphere at Factor IV Hydration mirrors Vanessa’s calm, compassionate nature. Warm lighting, gentle conversation, and genuine connection replace the sterile feeling of a typical clinic. At the heart of that experience is the team behind Factor IV Hydration. Vanessa is the first to say she doesn’t do this work alone—the staff is a group of individuals who match her steady, grounded energy and share her commitment to science-supported, person-centered care. Each team member brings their own strengths, but they all carry the same mindset: meet people where they are, listen without judgment, and help them feel better in a way that fits real life. Their chemistry is unmistakable, and clients feel it the moment they walk in. The team celebrates wins together, supports one another on long days, and treats every client like someone whose story genuinely matters. It’s that alignment— in purpose, in values, and in heart—that makes the clinic feel like family. Factor IV Hydration participates in local events, collaborates with small businesses, and maintains a visible presence at the Greeley Stampede each year. Vanessa and her staff love meeting new people and reconnecting with clients who have become friends over the past three years. Within the clinic, many clients refer family members and neighbors, strengthening the sense of community that defines the space. Visitors often remark that Factor IV feels more like a family than a business—an observation that captures exactly what Vanessa hoped to build.

PROGRESS, NOT PERFECTION As each new year begins, the clinic often welcomes people eager to make changes but unsure where to start. Vanessa and her team guide them through realistic, sustainable plans rather than quick fixes. After reviewing results, they identify two or three areas of focus—such as hydration, nutrition, or sleep—to build consistency before layering in additional habits. The approach keeps clients from feeling overwhelmed and encourages progress they can maintain. Sustainable wellness takes time, but the rewards are clear: improved energy, sharper focus, and deeper rest. Many clients report that once they begin feeling better, they never want to return to old habits. For Vanessa, those transformations serve as daily reminders that health is a journey measured in progress, not perfection. LOOKING AHEAD Three years after opening, Factor IV Hydration is preparing for its next chapter. Vanessa is actively planning a larger location that will allow the clinic to expand its offerings and collaborate with other health professionals under one roof—a true wellness hub designed to meet every aspect of a client’s journey. Her broader vision extends beyond business growth. She hopes to see a cultural shift in how her community views wellness—where self-care is not a luxury, but a way of life. “When science and compassion come together, people don’t just heal—they thrive,” she says. That belief continues to shape every decision at Factor IV Hydration and every connection built inside its walls. For Vanessa Jaime, health has always been more than the absence of illness. It is the presence of hope, purpose, and balance—and she has made it her mission to help others find all three.

THE Innovator, Next DOOR How Dr. E. Jeffrey Donner is Rewriting the Story of Spine & Joint Pain Relief PHOTOGRAPHY BY GREY CAT PHOTOGRAPHY AND PROVIDED

If you live with back or joint pain, you’ve probably heard every promise—steroid injections, physical therapy cycles, surgeries big and small. Millions of Americans wake up every day believing pain is simply part of their life now. But in an innovative advanced medical center in Northern Colorado, something very different is happening. Patients who have tried everything are walking out with hope again. People who were told surgery was their only option, are finding alternatives. And many who lived with daily pain for years are reclaiming the ability to work, travel, exercise, play with their kids, and feel like themselves again. They’re all traveling to Johnstown, Colorado—many from across the country—to see one man: Dr. E. Jeffrey Donner. With more than 35 years of experience and his patented regenerative procedure you won’t find anywhere else in the United States, Dr. Donner is quietly transforming what’s possible for people with spine and joint damage. His clinic, Elite Regenerative Stem Cell Specialists at the Colorado Spine Institute, has become a destination for patients who have lost hope… and for those determined to reclaim their quality of life. His personal experience with multiple orthopedic injuries, pain procedures, surgeries and finally regenerative medicine solutions has enhanced his drive to improve the science of natural healing. What makes him different isn’t just the fact that he’s performed tens of thousands of surgeries and pain procedures. It’s that he’s also one of the few surgeons who stepped back and asked a pioneering question:

leaders in the regenerative medicine which has been published in some of the highest ranked scientific journals in the world. These accomplishments have led to groundbreaking innovations and to prestigious invitations to present his research and clinical outcomes at many high level international conferences including the Vall Scientific Summit, International Society for Knee Arthroscopy and Sports Medicine, Osteoarthritis Research Society International, Orthopedic Research Society, American Spine Injury Association, North American Spine Society, Sacroiliac Medical Expert Group where he was also past president. He was also recently requested to participate on the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons regenerative medicine symposium in March 2026 and is preparing a requested manuscript for the Cells journal’s special edition: Stem Cells in Action- Unlocking the Potential of Next-Generation Therapies along with co author Johnny Huard PhD at the Steadman Philippon Research Institute (SPRI) in Vail. He is also preparing collaborative research grants with the Translational Medicine Institute at CSU Veterinary School and SPRI. This is truly an unstoppable Revolution in Evolution!

Amber Denzel

A SURGEON WITH A GLOBAL VOICE AND LOCAL ROOTS

Dr. Donner has spent more than three decades as a spine specialist in Northern Colorado, taking on complex cervical, thoracic, lumbar, and sacroiliac disorders—along with major joint injuries throughout the body. He is dual board certified in orthopedic and spine surgery by the American Boards of Orthopedic and Spine Surgery, fellowship-trained in spinal and orthopedic disorders. This dual distinction places him among an elite group of surgeons nationwide.

ELITE REGENERATIVE: WHERE INNOVATION MEETS REAL RESULTS

In 2014, Dr. Donner founded the Colorado Spine Institute in Johnstown. Soon after, he launched Elite Regenerative Stem Cell Specialists, the first stem-cell-focused regenerative clinic in the U.S. led by a dual board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic spine surgeon. Elite focuses on adult mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs)—your body’s master repair cells. These cells are harvested from a patient’s own bone marrow and carefully reintroduced into damaged joints, discs, ligaments, and soft tissues to support natural healing.

THE ONLY U.S. SURGEON USING A PATENTED STEM CELL HARVESTING TECHNIQUE

Dr. Donner is the co-inventor of U.S. Patent No. 11,655,454, a breakthrough method and apparatus designed to dramatically improve how MSCs are collected and concentrated from bone marrow.

Amber Denzel: Leading the Next Wave of Regenerative Aesthetics Under the leadership of Amber Denzel, the Med Spa is pioneering advanced treatments that blend aesthetics with biologic science. Amber has been instrumental in designing protocols that merge stem cell science with cosmetic procedures—offering patients regenerative tools that go far beyond surface-level beauty. • Stem-cell–infused microneedling for collagen regeneration • Stem-cell topical therapies paired with RF Microneedling • Advanced anti-aging procedures that use biologic signals, high frequency, and shock wave to improve skin texture, elasticity, and tone • Regenerative hair restoration for thinning or damaged hair • Post-surgical or post-injury skin recovery protocols that speed healing and reduce scarring • These treatments use the same biologic principles Dr. Donner employs in orthopedic care—encouraging the body to rebuild, repair, and regenerate.

Unlike standard bone marrow draws, this patented approach: • Targets microenvironments where stem cells are most plentiful • Maximizes the purity and viability of the cells • Removes material that could impair healing • Produces a uniquely high-quality biologic mixture for treatment Elite is the only clinic in the country using this patented technique. Dr. Donner and his research partners also developed a proprietary bone-marrow–derived biologic called BMAX™, designed to support stem cell survival and adhesion at injury sites. This innovation is the reason patients travel from all over the United States for Elite’s procedures.

CHANGING LIVES, ONE PATIENT AT A TIME

Dr. E. Jeffrey Donner

Lucanus (Luc) Koldewyn, Amber Denzel, Dr. E Jeffrey Donner, Tess Rausch

The stories are powerful. A grandmother told she needed fusion surgery regained mobility through Elite’s patented stem cell procedure. A former athlete sidelined by SI joint pain returned to training. Business owners, ranchers, teachers, and travelers have shared how they got their lives back—sometimes after being told nothing more could be done. Some patients with systemic diseases, syndromes, endometriosis, bladder cystitis, chronic fatigue, acute COVID, long COVD, autoimmune diseases, and neuropathies, have reported significant benefit from the IV treatment given as part of the protocol. Elite tracks outcomes closely, allowing them to refine and improve treatment plans. While not every patient is a candidate—and severe neurological deficits often still require surgery—the regenerative pathway offers new hope to those who once felt out of options. For access to journals, links, and an array of stem cell knowledge please visit EliteRegen.org and ColoSpine.com.

THE BEAUTY SIDE OF REGENERATION: ELITE’S STEM CELL MED SPA

What many Northern Colorado residents don’t know is that the same cutting-edge regenerative science being used to repair spines and joints is also transforming beauty and skincare. At the Elite Regenerative Med Spa, the team has brought stem cell technology into the aesthetic world in a way few clinics in the country are doing.

A DESTINATION FOR HEALING, BEAUTY, AND WHOLE-BODY REGENERATION

Dr. Donner and his team are doing more than treating pain—they’re creating a regenerative hub where medical expertise, scientific invention, and aesthetic innovation come together under one roof. From internationally recognized stem cell procedures… To life-changing spine and joint treatments… To a Med Spa using stem cells in ways the beauty world rarely sees… Elite Regenerative Stem Cell Specialists is setting a new standard for what’s possible. For patients searching for answers, for hope, or simply for the chance to feel like themselves again, this clinic in Johnstown is offering something extraordinary: A chance at real, regenerative healing—inside and out. Kevin & Kami Marr

How Gum Color Can Indicate Inflammation & Signal Health Risks, from Drs Kevin & Kami Marr

THE OVERLOOKED INDICATOR OF HEALTH

Many people today are highly concerned about the color of their teeth but think very little about the color of their gums. There is a perceived connection between white teeth and good health. However, the color of gum tissue is a much more reliable indicator of potential health concerns. Many studies in medicine have shown a strong correlation between unhealthy gums and systemic diseases like diabetes, heart disease, respiratory disease, certain types of cancer, and even dementia. What makes gums unhealthy? There are a variety of bacteria that live in the mouth. In small numbers these bacteria are not a problem. But when they are allowed an opportunity to proliferate, they cause a chronic infection in the connection between the teeth, gums, and bone. The mild form of this infection is called gingivitis. The severe form is called periodontal disease. What should healthy gums look like? Healthy gum tissue can vary in color, but there is one rule of thumb: healthy gum tissue is not red and puffy where the gums meet the teeth. Red, puffy, tender gum tissue that bleeds when brushing or flossing has inflammation. The severity and length of time this inflammation has been present in the mouth is where the correlation between the color of a person’s gums and chronic systemic disease truly lies.

50

S ELF CA R E | HEALTH + WE LLN E SS

So, the next time you are looking in the mirror thinking about the color of your teeth, take a moment to check out the color of your gums — they can reveal far more about your overall health than most people realize.

YOUR 10-SECOND GUM HEALTH CHECKLIST

• Color - Gums should range from pink to deeper coral tones — not bright red. • Texture - Healthy gums lie flat and firm against the teeth, not swollen or puffy. • Bleeding - Brushing or flossing shouldn’t draw blood. If it does, there’s inflammation. • Tenderness - Soreness when eating, brushing, or touching the gumline can indicate early infection. • Consistency Over Time - Symptoms that persist week after week often point to chronic issues that should be evaluated.

The hum of laughter greets most people before the sound of music ever does. Sunlight filters through the front windows, and for a moment, life slows down. Inside Balanced Movement Yoga Studio, movement feels less like a task and more like a homecoming. Owner Heather Berry has always believed that wellness shouldn’t look one way. Some days it’s about strength and sweat; other days, stillness and breath. That belief shapes everything—from yoga, barre, and Pilates to sound healing and spin—inviting students to move at their own pace and rediscover what

HONOR YOUR OWN PATH

balance means for them. “Our mission is to honor each person’s path,” Berry says. “That means creating space for everyone to find what feels best in their own body.” The team at Balanced Movement knows that walking into a new studio can be nerve-racking. Their goal is to make that first step feel comfortable, not intimidating. From the friendly hello at the door to the light-hearted instructors, everything encourages ease. The result is an atmosphere where connection thrives. Whether someone is joining for the first time or returning after years away, they’re met with warmth rather than pressure. That approach has created a studio that feels more like a community than a gym—one built on belonging, not performance. Berry’s definition of wellness has shifted over the years, mirroring the lives of the people she teaches. Some seasons are full of energy and movement; others require rest and restoration.

“Wellness evolves as life does,” she explains. “It’s about finding balance in each season rather than chasing one perfect formula.” Balanced Movement’s wide variety of classes reflects that evolution, meeting students where they are—whether building strength, improving mobility, or finding calm. Instructors offer modifications for every posture, making every session accessible for all ages and abilities. Progress here isn’t measured by how something looks, but by how it feels. Longtime member Karen Dyra embodies that spirit. She first came to Balanced Movement hoping to ease hip and back pain after having her son. Gentle classes soon became a turning point. “I started by going once a week,” Dyra says. “The difference was incredible. The instructors are so uplifting and knowledgeable, and they really meet you where you’re at.” Karen found more than relief—she found confidence and belonging, a story echoed throughout the studio. That sense of belonging is what keeps students coming back. Friendships form across mats; laughter fills the lobby after class. Many say it’s the first place they’ve ever felt comfortable moving their bodies without judgment. As a new year begins, Berry hopes people approach wellness with patience and kindness. “Start small and be gentle with yourself,” she says. “Choose one sustainable step and focus on consistency over intensity.” Inside its bright, welcoming space, Balanced Movement reminds people that health isn’t about keeping up—it’s about showing up. And in this studio, every person is welcome to begin wherever they are and honor the path that’s uniquely their own. CONTINUED >

Hands That Restore Balance Dr. Gena Wickes Provides Hands-On Chiropractic Care Enhancing Mobility and Comfort For Horses & Pets Dr. Gena Wickes

P E T CA R E | W EL L NES S

Long before Horse & Hound Chiropractic, LLC existed, Dr. Gena Wickes was standing inside one of life’s most disorienting chapters. Newly divorced, raising two young children, and unsure of what came next, she found herself searching for a path forward that still honored the dreams she once had for a medical career. What arrived instead was an unexpected suggestion from a friend: “Why not become a chiropractor?” It seemed simple, almost too simple—until she realized her own years of chiropractic care had quietly changed her life. Migraines she once accepted as routine had disappeared. Asthma symptoms faded. The yearly bronchitis she braced for never came. That quiet transformation sparked a deeper curiosity. She wanted to understand why it worked—and, eventually, how it might work for more than just people. Once in chiropractic school, she discovered the field of animal chiropractic, a specialty that immediately felt like home. “I knew right then it was what I was meant to do,” she says. The advanced training would have to wait— life demanded other priorities—but the desire never left.

Horse & Hound Chiropractic, LLC first took shape in Dallas, Texas, where Dr. Gena began practicing under Texas’ strict veterinary-referral model. Months later, after earning her advanced certification through the American Veterinary Chiropractic Association—considered the gold standard in the field—she became eligible to practice in states like Colorado, where her passion for hands-on healing could flourish more freely. When she arrived in Northern Colorado, she returned to what had always worked best—meeting animal patients where they felt most comfortable. A mobile practice wasn’t a strategy; it was simply what worked best for her patients. For Dr. Gena, the work is rooted in something beautifully simple: animals respond honestly. Humans often evaluate chiropractic care by whether something “popped” the way they expected. Animals offer no such expectations; their bodies speak for them. After an adjustment, the horses’ gentle chewing and the dogs’ soft licking are their way of saying they feel relief. More than once, those small gestures have made her feel like an honorary member of a family.

One patient especially stays with her. Walker, a beloved family dog, had been given less than a month to live. He couldn’t stand, and his family feared the end was near. But with each visit, something shifted. First a hint of movement, then an attempt to rise, then— weeks later—a greeting at the door. Walker went on to enjoy seven more months of running, playing, and soaking up life. On the final night before his “last best day,” his family invited Dr. Gena to say goodbye. She arrived with love and a little chocolate, holding space for a moment she considers one of the most meaningful of her career. In reflecting on her work, she puts it simply: “When your hands are all you use and you still receive great results, you realize they’re really all you need.” Today, after sixteen years of human chiropractic care and nearly five years of animal practice, her philosophy remains grounded in humility. While Colorado’s regulations limit some of the emerging

“When your hands are all you use and you still receive great results, you realize they’re really all you need.” technologies available in other states, she doesn’t see that as a barrier. Instead, it keeps the work rooted in connection: touch, trust, and the profound bond shared between animals and the people who love them. As Horse & Hound Chiropractic, LLC grows across Northern Colorado, Dr. Gena hopes to continue offering exactly what brought her here in the first place—gentle, grounded care that brings comfort, longevity, and ease to horses, dogs, and cats alike. For local pet and livestock owners seeking a thoughtful, mobile approach to chiropractic wellness, connecting with Horse & Hound Chiropractic, LLC is as simple as reaching out. A calmer, more comfortable companion often begins right at home.

The

Next Level At SOAR (Scientifically Oriented Athletic Program), training isn’t just about performance— it’s about progress, mindset, and the commitment to becoming one percent better every day. Athletes of all ages and abilities find a space where discipline meets encouragement, and where every rep, sprint, or swing is a step toward long-term growth. For years, SOAR has guided competitors through every stage of their athletic journey—developing strength, confidence, and resilience that extend far beyond the gym walls.

Among those athletes are Emmarie Miles, Ryder Tymkowych, and Lexa Jackson—three individuals who represent different sports, goals, and stages of competition, yet share the same foundation of drive and consistency. Whether it’s the precision of a golf swing, the burst off the football line, or the endurance demanded in the pool, each has discovered that SOAR’s training philosophy is about far more than physical skill. It’s about believing in yourself, trusting the process, and finding joy in the work it takes to reach your next level.

EMMARIE MILES | WOMEN’S GOLF

Five years of training at SOAR have shaped Emmarie into more than just a stronger golfer—they’ve built her confidence, consistency, and love for the process. Every workout is personal, a chance to prove to herself that the work she’s putting in is making a difference. “I always want to show Keith and Kyle that I’m working hard and getting better,” she says. That motivation has paid off: her proudest moment came when her swing speed jumped from 95 to 96 mph—just one mile per hour, but a milestone she’ll never forget. For Emmarie, SOAR’s difference lies in its atmosphere. It’s a place where hard work feels natural, not forced, and where encouragement echoes from every corner of the gym. Surrounded by teammates who cheer one another on, she’s learned that progress comes through persistence, community, and a deep enjoyment of the journey itself.

RYDER TYMKOWYCH | FOOTBALL & TRACK

After seven years with SOAR, Ryder has grown from a young athlete into a leader defined by grit and discipline. Training has taught him that success doesn’t come from shortcuts but from showing up and trusting the process. That philosophy paid off when he broke SOAR’s pro agility record—a goal that once seemed just out of reach. “Strength and speed don’t come overnight, but hard work compounds,” he says. For Ryder, the coaches’ influence extends beyond physical training; they show up to games, celebrate milestones, and push him to exceed his limits while keeping perspective. Teamwork at SOAR isn’t about competition—it’s about building each other up. As he sets his sights on earning a spot in the 3A All-State game, Ryder carries with him the values SOAR instilled: accountability, resilience, and the understanding that greatness is built one rep at a time. AT H LE T E LIF E | FI TNESS

For eight years, Lexa has relied on SOAR’s science-based approach to help her push boundaries both in and out of the pool. Training has strengthened not only her body but her mindset, teaching her that hard work makes the impossible attainable. Her proudest moment came when she hit 17.9 mph on the treadmill—a reflection of her focus and the precision behind every movement SOAR programs. She credits her coaches’ balance of humor and support for keeping her grounded through the toughest sessions. Keith’s ability to lighten the mood and Kyle’s words of affirmation remind her that progress is both physical and mental. As a college swimmer, Lexa’s current goals are to make her team’s scoring lineup and continue building meaningful connections outside of the pool. Her advice to younger athletes echoes her journey: seek guidance, show up early, stay late, and take care of your body—because success begins long before the starting whistle.
