Thankful GREELEY, WHAT ARE YOU THANKFUL FOR THIS YEAR? When we look around, we have so many reasons to count our blessings. We hope that this issue will remind you of the thoughtful, kind and generous people we have living among us as our neighbors and friends. In this issue, you'll read about a few of the numerous multi-generational family-owned businesses in Greeley. We are thankful for these families and the ways they have given back to Greeley for decades, some dating back four generations. It always warms our hearts to see our local businesses go above and beyond

Never has there been a lack of innovation nor dedication to the community in all of Greeley’s 150 years of existence. Today, entrepreneurs, leaders, and families remain abundant in our community, many of whom have long ties to Greeley’s history. In the following pages, you’ll find a few of these names -- families who have built their businesses and raised their families in our community, and

in large part, made Greeley what it is today. Founded by Everett Palser in 1960, Cementer’s Inc. has prioritized family, faith, and community over bottom-line profits for more than 60 years. In 1992, the business made Greeley its forever home when Rose and Jack Stoller purchased the company from Rose’s father, Everett, and moved it to Northern Colorado. For over 20 years, Cementer’s Inc. has dedicated its time to professional, safe, and high-quality cementing services for the oil & gas industry in Weld County.

In 2017, Caity and Nate Kvamme purchased the business from the Stollers, Caity’s parents, and became third-generation owners of Cementer’s Inc. Caity, having grown up among the business, states: “Nate and I are so proud to carry the torch,” and intend to remain strong stewards of Cementer’s, both who and what it represents. To Caity and Nate, being stewards of Cementer’s Inc. implies making business decisions based on what is right, rooted in a strong faith, will lead to long-term success for their clients, their employees and Cementer’s future. Nate and Caity state that, although out of character for corporate America, they “make decisions based on what is right, not simply the bottom-line.” The Kvammes believe in proudly carrying the torch to remain stewards of the foundation that is Cementer’s. “The business has survived all of these years based on the principle to do the right thing, have faith, stay loyal and true to your beliefs, clients, and employees,” Nate explains, “All that, held together by a lot of grit.” The Kvammes commitment to the principles of Cementer’s, coupled with their faith and loyalty to their employees, has made Cementer’s Inc. a trustworthy place to do business, a compassionate employer, and a generous member of the Greeley community for nearly three decades. After years of working with his father, Ed opened the Greeley location in 1985 and continues to oversee the brokerage today. His daughter, Sarah Woodland, is a third-generation broker with real estate in her blood, having been in the real estate business since 2005. Both Ed and Sarah have a deep-rooted love for Colorado land and are passionate about helping others stake their claim. Orr Land Company has witnessed many exciting changes in Greeley over the last 36 years and is proud to call Greeley home. They have been involved in the development of several local communities including Poudre River Ranch, Westridge Farms and T-Bone Ranch. Together, Ed and Sarah are in the process of developing “The Cache,” a large-scale, mixed-use development in West Greeley. The Cache will include unique and thoughtful community features, a diverse product mix and abundant open space in the form of parks, trails, and lakes. Ed and Sarah believe The Cache will be a cornerstone in the Greeley community for generations to come and help to bolster the legacy that the family has cultivated for more than 40 years in Colorado.

S COT T, A N DY, AND TED WA R NER Ted Warner, founder of Connecting Point, has been one of Greeley’s top experts in information technology for nearly 40 years. In the early 1980s, as the PC world was developing, Ted was at the forefront of the PC business market in Northern Colorado, working to connect dozens of small businesses in Northern Colorado to a lucrative, forward-thinking market. Since then, Ted Warner, later joined by his two sons Scott and Andy Warner, has guided hundreds of businesses across Colorado and Wyoming toward high quality network support, with a focus on IT Security and consulting services. As technology became a cornerstone to every small business, Ted developed deep connections to small business owners across the region. After 35 years, Ted transitioned ownership of Connecting Point to his two sons, Scott and Andy, leaving a legacy of purposeful connection with small businesses and exceptional service providing best-in-class technology productions, solutions, services and consulting. Since 2019, Scott and Andy have maintained Ted’s legacy, while building upon the company’s already firm foundation. Today, Connecting Point is recognized as one of the premier Managed IT Services providers across North America, but the Warners don’t stop there. For decades, the family has gone above and beyond in service to local nonprofits and in support of other local businesses, looking to invest back into their community. Connecting Point plays a pivotal role in the makeup of the Warner family, and Ted Warner knows that in the hands of his sons, Connecting Point’s legacy will remain, focusing on community, family, and service.

CHARLIE AND MICHAEL TROT TER Michael Trotter, part-owner of Front Range Roofing Systems with over 25 years of experience in the commercial roofing industry, has been a key player in building the business’ reputation in Greeley. For the past two decades, Michael has prioritized customer-driven service, high-quality products, and a dedicated team of employees. Today, Charlie works as one of the company’s Project Managers. The father-son duo has grown a great appreciation for working together and Michael states that “Seeing Charlie every day is fun but watching him succeed is a thrill.” Beyond their dedication to the business, Michael and Charlie care deeply about serving the community they live, work, and play in. Michael and Charlie are passionate about preparing the next generation of workers, innovators, and thought leaders and support local school district foundations to ensure that young people are being provided as many opportunities and tools as possible. L A R RY, E L L I E , A N D G A RY DUR AN Brothers Gary, Larry, and Ellie Duran take great pride about being born and raised in Greeley. They also take great pride in the fact that for their first 20 plus years of business, their father Ernie was always a call away to help mold and shape them with business advice and mentoring any and all situations. Starting in 1979 with one loader digging basements, Duran excavating has now evolved into a regional company that works in a multitude of large and complex projects. All three brothers have children working in the company. The greatest pride for the three brothers is watching their children embrace and make impacts within their respective roles. Gary’s son Noah is a full-time student but works around his school schedule for Duran Excavating. Ellie’s sons Dustin and Devin both work for the company fulltime and are making great impacts daily. Larry’s son Josh is a valued employee for the company, and his daughter Jon Marie manages the family’s relatively new Poudre River Storage business and is making a great contribution. To a man, the three brothers share, that it’s great to see their children take an interest, embrace the family business and bring new technologies and ideas to grow the business. They are elated that they will be able to pass the torch to the next generations of Duran’s. CityLifestyle.com/Greeley

A PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN TWO VERY DIFFERENT ORGANIZATIONS SERVES OTHERS AND OFFERS SECOND CHANCES.

The core of Weld County Garage culture is, “driven to do what’s right.” Warren lives that out by offering people opportunities for redemption, by partnering with the Greeley organization, Jobs of Hope. “We certainly believe in giving people a second chance whatever your background is,” Warren said. Established in 2013, Jobs of Hope is a faith-based community organization with the mission to: “Restore hope and see transformation in the lives of gang-affiliated individuals and those involved in the justice system.” GREELEY HAS CHANGED SIGNIFICANTLY OVER THE PAST

viding second chances to individuals hoping for transformation. In 1982, Lee Yoder and two business partners purchased Weld County Garage from the third generation of the McArthur Family. In high school, Lee’s son Warren Yoder started working in the business and experienced a bit of everything from washing cars to working in the body shop, service department and sales. Warren said that working in all these areas gave him a greater understanding of the issues the employees address on a regular basis. In 1994, when Lee was ready to retire, Warren was prepared to take the reins. There was no pressure from Warren’s dad to

take over the business. Warren felt it was a natural progression and that he would be in the role someday, however, the transition wasn’t without hiccups. “We really battled. It was hard. It was a hard transition for him, and I really thought I was going to get kicked out of the business,” said Warren. He is thankful that he and his dad worked through it, and eventually, his dad gave Warren the freedom to pave his own path. Warren recalls feeling confident at first in his skills to take over his dad’s business, “When you’re young, you think you know it all, but you don’t want to reveal that you don’t, so you just work harder and try to figure it out. Now it’s like second nature, you don’t even think about it.”

When Warren and his wife Julie Yoder discovered Jobs of Hope, it wasn’t long before their hearts were transformed. As parents of three boys of their own, Warren and Julie quickly gained compassion for the men at Jobs of Hope. The Yoder’s embrace the men from Jobs of Hope the same way they do all employees - like they’re part of the Weld County Garage family. “When some of these guys have left employment with us, it’s always really hard, especially on me - it just hurts,” said Warren, referring to the feeling of a family member leaving.

Good Roofers, Good Neighbors SLAUGHTER ROOFING’S DECADE LONG COMMITMENT TO THE GREELEY COMMUNITY Mike, Cara, and Andy Slaughter

SERVING THE COMMUNITY FOR OVER 30 YEARS, SLAUGHTER ROOFING WAS FOUNDED WITH A DESIRE TO KEEP THEIR NEIGHBORS IN MIND. Slaughter Roofing was established by Mike and Gina Slaughter in 1987 to fill an increasing need for roofing contractors in Northern Colorado. Over the years, two of their children, Andy and Cara, have become increasingly involved in the business, investing their time and efforts to continue the legacy that their parents have cultivated in Greeley. The Slaughter family views their multi-generational, family-oriented business as being uniquely positioned to get to know their customers in a more personal way. “Our favorite part of our business is by far the people…” Mike said. “We love meeting new people, reconnecting with old friends, and providing a service they are both satisfied with and can depend on. We are not just replacing a roof or fixing a leak, we are protecting what’s inside – the things you love the most.” In addition to being a family-oriented business, Slaughter Roofing is dedicated to taking the fear out of getting a new roof by educating their customers personally. “We’ve developed a hands-on approach to walking our customers through the repair or replace process,” Mike added. “Hiring a roofing company can be daunting but our goal is to make the process simple and straightforward.”

GOOD ROOFERS, GOOD NEIGHBORS (CONTINUED)

While many companies like Slaughter Roofing focus on expanding their business to increase profits, the Slaughter family has chosen to follow a less conventional path and remained a small business only in Greeley. “We’ve chosen to stay located in Greeley because scale creates distance and our value is in the community that we have roots planted in,” Mike said. “We love Greeley and it’s a privilege to be a part of this community.” The Slaughters have spent the last 34 years cultivating relationships and raising their families alongside their customers by remaining in Greeley. Staying locally focused has also allowed the Slaughters to uphold one of their core values: “to invest in the wellbeing of our community and the neighborhoods we live and work in.” The Slaughter’s know that residents of Greeley, many of whom are their friends, are tired of high-pressure salespeople who come in after a storm. Remaining community-oriented and striving to be a good neighbor, Slaughter Roofing keeps its process simple and straightforward. In addition to their commitment to customer service, the Slaughter family gives back to the community to demonstrate their gratitude for a great place for their family and business to grow and thrive. “Part of our mission as a local business is to be a good neighbor,” Mike said. “Every year we partner with several local organizations we believe are working to better Greeley for everyone. Some of the groups we have worked with are American Cancer Society, Weld Food Bank, A Woman’s Place, School District 6, and the Greeley Stampede.” For their combined work in their community, and excellent service, Slaughter Roofing has earned several awards, the latest of which being the 2020 Platinum Product Excellence Award for their industry-leading contributions to the roofing category. “This industry recognition reflects our continued focus on bringing a results-oriented, customer-driven approach to running our business and delivering trustworthy, dependable work for homeowners,” Andy said. Every day, members of Slaughter Roofing strive to build relationships with their community, meet the needs of their customers, and strengthen their hometown. The Slaughter family hopes that if they were to close their doors tomorrow, the impact they left on the community could be measured in more than just how many shingles they laid. The team at Slaughter Roofing is more than just good roofers; they’re good neighbors. 36
