Letter from the Editor
The Women’s Issue is our most anticipated theme of the year. As women in business ourselves, we simply couldn't wait to celebrate strong ladies making an impact.
Kadie Dempsey graces our cover this month. Why? Because the majority of artistic goodness you see and experience in Morristown comes from her. From the Pumpkin Illumination to Theatre of Light, the Creative Aging Program, and her tenure at Morris Arts. Then there are outdoor concerts and creative placemaking. She is passionate about sharing art with her community, and it shows. Shining a spotlight on the amazing work of Sue Vorcheimer and her mission, Pass the Crown Around, has been such an honor. We attended her annual event on International Women’s Day and loved being surrounded by so many inspirational stories. Our very own photographer, Barbora Hindson, was one of the honorees, and clapping for her was surely the highlight for us.
Edelweiss Fromm is a woman of the world, and it shows. This Morristown-based interior designer shares her philosophy behind her eclectic taste and her love of delicious cocktails. She’s one half of the Speak Easy Drink Better Podcast that she hosts with her husband, Alex Brescia.
Partnership for Maternal and Child Health is the lead planning agency for maternal and child health services in Northern NJ. We’re proud to have them as a partner and are thrilled to spread awareness about their work. Their programs serve eight counties in New Jersey and reach over 40,000 people annually.
If you happen to be scrolling through Instagram and spot the gorgeous Olivia DiMattio, aka That Food Chick, stop your scroll immediately. She’s a Mendhambased up-and-coming food blogger who shows us all the fabulous things in food.
And what can a mother of five (including two adorable daughters) tell us about raising strong little ladies? A heck of a lot. Our monthly columnist and Morris County mom, Felisha Lynch, sheds light on going from boy mom to girl mom and the precious gifts it’s brought into her life.
So let’s celebrate moms, wives, sisters, aunts, cousins, friends, and colleagues (and anyone else we forgot!). Not only for Mother’s Day, but every day. Show the women in your life how much you appreciate every gesture and sacrifice. Let’s raise up our friends and clap for each other. Because when women support other women, there’s always a seat at the table.

Kadie Dempsey’s Vision Shapes The Morristown Arts Scene
The city of Morristown has one of the most vibrant and artistic cultures in New Jersey. So much of it began as the vision of one remarkable woman, Kadie Dempsey, who has been a strong force in raising awareness of social justice issues, building communities, and using the arts to uplift people, especially women, for most of her life.
“As women, we are naturally nurturers, it’s why I’m good at my job, I care about people. It’s why I’m good at community building, I want to take care of everybody,” said Dempsey.
Before bringing her talents to Morristown, first as Director of Arts in Community at Morris Arts and now as Director of Community Engagement at MPAC, she used photography to put a face on people who often remained invisible. An early project was “Hidden Hungry,” commissioned by Wakefern Food Corporation (ShopRite) for its Campaign on Hunger. Dempsey said, “It revealed the quiet, often unseen struggle of food insecurity among working people.”
She then focused her lens on women who experienced trauma. The photos were part of an exhibition called “Recovery.” Dempsey recalled that it was done in black and white, with “each portrait paired with the woman’s personal narrative and the healing modalities that supported her recovery.” The exhibition was presented at the International Conference for Survivors as a temporary installation at the Morris Museum for a fundraising event and was displayed at Drew University’s library.
Morristown gained a great deal when Dempsey brought her passion to Morris Arts, where she created the Pumpkin Illumination. It literally came to her as a vision while she was looking at the pond in front of the Vail Mansion. She was hit by the notion, “it would be cool to have pumpkins illuminated in it.” As those who have attended know, it isn’t a passive event. Students make masks, and residents bring carved pumpkins. It’s interactive, demanding community participation. This is exactly the way Dempsey likes it.
There’s much more to her tenure at Morris Arts than pumpkins. She helped design a mentoring program at Morristown High School to help young artists strengthen their portfolios for college admissions. She noted, “Some of their artwork explored difficult or disturbing themes.” During this time, she worked with a woman who also served as her mentor. The provocative art alarmed this woman, but not Dempsey. She countered, “I encouraged my mentor to appreciate the disturbing images as a positive outcome of how art can help young people express what they are navigating in the modern world.”
When she started at Morris Arts, it was run by a small staff of women. While not lucrative, Dempsey, a single mother at the time, was drawn to it because it was fulfilling to utilize the arts in a way that hadn’t been done before. It was clear that “the arts can impact communities and women in powerful ways.” She explained, “I created my own life and my own job. I took a little bit of this and a little bit of that.”
“Empowering women creators is one of my greatest passions, helping women see possibilities in themselves that they may not recognize.”
art by Samuelle Green
Dempsey’s impact on the community went into high gear after she was introduced to the term “Creative Placemaking.” A colleague explained to her that she was already putting this concept into practice without even knowing it. He encouraged her to earn a certificate in Creative Placemaking at the Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy at Rutgers University. “This was an eye-opener for me, to see how art fit into urban planning and community development. I believe the arts are essential to creating vibrant, livable communities.”
Dempsey brought this new insight to MPAC and CORE Creative Placemaking, a firm dedicated to transforming public spaces into vibrant, inclusive, community-centered places. Her partner at CORE is her husband, the NJ-based artist Dan Fenelon.
Near and dear to Dempsey’s heart is MPAC’s Creative Aging Program, which goes well beyond crafts. More like a college course, it meets twice a week for 10-weeks and culminates in a show. “It uplifts me,” said Dempsey. “I see the power of the arts bringing people together like an old-time sewing circle. It’s not just art, but the process and community, making the art together.”
Dempsey was also instrumental in MPAC’s Inclusion initiative, which began as a commitment to better serving Morristown’s diverse community. “It has since become woven into the organization’s programming philosophy, resulting in multiple free, outdoor community events, ” said Dempsey. “Inclusion is no longer a separate project; it’s part of the heartbeat of the institution.”
Then there is Theatre of Light, which has become an annual event featuring performances, ice sculpture, fire dancing, and more. “It’s about upliftment. When you see kids walking around with crowns with lights, you can’t help but be happy.”
When women are seen, supported, and celebrated, they thrive. And when women thrive, the creative community becomes richer, more inclusive, and more imaginative for everyone.
art by Amanda Love
Dempsey may have brought light to Morristown through her initiatives, but what lights up her face is talking about the blooming creative community of women in town. “Empowering women creators is one of my greatest passions. I believe in helping women see possibilities in themselves that they may not yet recognize.”
Women don’t always recognize their own artisticness, downplaying it. Dempsey said, “A woman will say I’m not an artist, but I knitted a hat. Women sew and make quilts. Women can do things that people may think are not art. Cooking, sewing, juggling work and family, there’s an art to that.”
Expanding on this subject, Dempsey said, “Women need each other at every age and stage. In a world that bombards young and older women with unrealistic messages, creative communities become places of truth, encouragement, and belonging. I am fortunate to have friendships with women in their 20s through their 90s; we learn from each other, inspire each other, and remind each other of our own magic.”
Dempsey concluded, “When women are seen, supported, and celebrated, they thrive. And when women thrive, the creative community becomes richer, more inclusive, and more imaginative for everyone.”

LIVING
Life ECLECTICALLY
“ECLECTIC DESIGN IS ABOUT COMBINING DIFFERENT STYLES IN A WAY THAT MAKES IT LOOK COHESIVE AND AESTHETICALLY PLEASING.”
What do you get when you mix worldly culture with impeccably eclectic taste? You get Edelweiss Fromm. She’s a Morristown-based interior designer and one-half of the Speak Easy Drink Better Podcast with her husband, Alex Brescia. Born and raised in Honduras, she’s lived and traveled all over the globe, which gives her a style as unique as her name.
She wasn’t born in a country where girls were exposed to all the options available to Americans today; her love for style was innate. She’s bold, bright, curious, and not afraid to take risks. Hot pink tights? Absolutely. Black basement like a moody speakeasy? Done.
CONTINUED >
MORRISTOWN DESIGNER EDELWEISS FROMM BLENDS GLOBAL CULTURE WITH FEARLESS INTERIOR STYLE.
WHO WAS YOUR FIRST INFLUENCE IN DESIGN?
100% my mother. I grew up always seeing my mom be into design, even when she didn’t know it. She’s always paying attention to detail, and I grew up in a very wellput-together home.
When I was a kid, we watched telenovelas, and my mother would be like, “Oh, look at those curtains!” I always thought it was funny that she was paying attention to the pillows and the sofa when there was so much drama going on in the show!
DID YOU GO TO SCHOOL FOR INTERIOR DESIGN?
I wanted to study interior design when I was in high school. In the late 90’s in Honduras, that career wasn’t available. So, I studied Business Administration and earned a Master’s in International Business. And I have really never worked in that field! I just wanted to do my own thing. Later on, I received a certification in Interior Design from the New York Institute of Art + Design, and I also studied floral art and design for a year while living in Mexico, which played a big role in shaping my creative perspective.
HOW DID YOU GET YOUR START?
When we lived in Mexico, I started an event-planning business. Everything I’ve done has always been related to creativity. When we came back to New Jersey, I worked in retail, interior design, and fashion. Then I decided in my 40’s to work as a personal stylist and interior designer. That’s what I’ve been doing for the past four-plus years.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE?
Eclectic. I know sometimes that word has a negative connotation, people think it’s just a bunch of things thrown together. It’s more than that. It’s one of the hardest styles to accomplish successfully. Because it can look crazy if you don’t do it correctly. It’s combining different styles in a way that makes it look cohesive and aesthetically pleasing. So yes, I love dark, but I love pops of color, and I love mixing patterns.

PASS THE CROWN AROUND
SUE VORCHEIMER'S MISSION WHERE WOMEN ARE THE MAIN EVENT
International Women’s Day has been celebrated annually for over one hundred years. The earliest version in New York City was observed in 1909 and has since evolved into a worldwide event that promotes equality and brings to light injustices against women
ARTICLE BY ALISON LUKIN PHOTOGRAPHY BY @_SOCIALJACK_
In its modern form, people all over the world gather on March 8th to bring notable women to the forefront and show younger generations what’s possible when our community bands together. It’s a time to celebrate more established females and inspire their daughters to dream big. After all, their dreams are worth it. When women have a seat at the table, anything is possible.
Then there are the women who are building the tables. Sue Vorcheimer, Director of Marketing and PR at 1776 Morristown, is also the founder of the groundbreaking movement, Pass the Crown Around. Her vision is “a platform intentionally created to help women showcase their ideas, companies, brands, and leadership.”
On International Women’s Day 2026, Pass the Crown Around celebrated its 5th annual Women’s Day Experience at the Harborside Building Atrium in Jersey City. Over 200 people gathered to honor eleven trailblazers who are shattering the glass ceiling in their own businesses. Notable recipients include our very own Morristown-based photographer, Barbora Hindson, whose creativity and sensitivity celebrate women with every click of her camera. Also, Dr. Marisa Sweeney, New Jersey Assemblywoman and founder of Be Well Integrative Health Services in Morristown, is shedding light on women’s health in a way that has long been vastly underrepresented.
Vorcheimer opened the event by explaining, “Every year we have a word that encompasses our mission. This year, our word is REWIRED. At the center of REWIRED is our Emotional IQ. It allows us to lead with empathy, read a room, build authentic relationships, trust our instincts, and create meaningful impact.” And the impact that was created in that room was nothing short of extraordinary.
One of our favorite speakers of the afternoon was Deb Balfatto, founder of Let’s Talk Women’s Health and Wellness. She is a two-time breast cancer
survivor whose passion for supporting women was contagious. She proclaimed on stage, “Look someone in the eye and let them know that they matter. Make your words rich, make them matter. I’ve committed myself that every woman has the same access to healthcare that I did. That saved my life.”
Let’s Talk Women’s Health and Wellness was this year’s PTCA charity of choice. Each year, they bring together thousands of women to support education, advocacy, and access to healthcare throughout all stages of their lives. It’s organizations like these that move mountains for women, and Vorcheimer has made it her mission to build a platform to raise awareness of such exemplary charities.
The PCTA Woman of the Year was awarded to Dr. Smita Ramanadham. She is one of the few board-certified female plastic surgeons. She spoke about how lucky she felt to be fully supported by her male colleagues. She explained, “We’re in this together. Now I have the privilege to work with women to help them look and feel their best.”

What Becoming a Girl Mom Has Taught Me
RAISING STRONG LITTLE LADIES
ARTICLE AND PHOTOGRAPHY BY FELISHA LYNCH
For the first five years of motherhood, I was a full-on boy mom. Three little boys in three years. Dirt, superheroes, endless energy, and a house that constantly sounded like someone was jumping off furniture—I loved every second of it!
But if I’m being honest, I’ve always hoped that one day we’d have a girl (or two, hehe).
When we got pregnant with our fourth baby, we did a gender reveal. I had convinced myself it was another boy, because that’s all I knew. When the smoke popped, and it was pink, I was so shocked and excited that I didn’t even announce it right away. I actually called my doctor to double-check before telling anyone. I just needed to hear someone confirm it was real.
Becoming a girl mom after being a boy mom for so long has been one of the sweetest surprises of my life.
My girls are still little, but already so different in ways that make me smile. There’s the sweetness, the big emotions, the way they want to copy everything I do. They notice things their brothers
never cared about. My shoes, my makeup, the way I do my hair. They’re watching EVERYTHING.
And that realization changed something in me.
Raising daughters makes me more aware of the example I’m setting. How I talk about myself. How I treat my body. How I handle challenges. Whether I say it out loud or not, they’re learning what it means to be a woman by watching me.
Being a girl mom isn’t about raising perfect daughters. It’s about raising confident ones. Girls who know their worth. Girls who are kind, strong, and not afraid to take up space in the world.
I love the chaos of being a boy mom, but having daughters added a whole new layer to motherhood that I didn’t even know I was missing.
And honestly, watching them grow into themselves might be my favorite adventure yet!

WHETHER IT'S CARS, COFFEE, OR CUISINE, OLIVIA DEMATTIO HAS ALWAYS IGNORED BARRIERS AND FOCUSED ON HER PASSIONS
DRIVING SUCCESS — HER WAY
At 33 years old, I’ve built a life defined by passion, determination, and a fearless willingness to follow what I love. As a Mendham resident, I’ve created a personal brand that spans the automotive world, small business ownership, and a growing lifestyle platform—all while staying rooted in the community I call home.
Many people came to know me in 2016 when I was crowned Miss New Jersey United States. While the title gave me a platform, it was never just about the spotlight. It was an opportunity to connect with people, build confidence, and lay the foundation for the entrepreneurial journey that would soon follow.
Cars have always been at the center of my life. Long before it became my career, my love for automobiles was personal. For years, I drove a six-speed manual Mustang as my daily driver, embracing the thrill and
connection that only a true car enthusiast understands. That passion pushed me to pursue a path many might not have expected.
In 2018, I joined Maplecrest Ford, selling cars—an industry traditionally dominated by men. But I didn’t just enter the automotive world; I made it my own. At times, I sold over 30 cars in a single month! Through authenticity, enthusiasm, and a deep knowledge of vehicles, I quickly built a reputation among customers and colleagues. It was during this time that I became known as “That Ford Chick,” a nickname that captured both my expertise and my personality.
My brand grew naturally from there. My ability to connect with customers, share my enthusiasm for cars, and bring energy to the showroom floor helped me stand out in a competitive field. I learned that passion—when paired with hard work and confidence—can break down barriers and redefine expectations.
But my ambitions didn’t stop at the dealership.
In 2021, I took a bold step into entrepreneurship by purchasing Simple Coffee in Mendham. The café held special meaning for me—I had been the original manager back in 2016, and even then, I quietly carried a dream of owning it one day. Five years later, that dream became reality.
Owning Simple Coffee allowed me to deepen my connection to the Mendham community. The café became more than just a place for coffee; it’s a local gathering spot where neighbors, friends, and visitors share conversations, ideas, and daily routines. I’ve even brought my love of cars into the coffee shop by hosting massive car shows that spill down Main Street, drawing enthusiasts from across the region and turning the small-town street into a lively celebration of automotive culture and community.
In 2023, another creative outlet emerged when I launched “That Food Chick,” a lifestyle blog inspired by my love of food, fashion, and travel. The name itself is a playful extension of the brand that began in the automotive world with “That Ford Chick.”
Through the blog, I share experiences that go far beyond the showroom floor or coffee counter. From discovering new restaurants and travel destinations to exploring personal style and everyday inspiration, “That Food Chick” reflects the many sides of me.
What makes my story meaningful to me isn’t just the variety of things I do—it’s the authenticity behind them. Each chapter of my journey has grown organically from the things I genuinely love.
Whether I’m talking about the thrill of selling cars, welcoming customers into my café, hosting community car events, or sharing my latest culinary discovery or outfit on my blog, I believe success is most powerful when it’s driven by passion.
And if my journey so far is any indication, this is only the beginning.

BECKY HILLYARD
From Side Hustle to Style Empire
The power of taste, trust, and the courage to “just start.”
She didn’t have a business plan, a media budget, or even a name anyone could pronounce. What Becky Hillyard had was taste, a young family, and the instinct to just start. Today, her lifestyle brand Cella Jane commands an audience the size of Vogue’s, she’s nine collections strong with Splendid, and she’s built it all while raising three kids — refusing to sacrifice one for the other. In an exclusive conversation for the Share the Lifestyle podcast, Becky shares what it really takes to build a brand, a career, and a life you love. Read the highlights below, then scan the QR code for the full conversation.
Q: WHEN DID YOU KNOW CELLA JANE WAS MORE THAN A HOBBY?
A: Two moments. Women started emailing me saying they bought something I recommended and felt amazing — asking me to help them find a dress for a wedding. That felt incredible. Then I looked at my affiliate numbers for one month and realized I could cover our mortgage. I thought, I can actually do this. I never set out to build a business. I started it because I genuinely loved it.
Becky in Splendid x @CellaJaneBlog Spring 2026 Collection
Q: WHAT WAS THE BIGGEST RISK YOU EVER TOOK WITH THE BRAND?
A: Designing my own collection. It’s easy to point at items on a website and say I love these. But to create something from scratch, put your name on it, and wait to see if people connect with it — that’s terrifying. I had an incredible partner in Splendid, and women loved the pieces. It was the biggest risk and the biggest accomplishment.
Q: HOW HAS INFLUENCER MARKETING CHANGED SINCE YOU STARTED?
A: When I started, brands didn’t know whether to take it seriously. Now it’s a legitimate line item in their marketing budgets — sometimes bigger than TV. Because what we’ve built is trust. People trust a real recommendation from someone they follow far more than a commercial. There’s no question about it now.
Q: YOU’RE A MOM OF THREE RUNNING A FULL BRAND. WHAT DOES YOUR DAY ACTUALLY LOOK LIKE?
A: I try to get up at five and not hit snooze — that first hour before the house wakes up is the most productive, most peaceful hour of my day. Then it’s all hands on deck with the kids and school drop-off. After that I work — planning content, connecting with my team, editing. After pickup, the day shifts completely and it’s all about them. I’ve learned to protect both halves fiercely, because both matter.
Q: WHAT WOULD YOU TELL SOMEONE WHO WANTS TO BUILD SOMETHING OF THEIR OWN BUT KEEPS WAITING?
A: Don’t wait. Don’t wait for the perfect camera, the right strategy, or enough followers. We find every excuse to stay comfortable. Just start, be consistent, and be authentically yourself. The right people will find you — and they’ll stay.
This conversation is just the beginning. Becky goes deeper on the risks that almost stopped her, the design process behind her latest Splendid collection, and what she’d tell her 2012 self today. Scan the QR code for the full, exclusive City Lifestyle interview on the Share the Lifestyle Podcast.
“Trust is the only metric that actually compounds.”
