September is already upon us! HARD TO BELIEVE, BUT SUMMER IS COMING TO A CLOSE. The days are a bit shorter, the air is a tad cooler and kids are going back to school. Still, the calendar says we hang on to summer for about three more weeks and here at Glastonbury Lifestyle, September is our “Style” issue!

For this month’s issue we talked with Debbie Shain, owner of Glastonbury’s newest fashion boutique, Gotta Have It, at 2235 Main St. Debbie has curated a careful selection of accessories and fashions, from clothes and hats to jewelry and even greeting cards, in her new store. Her focus is on products created by women or sold by women-owned businesses, and products from companies that focus on giving back in their communities. Gotta Have It is also where we shot this month’s cover photo, by Carrie Draghi Photography of South Glastonbury, and we styled our models, Jacqueline Perrelli and Taylor Patterson, in some of the designs the boutique carries. Looking to restyle your home’s interior? We talked with Judi Alvino, of Judi Alvino Designs, about what makes for good interior design and what some of the trends are for 2021. Judi has worked as an interior designer for nearly 40 years and believes that a good interior design can help you live a happy, balanced life. We also spoke with the owners of the town’s newest spa, Eliana, a Del Soul Spa at 136 New London Turnpike. Eliana’s will include a “float center,” where patrons can float in a large tub of salted water for a weightless and tranquil experience. It’s the only spa in town that has such a treatment.

Changes with your bank have you ready to throw in the towel? Wouldn’t it be nice to relax this summer knowing your bank will be waiting for you when you get home? Unfortunately, several local banks will once again be merging, changing names, or leaving town altogether — if one of these is your bank, isn’t it time you made some changes too? At Dime Bank, we are welcoming customers who have had enough — and we’ve been doing it for over 150 summers.

FALL FOLIAGE TIME
IS UPON US
THE LEAVES WILL BE CHANGING SOON AND YOU CAN WATCH THEM FOR WEEKS ACROSS NEW ENGLAND
LEAF-PEEPING SEASON IS JUST WEEKS AWAY AND IS THERE ANYWHERE BETTER TO VIEW AUTUMN'S BOUNTIFUL LEAF DISPLAY THAN IN CONNECTICUT AND THE REST OF NEW ENGLAND? Throughout late September and October denizens of this region can travel throughout New England to see the breathtaking kaleidoscope of changing colors. The website newenglandinnsandresorts.com offers an excellent description of where to go throughout the fall to see the foliage. “New Englanders celebrate their harvest and come together in preparation for winter. Fall is perhaps the most festive time to visit New England and join in the celebration while marveling at the vibrant grand finale on display by Mother Nature," the site says. "Fall foliage in New England doesn’t develop in every corner of the region at once, however, so it’s important to know what areas make for the best leaf peeping at a given time." Start your tour in northern Maine where starting around the third week of September the hillsides are awash in color. Leaf peep at locations like Aroostook State Park on Route 11, Eagle Lake Public Land, Mount Kineo and Rockwood. Around the same time, tree colors start popping in northern Vermont and New Hampshire. In popular Burlington, Vt. you can watch sunsets and the foliage over Lake Champlain or take a hike up Mount Mansfield or Camel’s Hump. "Beginning in late September and culminating in mid-October, the fall foliage season in Vermont is second to none. The state’s lush

GLASTONBURY’S NEWEST BOUTIQUE FOCUSES ON WOMEN-OWNED BUSINESSES AND GIVING BACK
GLASTONBURY HAS A NEW WOMEN’S CLOTHING BOUTIQUE THAT PUTS THE FOCUS ON WOMEN-CREATED BRANDS, UPCYCLED DESIGNS AND PRODUCTS THAT GIVE BACK. “It’s a curated unique collection of items that women will love,” says Debbie Shain, owner of Gotta Have It, located at 2235 Main St. While the business opened its doors in July, Debbie has operated Gotta Have It since 2014. The business was an outgrowth of her 22-year career selling hair care products to beauty salons. “I decided to reinvent myself,” she says. She started dabbling in “mini boutiques” inside of hair salons and upscale spas with displays of women’s jewelry and other small accessories. That led to selling products at festivals, vendor days inside businesses and pop-up events. When Covid hit many of those sales outlets dried up and that led Debbie to consider opening her own shop.

Her 800-square-foot boutique is located in the former Nana’s Infant & Children’s Boutique on Main Street. Gotta Have It carries products produced by women-owned businesses and made in America. Those products include clothing, artisan jewelry, handbags, hats and more. “You’ll find a nice collection of items from a lot of different people,” she says. “Because it’s a small space, clothes will change frequently. I will buy only six to eight items of one design so that if you pop in once a month the wall of clothing will look totally different than the last time you were here.” The boutique will also carry a line of jeans from a company called Kut From the Kloth. Debbie says she specifically sought out the small designer label for its affordability. The jeans retail for less than $100 “because as much as I love jeans I’m not paying $200 for a pair,” she says. “I carry Hobo Handbags and Vintage Havana sneakers and clothing.” Gotta Have It also will carry greeting cards because Debbie says she wanted to create a retail space where customers can buy a gift and not have to go elsewhere to find a card. “I’d love to be known for being the kind of place where you can pop in and get gifts and a card, a one-stop shop experience.” A

SINCE THEIR INCEPTION MORE THAN 50 YEARS AGO COSMETIC MEDICAL PROCEDURES HAVE BECOME SO MAINSTREAM TODAY THAT WOMEN AS YOUNG AS 25 GET THEM. “It’s really become more acceptable and the younger generation does it as preventive care,” says Sara Moore, who recently opened a new medical spa in Marlborough, Moore Wellness Solutions, at 16 West Road. As the name implies, Sara says her practice focuses on the overall health and wellness of her clients. “As a wellness center it’s about more than just medical aesthetics. My goal is really for people to have more self confidence. I think when they do, they put themselves out there more in their health and wellness journey because often short term fixes can help you make a significant lifestyle change.” She opened Moore Wellness Solutions in November of 2020 - “In the midst of the pandemic,” she jokes. But doing so, she says, allowed her to focus on getting established and building the business. Moore Wellness Solutions is the only medical spa in Marlborough and its clientele comes from the community as well as several surrounding towns. Many of her clients are currently from Glastonbury, Sara says. Having her business just outside of the town actually works to the spa’s advantage, she says. “I think my clients enjoy getting out of the hustle and bustle of Glastonbury. become much more approachable and acceptable to many people, some clients still want to maintain a level of privacy.” The growth of medical aesthetic treatments has taken the wellness industry by storm since arriving on the scene in the early 1990s as a way to blend traditional spa treatments with noninvasive medical technology. Today, medical spas can offer non-surgical, anti-aging treatments that were once performed only at a doctor's practice. A certified nurse practitioner and medical care provider with more than 16 years of experience, Sara says she focuses on treatments that support both physical and emotional well-being. For instance, she offers customizable IV fluid treatments to target a variety of conditions, but they also can help boost how someone feels overall by providing essential vitamins and hydration that many people lack in their daily lives. “It just helps you to get the fluids your body needs to help operate at its peak. It gives you more hydration and makes you feel better. Some people do it monthly, some folks do it after a road race or if they’re coming off a vacation where they’ve done too much drinking or too much unhealthy eating.” Her spa offers a full roster of other medical aesthetic treatments, such as neuromodulators, which reduce wrinkles; volume enhancements with soft tissue dermal fillers; and collagen induction therapy, or microneedling, to rejuvenate tired dull skin. The spa additionally has ultherapy treatments, the only FDAcleared, non-invasive procedure for lifting the neck, chin and brow, and improves lines and wrinkles on the upper chest. Sara also offers a full line of pharmaceutical grade skin care products, vitamins and metagenics supplements. “Everything I do here is very personal to me.
