Celebrating Gilbert Women Who Lead, Connect, and Inspire Community

The heart of any community is its people, and in Gilbert, that heart is shaped in so many ways by the women who show up, lead, and support those around them.

This month, we’re celebrating the women of Gilbert, those who were nominated, recognized, and selected because of the impact they’re making every single day. These women are leaders, creators, business owners, friends, and neighbors. They are building things, lifting others up, and helping shape what it means to be part of this community.

What makes this issue meaningful is that it isn’t just about individual stories, it’s about how those stories connect. The way women here collaborate, encourage one another, and continue to create spaces where others feel seen and supported. There is a genuine sense of community that runs deep, and it’s something that continues to grow.

Throughout these pages, you’ll find a mix of features created with women in mind. We’re sharing thoughtful insights, highlighting incredible women from right here in Gilbert, and including ideas that can support your everyday life in a way that feels approachable and realistic.

At its core, this issue is about connection. The kind that comes from shared experiences, from showing up for one another, and from building something meaningful together over time.

I hope you enjoy reading and feel inspired by the women and stories featured throughout these pages.

Behind the Scenes with

YOUR PUBLISHER

I have a confession. When I sat down to write this, I stared at a blank page longer than I'd like to admit. Not because I didn't have anything to say, but because I had too much. I kept thinking about specific faces. Specific women. The one who runs a platform just to connect every good thing happening in this town with the people who need it most. The one who opens her arms and gives families a home and a second chance. The one who faced cancer head on, documented every hard and ugly and hopeful moment of it, and shared it all so that another woman sitting in that same chair someday would know, hey, here is what this really looks like, and if I can do it, so can you.

I know these women. Living in Gilbert, I am blessed beyond words to know them, and I am hoping with my whole heart that you are too. If this issue introduces you to even one more of these remarkable ladies, then that's a WIN.  Honestly, I wish I had unlimited pages to share everything I know and love about each woman featured here, because their stories deserve that and then some. But I only get to offer you a small glimpse, and I hope it leaves you wanting to know more. Because there are also so many more Gilbert women who belong in these pages, women who are leading, creating, and showing up every single day in ways that honestly take my breath away. Thankfully, there is always next year's Women of Gilbert issue, and trust me, I am already keeping a list.

So please, lean in. Visit their businesses. Support their nonprofits. Follow them on social media. Get curious about what they are building and why it matters. It is absolutely okay to become a super fan, because I can honestly tell you that I am.

I promise your life will be a little richer, a little brighter, and a whole lot more inspired for knowing each of these ladies,  even just a little more.

CONVERSATIONS THAT CHANGE EVERYTHING

MINDY JONES SHARES HOW BETTER CONVERSATIONS CREATE MEANINGFUL GROWTH

There comes a point in nearly every entrepreneur’s journey where momentum alone stops being enough. On the surface, everything may still look successful. The business is running, the calendar is full, and from the outside, it appears like growth is happening. But internally, something begins to shift. Decisions feel heavier. Conversations feel more complex. And the path forward isn’t as clear as it once was.

For Mindy Jones, that moment wasn’t a setback. It was a signal. A signal to evolve. Today, as the founder of the Amy Jones Group, Community

on Purpose, and On Purpose Strategies, she has built her work around helping people navigate exactly these kinds of moments. With a foundation rooted in real estate and expanded through coaching, she operates at the intersection of business strategy, communication, and human connection.  For Mindy, it all comes back to how we show up in conversations. “The most important skill isn’t knowing what to say,” she shares. “It’s knowing how to think about conversations differently.” Her background in real estate gave her daily exposure to real, high-stakes conversations. Helping clients buy or sell a home isn’t just about transactions. It involves navigating finances, relationships, timing, and emotions, often all at once. Over time, she began to recognize that success wasn’t just tied to market knowledge or strategy. It was deeply connected to how conversations were handled along the way. The questions being asked. The assumptions being made. And sometimes, the things left unsaid.

That realization led her to dive deeper into communication, becoming an Exactly What to Say® Certified Guide and developing frameworks that now support entrepreneurs across industries. What began as a way to better serve her clients evolved into a way to help people lead, connect, and grow with intention.

“Most people don’t need more information,” Mindy explains. “They need better questions.”

That belief shapes how she works with clients. Rather than jumping straight into tactics, she encourages people to slow down and look at what is really happening beneath the surface. Because more often than not, the challenge isn’t the business itself. It is how we are thinking about it.

A client may say they need more leads, but through conversation, it becomes clear the real issue is confidence, clarity in messaging, or discomfort in follow-up. These are communication gaps. And that is where real change begins.

For those in a season where growth feels unclear or harder than it used to, Mindy offers a grounded approach. It starts with clarity. “Before you add more,” she says, “ask yourself what actually matters right now.”

It is easy to stay busy because it feels productive, but clarity is what creates direction. Taking a closer look at the conversations happening daily can reveal more than expected. Are they moving things forward, or keeping things stuck?

Preparation, she notes, is often overlooked but powerful. “The last time to think about what you’re going to say is in the moment you’re saying it.” Thinking ahead about conversations can shift outcomes, creating more confidence and intention.

When things feel stalled, many people instinctively push harder. But Mindy encourages a different approach. “Curiosity opens doors that pressure closes.” By replacing pressure with curiosity, conversations become more natural and effective.

This mindset carries into how she views business as a whole. Relationships, not transactions, sustain long-term success. “When you build real relationships, opportunities follow,” she shares.

That same sense of intention shows up in how she has built her own business. Her nonprofit, Community on Purpose, is not separate from her work, it is woven into it. Volunteer efforts, partnerships, and giving initiatives are part of how she and her team operate. “I never wanted business and impact to feel like two different things,” she says. “For me, they’re the same.”

At home, Mindy’s role as a mom reinforces everything she teaches. Instead of leading with correction, she leads with connection. “Connection before direction,” she shares. It is a simple shift that builds awareness and stronger relationships over time.

It is also a reminder that growth is not about perfection. It is about presence. About being willing to pause, ask better questions, and stay engaged in the process.

At the heart of Mindy’s work is a deeper invitation to rethink what growth really looks like. “There’s nothing wrong with wanting more,” she says. “But the real question is, more of what?”

In a world that often prioritizes speed and scale, her perspective feels refreshing. Growth does not always mean doing more. Sometimes, it means thinking more clearly, communicating more intentionally, and building stronger, more meaningful connections along the way.

DIY DAY

INSPIRATION FOR A MOTHER/ DAUGHTER DIY DAY

WITH MOM

An afternoon spent together is priceless with today’s busy schedules. Instead of going out, staying in can provide quaint, quiet one-on-one time for a mother and daughter (or multiple daughters). Finding time on calendars is the hard part, and filling that time is all fun from there. Here are a few favorite ideas for inspiration that may spark excitement for planning those special times together.

01 Interview Journaling

Storytelling makes for the best memories. Structure memory recall by filming or journaling interview-style question-andanswer sessions, cataloging information for future generations. Videos and notes with detailed family adventures are priceless, and we all always wish we had more of them.

02 Charm Necklaces 03

Custom DIY charm necklaces and bracelets are trending. Gather a theme idea: birthstones, family initials, travels or even favorite hobbies, and procure charms from your local craft store or online shop. Selecting charms for each other also could be a fun way to bring delight to the crafting occasion. Necklaces and bracelets can be made for each other, or as future gifts for upcoming occasions such as a family wedding, a birthday milestone or an anniversary.

Text conversations around kitchen tips or ingredient procurement seem endless. Spend some time together in the kitchen preparing favorite family recipes, sharing Mom’s best tips and tricks. Choosing freezer-friendly meals is a great way to walk away with meals for upcoming busy days. There’s nothing like Mom’s recipes!

Photo Archive Day

Printed photos are often stored in boxes or tubs with little organization. Perhaps you have photos of your own, or even a grandparent who has passed, that need an organization overhaul. While these projects can be daunting, ‘many hands make light work.’ Group the photos by decade and file them in order. Consider purchasing a photo scanner to digitize the files for future generations. Photo organization always brings storytelling, laughter and warm memories.

MELANIE BARNES AT DISCOVER STRENGTH GILBERT IS PROVING THAT FEWER WORKOUTS AND A LITTLE INTENTION CHANGES ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING.

STRONG WOMEN, STRONGER LIVES

Melanie Barnes, owner of Discover Strength in Gilbert, has built her work around helping women approach fitness in a way that is both effective and sustainable. With a focus on evidence-based strength training and time-efficient workouts, she specializes in guiding women through a simplified, science-backed approach that prioritizes longterm health, confidence, and real results over trends or extremes.

For many women, strength training can feel intimidating, time-consuming, or simply not designed for them. But according to Melanie, the biggest barriers are not physical, they are rooted in misconception.

“I could write a whole article on fitness misconceptions for women,” Barnes says. “The two biggest are not having enough time and the fear of getting bulky.”

The belief that you need to commit to three to five workouts per week is often enough to stop someone from starting at all. In reality, research shows that strength training just one to two times per week can provide meaningful health benefits when done correctly. The focus is not on frequency alone, but on efficiency, working all major muscle groups and training with enough intensity to challenge the body.

This shift in approach makes strength training far more accessible, especially for women balancing careers, families, and full schedules. “It’s not about doing more,” Barnes explains. “It’s about doing what’s effective.”

Another common concern is the fear of developing a bulky or masculine appearance. Physiologically, this is highly unlikely. Women naturally have significantly lower testosterone levels than men, which limits the ability to build large muscle mass. Instead, strength training supports a more toned, defined look, as muscle is denser than fat and contributes to improved body composition.

While physical changes are often the most visible, they are far from the most important. Strength training has a measurable impact on long-term health outcomes. “Strength training reduces your risk of mortality by about 40%,” Barnes says. “In simple terms, it makes you 40% harder to kill.”

That benefit alone positions strength training as one of the most powerful tools for longevity. It also plays a critical role in preserving bone density, which naturally begins to decline around age 30. For women, this is especially important in reducing the risk of osteoporosis and fractures later in life.

Beyond bone health, strength training supports metabolic function and hormonal balance. It improves insulin sensitivity, helping regulate blood sugar and reduce inflammation, and plays a role in balancing cortisol, estrogen, and progesterone. These factors are particularly impactful for women navigating perimenopause and menopause, where symptoms like mood swings, fatigue, and hot flashes can become more pronounced.

There are also significant cognitive and emotional benefits. Strength training increases levels of brain-derived neurotrophic factor, which supports brain health and the development of new neural pathways. At the same time, it triggers the release of endorphins, serotonin, and dopamine, chemicals that improve mood, reduce stress, and contribute to an overall sense of well-being.

For those who feel intimidated by the gym environment, Barnes emphasizes that getting started does not require perfection or complexity. Slowing down movements, focusing on controlled form, and even beginning at home can be highly effective. “A set of adjustable weights, or even just bodyweight, is enough to get a great workout,” she says.

CONTINUED >

A simple, sustainable routine is often the most effective. Sessions as short as 20 to 30 minutes, once or twice per week, can build strength when centered around compound movements like leg presses, rows, chest presses, and pulldowns. These exercises engage multiple muscle groups at once, maximizing results in a shorter amount of time.

Over time, the changes extend far beyond strength alone. Women who commit to a consistent routine often experience reduced pain, particularly in the low back, shoulders, and knees, along with improved energy, body composition, and confidence. “My

favorite change,” Barnes shares, “is when someone who used to dread working out starts to genuinely enjoy it.”

That shift in mindset may be the most powerful transformation of all. Strength training becomes less about obligation and more about empowerment.

And for women navigating full, busy lives, that perspective matters. When approached with intention and consistency, even in small doses, strength training becomes more than just exercise, it becomes a long-term investment in health, independence, and quality of life.

GARDEN TO GLASS

DIY COCKTAILS WITH FRESH HERBS

Nothing says spring like the aroma of fresh-cut herbs in a crisp, cold, cocktail. With warmer weather finally here, growing herbs at home can transform your cocktail hour and add a fresh kick to your springtime favorites.

Growing herbs is incredibly easy and can be done in a variety of ways—from a container in a window, to a planter box in the yard. With a container or garden full of fresh herbs, you will be ready to take your cocktails up a notch.

Basil is a bright herb that is easy to grow and perfect for cocktails. Make sure to harvest immediately before mixing drinks and take leaves from the top to ensure a continual harvest. Fresh muddled basil leaves lend a crispness to the Gin Basil Cucumber cocktail.

Sage is easy to grow and does well in containers. The leaves add an earthy freshness to a refreshing cherry-infused Bourbon.

Mint is also easy to grow, but give it lots of room, as it likes to spread out and is virtually indestructible in the garden. Mint is a versatile herb but is especially lovely in the Rhubarb Mint Mojito.

Try recreating these refreshing cocktails with herbs grown at home and take your cocktail game to new heights!

BECKY HILLYARD

From Side Hustle to Style Empire

The power of taste, trust, and the courage to “just start.”

She didn’t have a business plan, a media budget, or even a name anyone could pronounce. What Becky Hillyard had was taste, a young family, and the instinct to just start. Today, her lifestyle brand Cella Jane commands an audience the size of Vogue’s , she’s nine collections strong with Splendid, and she’s built it all while raising three kids — refusing to sacrifice one for the other. In an exclusive conversation for the Share the Lifestyle podcast, Becky shares what it really takes to build a brand, a career, and a life you love. Read the highlights below, then scan the QR code for the full conversation.

Q: WHEN DID YOU KNOW CELLA JANE WAS MORE THAN A HOBBY?

A: Two moments. Women started emailing me saying they bought something I recommended and felt amazing — asking me to help them find a dress for a wedding. That felt incredible. Then I looked at my affiliate numbers for one month and realized I could cover our mortgage. I thought, I can actually do this. I never set out to build a business. I started it because I genuinely loved it.

Becky in Splendid x @CellaJaneBlog Spring 2026 Collection

Q: WHAT WAS THE BIGGEST RISK YOU EVER TOOK WITH THE BRAND?

A: Designing my own collection. It’s easy to point at items on a website and say I love these. But to create something from scratch, put your name on it, and wait to see if people connect with it — that’s terrifying. I had an incredible partner in Splendid, and women loved the pieces. It was the biggest risk and the biggest accomplishment.

Q: HOW HAS INFLUENCER MARKETING CHANGED SINCE YOU STARTED?

A: When I started, brands didn’t know whether to take it seriously. Now it’s a legitimate line item in their marketing budgets — sometimes bigger than TV. Because what we’ve built is trust. People trust a real recommendation from someone they follow far more than a commercial. There’s no question about it now.

Q: YOU’RE A MOM OF THREE RUNNING A FULL BRAND. WHAT DOES YOUR DAY ACTUALLY LOOK LIKE?

A: I try to get up at five and not hit snooze — that first hour before the house wakes up is the most productive, most peaceful hour of my day. Then it’s all hands on deck with the kids and school drop-off. After that I work — planning content, connecting with my team, editing. After pickup, the day shifts completely and it’s all about them. I’ve learned to protect both halves fiercely, because both matter.

Q: WHAT WOULD YOU TELL SOMEONE WHO WANTS TO BUILD SOMETHING OF THEIR OWN BUT KEEPS WAITING?

A: Don’t wait. Don’t wait for the perfect camera, the right strategy, or enough followers. We find every excuse to stay comfortable. Just start, be consistent, and be authentically yourself. The right people will find you — and they’ll stay.

This conversation is just the beginning. Becky goes deeper on the risks that almost stopped her, the design process behind her latest Splendid collection, and what she’d tell her 2012 self today. Scan the QR code for the full, exclusive City Lifestyle interview on the Share the Lifestyle podcast.
