FIVE YEARS OF FASHION WITH HEART
14

ARTICLE BY RENEE DONNELL PHOTOGRAPHY BY MARIAH KELLY | SHELBY MILLS
Tucked away in the heart of Gallatin, Honey + Suede has become more than just a boutique—it’s a go-to destination for effortless style and personalized fashion. Founded by dynamic mother-daughter duo Kelly and Shelby Mills, the shop is celebrating five years in business, marking the milestone with a move to a beautiful new location that reflects their ever-evolving brand. Known for their intentionally curated selection of clothing and accessories, Kelly and Shelby also share their expert style tips, helping customers feel confident and put-together every day. As proud members of Gallatin’s thriving small business community, they’ve built an invaluable following by blending fashion-forward finds with genuine local connection. When it comes to Honey + Suede’s signature style, their core remains constant—beautifully crafted pieces, from essential basics to unique accents, designed for their customers’ everyday wardrobe. “We offer a style that’s both luxurious and effortless,” they share. “We always look at trend forecasts before planning to buy for the upcoming seasons. We usually look into trends such as colors, textures and patterns. Every little detail is carefully thought out and executed.”
On top of their attention to detail, Kelly and Shelby are locally recognized experts on fashion and style. To effortlessly elevate an everyday outfit, “Accessorize!! You can take any pair of jeans and a white tee and make it look effortlessly chic. Add a belt, layer some necklaces, pair it with a colorful shoe and add a cute purse,” they happily explain. Shelby prefers to accessorize with dainty gold jewelry, a belt and sometimes a trucker hat for a fun, casual look, while Kelly leans towards chunky necklaces and statement rings. “Accessorizing is unique to every woman. It’s all about what feels comfortable to you! We always say to start off with finding your everyday jewelry and build from there.” Their new Gallatin location is an extension of their fashion expertise. “Our new location is more intimate! We aim to carry a more curated collection of items. Every detail was carefully designed, from the dressing rooms to even the posters on the wall.” Their vision behind the redesign and relocation was a testament to their passion for fashion. “The vision was Southern, but with a luxurious twist,” they share. “We wanted it to feel like our old location but redefined and more cohesive.” Honey + Suede is known for being more than a boutique—it’s a gathering place. Kelly and Shelby try to make a connection with everyone who walks through their doors. “Customer service is our number one priority. For us, it’s more than just cute clothing—it’s about building a community around freely expressing yourself through clothing and accessories. Whether you’re coming to simply look around, or you

need help with styling an outfit for a big life event, we take pride in assisting you in finding the perfect wardrobe.” This is truly a dream come true and an answered prayer for them both. From building relationships and forming connections to helping women find their style, there are countless reasons why they love what they do. Honey + Suede just celebrated its fifth anniversary in July, and it has beautifully evolved since day one, while still maintaining its character. “The joy of fashion is what inspired us to open Honey + Suede,” they proclaim. “We were seeing women buy clothing just to have something to wear and struggling to shop in a sustainable way. Our goal is to help women find their style and pieces that they love that are high quality, won’t break the bank or sit in their closets never worn.” Kelly and Shelby are always looking for ways to keep the boutique fresh and exciting season after season while staying true to their brand. “We are always pushing ourselves to find new vendors, be more creative and build on what we

Not only is it fulfilling, but it truly has shaped Honey + Suede’s journey. “We have fallen in love with the Gallatin community! From day one, we have been welcomed

Step inside the newly reimagined Binkley Nash Furniture & Design showroom, and you’ll feel it— this isn’t just a place to shop, it’s a place to feel at home. Thoughtfully layered textures, intentional vignettes and beautifully curated details invite you to linger, dream and discover. Every corner is designed with purpose, where style meets soul and inspiration lives in the details. That’s exactly what owner and lead designer, Ashlee Nash, envisioned when she took the reins of the Gallatin legacy business a decade ago—and it’s a vision that continues to evolve with heart, intention and a deep love for design. Originally founded in 1968 as Binkley Furniture House, the brand has long been known for quality and craftsmanship. When Ashlee purchased the business at just 26 years old, she stepped into those shoes with humility, energy and a love for meaningful design. “I saw a chance to honor a long-standing legacy while infusing it with new energy,” she shares. Today, Binkley Nash is more than a furniture store. It’s a full-service design studio offering curated pieces, personalized guidance and whole-home solutions tailored to each client’s lifestyle. From custom upholstery to hand-selected accessories, every detail is chosen with intention. The newly redesigned showroom reflects that shift. “It represents where we’re going—layered, elevated and personal. We’ve evolved into not just a furniture store but a full-service design studio. The new space mirrors that by showing more custom options, more design details and a bigger emphasis on whole-home solutions.”

Design trends have shifted dramatically over the decades, from matchy-matchy sets to layered, character-rich spaces that reflect personality and purpose. “What excites me most right now,” says Ashlee, “is the mix of textures, bold personalization and the focus on meaningful design—homes that feel lived-in, not just styled.” At Binkley Nash, every space starts with a timeless foundation—classic silhouettes, neutral palettes and quality craftsmanship—then layered with trend-forward accents to keep it feeling fresh and current. “Whether it’s a statement lamp or
an updated fabric, it’s all about balance between staying current and never feeling dated,” she explains. Over the past ten years, Ashlee has navigated the ups and downs of business ownership, from economic shifts to the ever-changing design world. Through it all, she’s stayed rooted in intuition, community and a commitment to her clients. “I’m most proud of the relationships we’ve built—with clients, within the community and among our team. Watching a vision come to life and knowing we’ve helped people love their homes—it’s the best feeling.” As Binkley Nash continues to grow, Ashlee is focused on the future—with fresh ideas, new energy and a deep respect for the legacy she’s carrying forward. With each space she touches, she’s not just designing homes—she’s helping shape the way people live in them. Binkley Nash Furniture & Design 224 N Locust Avenue, Gallatin binkleynash.com

Green Dre ams How Earth First Plant Co. Is Redef ining Home Design
ARTICLE BY RENEE DONNELL | PHOTOGRAPHY BY TASHA SCHALK

D E C OR T R E N D S | HO M E + D E SIGN
Nestled between style and sustainability, Earth First Plant Co. in downtown Gallatin is more than just a plant shop—it’s a thoughtfully curated destination for greenery, vintage home goods and unique clothing. Known for their deep-rooted expertise in plant life, the team at Earth First helps customers transform any space with vibrancy and beauty. With each leafy addition, Earth First shows how plants not only elevate your space aesthetically but also promote a sense of calm, creativity and connection to nature. To Lauren and Emma, Earth First’s owners, plants are essential in interior design. They bring life and authenticity to any space and allow you to choose different plants to better suit your personal design style. When it comes to beginners, Lauren and Emma are full of tips and suggestions for incorporating greenery into your space. “Start small—and I don’t mean the plant size, but the quantity. People who grow their collection super fast often can’t keep up with the maintenance of them long-term.” If you’re new to houseplants entirely, start with the easy ones! “We both LOVE the Dracaena Marginata plant. It can grow in such fun and funky ways, and it’s beginner-friendly,” they both share. In addition to expert tips for beginners, Lauren and Emma are a fountain of knowledge when it comes to plants of all kinds. “A few of our favorite low-maintenance plants that still make a big design impact are ZZ plants, Snake plants and Pothos. From glossy leaves requiring low light and once-a-month watering, to tall, slender and chic leaves that release oxygen 24/7, ZZ and Snake plants are easy ways to elevate your space. Pothos is the vine that keeps on giving! These lush vines help to fill bare spaces in your home, and they will acclimate just about anywhere you put them!” Lauren and Emma are also aware of common mistakes people make when decorating with plants. Choosing plants based on aesthetics rather than considering their care needs is very common. “I’ve been guilty of this myself,” says Lauren. “However, plants will always thrive when you choose a location that most closely mimics their conditions in nature.”

While lush and beautiful greenery adds visual appeal to any space, the true magic of houseplants is their ability to organically improve our mental and physical health. “Dracaenas remove benzene and trichloroethylene, while palms effectively tackle ammonia, common indoor pollutants lurking in our furniture, cleaning products and building materials.” In addition, simply being around greenery lowers cortisol levels, reduces anxiety and improves concentration. Earth First is known for its greenery, but they also offer vintage home goods and clothing. “This combination is a reflection of our shared passions and a big part of our sustainability efforts. I want the shop to feel like stepping into a space that’s full of personality and inspiration where anyone can find something they’ll love,” says Emma. “To us, plants, home goods and fashion are all part of the same story—how we express ourselves. When you buy any of these, you’re curating a vibe that reflects your personality, values and lifestyle. It truly feels like an honor to help people find pieces and plants that make their everyday spaces feel more special. We want Earth First to be known not just for beautiful plants and vintage, but for helping people live a greener, more mindful lifestyle.”

H OM E U P DAT E | HO M E + D E SIGN
Since the dawn of time, the concepts of home and family have been intertwined. Families need the centering that homes can provide, and homes are just hollow structures without families to fill them with love and joy. Just as families grow and change, so do trends behind home styling. Looks and features that were commonplace just a few years ago often begin to look old and dated as new designs come along. Two of the most important of elements of home style are windows and doors. The right combination of doors and windows can enhance homeowner enjoyment while simultaneously elevating the curb appeal and resale value of every property. When choosing new or replacement doors and windows, it is essential to choose a vendor who understands the desires and the budget of the homeowner. Usually, the best option is to work with a local company. Fortunately, Middle Tennessee is blessed with such a firm – Pella Windows & Doors of Nashville. Pella is one of the most respected companies in the windows and doors business, celebrating its 100th year in business during 2025. Pella Windows & Doors of Nashville has been around for over 50 years, and it has been owned by Ben Talbot and his family for over six years. “I’ve always loved the construction industry, and I always knew that Pella is one of the most recognized brands in the window and
door industry,” says Ben. “I joined the company in 2004, and over the years I spent time in both operations and sales and developed a great appreciation for all aspects of the customer experience. I became the general manager in 2010, and I had the opportunity to purchase the company in 2019.” Pella is capable of handling new construction and upgrades for all types of structures, from residences to commercial buildings. Their products are at the forefront of the construction industry, featuring timeless and modern designs, energy efficiency and long-term durability. “We specialize in high-end window and door solutions for both new construction and replacement projects,” says Ben. “Our services include design consultation, product selection and professional installation. multifamily or commercial development or a custom new build, we have products and services for every application.” One unique aspect of Pella’s operation is its personal approach toward working with customers. From the moment they walk into the showroom doors, they are guided through a collaborative process to ensure that their dreams are achieved. “We start by understanding the customer’s vision, needs and budget,” says Ben. “From there, we walk them through product options, provide them with detailed
quotes and coordinate the project with our fulfillment teams. Once everything is approved, we schedule installation with our trusted crews, ensuring constant communication and quality control throughout the process.” Pella’s internal design team keeps a constant watch on emerging design trends and materials to ensure that every customer has access to the latest in door and window technologies. From traditional windows and doors to fully automated solutions, the Pella team can deliver. “In 2025, large expanses of glass and minimal frames are in high demand – especially for homeowners wanting to blend indoor and outdoor living,” says Ben. “There is also a growing interest in energy-efficient glass, smart home integration and security features built into doors and windows.”
Along with its dedication to customer satisfaction, the Pella Windows & Doors of Nashville team is also committed to the pursuit of a higher calling – taking care of people “While we’re known for selling windows and doors, we believe our greater purpose is serving people,” says Ben. “Internally, we’ve invested in a full-time wellness coach to support the well-being of our team. Investing in Your Wardrobe Without Compromising Your Style ARTICLE BY LISA WOLF

IT’S POSSIBLE TO SHOW YOUR UNIQUE STYLE WITH NICE CLOTHES WHILE ALSO STRETCHING YOUR DOLLAR One’s wardrobe says a lot about a person and it is important to dress to the occasion whether it be work or play while still expressing yourself. Building a wardrobe can be a costly expense but it’s possible to show your unique style with nice clothes while also stretching your dollar.
A FUN, SUSTAINABLE WAY TO BUILD A HIGH-QUALITY AND STYLISH WARDROBE Second-hand and vintage-style clothes are a fun, sustainable way to build a high-quality and stylish wardrobe without breaking the bank. Buying handmade and second-hand also reduces the demand for new clothing production, which helps reduce waste and the environmental impact of the fashion industry.
SOME PIECES ARE SIMPLY BETTER WHEN THEY ARE SECOND-HAND Some pieces are simply better when they are second-hand like worn denim and lived-in boots or leather that’s softened over time. Get creative and add touches to your old favorites with patches, embroidery, and even natural flower colors transferred to fabric. Grab your old t-shirts, family vintage fabrics, or lace, and pull it all together into something new and memorable.
IT WAS SO PERFECTLY HER AND ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS My sister, Haley, used an 1800s petticoat and blouse, salvaged Edwardian style Christening gowns and a tablecloth, and other fabrics to create the most amazing vintage-style wedding dress. It was so perfectly her and absolutely gorgeous.
SIMPLE, WILD, CLASSIC, COLORFUL; DON’T BE AFRAID TO SHOW YOUR STYLE The best way to keep your wardrobe fresh is to look for either trendy or classic new pieces and match them with your favorite vintage or second-hand pieces, like a new dress with your grandma’s old leather jacket or a recently purchased foundation piece with a skirt made from vintage fabrics. Simple, wild, classic, colorful; don’t be afraid to show your style and your financial fashion savvy at the same time.
