As summer begins to wind down and the start of school commences, the carefree days of slower morning routines and spending more time adventuring is exchanged for busier school and sport routines and schedules. The summers tend to progressively feel like they fly by the older we get, as do the years, but the simple pleasures of summer never get old. Although the routine of school for our children is often a welcome friend by the time August rolls around, it is generally a little bittersweet. Our August issue is dedicated to the cutest members of our community— our kids and pets! They both have a way of making us feel special and their loyalty and sense of wonder is refreshing. As summer comes to a close, we hope you are able to take some time to relax and spend time with the ones you love!

G N I N I A R T DOG WITH A P U R P O S E Whether it’s nature adventures, public events, or simple walks around the neighborhood, many dog owners don’t realize that teaching obedience behaviors is only a small portion of what goes into training a dog for the real world. Relationship and Play make up the foundation of our training program. Our primary goal is to help owners understand their dog’s biological needs and genetic tendencies and to educate them on how to motivate and mold each individual dog into the best versions of themselves. ADVENTURES ARE MEANT TO BE SHARED ADVENTURE CANINE TRAINING CONTINUES TO IMPRESS AND INSPIRE

Adventure Canine Training was built on creating a dynamic and fun-filled life for both dogs and their owners. Rather than just teaching tricks or exclusively general obedience, ACT bridges the gap and focuses on the experience for both human and canine! When Brooke O’Brien, owner of Adventure Canine Training, was in college the love of going on adventures together with her dogs inspired her to learn more about training principles and canine psychology, physiology and behavior modification. Through these studied principles, Brooke’s approach to training on a deeper level and helping her clients connect with their dogs while sharing adventures together is her main objective and highest purpose.

Brooke’s unique training method can be adjusted to train any dog based on their needs, history and biology. “We utilize the right tools and tactics for the dog, we don’t just stick to one training methodology. We strive to bring out the dog’s willingness to obey without being bribed or manipulated by food. The goal is to send dogs home happy and willing to work with their owners without the need of a treat bag attached to a hip,” says Brooke. Through constant training, Brooke prefers to have her team learn from proven trainers rather than to seek out online certifications. Dog training certifications are not all created equally. One certification course Brooke is extremely proud of is Ivan Balabanov’s Training Without Conflict program. Ivan is a two-time world champion dog trainer with decades of experience ranging from service dogs, pet dogs and protection dogs. In addition to this course, Brooke and her team of trainers, Sophia and Cayla, have traveled across the United States to attend seminars and other educational programs led by trusted, professional dog trainers in the space. As for boarding, Booke offers “Board and Train” programs as well as regular boarding for their graduates. Consistency and unwavering followthrough are extremely important, especially when breaking bad habits or setting new ones. During the board and train, 100% focus is given through all hours of the day to the extraordinary level of consistency that’s required for success. By the end of board and train, these habit changes have already taken shape so now it becomes more about maintenance. During board and train, Brooke trains the dogs outside of her facility whether it’s on hiking trails, downtown Gallatin, parks, pet-friendly stores, the Parthenon, or other local landmarks. Brooke’s mindset is adventures are meant to be shared with your dog and she and her team are able to spend the time necessary to create meaningful change!

In addition to running Adventure Canine Training, Brooke and her team spend countless hours training their personal dogs. “Our dogs have competed in a variety of dog sports including agility trials, hunt tests, obedience trials, dock diving and more,” says Brooke. Several ACT-trained dogs have starred in national commercials for Pittsburgh Paints, Harry and David and Tevra Pet. Four of ACT’s dogs were featured in Maddie and Tae’s award-winning music video for Woman You Got! Training is a long-term and dynamic process. “We will without a doubt send you home with a smarter, more confident and more competent dog, but you will also be equipped to continue the work with your dog over the long term,” Brooke says. Her most successful clients are those that take what is taught for the foundation to be set and keep moving forward after ending the program. Brooke and her team are extremely passionate dog owners who love a good adventure!

For CheerVille Gallatin owners Jamie Byrd, BJ Lindenberger and longtime Sumner County resident Katie Lindsey, CheerVille Gallatin was created for just that purpose and as a place for fun, growth and learning, simultaneously. CheerVille has racked up some amazing local and national accolades. This past season, CheerVille’s Level 6 Limited XSmall Coed team, Anarchy, won gold at The USASF Cheerleading World Championships. With this achievement, Anarchy became the first Tennessee team to win the championship. In addition, CheerVille’s Phantom out of Mt. Juliet received gold and Bellatrix out of Hendersonville and Mafia out of Mt. Juliet received silver at The Cheerleading Summit. CheerVille recently launched two new programs geared towards younger athletes. Flips! preschool tumbling (ages 18 months to five years) encourages the development of early motor skills and teaches the building blocks of tumbling. The second program is for beginner athletes with the novice cheerleading program (ages three and up) to learn the love of cheerleading without the long-term commitment. CheerVille has a long history of working hand in hand with local school programs and focuses on all aspects of traditional school and recreational training, including competition cheerleading, gameday routines, sideline cheers and more. The relationships built with local schools while working together are a true compliment on both sides of the mat. CheerVille is also developing a stunt and acrobatics program and is currently constructing a new, custom-built, facility in Hendersonville to work alongside Gallatin’s existing location to house athletes from all over Sumner County (completion, Spring 2023). In addition to elite training and competition programs, CheerVille’s Party Place has quickly become the perfect birthday party location. With a full-sized bounce house, spring floors, pits and trampolines, CheerVille ensures every child’s birthday is the most exciting day of the year and exists as a safe space for events for just that! The Goddard name is synonymous with educational success. Entrepreneur Anthony A. Martino established The Goddard School in 1988 with a mission to offer a high-quality, play-based, learning program to families across the United States. Serving more than 70,000 students from six weeks to six years in over 560 schools, in 38 states, still, 34 years later Mr. Martino’s mission holds true and Goddard continues to exceed expectations in early education. In our area, we are fortunate to have two premier Goddard locations that truly are making the grade and making a difference. The Goddard Schools in Hendersonville and Gallatin are shining stars in our community. For Dave and Kara Brumley, their story and calling begins and ends with serving the community and making an impact in the lives of our local children. With a Master’s Degree in Child Development and over 20 years in educational leadership, Kara progressed through different management and consulting roles with various nonprofits and larger corporations around the country and Dave was in engineering sales. Having moved to Middle Tennessee 15 years ago for Dave’s job, a few years after arriving, Dave and Kara were expecting twins and Kara left the corporate world to run her own small business. Through this venture, Kara met Leisa Byars, who opened the Goddard School of Hendersonville in 2010.

Kara joined the Goddard team in Hendersonville as a Director there and fell in love with the community that was growing and focused on the developmental goals of the children. A few years later, Dave and Kara themselves opened the Goddard Gallatin location with the same passion and desire to make a difference in early childhood education in our local area. Since then, and with Kara operating the Gallatin location, Dave left his successful engineering sales career after 20 years and is now the onsite owner at the Hendersonville location. “Because we believe in this business and our community so much, we are all in,” Kara says. For Dave and Kara, it’s about turning everyday encounters into teachable moments, allowing children’s interests to influence their learning experiences by balancing academic, mental, physical and social-emotional growth. “We are dedicated to quality in everything we do. From education to health, safety, community, facilities–we never cut corners,” says Kara. “We recruit educated and experienced teachers who love children and train them on Goddard’s F.L.E.X. framework for education.” From infant to kindergarten readiness, dedication and partnering with parents in their child’s early education journey is of paramount importance. Goddard offers both full-time and parttime programs for families who are looking for a stronger educational focus. Outside of Goddard’s umbrella curriculum, several enrichment programs are implemented and used on a daily basis by the teachers. Some of the programs included in this curriculum are sign language and yoga classes. This fall, Goddard will be adding an Enrichment Teacher who specializes in enrichment STEM, Spanish, music and chess activities, as well as focusing on various library activities. All of these programs will be included as a focus for all Goddard students. Goddard schools have garnered plenty of awards and recognition. Their programs have earned the Cognia Accreditation and Partnership for 21st Century Learning, a Network of Battelle for Kids for creating policies, programs and standards that help franchised locations meet high standards in early learning, child development and childcare. These awards and recognitions are well-deserved as Dave, Kara and their team ensures programs, partnerships and

community involvement are at the forefront when it comes to the curriculum and continuation of childhood development and parent engagement. Opening just five months before the pandemic, and being able to successfully navigate a new business through it, the experience for Dave and Kara has been truly fulfilling. In 2019 when Goddard Gallatin opened, it was one of the largest openings in the country and has been growing steadily since, adding capabilities and programs. “We are working to add an outdoor classroom on our campus. It’s going to be an amazing space for our students to learn and grow,” says Kara. Relationships continue to grow and flourish once a child has graduated from Goddard with Kindergarten Information Night every fall to aid in the smooth transition into elementary school by making sure there are necessary resources for parents by sponsoring several Parent Teacher Organization events. Parents truly do love Goddard’s leadership team and community involvement. Dave and Kara live in Sumner County and have readily immersed themselves in the community with their family and love for what they do.

Dave and Kara are Partner Members with the Gallatin Chamber. Kara graduated from Leadership Gallatin in 2021 and is a board member for Sumner County CASA. Some of the local charities they regularly support include Sumner County Food Bank, Gallatin Police Department Shop-with-a-Cop, United Way of Sumner County, Sumner County Schools and The Samaritan Center. Their dedication to supporting Gallatin is a true testament to their love for this city, the personal connections made and how that fits into the Goddard community and framework. The relationships built is what attracts families to Goddard and giving parents peace of mind knowing their children are in the hands of those they know and trust is paramount to the overall success and mission of Goddard!

For Tom and Valerie Kauffman, the ultimate dream for their family became a reality shortly after relocating to Middle Tennessee from Pennsylvania in 2017. Previously, Tom had worked for an Amish swing set manufacturer in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. When Tom, Valerie and their growing family moved to Lebanon, Tom quickly saw a need for families in the area to have access to the same type of family and outdoor-oriented equipment that wasn’t necessarily or readily available in the area. Kauffman Farms was started in January 2020 to fill just that need. Kauffman Farms began providing high-quality, vinyl swing sets and poly, outdoor furniture to families in Middle Tennessee. While starting a business in the middle of a pandemic posed its own set of challenges, an unexpected benefit to their timing saw great growth as more and more families sought out ways to outfit their homes and recreation areas with quality outdoor equipment, as staying home became the norm during 2020 and into 2021. Outdoor furniture, play areas and swing sets quickly became a popular way to spend more time outdoors when other areas were still shut down during the pandemic. Even now, and after more families discovered (or rediscovered)

ways to spend quality time outdoors and at home, Kauffman Farms has seen great growth in services and the equipment they are able to provide. Reflecting back to Tom and Valerie’s first three years in Tennessee, Tom managed the retail lot in Lebanon while Valerie homeschooled their three children. Their desire and dreams were to live a self-sustaining life by raising their own animals and growing their own food on their homestead. They bought a fixer-upper home on a 12-acre farm to do just that. Now, focusing on growing Kauffman Farms full time, and raising five beautiful children with their sixth on the way, Kauffman Farms is a true family-owned and operated business. Currently, Tom and Valerie have in the works a showroom and office space that is being built on their property to display their top-of-the-line furniture and swing sets in an indoor setting.

Looking toward the future, Tom and Valerie aspire to further their connection to the area by holding community events, open houses, birthday parties and even desire to have a free playground, petting zoo and other opportunities for fun for the community on their property. “It is a passion and our pleasure to have products that bring families and friends together, creating memories for a lifetime,” says Tom.
