Summer is the perfect time to come up with a bucket list of activities to enjoy and ways to unwind and relax. Some of the best summers spent are often not filled with constant activities and trips, but are those that reflect a slower pace and the simple moments of enjoying those around us. While the “lazy days of summer” aren’t always something we can attain with our packed schedules, it is so refreshing to take some time to slow down and enjoy some of the simple pleasures that remind us of our own childhoods. Some of the best times spent can be a backyard barbecue with friends, making s’mores by a fire pit, spending a day on Old Hickory Lake, eating ice-cream on a hot summer day, or simply taking in the night sky with someone you love under the stars down that dirt road. In this month’s issue we tell the unique stories of a few local businesses and show you a few places and ideas of how to spend your summer days with those you care about while you’re out and about, exploring this great city. Fitness is more than weights and equipment. Fitness is a way of life and encompasses mind, body, spirit for the whole family and is a true community. Josh and Jennifer Peyton, owners of Fitness 1440, designed and crafted their gym, classes and amenities to be just that. Opening a business can come with ups and downs and for Fitness 1440 opening in 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic, they faced their share of challenges, as well. Since that time, Fitness 1440 has continued to be a leader in Gallatin’s fitness space and just celebrated their second anniversary on July 1st. Opening in the middle of a pandemic wasn’t ideal but with the support and patience of the community and its members, growth has been a continual driver and inspiration for continued success. “As with anything in today’s society, environment and customer service tend to be the driving force behind any successful business and the fitness industry is no different,” Jennifer expressed. Keeping up with newer equipment that’s offered and being able

to adapt to new classes and experiences is what Josh and Jennifer strive for, keeping their members in mind first and foremost. Community involvement has been, and will continue to be, a strong foundation and principle for Fitness 1440. “We truly love being a part of the Gallatin community and being a family-oriented facility. We are always looking for ways to give back whether it’s supporting local sports and school teams, events with the Gallatin Chamber or other fundraising efforts. It’s important for us to give back to the community who helps us continue to thrive and grow,” says Jennifer. A few organizations close to Fitness 1440’s heart are The Murph Challenge, 9/11 Stair Climb Challenge, Toys for Tots and The Salvation Army Angel Tree Program. As a premier fitness facility in Gallatin, and with 24-hour access for members, Fitness 1440’s offering of classes and services has grown to include Zumba, HIIT, sculpting, kickboxing, over 10,000 square feet of cardio, weight equipment, machines

We’d love to be able to provide an outdoor fitness area and are actively looking at ways to achieve that!”

Skincare and overall wellness are two important areas that may not have always been thought of as relatable to each other. In the health and beauty world, traditionally providers (and patients as a result) would tend to focus on one over the other. However, as best practices change and the industry evolves, so do the methods, modalities and focuses of those leaders in the space. Hayley Sechler, owner of SKINriched Aesthetics + Wellness, is one of those local providers who has helped transform the traditional way of thinking to be able to form a complete and total lifestyle/wellness plan of action for her patients. “While working in traditional offices, I saw a disconnect and a gap in treatment methods. Patients would come in for a prescription but there was rarely any conversation regarding lifestyle, hormones, nutrition and stress,” recalls Hayley. She knew there had to be a better way to skincare and overall healthcare. Hayley is an Auburn graduate with her undergraduate degree in nutritional science. She completed her Master’s at the University of Kentucky while attending P.A. school. As a physician’s assistant, she returned to the area and put down roots with her husband (originally from White House) and knew there was a need in the area for a different approach to skincare. It was from there that SKINriched Aesthetics + Wellness was born. Taking a complete, holistic, whole body approach (rather than just treating a symptom) is where her passion lies. Hayley says, “when you come see me, your treatment is more than just a prescription. It’s looking at your skincare concerns from all angles.” Looking into and analyzing someone’s lifestyle, diet, exercise, stress and hormones play an important role. CONTINUED >

Understanding those initial factors is the first step to helping Hayley develop a plan for her patients. Another benefit to Hayley’s whole body and tailored approach is that in addition to offering traditional skin care treatments, injectables and product lines, she uses her training and expertise to develop and formulate her own skincare products based on needs and best practices for her patients. Hayley describes her process for product development: “First, I want to make sure the science and efficacy is there for a product and ingredient list. Second, I try to keep things reasonably priced so you don’t have to stress about having an effective skincare lineup. Third, cutting out the unnecessary fillers and fragrances to prevent irritation. And, fourth is patient feedback, as I try to make sure whoever is using my products is seeing results and loving it!” SKINriched prides itself on striking that perfect balance between cosmetic dermatology, aesthetics and total body wellness and everyone’s journey is different. For Hayley, finding that balance and seeing personalized results makes her own journey and the opening of SKINriched totally worth it. She says, “my absolute favorite is hearing from a patient that they’re loving their results and have found their confidence again. That means so much to me!” In business, making a difference and seeing growth is great confirmation that what you are doing is working and for SKINriched, it’s no exception. What’s on the horizon? “We have some very exciting things planned for the future! New treatments, additional skincare products and plans to expand our team and location soon—stay tuned,” says Hayley. Cosmetic dermatology, aesthetics and total body wellness are all difficult pillars to master. But, for Hayley and SKINriched, a harmonious balance between all three has been struck and the personalized impact on individualized care is a unique and beautiful thing.

HIDDEN GEMS: TENNESSEE WATE RFALLS

Day drives and escapes show off Tennessee's unmatched beauty Tennessee may be a landlocked state, but that doesn’t mean it’s been neglected by Mother Nature. The natural rolling hills, plateaus and mountainous areas, combined with an abundance of above and below ground waterways, is the the perfect recipe for some of the most breathtaking waterfalls in the country. There are several waterfalls in Tennessee, many around Gallatin within a few hours drive. A vast majority of waterfalls are small or on private property, but more than 80 are in Tennessee State Parks! During summer months, you may even find waterfalls atop swimming holes and soaking pools. During the colder months, you may find some amazing waterfall ice sculptures. Here’s a list of a few of our amazing and mesmerizing cascades of water sure to evoke a sense of wonder in any season and for anyone wishing to explore some unique Tennessee beauty up close and personal!

Fall Creek Falls Starting at the literal top of our list is Fall Creek Falls. Fall Creek Falls is the tallest waterfall in Tennessee and is said to be one of the highest waterfalls east of the Mississippi River at 256 feet. Near Spencer, Tennessee, Fall Creek Falls State Park contains other noteworthy waterfalls including Coon Creek Falls, Rockhouse Falls and Cane Creek Falls.

While admiring the breathtaking scenery of other small waterfalls, lush greenery, creek beds and wildlife along the way, you’ll reach Machine Falls on your 1.6mile long hike. At 60 feet tall, Machine Falls cascades down a rocky face to a gorgeous shallow pool full of rock formations that catch eyes with colorful lichen all over them. The falls are located in the Short Springs area of Coffee County and is also one of the very best spring wildflower locations in Tennessee.

If you're looking to get up close and personal with a waterfall then Cummins Falls is where you want to be! Cummins Falls, outside of Cookeville, features a picturesque swimming hole below its 75-foot drop. Despite a rugged 2-mile hike to reach the falls, it’s a popular destination and can attract hundreds of visitors in a single hot summer day as visitors look to cool off after a hike. Cummins Falls is Tennessee’s eighth largest waterfall.

Head just over an hour east of Gallatin and after a bit more difficult hike, you’ll be rewarded with views of some of the most dramatic cascades in Tennessee. Located on Falling Water River at Burgess Falls State Park, a series of four waterfalls cascade down from over 250 feet in elevation plunging more than 130 feet into the gorge. Breathtaking is an understatement especially on the perfect sunny day where the cascading water offers a great chance to see that always elusive rainbow when the conditions are perfect.

What started as a prayer, now a reality, Studio 1:9 Salon has quickly branded itself as not just a wellknown, trendsetting salon in Gallatin, but also as a place for people from all walks of life to come together. WHAT ARE SOME CURRENT TRENDS YOU ARE SEEING IN THE INDUSTRY?

HOW DID STUDIO 1:9 GET ITS START AND WHAT WAS THE INSPIRATION BEHIND THE NAME?

We are one of the few salons in the area that offers hand-tied extensions and Brazilian blowouts. Most of our stylists are certified in different brands so we can accommodate any hair type/texture.

Opening a salon was never something I wanted, but the Lord laid it on my heart and I had to listen. Our name comes from a Bible verse that has changed my life: “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous, do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you, wherever you go” (Joshua 1:9).

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE PART ABOUT WHAT YOU DO? The relationships! Although I love doing hair and making people feel beautiful, I believe beauty starts within. I love walking through life with my clients; I tell each of them I love them when they walk out the door, because it is true with every word!

Trends change so often, but it’s also fun to see past trends come back in style! The perm is a big one! It’s also super fun to see clients dancing in our lobby and then seeing the finished product later go viral on Tik Tok!

Sumner Regional Medical Center hosted an open house and reception to recognize their team of dedicated providers and specialized clinical areas of their outpatient wound care clinic after being nationally recognized as a Center of Distinction by Healogics--a network of over 600 care centers providing specialized wound care to patients across the country. The Gallatin center was recognized for achieving outstanding clinical outcomes for twelve consecutive months, including a patient satisfaction rate higher than 92%.

In attendance was Gallatin resident, Leisa Mann, who, under the care of the clinic team following a foot injury, received a graft, hours of hyperbaric oxygen therapy and specialized care in which the clinic team was able to save her foot and help her regain function. “This is the fourth year in a row that the center has been recognized as a Center of Distinction,” says Dr. Brandon Mewbourne, general surgeon and medical director for the program. “We all come to work wanting to do excellent patient care and put our patients first; this is a validation of the efforts.”
