LIFESTYLE LETTER

Finding Joy in the Detour We’re proud to present the very first issue of Gaithersburg Lifestyle—a celebration of community, curiosity, and connection. We live in an age obsessed with efficiency and productivity. And I’ll be the first to admit—I fall into that trap too. The one that tells us the only things worth doing are those we can measure, control, and predict. That if we can’t quantify the return, maybe it’s not worth the effort. But that’s not living. At least, not the kind of life I want to lead—or encourage others to live. Some of the most meaningful moments happen in the in-between. The unstructured. The open-ended. The times when we allow ourselves to explore, to try something new, to wander off the map. That’s where connection happens—where trust is built and where memories take root. I remember getting lost once with my family on what was supposed to be a quick trail walk. We turned left when we should’ve gone right, and for an hour we were off course—laughing, improvising, and learning more about each other than we would have on the path we planned to take. It reminded me that adventure doesn’t have to be grand to be transformative. Over the past few months, I’ve been thinking a lot about how our family spends time together. Like many, we’ve realized what we don’t love: too much screen time. Maybe for your family it’s over-packed schedules or not enough shared meals. But what we’ve discovered is that exploration can be simple—a board game on the patio, a walk on a new trail, or a mission to find the best cookie in an unfamiliar part of town. The point isn’t the destination. It’s the intention. As we launch this very first issue of Gaithersburg Lifestyle, our hope is that it invites you to do the same: make room for curiosity, for joy, for moments that aren’t perfectly planned. Lose yourself in a trail or in a good story. Say yes to that road trip you’ve been postponing. And most importantly, carve out time for the people and passions that matter most. We also want to extend our heartfelt thanks to the local businesses and partners who made this inaugural issue possible. Your support is a testament to the strength of community and the power of collaboration. We’re honored to walk alongside you as neighbors and partners in celebrating all that makes Gaithersburg shine. Here’s to exploring more, together. Rio Lakefront has developed its position as Gaithersburg's favorite community gathering spot since its early days. This familiar shopping center underwent a $30 million renovation to become a new year-round destination which unites fresh energy with familiar charm. Today, it’s Gaithersburg’s leading choice for community entertainment by offering its vibrant boardwalk and lakeside dining with active local events. Rio remains an integral part of the community yet its recent makeover provides more than superficial changes. The center features carefully selected new restaurants and unique attractions which give fresh energy to its traditional lakeside atmosphere. The French-Asian bakery Tous les Jours joins the Rio family as its newest addition to offer popular French-Asian pastries and expertly brewed coffee. Han Spot presents authentic Chinese cuisine, serving Peking duck and delicate dim sum that satisfy foodies in the surrounding area. Mason’s Famous Lobster Rolls delivers East Coast-style seafood flavors from Maine to Rio Lakefront where it has gained popularity among locals. The Lake House at Copper Canyon represents Rio’s most recognizable transformation because it provides dining on a floating barge with unmatched lake views and peaceful surroundings. Guests can experience dining while floating on the lake's surface at this unique eating establishment. The forthcoming arrival of Koi Sushi will bring fresh rolls along with authentic Japanese small plates to enrich Rio's dining options for the future.

Rio has introduced creative and community-focused initiatives throughout its facilities. Locally Crafted, for example, offers a versatile space that welcomes DIY classes as well as private events and showcases artwork from local creators. The lakefront dining area and leisure facilities at Rio create a perfect blend that allows food and community fun to flow naturally. Rio's revitalization presents an innovative approach which combines cutting-edge concepts with established neighborhood favorites like Target and AMC. The $30 million upgrade at Rio goes beyond cosmetic changes. The center maintains a perfect mix of well-known retailers Target and AMC alongside unique boutiques and family entertainment facilities while preserving its welcoming atmosphere for the community. The beautiful lakeside location stands as the defining characteristic that separates Rio from other destinations. A nine-acre Washingtonian Lake serves as the central point of the center while a walking trail with fountains and seating areas and greenery surrounds it. Paddle boat rentals combined with a vintage carousel create a nostalgic and enjoyable experience that appeals to people of every age group. The area stays active throughout all seasons at Rio. The community unites to enjoy Lakefront Live concerts on Summer Fridays which transform

the lawn into a musical celebration. During winter the boardwalk turns into a magical winter wonderland that features festive markets alongside holiday lights. The community stays active throughout the year through regular events that include movie nights as well as family festivals and cultural celebrations. The four Marriott hotels within the complex provide visitors with an easy opportunity to extend their stay. The nearby entertainment choices including Dave & Buster’s and Muse Paintbar and Red Door Escape Room ensure there is always something to do regardless of the season. Rio Lakefront demonstrates potential to elevate its standards through upcoming developments. The future addition of DICK’S House of Sport will arrive in 2026 to bring interactive features like indoor climbing and experiential retail that will draw more visitors who love sports and active activities to Rio. Rio extends a warm invitation to both frequent visitors and newcomers to experience the ultimate lakeside experience while spending time with loved ones in this vibrant community space. Rio Lakefront serves as Gaithersburg's community center by bringing together vibrant energy with welcoming spaces that beautifully unite lifestyle and community spirit.

“This isn’t just shopping—Rio is where the community comes to life.”

For the discerning traveler with a taste for world-class music and refined coastal experiences, two standout festivals on the Eastern Seaboard have emerged as essential entries on any cultural bucket list. Set against stunning waterfront backdrops and infused with elevated hospitality, Fort Lauderdale’s Tortuga Music Festival and Ocean City’s Boardwalk Rock Festival are more than just concerts, they are curated escapes where rhythm meets refinement. Each spring, the sun-drenched sands of Fort Lauderdale come alive with the sound of country, rock, and Americana during the Tortuga Music Festival. Celebrated the weekend of April 4–6, 2025, this three-day celebration was a harmonious blend of world-renowned performances and purposeful philanthropy. With headliners like Jelly Roll, Luke Combs, and Keith Urban, alongside genre-bending talents such as Megan Moroney, Shaboozey, and Ludacris, the festival delivered a vibrant, multi-genre experience. What sets Tortuga apart is its deep-rooted commitment to ocean conservation. Founded in partnership with the Rock the Ocean Foundation, the festival has raised over $4 million for marine science and sustainability initiatives. Guests can engage with over 30 organizations at the beachfront Conservation Village while enjoying a setting framed by Fort Lauderdale’s signature luxury. tortugamusicfestival.com Further up the coast, Ocean City, Maryland, introduced a new pinnacle of seaside sophistication with the debut of the Boardwalk Rock Festival on May 17–18, 2025. Produced

by C3 Presents, the powerhouse behind Lollapalooza, this two-day event unfolded across three stages and featured an electrifying lineup: Def Leppard, Alice in Chains, Nickelback, Shinedown, and more. The atmosphere blended iconic rock with upscale boardwalk nostalgia. Elevated culinary offerings, including gourmet vegan and gluten-free options, and whimsical touches like the on-site Jolly Roger amusement park added a playful, indulgent layer to the experience. VIPs enjoyed “Ultimate” passes with private golf carts, on-stage access, and bespoke festival gifts. boardwalkrockfest.com Whether you’re drawn by Tortuga’s philanthropic soul or Boardwalk Rock’s coastal glamour, both festivals offer unparalleled access to music, culture, and indulgence by the sea. GOINGRAZY DELIVERS FLAVOR, FUN, AND UNFORGETTABLE FEASTS When Nessa Puscas moved to Maryland in 2019 to marry her high school sweetheart, she didn’t just find love, she found a vibrant, welcoming community. And it didn’t take long for that community to fall in love right back. After the challenges of the pandemic, Nessa decided to turn her passion into purpose, launching a business built around joy, celebration, and, of course extraordinary food. The result? GoinGrazy, a luxury charcuterie and grazing table company that’s redefining the way the DMV entertains.

24

PA RT Y P LA N N IN G | EVENT PLAN N IN G + SE RVICE S

What began as a personal love for crafting beautiful boards for family and friends quickly blossomed into something much bigger. “I’ve always believed food brings people together,” says Nessa. “Hosting should feel like a celebration, not a chore. My mission is simple: to make both hosts and guests feel genuinely cared for with unforgettable spreads that taste as good as they look.” Born in Puerto Rico, raised in New Orleans, and later living in Miami and Jacksonville, Nessa brings a rich culinary heritage to every table she sets. From her stepfather’s soulful gumbo and red beans and rice to her aunt’s arroz con gandules, food has always been the heart of celebration in her family. “Making people feel special through food just came naturally,” she shares. That heartfelt intention is baked into every GoinGrazy creation. Whether it’s an elegant brunch display, an over-the-top grazing table, or a thoughtfully curated charcuterie box, every item is custom-made to suit the occasion and the people being celebrated. From small gatherings and team lunches to bridal showers, milestone birthdays, and corporate events, GoinGrazy offers a menu of wow-worthy options: • Elevated brunch spreads • Luxe charcuterie boards and boxes • Holiday-themed trays for Halloween (her most requested holiday!), Galentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, Christmas, and more • Customized grazing tables for everything from Super Bowl parties to baby showers • Bite-sized desserts and creative add-ons Recently, Nessa catered an elegant tea party complete with scones, delicate sandwiches, and dainty sweets. She’s also known for hosting her own annual Halloween bash, complete with spooky, Instagram-worthy food styling. And yes, she styles it all herself.

LOCAL, LOVINGLY SOURCED, AND ALWAYS CUSTOM

Nessa doesn’t believe in cutting corners. Sourcing locally whenever possible, she shops at up to six different stores and farmers markets to find just the right ingredients for each event. From rainbow carrots and purple cauliflower to duck prosciutto from MeatCrafters and gourmet cheese from Bethesda’s Farmers Market, her attention to detail is unmatched. She happily caters to a wide range of dietary preferences and cultural traditions from gluten-free and dairy-free trays to kosher-style offerings, vegetarian options, and international flavors. “One of my favorite parts of the job is getting to explore new cuisines,” Nessa says. “Right now, I’m experimenting with Indian-inspired desserts like pistachio cheesecake and cardamom cupcakes topped with rose ganache. It’s such a fun, delicious way to celebrate diversity.” And if pork isn’t an option for your guests? Not a problem. She’ll substitute with lamb, beef, chicken, duck, or even elk salami. Because no detail is too small when you’re crafting a table that’s meant to delight.

“

Making people feel special through food just came naturally. MORE THAN JUST FOOD: IT’S AN EXPERIENCE

GoinGrazy is more than a catering company, it’s a full experience. Nessa also offers small event planning and floral styling for a true one-stop shop. She frequently partners with other local, women-owned businesses and offers services for corporate events, including monthly employee appreciation breakfasts and team-building brunches. Her brunch spreads are a local favorite, featuring gourmet egg bites, artisanal French toast with seasonal flavors, fig pastries, and elaborate fruit displays. Her personal favorite? “Lemon blueberry cupcakes,” she says without hesitation. “Though each season brings a new obsession!” Looking to do more than just eat? GoinGrazy also offers charcuterie classes for private parties and corporate events. Nessa has taught classes at venues like Kentlands Mansion and led hands-on experiences for bridal showers, moms’ nights out, and office team-building sessions. It’s interactive, fun, and yes, you get to eat your art! Nessa also gives back to the community by supporting nonprofits like Tree House Child Advocacy Center in Gaithersburg and Story Tapestries Inc. in Poolesville. Whether you’re hosting a chic soirée, spoiling your team with a brunch they’ll actually talk about, or just want to wow your friends with a next-level grazing table, GoinGrazy brings the flavor, flair, and fun to the table. Because, as they say at GoinGrazy, life’s too short for boring food. For more information, or to start planning your next event, contact Nessa Puscas at (407)409-9719 or nessa@goingrazy.com JULY 2 0 2 5 | C I TYL I FE STYL E . C OM/GA IT HE R S BUR G

Here’s a recipe that balances the traditional lime and mint with the delicate aroma of rose. Ingredients: • 10 fresh mint leaves • 1 lime, cut into wedges • 2 tablespoons white sugar (or simple syrup, to taste) • 2 ounces white rum • 1 ounce rose water (adjust to taste, as it can be potent) • Club soda or sparkling water • Garnish: Mint sprigs, lime wedges, edible rose petals (optional)

Absolutely phenomenal, Catherine has been on top of it from the jump. During a time of high stress and anxiety, she made this experience VERY easy. I wish there was a Catherine in every state! Recommendation- We used Village Settlements in the selling of our home in Maryland. They were very professional and did an excellent job in processing the sale of our house.” PH: 301-590-9300 | www.krisslawatlantic.com 177 Kentlands Blvd, Suite 200 | Gaithersburg, MD 20878
