March is a season that naturally invites fresh ideas, and in Frisco, inspiration is never hard to find. From beautifully designed homes to the small details that make a space feel personal, how we live is often reflected in how we design. Our March Home & Design issue celebrates that connection and the people shaping the places we call home.

This month, we’re excited to feature Ceci Bates Custom Homes, known for creating homes that feel both timeless and livable. Their designs are thoughtful without feeling overdone, blending craftsmanship with comfort in a way that fits the Frisco lifestyle. These are homes designed to be lived in, gathered in, and enjoyed every day.
Design is also about the details, and sometimes the simplest updates can make the biggest difference. In Style Your Shelves, Humble Home Designs shares easy, approachable tips for styling shelves that feel curated but still personal. It’s proof that great design doesn’t have to be complicated to feel intentional. In Shades Plus Trends, Shades Plus shares the latest on window coverings for both inside and outside spaces.
This issue also marks a new beginning for me personally. I’m Barbara Ireland, and I’m thrilled to introduce myself as the new publisher of Frisco City Lifestyle Magazine in Meet The Publisher. Frisco’s energy, creativity, and sense of community are what drew me here, and I’m excited to share the stories that reflect the heart of this city. From homes and local businesses to the people behind them, there is so much worth celebrating.
As you turn the pages of our Home & Design issue, I hope you feel inspired to refresh your space, support local talent, and see Frisco through a new lens.
As always, thank you for reading and we'll see you around town!

Nestled in a newly developed office center along Highway 289 in Pottsboro, you will find the striking new headquarters of Ceci Bates Custom Homes and Remodeling. While a homebuilder’s office may not sound unusual in a small town, stepping through their doors immediately reveals

something extraordinary. Owners Tom Ceci and Scott Bates are proud to welcome visitors into a space designed to showcase their passion for design, craftsmanship, and innovation.
Many business owners enjoy talking about what they do, but few bring the level of passion Tom and Scott exude. With a combined 68 years of industry experience, the duo has developed a distinctive approach to homebuilding that is constantly evolving. After years of seeing the same cookie cutter homes dominate the market, they partnered in 1999 with a shared goal of building homes that are truly unique. As they often say, “We build outside the box.”
That philosophy becomes immediately apparent as you explore their showroom. The level of custom work on display was once reserved for big city design
and architectural firms. Today, Ceci Bates brings that same caliber of craftsmanship and creativity to Texoma, often surpassing what you might find in larger metropolitan markets. Seamless design and elegant functionality define their work, with rich hardwoods, luxurious fabrics and leather, and exquisite stone and granite blending effortlessly with cutting edge technology and modern architectural styles. Wondrous and inviting, the showroom is an experience in itself.
“We don’t get trapped in a particular style,” says Bates. “Tom and I have a weird soup of experiences, and we draw from all of them. We have learned a lot along the way, and learning can be tough. Early on, it sometimes felt like we got punched in the face. But those experiences shaped us and helped us build homes that are truly unique and tailored to each client.”

“Legacy matters to us. While we are a business, we want to be more than that. When people hear our name, we want them to think of what great partners we are.”

Ceci adds, “We don’t want to be just another builder. We are not just building houses. We are building community. Working with our customers is like working as a team. Scott and I feel like we are curating experiences alongside our clients.”
Beyond their own expertise, Ceci and Bates have assembled an exceptional team of professionals, including internationally recognized leaders in architecture and design. Most recently,
they partnered with renowned interior designer Heather Shields and internationally acclaimed architect Roberth Jordan, further expanding the company’s ability to deliver one of a kind custom homes.
“Service is tied to our reputation here,” Bates explains. “Legacy matters to us. While we are a business, we want to be more than that. When people hear our name, we want them to think of what great partners we are. We are also an employee owned company,

and everyone here plays a vital role in what we do. We want to live here, serve here, and grow here.”
Looking ahead, both owners are optimistic yet intentional about the future. “Our business is growing,” Bates says. “But quality is everything. We are very selective about the projects we take on because we never want to compromise our standards. What we do is about quality and the overall experience. It is a balancing act.”
Ceci agrees. “You can’t be everything, but we are very good at what we do, and you can see that in the homes we build. We are expanding slowly and on our own terms. While much of our work is around the lake with new developments, we are also beginning projects near Bois d’Arc Lake. We invite people to come by and see what we are creating.”

Creating A Warm, Collected Home With Design Expert
Trisha
Puente of Humble Home Designs
Shelves are more than functional storage, they’re a design opportunity. Whether you’re styling built-ins or open shelving, the right approach can transform them into a beautiful focal point. The secret lies in balance, layering, and a thoughtful mix of textures and personal touches.
Before you begin, clear everything off your shelves. Starting fresh allows you to see the space clearly and prevents visual clutter. Take note of shelf height, depth, and the room’s overall color palette so your styling feels cohesive.

Begin with larger items such as vases, baskets, framed art, or sculptural objects. These anchor pieces establish scale and keep shelves from feeling overly busy. Lean artwork or mirrors toward the back to add depth and structure.
Layering is key to creating dimension. Stack books horizontally and top them with a small object, then balance with something taller nearby. Varying heights and depths help guide the eye and give shelves a relaxed, collected feel.

A blend of textures makes shelves feel warm and intentional. Combine ceramic, wood, metal, glass, and woven elements to add contrast. If your shelves feel flat, introducing texture is often the quickest fix.
Choose a simple color story and repeat it throughout your shelves. Neutrals mixed with warm wood tones and subtle accents like black or brass create a calm, curated look. Limiting colors helps the display feel purposeful rather than cluttered.
Plants bring life and softness to shelves. Trailing greenery, small potted plants, or simple stems in a vase add movement and freshness. Faux options can work beautifully as long as they look realistic and understated.
Once everything is in place, step back and edit. Remove items that feel repetitive or unnecessary. Allow for negative space so each piece can stand out. Shelves should feel balanced, not packed.
The most beautiful shelves tell a story. Incorporate personal elements like favorite books, family photos, travel finds, or meaningful décor. These details give your shelves character and make them feel lived-in rather than styled for a showroom.
Shelf styling isn’t permanent. Refresh pieces seasonally, swap items between rooms, and enjoy the process. With thoughtful layering, texture, and personal touches, your shelves can become one of the most impactful design moments in your space.

Trisha Puente is a local interior designer and general contractor specializing in decorating and remodeling. Known for creating warm, inviting spaces with timeless appeal, she believes homes and workplaces should reflect the people who live and work in them, not a rulebook. Through thoughtful design and practical styling solutions, Trisha helps clients elevate everyday spaces in approachable, meaningful ways, blending function, comfort, and personal style.
Window treatments have evolved far beyond simple coverings, becoming a defining element in how spaces look, feel, and function. As homes and businesses increasingly prioritize comfort, efficiency, and cohesive design, window treatments now sit at the

Soft minimalism is taking center stage, favoring clean lines and refined simplicity over heavy ornamentation. Lightfiltering linen roller shades and tailored Roman shades are especially popular, offering a polished look that feels intentional without being fussy. These designs focus on effective light control while maintaining an airy, uncluttered aesthetic. Neutral tones, subtle textures, and precise tailoring create a sense of quiet luxury, making minimalist window treatments ideal for modern homes that value balance, functionality, and timeless style.
Layered window treatments are a top choice for homeowners seeking both flexibility and visual depth. By combining solar or sheer shades with woven or natural-texture Roman shades and finishing the look with drapery, you gain complete control over light and privacy. This approach works especially well in open-concept homes and rooms with large windows, allowing you to soften harsh daylight during peak hours and create a warm, inviting atmosphere in the evening with added texture and dimension.
intersection of style and performance. Light control, privacy, insulation, and aesthetic impact are no longer separate considerations. They work together to support the way people live and use their spaces every day. Looking ahead, 2026 trends reflect a clear shift toward intentional, multi-purpose solutions that enhance comfort, reduce energy use, and seamlessly tie into broader interior design choices.
At the heart of this movement is Shades Plus, a local, military-veteran-owned business specializing in custom window treatments and shade solutions across Frisco, Prosper, Celina, and North Texas. Founded in 2024 in Prosper by Frank and Abbey Giunta, Shades Plus was built with a clear mission: to offer a client-focused experience rather than a transactional, corporate one. Grounded in the core values
of integrity, quality, and thoughtful design, the Shades Plus team considers it a privilege to work alongside homeowners and business owners to bring their visions to life through tailored solutions.
As design preferences continue to evolve, window treatments are increasingly seen as long-term investments that enhance daily living and elevate a space’s overall aesthetic. The 2026 trends explored here highlight this evolution, showcasing how modern window treatments blend innovation, craftsmanship, and style to create environments that are not only beautiful but functional, efficient, and deeply personal.

Drapery is making a strong return, bringing softness and sophistication back into modern interiors. Pairing sheer panels with blackout or room-darkening drapes in soft, neutral hues offers versatile light control throughout the day. Sheers gently diffuse sunlight while heavier panels provide privacy, insulation, and glare reduction at night. In open-concept spaces with expansive windows, drapery serves as a luxurious backdrop, framing views and creating a polished, magazine-worthy look that elevates the entire room.

Smart technology continues to transform window treatments, especially in homes with large or hard-to-reach windows. Motorized shades, blinds, and drapery can be controlled by remote, app, or voice command, blending convenience with modern design. Beyond traditional options, Smart Film technology is gaining popularity for glass entryways, sliders, and offices. With the touch of a button, glass shifts from transparent to opaque, offering instant privacy without sacrificing natural light or sleek architectural appeal.

We know the phrase “April showers bring May flowers,” but most Texans know that March through June means one thing: severe weather. During these months, Texas often experiences an intense storm season that can include damaging hail, severe thunderstorms, extreme heat, and, of course, tornadoes.
Brian Dyer, owner of NCS Roofing and Restoration, understands that sudden weather changes are common in North Texas and that having a solid roof is critical to protecting your home. He explains, “This time of year is perfect for examining your roof and doing a ‘roof tune-up’ before a problem arises.” Most roofing issues don’t begin as emergencies caused by a recent storm; instead, they gradually develop over time. Daily exposure to the Texas sun, wind, fluctuating temperatures, and occasional storms can lead to deterioration of sealants, cracked neoprene pipe boots, and loose flashing—some of the most common sources of roof leaks.
NCS Roofing identifies and addresses these issues early, helping homeowners avoid extensive, costly damage while extending the life of their roofing system. This preventative approach is a core principle of NCS Roofing and Restoration. It reflects a “preventative philosophy” that shifts the homeowner’s mindset from calling a roofer only when repairs are needed to prioritizing proactive care and long-term solutions.
One quality that sets NCS Roofing & Restoration apart is its emphasis on education. Homeowners are provided with clear explanations, documentation when applicable, and honest recommendations. This allows customers to feel confident in their decisions without feeling rushed or pressured. By focusing on communication and long-term value, NCS Roofing has earned the trust of homeowners across North Texas.
“This time of year is perfect for examining your roof and doing a ‘roof tune-up’ before a problem arises.”
Brian says, “I treat every roof like it’s my own.” He adds, “We do not knock on doors after a storm. We are trusted by insurance companies and receive many referrals from them. Not every roof issue requires starting from scratch or replacing the entire roof. In many cases, targeted repairs, inspections, and maintenance can preserve an existing roof and prevent future problems.” With so many roofing companies in Texas, Brian takes immense pride in the quality of work, craftsmanship, transparency, and trust provided by NCS Roofing.
Did you know Texas does not require roofing companies to be licensed? When researching a roofing contractor, Brian encourages homeowners to do their due diligence. He recommends verifying the company’s insurance, specifically roofing insurance, not just general construction coverage. It is also wise to choose a company registered with the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas (RCAT). Finally, Brian advises checking the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and local chambers of commerce. NCS Roofing and Restoration has earned an A+ rating with the BBB and maintains a five-star Google rating based on positive homeowner feedback. Additionally, NCS Roofing has been recognized three years in a row with the “Best of Prosper” and “Best of Celina” awards, as voted by the respective communities.
NCS Roofing is locally owned and has served North Texas for almost twenty years, including operating an office in downtown Frisco for over a decade. Brian Dyer is no stranger to Frisco and knows the community well, having been actively
involved in both the city and Frisco ISD. His son is a graduate of Frisco High School.
NCS roof evaluations often include checking high-risk areas and gutters to ensure water is directed safely away from the home. This approach reflects the company’s commitment to protecting homeowners’ investments rather than pushing unnecessary services. When roof replacement is needed, NCS Roofing prioritizes durable materials and proven installation methods. The company provides free upgrades to Class 4 impact-resistant shingles as part of its standard replacement policy, offering enhanced protection against severe weather and the potential for reduced insurance premiums, depending on the carrier. NCS Roofing also includes a Lifetime Workmanship Warranty. In addition, NCS Roofing and Restoration offers restoration services, including repairs to drywall, windows, gutters, and interior damage related to storms.
This thoughtful, homeowner-focused approach is why North Texas residents continue to place their trust in NCS Roofing. As the region grows, the need for knowledgeable and reliable roofing professionals becomes increasingly important. NCS Roofing & Restoration remains committed to serving North Texas with integrity, professionalism, and exceptional workmanship. Whether performing inspections, maintenance, or full roofing projects, NCS Roofing stands by its guiding principle: BUILDING QUALITY & TRUST.
Prepare your home now for the spring season. Call Brian Dyer at NCS Roofing and Restoration at 214-407-8248.

Texas Tulips began as a dream for Pieter and Petra Koeman. Working in the tulip industry in their native Netherlands, they set their goal to bring a tulip farm to America.
The couple researched soil conditions and weather history to find just the right conditions for their blooms to thrive. Their tulip fields now grow in Pilot Point, Frisco’s neighbor to the northwest.
Every year, the farm imports thousands of fresh bulbs from Holland, where Pieter’s family has been in the tulip business for decades. Texas Tulips boast colorful rows and rows of blooms in a variety of shapes and sizes.
Tulip Season in Texas is a little unpredictable, as it relies on the weather but typical season starts mid February and ends in early April.

Morning, afternoon, maybe a “just one more cup” evening moment. Coffee fuels the ideas, the deadlines, and the conversations. It’s less of a beverage and more of a personality trait at this point.

Give me crisp air, big views, and a trail that reminds me how small my inbox really is. The Rockies are my reset button. Equal parts humbling, inspiring, and totally worth time spent with my kids and the sore legs.
Midweek calls for good wine and even better friends. No agenda, no rush. Just laughter, stories, and a collective exhale. It’s therapy, but cheaper and with better snacks.
Nothing tops time with my two college kids, Preston at Arkansas and Pene Laine at SMU. Different campuses, same pride. Every visit, call, and text is my favorite part of any week.

Real books. Dog-eared pages encouraged. Reading lets me travel, learn, escape, and dream, sometimes all before bedtime. It’s my favorite way to slow down and tune everything else out.
