Amidst the many obstacles we have all faced this year, we can still choose to approach this season with the spirit of gratitude and giving. Now more than ever, there are many who need our love and support. Let's make this one of the grandest seasons of giving we've ever experienced and reap the blessings of watching happiness on the faces of those we love.

In this December issue of Frisco Life, we're elated to share with you great, local stories featuring how Frisco's future includes being a new, mega golf destination; why it's still so vital to continue tapping into 911 services to save our lives even during the current pandemic; and where you might want to head for public holiday events. Additionally, please take a look at a couple of articles with fresh ideas about interior designs and outdoor decorations for the holidays. As the publisher of Frisco Life, along with our team, we would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas. May your homes be filled with much love, and remember, as you approach this season that there are many less fortunate that need our love and care. Merry Christmas!

Sarah admits she’s passionate about being an entrepreneur. “I made millions for my favorite companies, and I decided years ago that I’m ready to invest in myself and help transform the lives of my clients,” she adds. She says she’s built important resources that allow her to meet any budget for any client while creating memorable experiences. “At times, clients confide with me when they’re looking to rebuild their life after a traumatic event, such as a divorce. I personally take them through a journey of rebuilding their life with positivity.” Sarah also helps design commercial spaces for local physician offices and wellness clinics, including starting from a shell space, as well as working with architects, construction teams and city permits. As she enters each space, she says she envisions patients’ anticipated experiences, and designs the flow in a manner so patients enjoy visiting the office. 18

Frisco Life | December 2020

“I design with a people first mentality. I want people to love the space they work in, or serve their own clients in,” she says. Sarah also can serve clients as a personal stylist, assisting them in preparing for professional events and photo shoots. She provides complimentary consultations, which can consist of 1 to 2 hours of an in-person or virtual meeting for all of her services.

of breath are still symptoms of heart attack. Sudden face drooping, weakness in an arm or leg, or speech difficulty are stroke symptoms. Any of these symptoms required emergency care in the past. They still require emergency care now. 2. Medical professionals train for years to help with medical emergencies. When experiencing symptoms, people need to be seen in an emergency department that’s qualified and capable of taking care of a cardiac or stroke emergency; don’t worry about overburdening them. They’re committed to saving lives, and that’s true still during COVID-19. 3. Calling 911 at the first sign of a heart attack or stroke could save your life, or a loved one’s. From dispatchers to first responders, the emergency response system is prepared to help patients safely and quickly, even during a pandemic. First responders are trained to avoid spreading germs. Hospitals are following protocols to sanitize, socially distance and keep infected people away from others. Many now have separate emergency rooms, operating rooms, cardiac catheterization rooms and ICUs to separate COVID-19 patients. 4. It’s hard to be alone in hospitals, but heart attacks and strokes can be deadly or lead to serious disability. The sooner people get help, the better — and the more likely they’ll be alive to see their loved ones again. 5. Don’t let perceived costs stop you from calling. The Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act is a federal law that requires anyone being treated in a hospital emergency department with an emergency condition to be stabilized and treated, regardless of their insurance status or ability to pay. The federal Affordable Care Act generally requires most health plans to cover emergency services. Any health plan providing benefits for emergency services must cover them regardless of whether the health care provider or hospital is an in-network provider. In addition, the plan can’t impose a copayment or coinsurance on out-of-network emergency services that’s greater than the in-network cost. 6. Heart attack and stroke treatment begins in ambulances. Research shows calling 911 helps people get treated more quickly, as well as get to the right hospital to best treat individual conditions. 7. For languages other than English, dial 911 and say: “Stroke. Spanish interpreter” or “Heart Attack. Spanish interpreter.” Most EMS dispatch centers use a language line that helps them respond to calls in Spanish and other languages.

Dr. Marc Krock reminds that one major benefit of calling 911 during heart attack symptoms is that an EKG can be immediately performed by EMS ambulance crews.

PARTING THOUGHTS

Corners of the Heart THE GIFT OF HOPE: EMPOWERMENT OF MIND, BODY AND SOUL ARTICLE BECKA MATERNE ART BY BECKA MATERNE

OBSTACLES WILL ALWAYS BE PART OF ROADS WE EACH WALK DOWN. HOW WE HANDLE ADVERSITY IS KEY IN EXPERIENCING HOPE, HEALING AND FREEDOM. BECAUSE OF THE OBSTACLES I’VE JOURNEYED, I COMPLETELY BELIEVE IN HOPE, HEALING AND FREEDOM. I KNOW THEY ARE NOT ONLY POSSIBLE BUT MOST DEFINITELY AVAILABLE AND ATTAINABLE. Ever wondered what it takes to have hope that withstands adversity? Hope is expecting positive outcomes. In a way, that sounds like a cliche of false positivity. Yet, without hope, we have empty expectations and those easily can cause us to lose motivation to expect the best in life. I know from personal experiences that hope is the catalyst that pushed me to overcome deep adversity. Without hope pushing me through murky waters, I wouldn’t have been able to hold on and see myself to the other side. Hope pushed me through. If there’s one thing needed through this year of new experiences with global adversity and unprecedented obstacles, it’s Hope, which can enable us to make it into 2021. Hope is a mantra and an empowerment of the mind, body and soul. Hope brings healing. I think of a wound that needs tended to and I’m reminded each wound takes time to heal. Some need tended to more, and others not so much. The expectation of the positive outcome is wounds will heal with care and time, healing will come. With healing comes freedom. This is the place in which Hope takes on a maturity that is now capable of standing strong on its own. Through adversity, Hope is always dependent on getting through the obstacle and into a place of safety. In other words, where Freedom reigns strong. As I imagine us walking through this last month of 2020, the picture in my mind is the healing before the freedom. The journey into 2021 is hope that healing is taking place, wounds are being tended to and freedom does exists on the other side of this season. If there is one thing I can extend to you, that would be to give you each the gift of Hope. "Healing Hope" 34

Untreated high blood pressure can lead to stroke, vision loss, heart failure, heart attack and kidney disease/failure. Join the American Heart Association in supporting our Veteran community with a gift that helps fund the donation of individual blood pressure cuffs allowing patients to monitor at home. Recording blood pressure at home will be able to ensure that treatments to lower high blood pressure are working. A diagnosis of PTSD and/or a more severe injury can more than double a Veteran’s risk for high blood pressure. High blood pressure is the single most important risk factor for stroke because it’s the leading cause of stroke.

Your gift will help provide individual blood pressure cuffs to the Plano Veteran Affairs Clinic for patient at-home monitoring.
