THROUGH LOVEPACS Lovepacs assists students in all 77 FISD schools who are on free and reduced school lunch programs by providing individual meals and snacks. Lovepacs LLC, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, needs donations of non-perishable, easy-to-open, and minimal cooking food items to distribute to youths – especially canned pasta, boxed macaroni and cheese, microwavable popcorn bags, granola bars and single-serving snacks. The holidays are here and as the spirit of the season is among us, we often try to replicate what made the season feel so magical to us in our youth. The traditions we set for our own families often mirror some of what we experienced as a child whether it is the smells, the sounds, the lights, the holiday activities or a combination of it all that reflect that best. This month, we wanted to highlight the magic of the season and what our area has to offer that helps spread holiday cheer. What an honor it was, and is, to have become an official ambassador of Frisco Chamber of Commerce. As an ambassador, I get the privilege of facilitating member-to-member communication, supporting and encouraging member involvement and enhancing the community's familiarity and knowledge of the organization. I'm delighted to be part of sharing this type of goodwill on behalf of the overall Frisco region. While this season can be beautiful for some, it can be painful and lonely for others, especially those who have recently lost a loved one. In the true spirit of the season, let’s take care of those in our community that need assistance or who are alone. My hope for you this season is that you feel love and peace and that we all remember to take care of each other extending grace, empathy and love.

Frisco's GIS Public Safety Program Recognized For Continued Innovation Frisco Information Technology Department's GIS Division staffers received two awards for continued innovative work on SAFER (Situational Awareness For Emergency Response). The program, designed in-house, gives firefighters, EMTs and police officers immediate access to building information, including real-time video, while responding to emergencies. Internationally recognized more than a decade ago, SAFER recently received the Innovations in GIS Award and Special Achievement in GIS Award from Esri, a global geographic information system (GIS) software company. The Frisco Chamber of Commerce is a 5-Star Accredited Chamber of Commerce consisting of 1,200-plus member businesses that provide goods and services to the bustling economy in Frisco and surrounding area. The mission of the Frisco Chamber of Commerce is to protect and promote commerce, through advocacy, resources and connections.
Frisco Chamber of Commerce officials announce the Leadership Frisco Class XXVII members. The 25 members were selected from a large and competitive pool of applicants. Leadership Frisco is a nine-month community leadership program of the Frisco Chamber of Commerce and led by a volunteer group of past graduates known as the Leadership Frisco Advisory Council. The purpose of the Leadership Frisco program is to develop a pool of qualified, highly motivated individuals interested in expanding their leadership skills, deepening their sense of civic responsibility, and becoming more involved in the Frisco community. During the program year, a full day each month is dedicated to exploring the inner workings of Frisco’s government, educational system, economic development, service organizations, regional issues, leisure and culture, health services and public safety. Class members have the opportunity to learn about and practice skills critical to working with volunteers and groups in the community. This Giving Campaign is all about personally impacting the lives of people we know with an unexpected check in the mail just to say that someone thought of them this holiday season.”
The annual City Lifestyle Giving Campaign is in its 4th year. Last holiday season we gave away over $300,000 to help 116 individuals and families in need, but we need your help to make it happen again this year. With nominations flooding in from community members and leaders such as judges, police officers, teachers, nurses, social workers, mentors and readers like you, we were able to reach people who might otherwise go unnoticed. Perhaps you know of a single parent struggling to provide for their family, an elderly person who has experienced loss, someone enduring a health issue, a co-worker suffering a sudden, unexpected tragedy or a neighbor with a financial hardship who has fallen between the cracks of getting assistance. Chances are you know someone with a specific need, even if no one else does. “We believe in giving back and serving the communities where we live in a real and tangible way,” says Steven Schowengerdt, CEO and founder of City Lifestyle. “This Giving Campaign is about personally impacting the lives of people we know with an unexpected check in the mail just to say that someone thought of them during this holiday season.” “We believe God has blessed our company with continued success, so we in turn want to be a blessing to others,” Matthew Perry, President of City Lifestyle adds. City Lifestyle has also enacted an internal giving program whereby every employee in the company receives $100 to give away to someone in the community. “The idea is to encourage our employees to keep giving on their own,” Steven says. “Taking care of one another and blessing others is truly rewarding and it perpetuates a cycle of giving. It’s extremely important to me as a person and as a company to foster a culture of generosity.”

ARTICLE BY JULIE BROWN PATTON Christmas in the Square returns for its historic 19th anniversary with even more fun surprises. It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas at Frisco Square! This spectacular show draws more than 75,000 visitors annually. The holiday lights and music run daily from 6-10 p.m., and the show is free to the public. Visitors may tune in to 107.3 FM on the radio in their vehicles or listen to the music piped through speakers as they walk through the Square. The light and music extravaganza is choreographed by Frisco’s own Jeff Trykoski (Illumimax, LLC). The light show features 180,000-plus lights, 200 dancing snowflakes, 10 miles of wiring and 8 miles of extension cords. Newly upgraded to feature 4,000 feet of roof edge LED RBG lighting and 3,000 feet of RBG color-changing canopy, the Christmas in the Square show features 10 songs. In its 14th year at Frisco Square, Skate the Square is the area’s only real ice outdoor ice rink. Located perfectly along Main and Coleman, Skate the Square provides the perfect ice skating experience for getting in the holiday spirit. This year, Frisco Square also presents Visits With Santa and Horse Carriage Rides. Boy Scouts Troop 51 members continue the tradition of offering trees for the holidays, beginning at First United Methodist Church on Preston and expanding to the second lot in Frisco Square. A portion of the sales is divided among the Scouts who work the tree lot to fund campouts and activities. For event-related questions, call 214.872.1054 during day business hours.
