A TEXAS HILL COUNTRY GETAWAY AMONG BLUE SKIES
THE BLUE SKIES RETRO RESORT JUST MIGHT BE THE MOST INSTA-WORTHY GETAWAY IN TEXAS HILL COUNTRY. Casey and Atticus Rowe have created a unique resort unlike anything this part of Texas has seen. With flawless attention to detail, and the dream of creating a Palm Springs vibe, their five Shasta trailers and Texas sago palm trees are creating social media posts and fun memories that will have guests wanting to return again and again. The idea of creating a camping experience with touches of luxury came to Casey, she says, while she was setting up her own trailer campsite and she just wanted to be able to “get there and enjoy.” She adds it was only a week or two later when she saw a property between Llano and Fredricksburg, one that had a large open field and sits adjacent to an old schoolhouse. That’s when Casey and Atticus knew this was the perfect place to “sprinkle trailers in a field and take off into the vision they both shared.”

that’s pretty much a blank background for any event or occasion that guests want to host at Blue Skies. The resort can be completely rented out, and one of Casey’s favorite events was the first wedding ever held there. Prior to the COVID-19 shutdown, Blue Skies hosted a 150-person wedding party that was themed after a carnival. Casey and Atticus worked the wedding as parking attendants, and she says “they had the most fun” and it’s one of her favorite memories to date. Blue Skies is purposely designed to lend itself to its guests creativity, exclaims Casey. “Anybody’s vision and vibe can come to life. Anything can happen out there.” Among those visiting to take in the Hill Country atmosphere is the group of friends and family, who come to reconnect; that brings Casey joy. Other than weddings, there have been bachelorette parties, reunions and family getaways. Fredericksburg and the Texas Wine Trail are popular daytime activities, and in the heat of the Texas summer, there’s a pool for casual relaxation. For DFW residents, the Blue Skies Retro Resort is an easy weekend (or weekday) escape, and for those that need to stay plugged in – yes, there is Wi-Fi. Each of the five pastel-hued trailers has an unexpected “companion bathroom” and this is where it gets fun – hotel amenities, robes and an outdoor shower. It’s been about a year and a half since the official opening of the resort and this mini retro oasis emerging from an open field has fun at its core value. Casey loves to see how each guest and group really use the time and location to make it a unique experience. To add to the fun and creativity,

HEALTHY LIFESTYLE THE PRO GOLFER’S FITNESS JOURNEY
SCOTT
STALLINGS’
WORKOUT ARTICLE CITY LIFESTYLE
SCOTT STALLINGS DISCOVERED HIS INTEREST IN GOLF AT THE YOUNG AGE OF 3. But it was the “aha moment” for his love of the game that came in 1997 when Tiger Woods won the Masters and would forever change the entire landscape of the industry, as well as what Stallings would aspire to achieve in his future professional endeavors. Little did he know at the time, however, not just how successful he would become, but also how an unforeseen health compromise would also rock his world, and his cross training, for the better. He was a seven-time tournament winner and was an All-American while attending Tennessee Tech, and he has won on the PGA Tour three times as a professional golfer. Flash forward to the year 2016: It became a life-changing year he never would have anticipated; one filled with strife as he learned he had been diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea and acute adrenal fatigue. It was a result of some unhealthy nutritional habits, both of which affected his ability to continue effectively as a professional athlete. With the guidance of doctors, surgeons, and his good friend Rich Froning, a four-time Crossfit champion, Scott developed a workout to trim 60 pounds, boasting 10% body fat, revising his daily eating habits, and sleeping healthily through the night. Had Scott not gone to the doctor because of that innate fear, he never would have known the diagnosis of sleep apnea that needed to be addressed. Luckily for Scott, he didn’t have an overwhelming, crazy life overhaul. Instead, he was able to find one small thing, delivering simple systematic changes in his workout that led to his improvement in fitness and quality of life. “You only get one body,” he says. “Golf is a grind, but don’t let physicality get in the way of your game,” Scott says.

FOCUSED ON INDUSTRY PARTNERSHIP: GO MEAN GREEN
GROUNDBREAKING CONSTRUCTION IS UNDERWAY FOR CREATING UNT FRISCO, WHICH WILL ANCHOR A TRAILBLAZING, INNOVATIVE EDUCATIONAL AND BUSINESS HUB ON 150 ACRES OF LAND. The upcoming branch campus is located near the Dallas North Tollway. “We’re enthralled to help drive such a new, inspirational force. This is certainly a milestone that makes us proud,” says Frisco Mayor Jeff Cheney. During 2016, UNT started a satellite campus in Frisco, which offers select courses serving about 900 students. The university currently occupies multiple sites in the city to accommodate the fast-growing area of Collin County -- a locale that’s basically doubled its population in nearly two decades to almost 1 million residents. Jeff says non-traditional students are a significant part of the UNT Frisco population, including full-time working students, adults who are returning to higher education and junior college graduates. The university implements degree programs that involve “cohorts,” or teams of students that work to solve problems for industry partners, says the mayor. Students learn curriculum as they handle real-life business challenges, along with how to interact as a team and be leaders. The future campus is expected to open fully during the fall of 2022. “UNT has already been ‘all in’ on Frisco, and we look forward to the partnership continuing to grow,” proclaims Jeff.

PARTING THOUGHTS
CORNERS OF THE HEART A FATHER’S HANDS
SEVERAL YEARS AGO, MY YOUNGEST DAUGHTER, BECKA, WAS RIDING ALONG IN THE CAR WITH MY WIFE AND ME. She asked, “Dad, do you mind if I take some pictures of your hands?” I said, “Of course, but why do you want pictures of my hands?” I think what she saw could be summed up in an email I received from a friend of mine about a grandfather talking to his child about his old hands. He said, “These old hands have tied my shoes. They have been dirty, scraped and raw, swollen and bent. They were uneasy and clumsy when I tried to hold my newborn daughter. They trembled and shook when I buried my parents. They have covered my face, combed my hair, and washed and cleansed the rest of my body. They have been sticky and wet, bent and broken, dried and raw. And to this day, when some other things of me don’t work so well, these hands hold me up, lay me down and again continue to fold in prayer.” This Father’s Day, let your children and/or grandchildren know just how much you love them. Fathers, you have the power at “hand” to make a difference for good in the lives of your children. I challenge you to be that man.
