TEXAS WOMEN STAND AGAINST THEIR NO. 1 KILLER: CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASE Cardiovascular disease kills one woman every 80 seconds and takes more lives than all forms of cancer combined, according to health care experts. Heart disease and stroke impact the lives of one in three women, and cardiac events are on the rise in young women in their 20s. To raise awareness of cardiovascular disease as women’s greatest health threat, American Heart Association representatives encouraged everyone to ‘wear red and give’ on National Wear Red Day, Feb. 5, and to take part in the 2021 Go Red for Women Experiences on April 23 in Tarrant County. “Heart

can affect a woman at any age,” says Susan Wetzel, executive leadership team chair of the Dallas Go Red for Women. “The Go Red for Women movement empowers women to take charge of their own heart health as well as the health of those they love.” Interested women can sign up to participate in the lifesaving clinical trial research through AHA's Go Red for Women movement and Verily’s Project Baseline: "Research Goes Red initiative." For inquiries, call 800.AHA.USA1 (242-8721).
LEADERSHIP FRISCO CLASS XXIV PARTNERS WITH VETERANS TO REVITALIZE MEMORIAL Leadership Frisco Class 24 partnered with Frisco’s Veterans Advisory Committee to help fundraise $50,000 and revitalize the Veterans Memorial at Frisco Commons Park. Originally dedicated in 2004 to honor local veterans, the Frisco Veterans Memorial includes a Walk of Honor with dedicated veteran bricks, a Wall of Honor in remembrance of 11 young service members from Frisco who made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of their country in addition 10

to various plaques recognizing and describing significant wars. Due to age and weathering from outside elements, much of the park is in need of repair. Leadership Frisco Class 24 aims to fundraise in hopes to add a variety of needed improvements and bring more awareness to the memorial. Class 24 member and Veteran Amanda Lagan says they look forward to helping revitalize this memorial that will serve as a welcoming and connecting place for residents and visitors of Frisco, and we appreciate the community’s support to help Honor Our Veterans. Plans are being made to celebrate improvements to the park during a community event scheduled for Memorial Day 2021.

TELLING STORIES WITH ART MILESSA ADMITS COMPREHENDING PLACES THROUGH ART CAN BE DIFFICULT BECAUSE THERE’S SO MUCH TO ABSORB, AND WITH THAT ANALYSIS COMING FROM THE KNOWLEDGE IT’S IMPOSSIBLE TO TRULY UNDERSTAND EVERY ELEMENT THAT MAKES A PLACE THE WAY IT IS. “Art helps bridge the gap between the naïve belief that we already understand the world around us, and it gives us different perspectives,” she says. “This perspective is from an outsider’s view, but it’s relatable. You get another piece of the puzzle in figuring out places through art, which gets you closer to the goal of complete understanding.” ARTICLE JULIE BROWN PATTON

Disinfection Experts CDC SERVICES SERVES HOSPITALS, SCHOOLS, GOVERNMENT AGENCIES, AUTO DEALERSHIPS AND OFFICES
ONE FRISCO-BASED PROFESSIONAL STARTED A COMPANY LAST YEAR BECAUSE HE SAW THE NEED FOR EVERY REGIONAL BUSINESS AND PUBLIC SERVICE GROUP TO RECEIVE THE SAME CLEANING AND DISINFECTION STANDARDS USED IN HOSPITALS TO FIGHT COVID-19. CDC Services’ teams combine commercial cleaning and disinfection services with passionate, dedicated customer care to provide the best in infection prevention, affirms the company’s chief executive officer Larry Boykin. Combined with hospital-grade cleaning standards, Larry says his teams use a revolutionary ATP Cleanliness Verification System made by Hygiena. “This system allows every business, school or medical center to receive immediate verification that their building is truly clean and disinfected. It’s also extremely convenient to manage all testing locations right from the dashboard,” he adds. Larry says CDC Services is backed by 20-plus years of combined environmental services and custodial experience that ensure expert cleaning standards and procedures. Frisco Life recognized the value of such an intriguing system and approach, and asked Larry how it delivers advantages to his clients. WHAT ARE THE TOP REASONS IT’S MOST IMPORTANT FOR PUBLIC ENTITIES TO HAVE CONFIDENCE IN CLEANLINESS OF THEIR BUILDINGS AND SURROUNDINGS? AND WHAT SETS CDC APART IN PROVIDING SERVICES TO THOSE GROUPS? What looks clean does not always mean it’s clean or sanitized. With COVID cases growing, a business or school that can provide the safest environment for staff and customers will stay open and attract more customers. 22

and neglect, the economy tanked, forcing Tamara to do a lot of the work herself. To stay on budget, she went to estate sales and redesigned furniture to fit her vision for the house. Out of this experience, a new brand was born— Growing Days, Tamara’s interior design, furniture, décor and lifestyle business. On HGTV & DIY Network’s Bargain Mansions, Tamara and her crew transform big, old houses that she finds at bargain prices. While respecting the integrity and history of the homes, she integrates modern design, function and style to the space – perfect for today’s families. CityLifestyle.com/Frisco

What is the Purpose? Does a journey have to be a trip? We have to decide. Journeys can be a new start or a place we create to escape our daily routine. Journeys can be our yearly vacations, our family memory trips and our self-reflecting places we create to experience peace, joy and rest. Creating a purpose for our journeys allows us to map out discoveries we want to find while on our adventures. We may have weekly journeys, monthly getaways, long drives to reflect and think through. Create your purpose. Following Through Seal of commitment Decide to stay committed to your journey dreams. Your purpose is what leads you to commitment. To see the outcome of a fulfilled journey, you must follow through and see your journey’s purpose become a reality. Seal your journey with the commitment to see it through. The joy you will find in walking it out will bring you lasting growth and fulfillment. 32

PARTING THOUGHTS
Corners of The Heart MY HOPE ATTACK
DURING APRIL 2017, MY WORLD LITERALLY STOPPED! At 49, I suffered not one, but two, heart attacks within four days. Once back home, I had plenty of resting time to hear from God. I laugh because I feel like God “benched” me. Timeout to re-evaluate my life, stop, rest and listen. My healing process continued and I found myself getting depressed. Sixty-five percent of heart attack survivors deal with depression. You begin asking questions to the wind, “Will it happen again, did the surgeon correct it right?” One Sunday, as I watched Pastor Steven Furtick online, his topic was “Renaming Your Fight.” He explained, “We don’t have to live with labels.” That moment my depression lifted; my heart attack became my “Hope Attack!” Hope doesn’t always come naturally. We must remind ourselves of the power we have to change our situation and to not live with a label. Hope is the desire for something good in the future. For me, hope is a reality, not a feeling. Hope is a sure foundation upon which I base my life, believing God always keeps His promises. Therefore, hope is a confident expectation or assurance based upon a sure foundation of joy and full confidence.
