Tonya knows the importance of providing access to mentoring and resources to people who wouldn’t otherwise have access to it. “You have lived through something in your life that can benefit another human. Share it freely,” Tonya says. Hearing the voices of these women who dedicate themselves to the betterment of our own community is nothing short of inspiring. There is something, for all of us, that draws us. A passion. A stirring. And there is a reason for it, one which we should not—cannot—ignore. As Marlene so adamantly states, “Together we can become not only community champions, but community changers.”
Follow the “song that makes your heart sing.” Ask questions, be curious. You’ll find your way to a cause. Create a vision board to help you visualize what you want to manifest into your life. GIVING BACK Frederick Health

G l o b a l M o v e m e n t, Personal Impact HOW FREDERICK HEALTH RALLIES FOR A COMMUNITY CAUSE
2.47 BILLION DOLLARS. An almost unthinkable amount of money, for most of us. Yet that’s how much GivingTuesday raised in 2020 alone. GivingTuesday is now a global event, created in 2012 when two New York organizations decided to set aside a day around Thanksgiving where people could celebrate the American tradition of philanthropy and giving. Simply put, it’s a generosity movement. The impact, however, is anything but modest. What does this have to do with you and me? Lots. GivingTuesday may be a global event, but it impacts you directly thanks to the radical generosity of donors at our very own Frederick Health. We wanted to find out more, so we sat down with Robin Rose, Chief Development Officer, for a fascinating Q&A. WE UNDERSTAND THAT FREDERICK HEALTH VEERS AWAY FROM TYPICAL FUNDRAISING FASHION. CAN YOU ELABORATE ON THAT? Frederick Health has a unique way of fundraising. We don’t do fundraising events; rather, we encourage membership in giving clubs. We utilize a group of about 60 volunteers from all different walks of life in the community who serve as advocates and volunteer fundraisers. They help grow membership in our giving clubs. Every dollar goes directly to the hospital because there is no “cover cost” that you’d see in a typical fundraising event. We can fundraise so much more with a greater return.

HEALTHY LIFESTYLE BEN HIGGINS TALKS COFFEE, HOPE & HUMANITY, AND WHAT IT MEANS TO BE THANKFUL
Living a Purposeful Life PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED
PROBABLY BEST KNOWN FOR BEING LEAD #20 IN THE BACHELOR, THERE IS SO MUCH MORE TO BEN HIGGINS THAN BEING ONE OF AMERICA’S REALITY TV SWEETHEARTS, SUCH AS HIS DEEP PASSION FOR MAKING MOVES TO “MULTIPLY GOOD IN THE WORLD.” Since his time on The Bachelor, Ben has taken the opportunity to use his fame to create not one, but two inspiring podcasts, publish a successful autobiography, while also elevating awareness of his “for-purpose” Generous Coffee brand. CL: HOW DID GENEROUS COFFEE BEGIN? BH: We launched in January of 2018. When I was 15 years old I went to Central America; our hearts were broken and eyes were opened to the lack of strategy behind non-profit work. My buddy on that trip started a non-profit called Humanity & Hope United Foundation. We ask people within these communities, how can we help? The goal was a partnership to help them increase their education programs, their healthcare, but be led by them. When the show [The Bachelor] happened,

TABLESCAPE INSPIRATION FOR YOUR HOLIDAY MEAL
CULINARY CREATIONS
SET THE SCENE THERE
IS
NO
BETTER
OCCASION
THAN
THANKSGIVING TO SET THE PERFECT TABLESCAPE! Whatever your style or budget, there is no shortage of ways to make your dining experience beautiful. A little bit of creativity can go a long way!
TIPS: + Use a variety of textures. + Mix and match woven elements, like rattan and cotton. + Stick to a color palette. This will bring the whole scene together. + Bring in some of the outdoors. Pinecones, leaves or dried florals make a beautiful centerpiece. + Minimize clutter. This goes without saying. + Layer your dishes. Beautiful stacks of dishes are just so much more pleasing to the eye than a single plate in each place. We love a good DIY. But sometimes it’s more realistic to purchase a few special pieces to set a scene. Below are some of our favorite local businesses for dining room and tabletop decor—plus some great spots to pick up
