ASK DR. RAHM
The Science of Staying Well HEALTHY HABITS NEVER GO OUT OF STYLE. As school, work, sports, travel, and more time indoors become part of the fall routine, staying healthy becomes a priority for many families. Scientist, inventor, and mother of four Dr. Christina Rahm shares the principles that guide both her research and her own family’s approach to wellness.
does it seem like everyone gets sick at the Q : Why same time once fall arrives? Dr. Rahm: Every fall, several things happen at once. We spend more time indoors, our schedules become busier, and many of the healthy routines that keep us feeling our best become less consistent. It’s usually not one thing that affects how we feel. It’s the accumulation of small choices over time. That’s why I always encourage people to prepare before seasonal challenges begin instead of waiting until they’re already sick.
we still get all the nutrients we need from Q : Can food alone? Dr. Rahm: I wish we could. That would always be my first choice. But our food supply has changed. Soil health, food processing, long transportation times, and the pace of modern life all make it harder to consistently get optimal nutrition from food alone. That’s one of the reasons I’ve spent so much of my career formulating high-quality products designed to help fill nutritional gaps. They should work alongside a nutrient-rich diet, helping provide the nutrients that can be difficult to get consistently from food alone. That’s one of the reasons I’ve spent so much of my career formulating high-quality products designed to help fill nutritional gaps.
Q:
What’s one healthy habit you believe more people should prioritize?
Dr. Rahm: Protecting your peace. We spend a lot of time thinking about what we put into our bodies, but we don’t spend nearly enough time thinking about what we allow into our lives. The people we surround ourselves with, the conversations we engage in, the information we consume, and the environments we choose all have an impact on our health. As a scientist, I understand how chronic stress affects the body. Personally, I’ve become much more intentional about protecting my own peace by choosing what deserves my energy and what doesn’t. Supporting your immune system isn’t about one decision. It’s the result of the choices you make every day, from nutrition and stress management to the products you choose to complement a healthy lifestyle.

LIFESTYLE LETTER
The Style Issue
September 2026 PUBLISHER
September is here, and I have to admit, I’m ready for a little fall refresh! There’s just something about this time of year that makes us want to switch things up. Whether it’s adding a few new pieces to our wardrobe, changing up the look of our homes or simply finding something fun and different. That’s what we had in mind when putting together our Style Issue. And when we say “style,” we’re definitely not talking about just clothes! In this issue, we’re bringing fall indoors with beautiful flower arranging ideas, taking a look at what’s new at Firefly and Fairington subdivisions, and sharing the story behind TN Hat Shop and how this Tennesseeinspired brand got its start. If you love a good treasure hunt, you’ll also want to check out our roundup of The Best Thrift Stores & Vintage Shops in Franklin. There’s nothing quite like finding that one-of-a-kind piece you didn’t even know you were looking for. We’re also featuring @taelewis_ and his take on personal style, along with an interview with Deacon Phillippe about Brother Save Us, which will be shown at the Nashville Film Festival. It’s always fun to see local talent and stories getting the attention they deserve. For me, that’s what makes style so much fun. It doesn’t have to be perfect or follow a certain set of rules. It’s about finding what you love and making it your own. So grab a cup of coffee, settle in and enjoy this issue. I hope you find a little inspiration, discover a new favorite spot and maybe even get a few ideas for your own fall refresh. Happy September!

It starts at the curb, where a healthy lawn, vibrant landscaping, and well-cared-for outdoor spaces create a first impression that speaks volumes about the people who live there. For Dave Kmita of LawnValue, a home's landscape reflects far more than appearance. It reflects pride, care, and the value homeowners place on one of their greatest investments. "A well-maintained lawn says, 'I care about my home and take pride in ownership.'" That philosophy guides every project, from routine lawn maintenance to complete landscape transformations. When arriving at a property for the first time, Kmita notices the small details that reveal how a home is cared for. Fresh mowing and trimming, crisp edges between lawns and planting beds, healthy plants with few weeds and clean hardscapes all signal consistent attention and pride of ownership. Those details may seem simple, but together they create a welcoming first impression. The rewards of a healthy landscape extend well beyond curb appeal. "A well-maintained landscape encourages people to spend more time outside," Kmita said. "Instead of looking at an overgrown yard and thinking, 'I need to deal with that,' they think, 'Let's have dinner on the patio,' or, 'Let's play outside for a
while.' The yard becomes an extension of the home rather than another chore." A beautiful yard invites families to gather, entertain, and enjoy more of the place they call home. Many homeowners still view landscaping as an expense rather than an investment, but Kmita believes the opposite is true. Healthy lawns, properly pruned trees, and well-maintained landscape beds help preserve property value while preventing costly issues such as damaged roofs, poor drainage, and dead plant replacements. As he puts it, "A neglected landscape costs you twice, once in lost enjoyment today, and again in lost value tomorrow. A well-maintained landscape pays you back every day you come home."
Maintaining a beautiful lawn in Williamson County requires adapting to every season. Spring is the time for weed prevention and growth management. Summer demands proper watering and stress reduction. Fall strengthens root systems, while winter prepares the lawn for the growing season ahead. According to Kmita, "The challenge isn't usually a lack of effort. It's knowing what to do and when to do it. That's where professional guidance makes the biggest difference. Lawn care isn't about applying the same treatment every few months. It's about responding to the changing conditions of Middle Tennessee throughout the year." CONTINUED >

“THE CHALLENGE ISN'T USUALLY A LACK OF EFFORT. IT'S KNOWING WHAT TO DO AND WHEN TO DO IT. THAT'S WHERE PROFESSIONAL GUIDANCE MAKES THE BIGGEST DIFFERENCE.”
One of the most rewarding aspects of LawnValue's work is seeing how a transformed landscape changes the way homeowners feel about their property. "We've had clients tell us they actually enjoy pulling into their driveway again because they're proud of what they see. What's even more exciting is the ripple effect it creates. Neighbors start asking ‘who did the work?’ then begin updating their own landscapes, and before long the entire street looks more vibrant and well cared for." A single beautiful property often inspires others to invest in their own homes, strengthening the entire neighborhood. For families looking to make their homes more inviting, Kmita recommends

staying consistent with lawn care by mowing properly, keeping mower blades sharp, watering deeply but less often, feeding the lawn throughout the year, and controlling weeds before they become established. Most importantly, he encourages homeowners to be involved in the design of their outdoor spaces so the finished landscape reflects their own vision and lifestyle. A thoughtfully maintained front yard does more than beautify a home. It tells a story of pride, creates spaces where memories are made, and inspires an entire neighborhood, one lawn at a time. They Could Be Telling You Something More
DON'T IGNORE YOUR DRY EYES
46
Most people brush off dry, irritated, or watery eyes as a minor annoyance. They grab a bottle of over-the-counter eye drops, assume it's part of getting older, and move on. But according to Dr. Kathryn Beckman of Beckman Dry Eye Institute, those symptoms can be early warning signs of a chronic disease that deserves attention long before it begins affecting daily life. Dr. Beckman's passion for treating dry eye disease (DED) began decades ago while caring for LASIK patients. "I started treating dry eye disease in the late 90’s when I noticed my LASIK patients had much better outcomes if they did not have dry eyes. So I started to give patients a pre-treatment protocol to eliminate any signs of dry eyes before surgery and the outcomes were significantly better." Her interest was also personal. "I had LASIK early on and personally suffered from dry eyes myself. So I was really motivated to look into managing DED decades ago for both personal and professional reasons."
S ELF CA R E | HEALTH + WE LLN E SS
Today, she says helping patients find answers is what continues to inspire her. "I love the forensic part of finding the root cause of the disease and the fact that I can really make a positive impact on people’s lives." She adds, "My passion for people who suffer from DED stems from many experiences over the years in meeting someone who thinks there is no hope for their disease, and giving them relief and their life back. I feel so blessed to be part of their journey." Many patients are surprised to learn that dry eye disease is often hiding behind symptoms they never associated with the condition. "If someone has symptoms like excessive watering, redness, gritty feeling, burning, having to blink to clear vision, pain, and sensitivity to light, we need to address it
or it will continue until it becomes severe." One of the biggest misconceptions, she says, is that watery eyes means your eyes are producing enough tears. However, in reality, the eyes may be overproducing tears because they are lacking the oil needed to keep them from evaporating. Rather than simply recommending eye drops, Dr. Beckman takes time to understand the complete picture. "I ask a lot of questions and really listen to my patient’s story." She explores everything from screen time and sleep habits to medications, previous eye injuries, and overall health. "DED usually has more than one underlying diagnosis. No two patients are the same, and I know that I can give them hope and relief with a personalized treatment plan." CONTINUED >

That detective work has changed lives. One patient had been treated for years with antibiotics for what was believed to be chronic conjunctivitis. Dr. Beckman discovered she actually had two severe autoimmune diseases contributing to her dry eye disease. Another patient, a truck driver, had lost his job after failing his vision exam because his fluctuating vision made it unsafe to drive.
“DED USUALLY HAS MORE THAN ONE UNDERLYING DIAGNOSIS. NO TWO PATIENTS ARE THE SAME, AND I KNOW THAT I CAN GIVE THEM HOPE AND RELIEF WITH A PERSONALIZED TREATMENT PLAN.”
48
S ELF CA R E | HEALTH + WE LLN E SS
After identifying and treating the root cause of his dry eye disease, he was able to return to work. She also recalls a patient who started to develop severe pain whenever she opened her eye in the morning. The pain caused her to miss work on and off, and over time she became anxious and depressed. Dr. Beckman discovered the problem was not just dry eye disease, but also a previous eye injury that had never properly healed, combined with the fact that she did not fully close her eyes while sleeping. Together, those factors created a chronic and painful condition often associated with dry eye disease. After developing a personalized treatment plan, the painful episodes stopped recurring, allowing her to return to work consistently while her anxiety and depression improved. Fortunately, advances in technology have transformed how dry eye disease is diagnosed and treated. Using advanced imaging and video, Dr. Beckman can evaluate every layer of the tear film, ocular surface, eyelids, and blinking patterns while reviewing the results directly with patients. "Patients often express validation at finally understanding why they have DED, and the relief that there is hope and treatment available."

Every treatment plan at Beckman Dry Eye Institute is tailored to the individual, whether patients are seeking faster relief, natural therapies, prescription medications, or budget-conscious options. For anyone who has accepted burning, watery or irritated eyes as simply part of life, Dr. Beckman has an encouraging message. "Our focus is solely dedicated to the treatment of DED and intervening before the disease impacts people’s lives. The earlier we can diagnose and initiate treatment, the easier it is to prevent damage to the eyes." Sometimes the smallest symptoms tell the biggest story. By seeking answers early, patients can protect not only their vision, but also their quality of life for years to come. BeckmanDryEyeInstitute.com

Bringing Fall Indoors
ONE BOUQUET AT A TIME ARTICLE BY TAYLOR LOVE PHOTOGRAPHY BY DYLAN JAMES/@DYLANJAMESFILMS

There's something about the first crisp mornings of fall that makes me want to freshen up every corner of the house. One of my favorite ways to do that is with fresh flowers and floral arranging. They instantly make your home feel warm, inviting, and ready for the season. Creating a beautiful DIY arrangement is much easier than most people think.
START AT A FLOWER MARKET (OR TRADER JOE'S!)
If you're local to Nashville, one of my favorite places to shop is Import Flowers. Their seasonal selection is incredible this
time of year, and you'll find so many unique varieties you won't always see at a grocery store. Trader Joe's is another favorite for beautiful, affordable flowers. Both have incredible pricing, and with a creative eye, you can go far.
STICK TO A SEASONAL COLOR PALETTE
For fall, I love mixing warm oranges, buttery yellows, deep reds, soft blush pinks, and rich greenery. The colors don't have to match perfectly; they just need to feel like they belong together.

CHOOSE A FOCAL FLOWER FIRST
Every arrangement needs one flower that steals the show. I built these arrangements around stunning dahlias that scream fall. Once you've picked your focal flower, the rest of the bouquet comes together much more easily.
PAIR STATEMENT FLOWERS WITH BUDGET-FRIENDLY BLOOMS
One of my favorite floral secrets is mixing a few statement blooms with affordable filler flowers like chrysanthemums or carnations to create a full, layered arrangement without breaking the budget.
MY BIGGEST TIP
Remove the leaves from the lower portion of each stem before arranging. It instantly makes the bouquet look cleaner and more polished.
CREATE HEIGHT AND MOVEMENT
The prettiest arrangements aren't perfectly symmetrical. Let some stems sit taller, allow greenery to spill over the edges, and embrace those natural imperfections that make an arrangement feel alive. At the end of the day, flower arranging isn't about perfection. It's about slowing down, getting creative, and bringing a little bit of fall into your home. Put on your favorite playlist, pour yourself a warm drink (or iced tea if you're in the South- ha!), and enjoy the process.

There comes a moment when drawings yield to dirt, ideas become landscapes, and a vision reveals itself one walk at a time. For Firefly, that moment has arrived.
“From the beginning, our goal was never simply to build another golf community. We wanted to create a place families would choose for generations, where remarkable golf is only one part of a richer way of living.” -Mark Yarborough, Partner Storied Development
South of Nashville, where Middle Tennessee’s hills roll gently toward the horizon, fairways now settle naturally into the land. Native grasses sway where construction stakes once stood. Members gather over breakfast before stepping onto a course few have seen, yet one that already feels as though it has always belonged here. This September, Firefly will open Andrew Green’s first original championship golf course—a milestone not only for one of golf’s most respected architects, but for a community that has quietly taken shape with uncommon patience. From the beginning, Firefly was never intended to be simply another golf development. Its promise was broader: to create a private club where championship golf, family life, genuine hospitality, and the rhythms
of the Tennessee countryside exist together with equal importance. “From the beginning, our goal was never simply to build another golf community,” says Mark Yarborough, partner at Storied Development. “We wanted to create a place families would choose for generations, where remarkable golf is only one part of a richer way of living.” The land itself made that vision possible. Just thirty minutes south of Nashville and a short drive from historic Franklin, Firefly occupies a landscape where hardwood forests, open meadows, and long ridgelines remain largely untouched. The city is close enough for dinner, music, or business, yet once inside the gates, another pace takes over. Mornings begin quietly, and evenings linger longer. CONTINUED >

That sense of place has drawn families from across the country, choosing to become part of Firefly long before the course officially opened. They are investing in more than homesites; they are joining a community while its traditions are still being written. This spring and summer, those traditions began with golf. During a series of Preview Play events, members experienced Andrew Green’s course for the first time. The rounds revealed a design that feels inseparable from its surroundings, with broad movement across the hills, thoughtful strategy, and a walk that rewards careful observation as much as careful play. “The land told us what it wanted to become,” Green says. “Our responsibility was to listen. The most memorable courses don’t overpower a landscape— they reveal it.” For Green, whose celebrated restorations include Oak Hill, Congressional, Inverness, East Lake, and Interlachen, Firefly represents a different kind of accomplishment. “A great golf course should ask players to think while inviting them to enjoy the walk,” he says. “Every round should reveal something new. That’s what we’ve tried to create at Firefly.” Yet some of the most memorable moments during the Preview Play happened after the scorecards were tucked away. Breakfast conversations stretched beyond tee times; lunch became an introduction to future neighbors; families wandered the property, imagining holidays, weekends, and traditions still to come. The club that had existed for years in imagination suddenly felt incredibly real. This fall marks another turning point. As the championship course officially opens, Firefly’s first member amenities continue to rise alongside it. The Golf Shop will welcome each day’s first tee times. The Fieldhouse, overlooking the practice grounds, is designed to become the club’s everyday living room—a place for breakfast before a round, family dinners after sunset, lessons with instructors, and lingering conversations

that have little to do with golf. Along the course, the Outpost will offer a welcoming pause for food, refreshments, and fellowship. Each addition reflects the same philosophy that shaped the course itself: thoughtful, enduring, and built for generations rather than seasons. Someday Firefly will feel fully established. Fairways will mature. Homes will settle into the landscape. Children will grow up believing these hills have always held a golf course and community.
Today offers something different. It offers the rare privilege of watching Firefly’s promise come into its own. The fairways are ready. The gathering places are taking shape. Friendships are already forming. And somewhere between the first walk across the land and the generations still to come, Firefly is becoming exactly what it was always meant to be. Hats Off To Tennessee Some businesses start with a business plan. And some simply start with a genuine passion for a place, a product, and the people around it. TN Hat, the headwear brand founded by Franklin's Hillary and Jason Demeo, is a love letter to Tennessee. We sat down with the Demeos to talk about how it all started, what goes into every hat they make, and why Tennessee will always be worth wearing.
Tell us a little about yourselves. JD: I’m Jason, most people just call me Jase. I grew up in Pittsburgh and then spent twenty years in Florida. My wife, Hillary, grew up outside of Cincinnati in a farming community, so Tennessee instantly felt like home to her. We actually met on our very first day of college over 20 years ago, at Southeastern University. We both studied Business in our undergrad, and I have a Master in Ministerial Leadership while Hillary has a Master in Organizational Leadership. We’ve been building things side by side for a long time now. We’re serial entrepreneurs. We ran a human-centered design firm together for years, and then about seven years ago I made the leap into being a full-time visual artist while Hillary built out a luxury short-term rental brand.
How Hillary And Jason Demeo Turned A Love Of The Volunteer State Into A Wearable Brand ARTICLE BY MARIA DINOIA | PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED

LOCA L LIM E LIGH T | S HOPPIN G
We moved to Tennessee three years ago. It was really about community, surrounding ourselves around big dreamers, and finding somewhere we felt good raising a family. It felt like home a lot faster than either of us expected.
How did TN Hat come to be? JD: I wanted a great hat to wear here. But I didn’t feel like I’d earned a cowboy hat yet, and there wasn’t really an iconic hat that represented Tennessee the way other hats do. I remember seeing people on stage wearing LA and NY hats and just thinking, 'What is the hat in Tennessee for creatives?' So we decided to make one ourselves. I threw my first art show in Franklin as a Tennessean, and I ran a hundred hats as a test run. They sold out. And it wasn’t just that people bought them; it was how they reacted to them. That reaction is what told us we were onto something real. We realized we weren’t just making a hat. We were creating a symbol people could wear to express their love for Tennessee and the creative spirit that’s always been part of this state. It was a sense of belonging.

What drew you specifically to headwear?
JD: I’ve just always loved hats. I’m kind of obsessive about how one fits and feels on. But beyond that personal thing, a hat is one of the most visible places to wear something you’re proud of. People see it before almost anything else. Men, women, it doesn’t matter. Everyone can wear The TN Hat and make it their own. That felt important. We didn’t want this to be a product that only spoke to one type of person, but to everyone who loves this place.

Walk us through the creative process behind a new hat. JD: For me, it really starts with instinct more than a formula. The colorways, the hat profiles, the names, the logo details, most of that comes from what I’m personally drawn to first. Then I start thinking about what other people would get excited wearing it too, whether it’s something that makes them feel like they belong. HD: As I help expand the brand with Jase, I love hearing from our community for what they want next. They love to give us new ideas.
What do you think drives the enormous growth in the custom hat market? JD: I think fashion in general has become a way for people to show what they believe in and where they feel like they belong. A hat is small, but it says a lot about you. It’s a signal to other people about who you’re rocking with and what matters to you. So people aren’t just buying a hat anymore; they’re buying into something bigger than the product itself. And Tennessee has a really strong identity to offer right now. We all belong to something bigger than ourselves.
What has the response from the Middle Tennessee community been like? JD: Honestly, overwhelming. Both in how people connect with the hat emotionally and in the sales themselves. I can’t even count how many times someone has come up to me and said it’s their favorite hat they own now, or that it looks like it’s been around for a hundred years already, or that they bought five more just to give away to family and friends. We’re really grateful for how people have embraced it. It’s meant a lot more to us than I think people realize.
You recently secured a deal with the Tennessee Titans. How did that happen? JD: That one actually came from the Titans reaching out to us. They saw the alignment. We were both building brands meant to represent the entire state of Tennessee, and there was clearly momentum behind what we were doing. So they approached us about working together.

They’ve been genuinely great partners through the whole thing. We worked out a way for both of us to use the TN mark, and we have created the Field Pass collection of TN hats and products to sell in their team shop. It felt like a natural fit given what we’re both trying to build.
How do you two divide responsibilities running the business together? JD: Hillary is really the movement builder of the two of us. She’s the CEO in every sense. She keeps the team and the business moving forward with strategy and execution day to day. Constantly looking for new partners, wholesale opportunities and brand-building moments. She loves meeting new people and spreading the brand. I’m the CCO, so I’m focused on making sure the brand stays true to itself and that every product we put out is high quality, culturally relevant, and just looks right. Since this is our fourth business we have built together we have a few reps under our belt. We had to learn to create space in the team for each of our skills. We are both very passionate individuals and are at our best when I own the creative lane and Hillary
develops. It’s very life-giving for us to collaborate and expand on each other’s ideas. We have a lot of mutual respect.
Where is TN Hat headed from here? JD: New styles, new collaborations, a bigger vision, it’s all happening. We want to get this hat into every corner of the state, and we’re actively looking to team up with other brands and people who are shaping Tennessee culture right now. We’ve launched a “Wanted” campaign aiming to get icons like Dolly Parton in the hat. All the songwriters behind Morgan Wallen’s “TN” are wearing it. Now we just need to get it on Morgan. Hopefully, we see it on Nate Bargatze and Theo Von too. It’s going to happen; we just know it. The collaborations we’ve already done have been incredible, and honestly we’re just getting started. Less than 1 year old!! We’re really excited about all of the new drops we have in the future, including a performance line and a lot more products that continue celebrating Tennessee in fresh ways…tennis and golf, a premium line. Be looking out for them before they sell out. TNHat.Shop CONTINUED >

DEACON PHILLIPPE STARS IN BROTHER SAVE US, A POWERFUL NEW FILM DEBUTING AT NASHVILLE FILM FESTIVAL

FOR DEACON PHILLIPPE, BROTHER SAVE US WAS A STORY THAT IMMEDIATELY FELT PERSONAL. The actor, musician and first-time executive producer stars as Cole, a young man navigating family responsibility, personal sacrifice and the weight of protecting those he loves. Premiering at the Nashville Film Festival, the independent feature showcases Phillipe's performance both in front of the camera as well as his creative contributions behind the camera. Brother Save Us is an indie dystopian sci-fi drama that follows a 12-year-old boy in the Midwest who befriends an AI farmworker while his father is ill, causing tension with his older brother. "When I first read the script, it honestly felt like someone had found the words I’d never been able to," says Phillippe. "I have a little brother that I love more than anything, and there are so many things you feel for someone like that that are almost impossible to put into language. {Director} Jesse found a way to put that unconditional love on the page so beautifully that I knew exactly how far Cole would go for his brother because I know how far I’d go for mine." While the circumstances facing Cole are far more dramatic than his own life, Phillippe found the character's emotional arc relatable. "I think I felt that Cole, while he had much harder choices and things to carry than I ever had, just the way that he handled that and how in the end, his story is about learning that it's about what you do and being open
with the people around you about your struggles that is going to help you ultimately find the courage to save them." In addition to starring in the film, Phillippe also serves as an executive producer for the first time. Although he is quick to credit writer-director Jesse Edwards and producer Caroline Stephens for establishing the film's vision, he appreciated being welcomed into the creative process from the very beginning. "It was an incredibly involved project between me and Jesse and Caroline," he says. "And I'm so honored that they wanted to have such lengthy discussions about characters and asked for my input in so many ways, and that they had the curiosity and humility to invite me in on that process was the biggest honor of my life." Some of his favorite moments came after filming had wrapped."I would say I had the most fun sitting in on sound mixes and giving notes on edits and music," he says. The experience of serving as an executive producer has already influenced how Phillippe hopes to approach future acting projects. "I think, first of all, in any type of acting, you want to be as involved with the storytelling as you can so that if you really care about a character you can vouch for them in the filmmaking process or bring your own humanity into it." More importantly, it sparked a new creative ambition. "Getting to work so closely with the team behind the film, it's really inspired me personally to want to write my own films and produce my own films in the future. Just be on all facets of the storytelling." When asked whether he prefers acting or producing, Phillippe doesn't see a distinction. "I think in a weird way, there's something magical or similar about both. I think that if someone could do it better than me in front of the camera, I'd love to be behind the camera. But it's all about heart and just trying to get that across." The film's premiere at the Nashville Film Festival holds special meaning for Phillippe, who moved to Nashville when he was 15. "It truly means so much," he says. "I think when I first heard about the opportunity to show the movie there, I was just really taken CONTINUED >

back by the reality of Nashville being such a story-driven town, but also an underdog driven town." He sees many parallels between Nashville's music community and the independent filmmaking world. "You have so many people working their butt off playing in bars musically. And it's a dreamer's town. And I think the people behind our movie and the people in our movie are all characters that aspire to tell their story and put their heart on their sleeve in an artistic way. And that just feels so natural to me." Music also plays an important role in Brother Save Us, extending beyond the film's score to its original end-credit song, "Fork In Our Road." Phillippe co-wrote and performed the track alongside Oscar Cellura and Jaden Miller after receiving an unexpected invitation on the final day of filming to write the track.
But preparing for the role required more than memorizing lines. Before filming began, Phillippe spent months working alongside the farmers whose lives inspired the story. "I worked closely with the farmers on the farm that we shot on for months before we started filming," he says. "And I just saw firsthand how great of a stressor and how big of a deal farming is for our livelihood as people. We spent a lot of time talking about what can go wrong on the farm. And there's a lot of things. There's pests, infections, weather, but then when you're really out there and you're looking out at the sunset and there's fireflies flying over the crop and you stare out, you realize why farmers will go to this length to protect and to hold onto their land. It was magical." Phillippe hopes to continue blending his passions for acting, filmmaking and music while telling stories rooted in genuine human experiences. "My main goal is to bring them all together in any way I can. But I think the stories I'm interested in telling next are very similar to Brother Save Us. Stories that make us think about humanity, but also connect with the basics of daily life and how complicated our lives can all be." @deaconphillippe
A Q & A WITH DIRECTOR JESSE BEHRENWALD THIS IS A VERY PERSONAL FILM FOR YOU. TELL ME WHAT WAS IT LIKE RETURNING TO THE FARM THAT YOU GREW UP ON, BUT THIS TIME AS A DIRECTOR? It's definitely a full circle moment. I feel like I dreamed up this story sitting in my family tractors doing long drives with my brothers on the farm. And so it was very surreal to be able to come home and do it. And I was so grateful that my family helped on the film a lot. My brothers drove tractors, helped with the farming logistics. My sister was a PA. My mom catered a lot of the food, so it was a full team effort. WHAT DID THE FARMER'S BOOTCAMP PROCESS UNLOCK FOR THE ACTOR'S PERFORMANCES? From a practical standpoint, they learned how to drive farm equipment. Deacon drove tractors. My brother taught him how to drive a stick-shift grain truck. Deacon was awesome and did all his own stunts, so that was cool from a practical standpoint. I think
just getting to spend time with my brothers, my family on the farm, and the people that work on the farm and absorbing their way of life and how they see agriculture, see growing crops, see how they provide for people from a food standpoint and their respect for the land was super helpful. I think getting a sense of brotherhood on a farm was essential. And I think also Deacon, Thomas, and Chandler all got to work together, which brought a natural bond for filming. The camaraderie helped with understanding the farm, and helped with being comfortable with each other on set even more. HOW DID THE DECISION TO CAPTURE GENUINE FARMING DURING A REAL HARVEST SHAPE THE VISUAL LANGUAGE OF THE MOVIE? It was interesting because sometimes when you film, you film out of order for production logistics or for whatever reason. Maybe you film the middle of the movie first or whatever, but because we had an actual harvest happening, we had to film it in basically chronological order because at some point there was a full harvest and the crops were gone in the background. So we couldn't do it out of order because that would've looked very weird. So it led to kind of a cool thing, which you don't get to do a lot in film, which is have it a little bit more linear and chronological and see the characters grow as we progress through the set. You planted these crops and then now it's time to hopefully reap the benefits of that and get to provide some crops and food to people. So it was cool for that to be happening while we were filming a movie. CONTINUED >

BROTHER SAVE US IS REFERRED TO AS A DYSTOPIAN SCI-FI DRAMA, WHICH KIND OF DOESN'T PAIR WITH A RURAL SETTING ON A FARM. HOW DID THOSE TWO WORLDS COME TOGETHER AND WHAT MADE THE FAMILY FARM FEEL LIKE THE RIGHT BACKDROP FOR A STORY ABOUT THE FUTURE? I think I've always been a big fan of dystopian fictional movies like Children of Men - they were really influential on me. I love the book The Road by Cormac McCarthy, which is kind of dystopian fiction, but also on a very rural landscape. The movie lends itself a little bit to the Western Americana stories where it's a little bit of the slow burn that builds into big action and big sci-fi. I think for me, farming technology is also way more advanced than a lot of people who are not familiar with agriculture realize. On farms a lot of times, and now on my family farm they use GPS to drive the tractors and they can set it up and it has the whole field mapped out. And some people use drones to spray crops for chemicals, and there's all these advancements that almost feel like a sci-fi movie if you're not expecting it or not used to it, so I think that's where that came from. And I think I've always thought that sci-fi in its best use is able to talk about themes that maybe are an unconventional but an exciting way to talk about them. HOW DID PRODUCER (AND FIANCÉE!) CAROLINE OHLSEN'S, AN MIT GRADUATE, PERSPECTIVE AND EXPERTISE SHAPE THE WAY THE FILM APPROACHES THE THEME OF AI AND HUMAN RELATIONSHIPS? MIT is kind of the hub of AI in a lot of ways. So that was super fascinating while we were working on this to be just ingrained in that culture and hearing about AI. And it was things that I was speculating on or worried about or not worried about depending on how I looked at it, but how AI would interact with human relationships. And I think when I first started writing this, I saw only the negative and the scary parts of AI, of them saying whatever is perfect to people at the perfect times. And I think that was a fear for me: what if AI could be a perfect brother or a perfect family member when humans are not perfect? But there are benefits that we're starting to hear about too, of AI helping with elderly people when they're lonely. And so it made me think about it from a full head and heart. And for her, it was also about the scene, how relevant the themes are that we were talking about, even though it's a futuristic movie. HOW DO YOU DETERMINE WHERE A FILM PREMIERES? WHY THE NASHVILLE FILM FESTIVAL? We're still sorting out the premiere at this stage, but I think for Nashville, it was a really great fit because for Deacon, it was a return home. I think he's had a special experience in Nashville, and I think we loved Nashville's historic programming. And I think Nashville also has a great balance of film and music, and music was a really important part of this film. Deacon wrote an end-credit song that is so moving to me and was one of those things that was no notes required. He sent us his first version of it and we just were like, "This is everything we want the movie to be
76
B ACK STAGE | ENTERTAI N ME N T
and represent." So that was super special. And we also put a lot of effort and time and care into our film score, which is composed by a woman named Carla Patullo, who's a multi-Grammy winning song musician in her own right. And so she came to the set and really absorbed the lifestyle of farming and picked up all these interesting recordings of things that happened on a farm from engines humming to things that happen inside of a silo and how that could sound if you warp it into an interesting sci-fi way. It was a really sonically and musically driven process. So it felt like a great fit for Nashville. THIS IS YOUR FEATURE FILM DEBUT. WHAT ARE YOU MOST PERSONALLY EXCITED ABOUT FOR THIS FILM? It's a personal film because it's a story about brotherhood and farming, which is so much of what I grew up. But I also love dystopian and action films, and I hope that people take away the action and the dystopian cool sci-fi elements of it. And they're also able to take away a more human relationship -- emotions of the brothers and maybe look at the lens of farming from a different perspective if they haven't thought a lot about it and the people that sacrifice so much to grow food for our way of life.

Nashville Film Festival, one of the country's longest-running festivals, is set to return to Music City for its 57th edition September 24–30. The week-long festival will present nearly 150 films from around the world. The festival announced its first three titles, each carrying its own special connection to Tennessee: Frampton, a portrait of rock icon and Nashville resident Peter Frampton; The Lorraine, Sam Pollard's documentary on Memphis's Lorraine Motel; and Little Hollywood, Tennessee, a coming-of-age story following the high school filmmakers of the Tennessee Governor's School for the Arts. Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Peter Frampton will appear in person on the festival's Opening Night for a post-screening discussion, while Emmy-winning director Sam Pollard will join a post-screening discussion of his film alongside writer and executive producer Alvin D. Hall. This year's festival will unfold across some of Nashville's most distinctive venues, including the National Museum of African American Music, Belcourt Theatre, Hooky Entertainment at the Nashville Yards, Regal Green Hills and more. The week will include filmmaker Q&As, industry panels, and parties connecting creatives, industry members, and film fans. NashvilleFilmFestival.org S EP TEMB ER 2 0 2 6 | C I TYL I FE STYL E . In an era where genuine connections are becoming increasingly rare, the Fairington community is being thoughtfully designed and built around one key concept: belonging. Nestled among the rolling hills of Nolensville, just 30 minutes south of Nashville, this new master-planned community from award-winning developer Southern Land Company is taking shape one front porch at a time. At its heart, Fairington is designed to create meaningful connections and everyday opportunities for engagement, brought to life through beautiful gathering spaces, curated experiences, and a dedicated Lifestyle Manager focused on bringing neighbors together. Prospective homebuyers can now experience Fairington firsthand by touring two professionally furnished model homes, offering an immersive look at the craftsmanship, architecture, and community taking shape there.
A club-centered lifestyle, woven into everyday life At the center of Fairington are The Residents’ Club and Village Commons, which will introduce a gathering place designed to enrich everyday life through connection, wellness, dining, recreation, and robust programming. Scheduled to open later this year, the Residents’ Club will be the social and cultural heart of the community, where residents can move easily from morning fitness to afternoon recreation to evening gatherings with neighbors and friends. On a typical evening, that vacation-inspired lifestyle reveals itself in simple ways. A few neighbors linger on the clubhouse porch as the sun begins to set. Children run playfully between the lawn and the pool. Someone arrives for a wine tasting and stays for the conversation that follows. Nothing staged. Nothing forced.
Just the natural rhythm of people enjoying their community. Mornings may begin with a walk to the fitness studio, coffee at the Residents’ Club, or a wellness class. Afternoons unfold with a pickleball match, a yoga session, lounging poolside beneath a canopy of trees, or a workshop that brings neighbors together around a shared interest. Evenings bring people back to the event lawn and around the fire pit, where neighbors gather to embrace a lifestyle centered on wellness, recreation, and belonging. This is not an amenity layered onto the neighborhood. It is the crown jewel of Fairington itself. The Residents’ Club is designed for connections on every level. It is where everyday moments begin to feel shared. A place where a book club meets, creativity flows in the art room, a concert draws neighbors together, and seasonal celebrations become traditions. The result is a close-knit neighborhood where friendships flourish and community is woven into daily life. Designed with intention, built for belonging Fairington is the newest master-planned community from Southern Land Company, the nationally recognized, full-service developer behind Westhaven in Franklin and several of the region’s most celebrated neighborhoods. layouts for gathering, and quiet corners that offer a sense of retreat. Each home at Fairington is built by the developer’s homebuilding arm, SLC Homes. You feel it in the streets: garages set behind homes, landscaping that softens each edge, and ample lighting that provides a sense of security. You notice it in the way the neighborhood comes together, with planners, architects, and horticulturists working as one team to create a destination that is cohesive, walkable, and enduring. Every element works together to create a vibrant sense of connection and belonging. A neighborhood that grows with you Fairington has been planned with a clear understanding that life changes. Homes range from townhomes and cottages to larger single-family residences, offering flexibility for different stages and priorities. For some, it is a beginning. For others, a shift toward something more connected and simplified. For many residents, Fairington also answers a deeply personal question: how to simplify without moving away from family,
activities, or a sense of place. Located in Williamson County, this area offers the opportunity to live closer to adult children and grandchildren, making everyday visits, school programs, family dinners, and weekends together part of daily life. Life at Fairington doesn't require sacrificing comfort or location. It is centered on choosing a home where memories can be made, maintenance isn't overwhelming, and connection, wellness, convenience, and family are easily accessible. At the center of it all, the Village Commons will bring daily life closer to home. Planned cafés, neighborhood retail, and gathering spaces will create a natural extension of the club lifestyle, giving residents more reasons to engage and connect with visitors from greater Middle Tennessee. A future on-site Williamson County elementary school adds another layer of connection and convenience, allowing children to safely walk or bike to school. It's becoming a place where new friendships form on front porches, traditions take root around shared experiences, and wellness in daily life is more attainable through easy connections to people and place, including the children, grandchildren, and neighbors who make the community unique. O UR TOWN | S HO P P I NG
Franklin is a destination steeped in history, so it’s only fitting that your souvenir is a piece of history itself. Here, you can find centuries-old pieces imported from Europe, dazzling jewelry passed down for generations, and whimsical one-of-a-kind tchotchkes from dedicated antique stores around the county. But, don’t stop there. One of the beautiful things about living in Williamson County is that treasures have a way of getting a second (and third, and fourth) life in local thrift stores. Some of my most beloved pieces were stumbled upon, tucked between racks of retired clothes and dated dishware. From full sets of china to a designer bag or a vintage vase, here’s where to dig for buried treasure in Williamson County.
GRACEWORKS
Start here. Trust me. GraceWorks is a massive warehouse-style thrift store with two sides: one is dedicated to clothing and accessories, with a special “influencer’s closet” section for extra special pieces. There are a few sections of knick-knacks sprinkled throughout, like fine china and home decor, and I’ve found many a piece with tags and packaging intact. The second side is filled with furniture, art, kitchen essentials, and linens. But perhaps the coolest part of the whole space is the dedicated antiques section on this side: tables and bookshelves towering with donated items from dolls to dishes, wedding dresses, vases, frames, records, playing cards, and more, all designated antique, are collected in one central location for premier pickin’. Pro tip: everything is half price on the second Saturday of the month!
THE FIND
Located in the Factory at Franklin (an antique itself!), The Find focuses on cool vintage clothing. You can find old sports memorabilia, like that one time the Nashville Predators made a run for the Stanley Cup, faded tees with kitschy phrases, as well as handbags, accessories, and other quirky treasures.
H A B I TAT F O R HUMANIT Y RESTORE
A model that deviates a bit from the others on the list, Habitat for Humanity’s Restore is a combination of items donated by the community and donated by big box stores and contractors with extra materials. So, the showroom floor stays stocked with new and gently used discounted items you could buy down the road at a retailer for full price.
PA LM E R K E N N E DY This consignment boutique in the heart of downtown Franklin has something for lovers of both new and old. Palmer Kennedy’s two sides include one with new inventory, notably with lots of faith-based apparel and accessories, while the consignment side has a continuous flow of great pieces, including high-end designer and unexpected treasures.
ANTIQUE MALLS
Of course, if you’re looking for a more curated collection of antiques, you can find those here, too. In the downtown Franklin area, walk to Winchester Antique Mall on Second Avenue North for traditional 19th-century English and early American furniture, fine silver, Persian rugs, and more, then to T. Nesbitt & Co. for an ever-changing assortment of items from indoor furnishings to outdoor iron furniture. On the other side of Main, Franklin Antique Mall, in the old ice house on Second Avenue South, blends all of that with an even broader selection of antiques and collectibles from 60+ dealers. In historic Leiper’s Fork, seek out Props Antiques for industrial items, farmhouse style, old advertising pieces, interesting memorabilia, and more. Then, head east to Arrington for a stop at Three French Hens, a shabby chic shop full of unique finds, period-inspired decor, and fun gift items. On your way back to town, swing over to Nolensville’s The Village Antiques & Gifts, known for antique flatware, china patterns, crystal, and other finery for the table. The Find

safety never goes out of style
Parents often enroll their children in swim lessons for one simple reason: water safety. While learning to swim is one of the most important life skills a child can develop, Lincoln Walden, owner of Goldfish Swim School Franklin, says the greatest transformation often happens before a child ever masters a stroke. In a world where trends come and go, one thing never goes out of style: safety. Since opening Goldfish Swim School Franklin in 2019, Walden has witnessed countless moments that demonstrate how swim lessons can change a child's life. One story, in particular, has stayed with him. "We had one child who would experience anxiety attacks upon entering the building. With patience, dedication and resilience from both the family and our team, he worked his way up to sitting on the pool deck in just a few weeks. Now, his fears have been conquered and he’s swimming independently with our team once a week!"
“Every lesson reinforces the message that effort leads to growth, helping children trust

That transformation is exactly why Goldfish Swim School focuses on far more than swimming skills. "Swim lessons give children the opportunity to foster new friendships and strengthen their interpersonal skills, leading to improved communication, listening and teamwork abilities. These lessons teach children how to conquer their fears, overcome challenges and build resilience. Our team at Goldfish Swim School utilizes a research-backed, pediatrician-approved curriculum to create a nurturing, empowering environment." For many children, learning to swim begins with overcoming a fear of the water. Rather than rushing the process, instructors focus on helping each child build confidence at a pace that's right for them. "Goldfish Swim School recognizes that fear of the water is a normal part of learning for many children. Some of the ways Goldfish Swim School supports this journey include play-based learning, small class sizes, positive reinforcement and a warm welcoming environment with experienced and caring instructors. By creating a fun, nurturing atmosphere where children are encouraged to progress at their own pace, Goldfish Swim School helps many young swimmers transform initial apprehension into comfort and a lifelong love of the water." Those milestones are built through consistent encouragement and celebrating every success, no matter how small. "Our play-based curriculum is designed to help children progress at their own pace, celebrating along the way. From putting their face in the water for the first time to mastering a new swim skill, our experienced instructors create a safe, supportive, and encouraging environment where mistakes are viewed as part of the learning process. By providing positive reinforcement, individualized instruction, and consistent encouragement, we help children understand that challenges can be overcome with practice and persistence. Parents often discover those lessons don't end when class is over. "Many Goldfish families share that the benefits of swimming lessons extend well beyond the pool. Parents often notice increased independence, improved focus and listening and enhanced social skills." For families whose children may feel hesitant about swim lessons, Walden encourages patience. “Every child progresses at their own pace, and instructors are trained to meet swimmers where they are. For many families, the greatest milestone isn't just learning to swim, it's watching a child discover that they are capable of more than they ever imagined." GoldfishSwimSchool.com/franklin/

As travelers increasingly embrace experiential travel and slower-paced getaways, Tennessee stands out as an analog travel treasure trove, inviting visitors to unplug from their screens and reconnect through hands-on experiences that leave a lasting impression. Whether learning traditional Appalachian crafts in the Great Smoky Mountains or embarking on a multi-day kayaking adventure along the Mississippi River, visitors will find immersive opportunities to learn new skills, engage with local culture and create souvenirs rooted in personal expression. Craft-cations and Art Workshops: Canvas Queen Needlepoint takes the meditative art of needlepointing to the next level. In addition to beginner-level workshops and decorative classes, they offer “Stitch Retreats” in the Smoky Mountains. Located at the charming and historic RT Lodge, guests are invited to leave the world behind for a weekend and stitch to their heart’s content. Open-play Mahjong tournaments are also held at their brick-and-mortar store in Knoxville. Historical hobby classes are taught throughout the year at Cordell Hull Birthplace State Park in Byrdstown. Connect to Tennessee’s heritage through blacksmithing, basket-weaving, butter-churning, and nature journaling workshops. In addition, the park provides further glimpses of days gone by through a preserved log cabin and the surrounding scenic beauty. Persevering traditional Appalachian methods, Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts is a nationally recognized arts campus in Gatlinburg, seated at the gateway of the Great Smoky Mountains. Experiment with natural dyeing, woodturning, printmaking, silk painting, and vessel sculpting—just scratching the surface of the creative possibilities. With over 200 creative experiences offered each year-- workshop mediums and lengths vary, but the goal of enriching lives through art remains the same. Give creativity texture at Tuft-It!, a vibrant rug-making studio in Goodlettsville. Design a personalized rug and watch it come to life with guided instruction along the way. Crafters can choose between a small rug or a large rug workshop and leave with two things: a sense of accomplishment and a sensory keepsake. CONTINUED >

Culinary Experiences: Experience double-artisan-trouble at Pretentious Glass Co., a one-of-a-kind glass studio and brewery in Knoxville. Get in the hot shop with the seasoned staff of craftspeople and learn the art of glassblowing. After you’ve made your own drinking glass, sample experimental, in-house brews next door at Pretentious Beer Co. Find an entirely new appreciation for glassware in a way that requires you to sit back and savor the possibilities. Become a sommelier of serenity at Crown Winery’s creekside location in Leiper’s Fork. Here, guests kick off their shoes, wade barefoot into the creek, and sip award-winning wines by the glass, flight, or bottle. On summer evenings, acoustic musicians serenade from the creek banks, creating a laid-back experience that perfectly captures the art of slowing down. Savor a self-guided tasting or hone your palate through a staff-led experience at the indoor bar.

What began as a TikTok discovery has quickly grown into one of Williamson County's most unique nights out. Kelly-Marie Gabele, owner of Nashville's chapter of The Social Greenhouse, first stumbled across Plant Bingo while scrolling social media. The original concept, created by a couple in Dallas, immediately caught her attention. "I went looking for Plant Bingo in my own area. Couldn't find one, so I thought it would be fun to host it myself," says Gabele. "I've spent over twenty years in events and performance, so a room full of people laughing, connecting, and leaving with a new plant baby in hand felt like the most brilliant idea, and I knew it belonged in Nashville." After connecting with the founders, Gabele became the first Social Greenhouse chapter outside of Dallas, bringing the concept to Middle Tennessee. The concept itself is simple, but explaining what makes it work is where Gabele lights up. "Plant Bingo here is Nash! It's normal bingo, well, as normal as bingo can be with a British host, except you're playing to win beautiful plants, with about two hours of fun and entertainment along the way," she says. "It's $30 for two hours, and everyone walks away with a plant, whether you win or not."
A native of Portsmouth, England, Gabele moved to Franklin five years ago after meeting her husband, Brent, at a marathon at Walt Disney World. Plant Bingo has become one more way she fulfills a personal mission that runs through everything she does. "I suppose if there's a common thread through everything I do, it's this: I want to help people feel great and live life to the fullest," she says. "Plant Bingo is just two hours of pure fun with like-minded people in the middle of a normal grind week." That focus on connection is evident from the moment guests arrive. What has surprised Gabele most isn't the popularity of houseplants. It's the number of people who attend alone. "I'm really surprised by the amount of single women that are buying tickets and coming on their own," she says. "One lady who has attended multiple events has actually made friends through Plant Bingo. That's what I want." Communal seating often encourages conversations among strangers, and those conversations frequently continue long after the event ends. Guests have even reached out afterward hoping to reconnect with people they met at their tables. For Gabele, those moments are every bit as rewarding as a sold-out event.
The audience is diverse: families and children, girls' nights out, couples on date nights, men flying solo, plant enthusiasts, curious beginners and regulars who never miss a round. "Honestly, whether you've got a full jungle at home or you've killed every succulent you've ever owned, there's a seat at the table for you." CONTINUED >

Community support extends beyond the attendees. All plants are sourced from Desert & Vine, an East Nashville plant shop owned by Rachel Ligtenberg, whom Gabele credits as an essential partner. "I just really wanted this to be about community," she says. "I want to help small businesses." Plant Bingo events have been hosted at venues including Black Dog Pub, Curio Brewing Company, Crazy Gnome Brewery and the Skylight Bar at The Factory at Franklin. The partnerships benefit everyone involved: venues fill seats on slower nights, guests discover local businesses, and Plant Bingo creates a memorable experience built around fun rather than competition. Looking ahead, Gabele hopes to continue expanding throughout the region with additional events each week. "It's about so much more than just my business," she says. "It's a win-win for everyone involved." Ask Gabele about her favorite part of the week and she'll tell you it's the stranger who walked in alone and left with a table full of new friends. And, of course, a plant. Tickets: thesocialgreenhouse.com/nashville @social.greenhouse.nsh

The most memorable gatherings aren't defined by elaborate menus or expensive bottles of wine. They're remembered for something far more meaningful. According to Laura Huston, owner of Belle & Bottle and Wildroot Farm, true hospitality is about creating an experience that leaves guests feeling welcomed, valued, and connected. "The truth is, guests rarely remember the exact wine you poured or the precise dish you served. What they carry with them is a feeling and the sense that someone took the time and care to make an evening special just for them," Huston says. She sees this firsthand during the farm dinners hosted at Wildroot Farm, where guests gather around the table surrounded by the beauty of the countryside. For those looking to celebrate a milestone or host an unforgettable private gathering without the work of entertaining at home, Wildroot Farm also offers a one-of-a-kind setting where Laura and her team help create an elevated, memorable experience. "Food and wine become the vessel for that feeling. Years later, you might not recall every detail of the meal, but you'll remember who sat across from you, the conversation that lingered past dessert,
and the warmth of that particular evening. The host is really giving people a memory wrapped around a table." When selecting wine, Huston encourages hosts to think less about rigid pairing rules and more about the people they're serving. "I don't think about wine selection as a set of rules to follow, I think about it as reading the room." She considers the season, the setting and the guests before choosing bottles, favoring approachable wines that appeal to a variety of tastes over niche selections. "That's the real skill: paying attention to your guests rather than chasing a score on a bottle." And for those who aren't sure where to start, she offers simple advice: "Enlist a professional. Tell them the occasion and the crowd, and let them help guide the selection." At Belle & Bottle, every gathering begins with a thoughtful gesture. "We always start our events with a glass of sparkling wine the moment guests walk in, a small gesture that says welcome and sets the tone for the whole evening." From there, Huston believes it's the personal touches—a beautifully set table, flowers or even a handwritten note—that make guests feel genuinely cared for. CONTINUED >

For wine pairings, Huston believes simplicity wins every time. "My biggest advice is not to overthink it or feel like every dish demands an exact match." Instead, she follows one guiding principle: weight. Lighter dishes naturally pair with lighter wines, while heartier meals can support fuller-bodied selections. Choosing versatile wines also allows hosts to spend less time worrying about pairings and more time enjoying the company around the table. Luxury entertaining, she says, isn't about extravagance. "The touches that elevate an evening the most aren't about spending more." Whether it's sharing a meaningful bottle of wine from a memorable trip, offering guests a small takeaway gift or personalizing part of the experience, those thoughtful details leave the greatest impression. "It's quiet, not ostentatious. It's not about walking away impressed by how much money was spent, it's about feeling like someone thought carefully about you specifically and wanted you there." Above all, Huston believes every bottle has a story worth sharing. "My one piece of advice would be this: every great bottle of wine comes with a story, and the best hosts weave their own story into the evening itself." When hosts share those stories, they create something lasting. "And that is what stays with them long after the last glass is poured. Not the price of the bottle, but the story behind it, and the feeling of having been let into something real." BelleAndBottle.com

There’s nothing quite like gathering around the table with the people I love the most. Creating an environment that makes everyone feel special is one of my favorite parts of our get togethers. When I can, I like to take a little time to dress up the table just a smidge more than usual. I want it to make everyone excited to take a seat, dive into some great food, and know how glad I am that they’re here. I’ll be entertaining my favorite people this Labor Day weekend, the unofficial end of summer. We’ll be celebrating in our favorite way with plenty of grilling, eating, corn holing, fly swatting, and sipping of cold beverages. I bet you have some version of the same plans. It’s also a time for us to pay tribute to the people who over a century ago contributed to America’s prosperity. Inspire a little patriotism on the party table by subtly weaving in some red, white, and blue touches. You don’t have to be that on theme or spend a lot of money to create an atmosphere that honors our nation’s heritage. Arrange blue hydrangeas or red roses from the grocery store in vases you already have. Tie basic white cloth napkins with red ribbon. Use the “good” plates and glasses to make things a little more special. Serve a fabulous meal. Most importantly, keep in mind these are the things that draw your guests in and show you care, but the good time and laughs will be what they remember most.
HONEY BASIL VINAIGRETTE Makes 1 cup • 1 cup packed fresh basil leaves • 3 tablespoons honey • ¼ cup white balsamic vinegar • 1 ½ tablespoons fresh lemon juice • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard • 1 tablespoon finely chopped shallot • ½ teaspoon salt • ¼ teaspoon pepper • ¼ cup extra virgin olive oil • ¼ cup vegetable oil DIRECTIONS: 1. In a blender, combine all ingredients except oils. Blend on high until nearly smooth. 2. Slowly pour in oils while blender is running. Blend until smooth.
FAREWELL TO SUMMER SALAD Makes 6 servings A fresh and bright addition to a patriotic gathering, this salad celebrates the final fruits and vegetables of the season. It makes the perfect side dish for grilled meats, fish, or even burgers. SALAD INGREDIENTS: • 6 cups mixed salad greens • 1 ½ cups cubed watermelon • 1 ½ cups sliced strawberries • 1 cup blueberries • 6 asparagus spears, blanched and sliced into 2-inch pieces • ¾ cup crumbled goat or feta cheese • 1/2 cup toasted sliced almonds • Honey Basil Vinaigrette DIRECTIONS: 1. Toss together salad greens, fruits, and asparagus. Gently toss in goat or feta cheese and almonds. Serve with Honey Basil Vinaigrette. S EP TEMB ER 2 0 2 6 | C I TYL I FE STYL E . Hometown Proud TAE LEWIS IS BRINGING OLD SCHOOL COUNTRY BACK
ARTICLE BY MARIA DINOIA PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED
Tae Lewis doesn't need to reinvent country music. He just needs to remind you what made you love it in the first place. With a sound he describes as a blend of Eddie Rabbitt and Rascal Flatts, a viral social media following, and a new music video that is turning heads across the industry, the independent country artist is making a name for himself
FOR FANS JUST DISCOVERING YOU, HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR SOUND?
For the new fans who are just discovering me, "Hey y'all." My sound is very 90s/early 2000s country. I classify myself as a blend of Eddie Rabbitt and Rascal Flatts.

"SOONER OR LATER, THE PERSEVERANCE IS GOING TO PAY OFF TO LEAD TO SUCCESS." WHAT DOES "OLD SCHOOL COUNTRY" MEAN TO YOU PERSONALLY?
Old school country means classic and hometown nostalgia. I grew up in Goldsboro, NC, around an era of country music that really built the foundation of everything vintage and classic to me.
WALK US THROUGH THE VISION BEHIND THE VIDEO FOR "OLD SCHOOL COUNTRY TUNE." WHAT DO YOU WANT AUDIENCES TO FEEL WHEN THEY WATCH IT FOR THE FIRST TIME?
As I began thinking of how I wanted to create this music video, I wanted to build a vision around the good ol' vintage country feel. I wanted to make sure the venue we chose to do the music video had a classic country feel to it, and reminded me of bars at home in my hometown and near my hometown. As we began to put things together with the venue, I wanted to have a feel of people enjoying the music in the background. So I chose to get some dancers to really chase that feel of straight 90s country. As my fans are watching this music video, I want them to take away a lot of nostalgia but also learn a piece of what I grew up with.
THE VIDEO FEATURES ACTORS FROM "YELLOWSTONE" AND "TULSA KING" AS WELL AS COUNTRY MUSIC HITMAKER JAMIE O'NEAL. HOW DID THOSE COLLABORATIONS COME TOGETHER?
Having Mr. Forrie and Mr. Mike in my music video was such a blessing to me. I got the call from my manager that he had the idea to have them in the music video. At first, I thought they would say no but they insisted on helping because they loved the vision behind the video and loved the song. Jamie has been a great friend of mine for many years now. Since she completely understood what 90s country looked like, I wanted her to be the last piece of the puzzle as a feature for the video.

GARY LEVOX {OF RASCAL FLATTS} COMMENTED ON ONE OF YOUR PERFORMANCE VIDEOS WITH "BRO, YOU ALWAYS KILL IT." WHAT DOES THAT KIND OF RECOGNITION FROM A FELLOW ARTIST MEAN TO YOU?
It was a complete shock when I got the notification. It just truly showed me that I'm right where I'm supposed to be in this genre and I'm so grateful to be in this community of great singers like Gary and to also get the accreditation from him is priceless. CONTINUED >

HOW DO YOU DEFINE SUCCESS AT THIS POINT IN YOUR CAREER?
I believe success is perseverance. It honestly means to never give up and to never get blindsided on the vision or calling that God has on your life. Sooner or later, the perseverance is going to pay off to lead to success.
WHAT'S NEXT FOR YOU — NEW MUSIC, MORE TOURING, BIGGER STAGES?
On September 18th, I will be releasing a new album that will consist of songs I've had in the vault for about three years now. The team and I are currently working on getting some tour dates to build around the album release as well as working with local and national companies in helping promote their brands as well.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT FRANKLIN?
What I most love about Franklin is the history behind it. It's inspiring, and it just gives me a chance to hang out and have fun and enjoy life. I also love the farming and hiking scenery. Franklin has two of my favorite spots to hike. I'm usually very active while I’m on the road and at home. One of my favorite places to hike is Garrison Creek Park and Preservation Park, which are in Thompson's Station but are very close to Franklin. @taelewis_ TaeLewis.com

THE NEW AMERICAN DREAM IS Staying Put WHY FAMILIES ARE INVESTING IN THE HOMES THEY ALREADY LOVE
For many families, the American dream no longer means buying a bigger house. Instead, it means creating a home that will serve their family for decades to come. As higher interest rates and rising home prices reshape the housing market, more homeowners are choosing to stay where their memories have been made. Rather than moving, they are investing in preserving and improving the homes they already love. One of the most important investments often begins with the roof. "I've definitely seen a shift over the last several years," says Brandon Cronkhite, owner of Red Beard Roofing, LLC. "With higher interest rates, rising home prices, and the overall cost of living increasing, many families have decided that staying in the home they already love makes more financial sense than moving. Because of that, homeowners are looking at their roofs as long term investments rather than short term expenses." That shift has changed how homeowners approach roofing. Instead of focusing on the lowest price, they are asking how today's decisions will protect their homes for decades. They want quality materials, proper ventilation,

dependable warranties, and expert installation that will maximize the life of their investment. For Cronkhite, a roof is about much more than shingles. "I've always believed a roof is the most important investment a homeowner can make because it protects everything they work so hard for," he says. "It's not just shingles on a house. It's what keeps your family safe, protects your biggest asset, and gives you peace of mind every time a storm rolls through. A quality roof done right today can save homeowners from major headaches and expenses for years to come, which is why we never cut corners and always treat every home like it's our own." Homeowners also tend to wait too long before addressing roofing concerns. "One of the biggest

Brandon Cronkhite
misconceptions homeowners have is that if their roof isn't leaking, everything is fine," Cronkhite says. "In reality, by the time you notice a leak inside your home, damage may have already been occurring for quite some time." Routine inspections can identify small issues before they become expensive repairs. Missing shingles, granules in gutters, attic moisture, sagging rooflines, mold, water stains, and higher energy bills can all signal that a roof deserves professional attention. While quality materials are essential, Cronkhite believes craftsmanship ultimately determines how well a roof performs over time. "Even the highest quality materials can underperform if they are not installed correctly. Proper installation affects water management, wind resistance, ventilation performance, manufacturer warranty compliance, and overall roof longevity." That commitment to quality extends beyond construction. One homeowner facing terminal cancer wanted the reassurance that her children would inherit a home restored after a devastating storm. Red Beard Roofing guided her through the insurance process, helping remove a major burden so she could focus on spending time with her family. "Moments like that remind us that roofing isn't just about shingles and construction materials," Cronkhite says. "It's about protecting what matters most and helping families prepare for the next chapter of life." As more Williamson County homeowners choose to stay where life has already happened, investing in quality craftsmanship is about more than protecting a house. It is about preserving the place where memories are made today and where future generations will continue to feel at home. RedBeardRoofing.com

A BLEND OF FASHION AND FUNCTION 130 FASH ION F OR WA R D | S HOPPIN G
A purse does more than hold your phone, keys, and wallet. It quietly pulls an outfit together while also handling the practical side of everyday life. That balance between fashion and function is what makes a great purse feel less like an accessory and more like part of a personal style. Some bags are designed to stand out. A bold color, metallic detail, or structured shape can instantly become the statement piece of an outfit. Even with simple jeans and a white T-shirt, the right purse adds personality and intention. Other times, a purse works best when it blends in. Neutral tones, soft leather, or minimalist designs create a polished look without stealing attention from the rest of the outfit. These subtle bags are often the ones people reach for every day because they work with almost everything. CONTINUED >

Of course, style only goes so far if a purse is impractical. The best bags are the ones that fit real life. A roomy tote helps someone move from work meetings to errands without missing a beat. Even a small clutch has a purpose for evenings out when only the essentials matter. Fashion trends may change every season, but the role of a purse stays the same. It adapts while still serving a purpose. That’s why people often invest in bags they truly love. A good purse is dependable, but it also can make a fashion statement. In many ways, a purse is one of the few accessories that people use every single day. It carries necessities, reflects personal style, and can completely change the tone of an outfit. Whether bold and eye-catching or simple and understated, a purse proves that fashion and function can exist beautifully together.

Combine all ingredients together and stir. Refrigerate for an hour or so (or longer) before serving. The drink can be enjoyed immediately, if desired, but the longer you let the ingredients sit and mix, the deeper the flavors will be. Giving it time to develop will make the drink more captivating and interesting.

COMBOS TO Try: CREATIVE COMBINATIONS THAT HIT DIFFERENT The Sophisticated Sweet: Nutella, sliced strawberries, and a drizzle of honey on brioche bread The Panini Perfection: Peanut butter, fresh blueberries, and marshmallow cream pressed between sourdough slices The Beautiful Mess: Your favorite nut butter topped with sliced fresh peaches, kiwi, or berries, then drizzled with golden honey or sprinkled with toasted coconut on thickcut bread The Grown-Up Classic: Almond butter, fig jam, and thinly sliced pears on multigrain bread The Breakfast Crossover: Cashew butter, sliced bananas, and a sprinkle of granola on cinnamon raisin bread The Tropical Twist: Coconut butter, mango preserves, and toasted coconut flakes on Hawaiian sweet bread The Chocolate Dream: Dark chocolate almond butter, raspberry preserves, and fresh mint leaves on whole wheat The Savory Surprise: Natural peanut butter, grape jelly, and a thin layer of cream cheese with everything bagel seasoning
PRO TIPS FOR LUNCHBOX SUCCESS Toast your bread lightly for extra texture, even if you’re making it ahead. Create a barrier with your spread to prevent soggy sandwiches—apply nut butter to both sides, then add your sweet elements in the middle. Pack fresh elements separately and assemble just before eating when possible. Cut into fun shapes with cookie cutters, wrap in parchment paper tied with twine, or pack in a bento box with complementary sides like apple slices, fancy crackers, or dark chocolate squares.
THE BOTTOM LINE An elevated PB&J proves that sometimes the best meals come from taking something familiar and making it special. These upgraded versions will have everyone asking for the recipe—and maybe even offering to trade lunches.
