“Justin is the best. You could not ask for a more knowledgeable estate attorney. He helped my father with his will and trust. We just finished my will and trust. He listens to everything you have to say, then comes up with a way to incorporate your needs and wants into legal terms. Thank you so much Justin. It was and is a pleasure to know you.” --Janis, Thompson Station, TN resident

Women Celebrating Women Our May issue is dedicated to celebrating the women in our lives. As I reflect on the many women in my life, I am thankful for each one and the impact they have made. One of the best qualities a woman can possess is having confidence with oneself, but at the same time, being able to see the beauty and talent in other women and call out greatness in them too. The stories you read in this issue are all written with women as the primary focus. Actress and singer Kristin Chenoweth, our cover story, shares how she was part of a new book to be released later this month, My Moment, a compilation of women's awakening stories when they answered the question 'What was the moment in your life when you first realized you were ready to fight for yourself?' Wow. We're also sharing stories of women who have made their mark in our community in one way or another. PR mogul Heather Adams, ice cream maven Claire Crowell and radio personality Amber Anderson are just a few of the women we salute. We recognize a few local entrepreneurs and women who are finding ways to give back to our community, like Cordia Harrington famously known as 'the bun lady' or Cathy Cardenas who developed a line of t-shirts whose proceeds benefit several charities. I always love putting together this issue. But it certainly made me think that women deserve to be recognized more than once a year. Women are the backbone of our society. Look around in your everyday life, think about the women who have made an impact, and ask yourself ‘What woman influenced me the most?’ Then, if possible, reach out to them and thank them for their impact on your life. Warmly,

High-Style Mom With A Heart of Gold DEBBI KERRIGAN OF FAB’RIK FRANKLIN Owner Debbi Kerrigan
ARTICLE BY BRIANNA MELANSON PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED
Debbi Kerrigan loved shopping at fab’rik in Franklin with her daughter to find new clothes and made an instant connection with the boutique owner. She learned that fab’rik was a franchise based in Atlanta, so it was not as recognized in this area. Their conversations ultimately led to Debbi buying the store, which she understandably considers her third child. She’s been running fab’rik Franklin for almost four years and is grateful for the support of her small business when the future was once so unknown. Debbi admits she’s not a fashion or retail expert, but she’s passionate about it. She dove into the fashion industry with a background in engineering. She says, “I worked in engineering for many years before my kids were born and then switched gears and had the opportunity and blessing to stay home with them. I was a football mom, soccer mom, and a cheer mom.”

“What fills my cup is my connection with my customers, so I love being in the store and knowing them on a firstname basis and getting to know their stories.” — Debbi Kerrigan
Her daughter previously helped on the sales floor, but now that she's graduated college, she’s learning other aspects of the business. So Debbi still gets to rock the mom life at work. A day in Debbi’s life is busy and rewarding. She says, “There’s a lot of stuff that goes on behind the scenes like ordering clothes, handling any inventory issues, communicating with vendors, and just the upkeep of a storefront. It’s like you have another house. It’s 24/7. When you’re an owner, your mind never really relaxes, but so much happens around it that it’s worth it.” One of Debbi’s favorite things is being involved with the community. Debbi says, “What fills my cup is my connection with my customers, so I love being in the store and knowing them on a first-name basis and getting to know their stories.” She and the fab’rik team also participate in community events, school fundraisers, and helping the Nashville Rescue Mission. fab’rik Franklin has great inventory coming in for the end of spring and

summer. Debbi explains, “There really are no rules right now for fashion. Everyone’s still in that mindset of what makes you feel beautiful and puts a smile on your face is what you need to be wearing. We have anything from neutral, boho looks to groovy 70s styles. It’s an interesting mix.” Debbi continues, “Shipments are coming in regularly which is nice. People are traveling which is even better. We’ve been having so much fun working with our customers who are going away to places they’ve never been to like the Dominican Republic and Ireland. The shoppers we had yesterday are going to Hawaii and needed vacation outfits!” Debbi tries to keep pieces under $100 so quality fashion is more accessible and you can get an entire outfit without the sticker shock. Debbi Kerrigan has gracefully run fab’rik Franklin and styled the community’s fashionistas and those in need. Don’t forget to wish Debbi a happy Mother’s Day because this supermom will always be on trend! FabrikStyle.com

Secrets of Sisterhood and Success
Lisa Culp Taylor
ARTICLE BY KAREN CREASON
50
LOCA L LIM E LIGH T | R EA L E STATE
“Success is not the key to happiness, happiness is the key to success.” –Albert Schweitzer (Theologian) If true, Lisa Culp Taylor and the LCT Team - Parks are the epitome of success. The current female team of 18 has grown organically, providing real estate services to many throughout Middle Tennessee. Lisa takes no credit for the supportive culture she has created. The LCT Team is a group of good-spirited people who cheer on each other’s successes and help each other out when one needs support. “No two people are exactly alike on our team. It is the differences in our personalities that make us stronger. We need balance and we get that from each other,” states Lisa. While the team has a shared love of real estate, architecture, and design, their relationships extend beyond that of typical co-workers. Together they hold spontaneous confetti cannon celebrations, attend monthly after-hours team-planned events, and Lisa frequently treats the team to out-of-office experiences and annual retreats. During their most recent Christmas outing, they considered skipping the dinner they had planned and opting instead to stay in the rented Sprinter van so they could continue laughing, singing, and enjoying each other's company. “That is as much a part of our team as selling real estate.” Lisa’s first introduction to real estate was accompanying her father, a local realtor, to open houses. She loved hanging out in model homes and looking at floor plans with her dad. Lisa worked in new home construction, underwriting, and new home development. With each experience providing her advanced knowledge of how real estate worked, she was still uncertain about starting her own real estate team. Not one to look back with regret, Lisa wishes she had cast away her doubts and started the LCT
Team earlier. The camaraderie and sense of family has been such a positive force. Jokingly Lisa states, “I graduated in the bottom 1% of my class - not because I was dumb - I just wasn’t motivated.” Lisa envisions creating a program she can bring to high school students to showcase successful career options which may not follow the traditional four-year college degree path. While many believe real estate is just showing pretty houses and client dinners, there is an unbelievable amount of work that happens behind the scenes for the buyer’s and seller's protection. “There is no secret sauce. The truth of the matter is, it is a lot of hard work but it is a career that if you put your mind to it, you can do it.” As proof, Lisa shares the journey of one LCT Team member who went from cleaning houses to top producer without a college degree. “Sometimes just being happy is a success. I think we put so much emphasis on if you're successful it's because you’re making a lot of money or because people know who you are. But success is just being happy and being around other people who are happy - having somebody believe in you and having confidence to believe in yourself.” It is Lisa’s firm belief, “If you always help other people it always comes back to you.” That kindness extends to animals as well. Lisa is very passionate and active in animal rescue and fostering, including adopting her own rescued dogs, one of whom was born blind. “My dogs are my babies.” Lisa loves and spoils animals as much as she loves and spoils her team. Lisa Culp Taylor and the sisterhood of the LCT Team have proven that happiness truly is the key to success. LisaCulpTaylor.com

FEMALES ON FIRE THREE WOMEN FINDING THEIR STRENGTH, EXPRESSING THEIR VOICE AND APPLYING THEIR TALENTS
ARTICLE BY MARIA DINOIA PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED
Meet the career rockstars who are inspiring women role models, making an impact on their communities and industries, and bettering the world around them.
H E AT H E R A DA M S OCCUPATION: Founder and CEO, Choice Communications DID YOU ALWAYS KNOW YOU WANTED TO BE IN PR? No, in fact, I was a magazine journalism major in college. I actually got the worst grade of my college career in the Introduction to PR class that I took while a student. Isn’t that ironic? But I know the exact moment I realized I was meant to have a PR career. As a college student at The University of Georgia’s illustrious Journalism School, I secured an internship for the Georgia Secretary of State’s press office. It was there I realized the role that a PR professional played - the intelligent and relational buffer between a client (in this case, the Secretary of State) and media.
HOW DID IT COME TO BE THAT YOU OPENED YOUR OWN FIRM? I served as the head of publicity for one of the world’s largest book publishing houses for the better part of a decade. In 2010, after rounds of layoffs due to the recession, I found myself laid off and questioning my next professional move. Seeing how nervous I was, my husband said something to me that I will never forget: “Don’t take your next step out of fear. Fear we can’t pay our mortgage. Fear we can’t feed our children. You’ve built a beautiful career for yourself. Go and create the kind of quality of life you most desire.” It was exactly the freedom I needed to dream. It all began with me consulting and then I realized how much I missed leading and developing a team, especially of women. That’s when I decided to launch Choice. WHAT HAS MADE YOU SUCH AN ADVOCATE/ SUPPORTER/MENTOR FOR WOMEN? In 1994, I pledged Alpha Omicron Pi at the University of Georgia. Initially thinking I was joining an organization to have fun and friends while in college, it had become abundantly clear to me that it has provided so much more to my life. It was as a college student within AOII that our Chapter Advisor Maneen Klein believed in and encouraged my leadership. She believed in me before I believed in myself. She saw and advocated for my potential. Because of her, I became an advisor myself after graduation. Now some 23 years later, I’m still advising AOII college women. I have realized through AOII how important it is - how critical - as a female leader, business owner, entrepreneur and mentor to champion the women coming behind me. The value of these multi-generational relationships cannot be overstated. WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU OFFER TO WOMEN LOOKING TO GET INTO THE PR BIZ? Write. Write. Write. Write. It is the foundation for everything we do in public relations. In order to be a strong, compelling writer, you must write constantly. And it doesn’t hurt to read good writing every day as well. The other thing I would share is that if you don’t have thick skin, then this is not the industry for you. We hear no (or get ghosted altogether) a great deal. And one last small, but important tip: be kind. Your relational equity will serve you well in your career if people believe you are a generally good human being.

CLAIRE CROWELL OCCUPATION: Founder and CEO, Hattie Jane’s Creamery
DID YOU KNOW YOU ALWAYS WANTED TO BE IN THE FOOD BUSINESS? No, I did not know that. I grew up doing it from 12-years-old when Dad bought Puckett’s. To be honest, it was something we did growing up but didn’t consider a career. I didn’t consider it until after college when I was in the ‘what’s next’ phase. I majored in French and was planning to go back to school to get my masters in teaching and that was the track I was on. But I started helping out again and it clicked maybe a few months later when we had two stores and we were looking for a third that there was growth potential within the industry, and I could make this a career.
south in the craft ice cream category. We feel there’s a gap there and we want to fill it. So right now we’re focused on building out our Columbia shop and expanding into a larger commercial kitchen and that unlocks the door for us to be able to grow more. We definitely want to see more HJ units in the Middle Tennessee area.
WHAT IMPORTANT LESSONS DID YOU TAKE FROM YOUR EXPERIENCE GROWING UP? I learned everything as far as hospitality and how to operate a business, not just obviously from my dad but from everybody else I worked with. The challenges of building a company and opening stores. It’s where I cut my teeth and grew in my career.
WHAT MAKES HATTIE JANE’S SPECIAL?
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO FUTURE ENTREPRENEURS?
First and foremost, we’re a southern brand. We use Tennessee dairy to make our ice cream. We partner with a creamery in Crossville called Sunrise Creamery. And we do a lot of partnerships with local products. Like goo goo and Jack - two Tennessee products that come together in a delicious way. We try to keep our flavors in a southern sandbox, if you will. Banana pudding is a good example. We want to represent the
I’m actually an introverted entrepreneur. I’m the kind that will study and study and study and it’s hard for me to pull the trigger, so I like to encourage other women entrepreneurs like myself that aren’t necessarily throw-at-the-wall risk takers that you’re not alone and it’s ok to go for it. Do your research, learn, maybe get some experience under your belt. At some point you just have to jump in and go for it. It’s so rewarding when you do.

AMBER ANDERSON OCCUPATION: Co-host, Amazon Music’s ‘Country Heat Weekly’
I didn’t! My career actually began in sports. I worked for the Orlando Magic in the NBA from 2005-2011. It wasn’t until I moved here to Nashville and started meeting new people and networking, did the possibility of working in music become a reality for me, I’m really, really glad it did. It’s a great fit for me and quite similar to sports in a lot of ways.
My day job is at SMACKSongs, a publishing/artist management company. I absolutely adore the team, songwriters and artists I get to work alongside every day. At Country Heat Weekly, I feel so honored to get to talk to so many amazing artists about their music and the stories behind songs, but one of the best parts is that we get to highlight and give a platform to all kinds of diverse voices as country music is growing, changing and becoming more inclusive. We have a long way to go, but progress is being made slowly but surely.
HOW DID IT COME TO BE THAT YOU LANDED AT AMAZON MUSIC/COUNTRY HEAT WEEKLY?
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU OFFER TO WOMEN LOOKING TO GET IN TO THE BUSINESS?
My dear friend and now co-host, Kelly Sutton and I have known each other through the industry for years. One day she called me and asked me if I’d be interested in doing a chemistry test for some podcast concepts that she had been approached with, but I didn’t have many specific details. We did the on-screen test which was really just us chatting about all things country music, something we love to do. It’s been such a blessing!
The advice I give to other ladies looking to get into the music industry or sports (or anything for that matter!) is to build GENUINE connections and relationships. When people say it’s all in who you know, there’s truth to that. I wouldn’t be where I am without God, my family and friends, and all the people who have consistently looked out for me, advocated for me, and given me opportunities. Networking is one thing, but building true, lasting and genuine connections is priceless.
DID YOU ALWAYS KNOW YOU WANTED TO BE IN THE MUSIC INDUSTRY?

KRISTIN CHENOWETH ON H ER ‘MOM E N T’
Kristin Chenoweth has built a memorable career spanning film, television and stage. From Olive Snook in "Pushing Daisies" and April Rhodes in "Glee" to the original Glinda in 'Wicked,' her talent knows no bounds. The Tony and Emmy Award winner tackles a new project this month as a contributor to the newly-released compilation of essays, entitled My Moment: 106 Women on Fighting for Themselves. Chenoweth explains how her latest endeavor came to fruition. "One of my very closest friends is singer/songwriter Chely Wright. We were talking one day and we were gonna write a song called '"Run, Hide, Fight" about what women do when confronted with something that we don't want to be confronted with. And she asked me a question - 'Do you remember the first time that you fought for yourself?' I said no. We asked Kathy Najimy - 'Do you remember the first time you fought for yourself?' She said no. We asked

“I love a live audience! When I stand in front of the Nashville symphony and I sing my truth - I love opera, I love musical theatre, I love country, I love pop, traditional, standards - I listen to the audience and they speak back to me. It’s a relationship that I love. Live entertainment is my favorite.”
Linda Perry and Lauren Blitzer. One of them said, 'I have to think about mine'. It took me a while, but I had eventually written mine down. I've always been scared of it because I didn't want people to view me as weak or any of the things that people would say. I was scared. Then Kathy wrote hers. Lauren said, 'We need to make a coffee table book and ask all or our famous and non-famous friends the same question. So we did. The stories we got back were so special. Gloria Steinem, Carol Burnett, Mary Trump, supermodels, an Indian girl who escaped her father's abuse. I'm gonna say it's probably one of the more important things I have done in my career." Chenoweth also recently released her first children's book, What Will I Do With My Love Today? that's been heralded by critics as 'heartwarming,' 'sweet,' and 'meaningful.' She tells the story of how that book came to be. "New York was hit hard by the pandemic. And after eight weeks, I decided I was going to write. But I didn't know what I was going to write. So I was talking to my rescue dog Thunder and said, 'What are we going to do with ourselves today? We couldn't breathe on anyone, touch anyone or even smile (with our masks on), so I thought, 'What are we going to do with our LOVE today then? I thought at first it might be a song. But it turned into a book about how people rescue each other. I'm adopted and I was rescued by my parents. Thunder is a rescue dog and I rescued her, although she rescues me more. It's about us taking on Manhattan and doing random acts of kindness." So does she have a favorite role? Singer, actress, author? She says, "I'm a hybrid. But I love a live audience! When I stand in front of the Nashville symphony and I sing my truth - I love opera, I love musical theatre, I love country, I love pop, traditional, standards - I listen to the audience and they speak back to me. It's a relationship that I love. Live entertainment is my favorite." Speaking of Nashville, Chenoweth is now an official resident. "I have no living room furniture or extra bedroom furniture. I can use my kitchen, but I never use my kitchen anyway," she reveals. "I would say to you by August, after some film and TV and other projects, I should be there full-time." Chenoweth is also a passionate supporter of the arts. Ten years ago, after a state-of-the-art performance center was built in her hometown of Broken Arrow, OK with her name on it, her dad said to her, 'You gotta do something with that.' So she started Kristin Chenoweth's Broadway Boot Camp, now in its seventh year. "You audition online and come for one or two weeks to learn from Broadway and television's best. We've had kids from 32 states and 22 countries learning singing, acting, dancing, songwriting, tech, anything media. I'm going to add ad-libbing soon. It's a fun, hard, fabulous and wonderful summer arts program. It's everything I dreamed it could be and it just continues to grow." OfficialKristinChenoweth.com MAY 2 0 2 2 | C I TYL I FE STYL E . CREATING YOUR PERSONAL STYLE WITH BLAIR MOORE ARTICLE BY DAWN BURNS | PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED
Blair Moore has loved all things fashion from a young age. The Nashville native studied Fashion Merchandising and Design at the Fashion Institute of Technology in the fashion capital of the world, New York City. So it was inevitable that the mother of three would find herself in a career where she would help other women find their confidence through
their wardrobe. Moore says, “I love helping women find their true personal style and get them organized in their closet so that they feel truly empowered to get dressed each day with ease and confidence!” Blair shares four trends for spring and how to incorporate them into your wardrobe. StyledByBlair.com | Instagram: @styled_by_blair
BRIGHT AND BOLD COLORS This season, bright colors like hot pink and kelly green are trending. I know this can be difficult for my neutral loving ladies, so I always recommend starting small. Choose a fun colorful earring or add a bold clutch to brighten up your look. You can also have fun with your shoes by adding a colorful heel or sandal to a dress or denim outfit.
FLORALS
edit Edit down your closet. Ask yourself these three things: Do you still like it? Does it fit within reason? Is it still in good condition? If the answer is no, it is time to donate or sell that item. Keep a donation basket in your closet to help you stay on track.
new and old Buy something new, get rid of something old. Each time you buy a new item, get rid
From floral midi dresses to feminine floral blouses, this season is all about flower power. Choose a flowy floral skirt and pair it with your favorite knotted tee and sandals for an effortless look. Tip: If you’re wearing a dress with a large floral print, try adding a denim jacket, light cardigan, or woven belt to add texture and break up the print.
T WO-PIECE SETS From casual jogger sets to feminine tiered skirts and puff sleeved tops, two-piece sets are everywhere! What I adore about two-piece sets is that you can wear them multiple ways. Wear it as a set or take the top and pair it with denim, or take the skirt and pair it with a tee and light jacket or blazer. Two pieces, but multiple ways to wear them!
of an item in your closet. This manages the chaos of having too many options in your closet. We only wear about 20% of the items in our closet so make a list before you go out shopping and shop with intention.
organize When it comes to organization, having a system in place is key. Utilize the entire space for your items. For example, buy closed bins for out of season or travel items and place them on the top shelf. Utilize the back of the door or any blank walls with hooks for hats or a jewelry organizer. Get rid of items that are taking
90’S-INSPIRED DENIM Let me be clear- I LOVE a skinny jean and always will! But the 90’s denim trend is having a moment and if you want to embrace it, here are a couple of tips: Choose a pair with a highrise and a more relaxed fit through the leg. You want the jean to fall right above the ankle bone. This is slimming and flattering to the eye. Pair with a strappy heel, sneaker, or slide.
up space in your closet like shoe boxes, sentimental items, and bulky items like luggage. Store them elsewhere if you can. The two best things you can do to save on space and have an organized closet is to invest in all matching slim velvet hangers. This frees up more space in your closet and looks great too! And finally, add matching labeled baskets for folded items to keep everything nicely organized and in specific categories. MAY 2 0 2 2 | C I TYL I FE STYL E . C OM / F R A N KL I N

Feel Great From the Skin In With skoah Facials

What began as Cricket Madden and her husband helping their daughter decide what career path to pursue after high school, led to them opening downtown Franklin’s unique skoah® facials skincare spa. Says Cricket, “Our middle daughter Natalie was supposed to attend the University of Tennessee, and when we arrived on campus with her, she realized UTK was too big, and began considering a trade school. We were very supportive of her decision to attend the Aveda Institute,” says Cricket. “Natalie had a real interest in make-up, skincare, hair, and nails. With her interest in skincare and dedication to this profession, we decided to open skoah facial shop, a woman-owned business, in Franklin. We decided on skoah because it’s Canadian, and Canada is more strict on labeling and what’s allowed in their products, which are all plant-based, vegan, and organic with the exception of one which we don’t use.” skoah’s history dates to 2003, where the ‘facials only’ shop first opened its doors in Vancouver. That same year skoah hired a chemist and launched its skin care product line which included five products; today they offer more than 42. Their unique combination of personalized facial treatments, expert estheticians, and powerful skin care products established a distinctive skin care experience dubbed ‘personal training for your skin.’ Fast forward to September 2021, when Cricket opened the doors of downtown Franklin’s skoah facial shop where, she’s proud to share, “facial and skin fitness is

our passion.” Their customized facials provide guests with the exact skin care treatment they’re looking for, designed to ‘train, tone, and focus on a healthy face.’ All skoah products utilize high-performance, plantbased ingredients including botanical extracts, natural minerals, organic compounds, and powerful bio-actives. “The thing I love most about our facials is that people leave feeling very relaxed and are absolutely glowing! Our guests comment on how natural and non-invasive our services are, and they see results,” Cricket says. Guests can book online and memberships are available. Members receive preferred member pricing and 10% off all skoah products. ‘Fit Skin Packages’ are also offered, and first-time guests receive up to $30 off their first facial. You deserve the best, so plan a visit to skoah facial shop soon. Where you can ‘get your glow and feel great from the skin in!’ skoahfacials.com

BUILDING A LUXURY HOME SHOULD BE A LUXURY EXPERIENCE I would classify working with the Legend Homes team, from our initial concept meeting to completion, as my most seamless build. This is my seventh luxury home build experience and my favorite home to date. When dealing with hurdles brought on by the pandemic, the Legend group of professionals were always prepared to shift to ensure my dream home would be to my specifications — quite the feat when dealing with a noted perfectionist like myself who has high standards and discerning taste. Since my first visit to a Legend Parade home years ago, I knew we would work together in the future. I don’t believe there is much that could top this wellthought-out concept of a one-level living home and my great experience with Legend Homes. Like so many others, Emma Zinck graduated from high school and went off to college. Never mind that her heart wasn’t really set on the idea; it just seemed like the safe thing to do. Then she discovered that the textbook for a single class came with a whopping tab of $300. That did not go over well with the aspiring singer/ songwriter/guitarist. “That’s the same price as the delay pedal I wanted for my guitar,” she says. “So I said, ‘screw this,’ withdrew from school, and moved to Nashville!” Although her family was a bit apprehensive, they also understood their daughter’s need to chase her dreams. It’s been that way ever since she was 17 and won a local singing competition in her hometown of Fredericksburg, Virginia with a heart-stopping rendition of Neil Young’s “Heart of Gold.” The prize? An opening slot for a Dierks Bentley show where she played a 30-minute set in front of 5,000 people. “I had been playing in-and-around town for a year or two but that was awesome,” says Zinck. “At that moment I knew that this is what I want to do for the rest of my life.” Zinck has found a steady gig on the Lower Broad honky-tonk circuit where she appears frequently, typically on weekend afternoons. Last year she gained international exposure by landing a spot on the Nashville Nights Songwriters Festival

B ACK STAGE | ARTS + CULTURE
in Denmark, an in-the-round event where she shared the stage with Dan Smalley and Eric Paslay. “People came from all over Europe to see the shows,” says Zinck. “I was surprised by how engaged they were with country music. At times we’d be like, ‘you guys can cheer and make some noise!’” Zinck has the requisite stage presence and appearance but her game is deeper than that. She sees herself as much as a guitarist as a singer and her Fender Stratocaster guitar and Deluxe Reverb amp are essential tools for her craft. She’s inspired by rock and pop players as diverse as Eddie Van Halen and John Mayer. “Most females don’t play lead guitar so when people see a chick do something more than G-C-D chord progressions, they’re a little surprised,” says Zinck. “I think the reason most girls don’t play leads is because it’s kind of a masculine thing. You gotta bend your fingers and get in there all gritty. If you have pretty nails, they’ll pop off.” Her advice for younger girls who’d rather shred than paint their nails? “If you want to set yourself apart, practice and learn how to play your instrument. Learn different chord structures. Your guitar should transcend being a stage prop and become part of you as performer.” And the money saved on manicures can go straight to you guitar rig. Jessica Willis Fisher’s Brand New Day ARTICLE BY BRIANNA MELANSON PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED
Franklin resident Jessica Willis Fisher celebrated her 30th birthday with the release of her debut solo album "Brand New Day" on April 13. She wrote eight of the 10 songs on the album by herself. Creating this album was her moment to speak her truth and be vulnerable after leaving her family band, The Willis Clan, and surviving the abuse from her father who has since been arrested. She says, “I can confidently say I’ve lived every word of this. There is no place to hide on this record.” Recording the album was a huge step in moving forward and removing her toxic associations from music. "Brand New Day" is an authentic and freeing experience everyone will be able to relate to. The title track is about seeking adventure, courageously taking ownership of Jessica’s life and paving the way to a better future. She hopes the album will send an encouraging message and coincide with the chapters and seasons of her listeners' lives. You’ll hear spring in one song and fall in another. Even if you’re not going through the exact same thing, you’ll be able to connect with the songs on some level, whether it’s love, joy, or pain. “Hopelessly, Madly” is her ode to true love, which she found with her husband Sean Fisher.
Jessica’s Irish roots inspire her songwriting and you’ll notice the influence in some of her songs. She explains, “If someone tells me one of my songs sounds like a one-hundred-year-old Irish song, that’s the biggest compliment you can give me.” Jessica reminisces on her travels to Ireland and can’t wait to return. She says, “It’s traditional Irish music that first really captured my soul.” She's been playing the fiddle since she was nine years old and uses piano and guitar to write her songs. “River Runaway” and “Fire Song” (her first single) are entertaining songs for her to perform that incorporate the fiddle. She says, “My favorite performances are when the audience is really listening and you can tell that they’re really going on those mini-adventures with you.” She loves performing at venues like McNamara’s Irish Pub and Fox and Locke. Jessica is bravely accepting and learning from the darkest parts of her life. It took her years to even consider doing music again. Jessica says, “I realize that not everyone gets the support I got when I finally reached out for help. I feel the responsibility to contribute in some meaningful way.” Jessica is working on a foundation to support people, especially the less fortunate, going through similar situations. She continues, “Because

of my decision to be fairly open with my story, it means that a lot of people come to me asking how they can help or asking for help. I want to do my part in making the world safer for everyone. It’s a challenge since those are big things to tackle, but it’s an opportunity in front of me.” "Brand New Day" is an album Jessica will always identify with and one she felt like she was destined to make. Jessica says, “I could have just made this record and kept it for myself, but it’s not living it’s full life unless I can share it with people.” Jessica has grown and healed greatly from this album. She’s grateful to have regained her voice and finally start fresh and live her dream. This is just the beginning of Jessica’s solo artist journey. Every day is a new day, so how are you going to live it? JessicaWillisFisher.com

B O X I N G O U T T H E B I G B R A N D F I N A N C I A L I N S T I T U T I O N S STEPHEN & ASSOCIATES PROVIDES A PERSONALIZED PATH TO BUILDING WEALTH
There’s no shortage of big box financial institutions clamoring to manage your money. They’re everywhere and their logos adorn gleaming skyscrapers and glamorous stadiums from sea to shining sea. But there’s a small, independent firm on Music Row whose team of advisors offers a level of service that goes well beyond a quarterly financial statement. It’s called Stephen & Associates (S & A) and for nearly three decades this unobtrusive outfit has been helping clients from all walks of life achieve their financial goals. “It doesn’t matter if you earn $30,000 a year or if you make millions, people have many of the same problems, regardless of their net worth,” says S & A Vice President Michael Mercurio. “As your income increases, so do your obligations. Higher standards of living come with higher expenses, taxes, and debt.” Daniel Stephen founded the firm 28 years ago. When Dan was a young man, his father died, leaving his mother in a situation that was less than ideal. After seeing his mom struggle, he swore that this would never happen again to anyone he cares about.
It’s a mindset closely shared by each of the firm’s seven members. “When we first met, Dan told me, ‘This firm operates on the simple and truthful premise that we care for our clients as we would want to be cared for.’” When it comes to financial planning, Mercurio says that it’s important for clients to take the long view. “Professional athletes do not become professional on day one,” he says. “There’s no special piece of equipment that makes them professional. There’s no one perfect financial investment either. Take for instance the popular 401(k) plans. They are easy to do and have several advantages. Most folks, however, are unaware of their disadvantages. We work with our clients to minimize those disadvantages so they can achieve their maximum financial potential.” At Stephen & Associates, Mercurio says it brings great joy seeing a client become educated and emerge with a strong peace of mind and financial security. “Sometimes it brings tears to my eyes,” he says. “No one should suffer. I don’t want anyone to be in a bad place.” SandAWealth.com.

Wylder Collective: We Run Wild For You! ARTICLE BY ASHLEY HUTCHESON | PHOTOGRAPHY PROVIDED

Kris Perelmutter
Wylder Collective is a group of dynamic women leading the luxury concierge service industry. CEO Kris Perelmutter and Head of Design, Joelle Masterson, effortlessly paint the perfect picture of what life with custom luxury concierge services from Wylder Collective can look like – and it’s wonderful. The ultimate 'you dream it, we can do it' mentality, Wylder Collective is “another member of the family,” but this family member won’t complain when you want something done! Every need is met with Wylder Collective. Allencompassing, they provide services for even the most tedious of chores like stocking the fridge, to some of the most important, like booking a private jet. The entire team at Wylder Collective has their real estate license and excel at the large number of tasks that come with moving in (or out!) of a home. They will find and interview staff, or help transfer staff for local moves, from the pool guy to the nanny to the cook. Need to pack it up or unpack? Not a problem. Furniture and décor needs, they got you covered. Often Wylder Collective acts as a temporary house manager or as a long-term or short-term personal assistant. Happy to have their hands in everything, they’ll make life a breeze setting up anything you need - any type of beauty appointment, private shopping, and they’ll even handle
one of the most time-consuming tasks of them all - planning travel. Wylder Collective’s all-female team is the answer to any problem their clients are having and the same goes for the team. They are each other’s biggest cheerleaders, strongest sounding boards, largest form of support and biggest advocates. Kris's goal is for her team’s foundation to be supportive and nurturing, while she makes it intentional to mentor and encourage the careers of the women. The most poignant aspect of Wylder Collective is that its name was inspired by Kris’s daughter. If something was going to take Kris out of the house and away from her daughter, even if it was a collection of things Kris is passionate about, it needed to be about more than work. It needed to create a legacy. And that’s what Wylder Collective does - they take their role to the next level, give complete luxury concierge services so women can spend time how they really want to spend it. Wylder Collective gives women their time back, and as Kris eloquently states, “Time is the ultimate luxury.” Instagram: Kris @running.wylder Joelle @joelle_masterson The whole Wlyder crew @wyldercollective

Hope Wear Hope and Cathy Cardenas
A Mother & Daughter Duo Create Tees That Give Back
It's not everyday you get inspired from clothing, but that's the hope of mother/daughter duo Cathy and Hope Cardenas. The two have teamed up to provide inspirational clothing meant to uplift people around the world to share encouraging messages with one another. Says Cathy, "We really hope these products bring others joy and true hope along with a brighter day." What inspired you to create Hope Wear? With all the chaos in the world we wanted to find a way to bring a smile to people's faces. We love fun t-shirts and inspirational messages so we thought what a fun way to bring all of those together, and that's how we came up with Hope Wear. My daughter's name is Hope, so of course we had to include that in it. What's the message you want to resonate with people? We hope that the t-shirts make others feel inspired and serve as reminders of of how blessed they are, and to be grateful and to

feel loved. The shirts we have are simple but powerful. Our number one-selling shirt is our 'Blessed' hoodies and t-shirts. I think it reminds people how blessed they are. And when they wear it, I think it serves as a message to others to remember how blessed they are too. How did you choose the charities who are receiving proceeds? We were very strategic in choosing the charities that we chose. We wanted to make sure we were selecting charities that we felt were offering long-term hope to those in need, and ones that were doing things to help better the lives and future of those in our communities. We chose the HOPE Mental Health Foundation because we love that they fund scholarships to help those in need secure the mental health therapy that they need. We also selected the Fresh Start Women's Organization because they help women who have been through hard times financially,
suffered abuse or come from poverty situations. They help these women get back on their feet, get things figured out in their life and put them on the path to creating a career and not just a job. That leads to a brand-new chapter moving forward to ensure they never go backwards again. And we also selected the Veterans Matter Organization. They are an incredible organization that helps to cover rent for veterans that are trying to get off the streets and out of shelters and get their life back on track. You own your own public relations agency. What does your daughter do for a living? Yes, I love doing PR and I'm just about ready to celebrate 11 years of my business. We also are celebrating my daughter Hope getting accepted into nursing school. She would love to be a labor and delivery nurse or to work at a children's hospital. From Single Mom to Baking Buns to Benevolent Benefactor FRANKLIN’S OWN “BUN LADY,” CORDIA HARRINGTON
108
LOCA LS ON LY | L IFE + CULTURE
The moniker “Bun Lady” makes Franklin resident Cordia Harrington chuckle. Goodnatured, gracious, approachable and generous, Cordia laughs, “It is not the name I would have chosen” but was bestowed upon her by her Leadership Nashville classmates, and it stuck.

CORDIA HARRINGTON
Listed at number 93 on Forbes magazine's list of 100 wealthiest self-made women in 2020, Cordia is the CEO of Crown Bakeries, a high-speed baking company that bakes over 15 million baked goods daily. As a single mom with three boys under the age of five, Cordia recalls those early years filled with mornings spent crying on her drive to work and nights crying herself to sleep, yet there is nothing she would change. In Cordia’s view, “The bad stuff molded me. It gave me the chance to rally. It challenged me to think differently. I had to zig and zag and bootstrap so much of my life. It is all part of the fabric of who I am today.” During college, an exchange student program helped Cordia understand the global world. Such a life-changing experience, Cordia sponsors exchange student programs for 60-70 students annually at Belmont University and the University of Arkansas. As a McDonalds franchisee, Cordia was asked to join the 'Bun Board.' “I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt I was to be a baker for McDonald's. ‘No’ was not an option. I highly recommend that every person follow that voice inside of us even when it doesn’t make sense.” And her plan to be a bun baker for McDonalds probably didn’t make sense since Cordia had no manufacturing experience. But that internal voice kept Cordia moving forward. Coming to Tennessee to start the Tennessee Bun Company, she felt welcomed and accepted. “This state, this community, this town - they gave me the love and support to be my best self and I am so grateful.” And for all her blessings, Cordia gives back at every opportunity. “I love seeing the sparkle in somebody who is really trying to make their life better and their family's life better. I love to come alongside them. If I can better their life, I don’t care if they stay with us or they go somewhere else.” Each year, Cordia uses money from her speaking engagements to take women “with a sparkle in their eyes” on an all-expense paid trip to St. Thomas. With tears welling up in her eyes, Cordia recounts how she felt “honored and unworthy” when more than 40 women she took on those trips flew from all parts of the United States to attend the unveiling of The C.O.R.D (Create Opportunities Reach Goals) Cordia Harrington Center for Excellence at the University of Arkansas last month. Constantly and generously giving back, Cordia and her husband Tom are donating their time, talent, and resources to chair Williamson County's Heritage Ball with an aggressive goal to raise one million dollars for future preservation projects. Considering Cordia’s drive, grit, and determination, there is no doubt she will accomplish this goal just as she has accomplished every other goal she has set for herself. CrownBakeries.com

Get Away to the Mile High City Where the Mountains and Metropolitan Lifestyle Vibrantly Coincide
Visit Denver When you think about Denver, what immediately may come to mind is the gateway to the stunning landscape of mountain peaks with an abundance of recreational activities. But what you might not realize is just how unbelievable the urban experience is in this extraordinary city set at the foot of the Rocky Mountains. Our team of local lifestyle fanatics at City Lifestyle are thrilled to collaborate with Visit Denver to present a customized visitor’s guide and exclusive GIVEAWAY* to this mile-high destination. With recent recognition and rankings, such as landing its spot as a top 10 city in the world to visit (Lonely Planet), leading the nation in attendance at performing arts events and exhibitions (National Endowment for the Arts), a repeat nominee for its foodie and craft beverage scene, and home to THE most attended concert venue of any size anywhere in the world (Billboard), Denver is bursting with profound cultural and lifestyle experiences, and we’re here to round up our recommendations for you. One neighborhood that sets Denver apart is Cherry Creek North, otherwise known as the Mile High City’s ultimate luxury shopping and dining destination with the highest concentration of small businesses. Get your street chic and fun-filled soles ready for 16 walking-friendly blocks of shopping, pampering, entertaining and feasting. With ample annual events to check out, pair your festival-fan side with high-end couture hunting at Cherry Creek Shopping Center, perusing Hermes, Chanel, Stuart Weitzman and Louis Vuitton, just to name a few. As you work up an appetite, prepare to drink and devour the exquisite fare that Cherry Creek offers with more than 50 restaurants, making it almost impossible to choose and most definitely requiring a return visit. One such sophisticated and stylish restaurant destination includes Local Jones inside the urban

Equal parts nostalgia and composure, this neighborhood restaurant serves up great food in a socially engaging atmosphere, offering brunch and dinner menus. Soak up the social atmosphere both upon entry and at the Elevated Rooftop Bar, and bring your swimsuit for the pool deck complete with recreational curling, cabanas and breathtaking views of the city. Beyond the charm of Cherry Creek, Denver’s culture of arts and live music are thriving and growing by leaps and bounds. Take Meow Wolf, for example. Meow Wolf’s third permanent exhibition, Convergence Station, opened in Denver in September 2021 and is a not-to-be-missed experience. Likewise, the Denver Art Museum hosts its global art collections representing cultures from around the world, with more than 70,000 works of art in 12 permanent collections along with several outdoor artworks not to be overlooked.

Family’s History Through
A nt ique s Antiquing is a family business for Williamson County native Amanda Glenn Breuer. In the 1970s, her parents Archie and Joan Glenn opened the Franklin Antique Mall at 251 2nd Avenue South Street in downtown Franklin. After Amanda's parents passed away, the business was passed to her. She maintains great relationships with her 70 independent dealers. There is even a waiting list. Amanda's daughter Morgan, who helped with the family business while she was growing up, is so proud of how her mother pays tribute to her grandparent’s legacy by keeping the store open.

As you enter through the store’s 17th century French doors, you are surrounded by memories on every shelf and around every corner. From vintage chandeliers and antique furniture to uniforms, currency, and ammunition from the Civil War, you realize this is a very special place. Then you notice all the Sizzle Awards on display, while manager Carolyn Golden greets everyone with a smile and keeps the business running smoothly. If you love picking through old treasures, you will find a plethora of nostalgia from vinyl records to old toys and books. If you love interior decorating, Franklin Antique Mall is the perfect place to add in a few vintage pieces with character into your current decor. Amanda has a couple of booths herself to sell her new reproduction pieces that coordinate nicely with the other booths. Amanda says, “I like having a mixture of antiques and novelty goods. It feels more realistic and interesting when you walk into the store. My home is a blend of antiques and contemporary because I think it adds dimension.” The two hundred-year-old building on the corner of Margin and 2nd Avenue South has quite the history itself. During the 1890s, David Farr had a granary warehouse known as Farr Mills at this site, but not the current building. Before antiques moved in, the building was famous for being the ice house in the early 1900s. Imagine a horse and buggy delivering a block of ice to your home! By the late 1930s, iceboxes were being replaced with electric refrigerators. In the early 1970s, the building transitioned to an architectural antique warehouse, then the antique mall owned by Amanda’s parents. For five decades, this 12,000 square foot building has been Franklin's oldest antique mall. In fact, Franklin’s 2nd and 3rd Avenues are known for having some of the finest antique shops in all of Nashville. The mall boasts an eclectic mix of customers from Franklin locals to tourists from around the world and even a few country music celebrities for good measure. Make sure to add Franklin Antique Mall to your bucket list of the most fun places to shop local. TheFranklinAntiqueMall.com
