The working farm is the subject of an eight episode docuseries on Disney Plus about life working on a dairy farm. Members of the Hatcher Family shared with The Williamson Herald that one of their primary goals for the docuseries was not necessarily exposure for their brand but bringing awareness to the continued existence of and needs within the agriculture industry, as well as education about ways to support local farming and its importance. our passion of working to really grow Peace Love & Grub.” Chance and Stephanie’s love of the area, combined with having family close by who can spend time with their boys, ultimately bought them “home” to Tennessee. Their business model consists of three main areas: private chef dinner parties and classes, weekly meal prep and delivery, and small-event catering.

Chance’s reason for catering small dinner parties and events is truly straight from the heart. “We love the intimate setting of going to our clients’ homes and enjoying an interactive dinner party with them. Seeing our clients involved in selecting and preparing the food is always so fun. Everything we do is 100 percent customized to the experience each client wants to have.” “Our big story is the gratitude we have of understanding the path we’re on. As much of a dark cloud as Covid has been, it ultimately brought us back to our passion. And to be able to pass this gratitude on to our clients is extremely rewarding.” PeaceAndLoveChef.com

EASTERN U.S. with an elevation of 5,506. Temperatures stay below 75 degrees pretty much all year long, so spring, summer and early fall are cool and perfect weather for fishing, hiking and mountain biking. And while winters bring a wonderland for sledding, skiing, snowboarding, ice skating and snowshoeing with yearly snowfall that often exceeds 100 inches, it’s the scenic beauty and tranquility of the mountains that fall brings that make it magical. Throw in 50 acres of developed parkland, almost 10 acres of lakes, 28 miles of designated hiking and biking trails and a 23,000 square foot state-of-the-art Recreation Center and you’ve got the recipe for perfect fall fun. Finish that equation with Beech Mountain’s breezy air, little to no humidity (and therefore no mosquitoes!), brilliant fall colors and the kindness of the people there, and it becomes the ultimate family destination. On your way in to town, stop and have lunch at Holy Smokes BBQ, a locally loved barbecue restaurant and grill that specializes in traditional and tasty North Carolina BBQ. It is probably the oldest form of American barbecue and benefits from a wide variety of influences. With the plethora of sauces to put on your pork, from the eatery’s signature apple butter or the zesty Eastern NC bbq sauce, there is no wrong choice. Play corn hole on the back patio or peruse around the gift shop and take home some of their signature hand crafted fudge. CONTINUED >

Gear up with your helmet and mountain bike and hit the trails. Emerald Outback is a network of five named trails, two grassy roads, a gravel bailout road and a mountain bike skills area. The trails are designed with both hikers and bikers in mind. For bikers, these offer some of the best flowing singleand double-track trails in North Carolina. Mountain biking, however, is not for the faint of heart! After you’ve gotten your fitness on, stop in to Brick Photo provided
Oven Pizzeria for dinner. The restaurant is run by Johnnie and Jimmie Accardi, twenty-something brothers who are second generation restaurateurs on the mountain. The pizza is delicious! Guests can also choose from Italian dishes, cheese steaks, meatball subs, great sandwiches, cappuccinos and even a dessert bar. It sits right next to a miniature golf course, so stop in and play after dinner. Spend a comfortable evening at 4 Seasons Beech, a lodge style resort nestled at the summit of the mountain. The apartment-style hotel features a restaurant, a fitness center, and a bar/lounge with a spacious lobby that has several sitting areas and a large stone fireplace. After an evening of mountaintop comfort, waking to the fall brilliance of the changing leaves, venture over to Fred’s Backside Deli and General Mercantile for breakfast. Fred’s has been serving delicious food, groceries and Beech Mountain apparel since 1979. It’s been in operation for 40 years, 365 days a year! Lots of history here with Fred’s family once residing on the third floor. If you’re lucky, you’ll get to see Fred who never misses a day and hear his story. After breakfast, head on over to Buckeye Lake and spend the morning paddling, fishing or just relaxing by the lake. Stop in the Buckeye Rec Center to check out canoes or kayaks and enjoy a morning on the water, taking in the flora and fauna. Turn things up a notch by then heading over to Beech Mountain Resort. Take the roundtrip chairlift ride to Beech Mountain’s highest elevation and you can see the mountain scenery of five different states. Have a drink at the 5506 Skybar or play some disc golf and then head back down to enjoy a second cocktail at Beech Mountain Brewing Company, nestled in the village of the resort, providing the perfect atmosphere to relax after a physical day of mountain activities. It’s also one of the only U.S. breweries owned and operated by a ski area. Beech Mountain Resort closes down for a few weeks in between the summer and winter seasons and guests are treated to closing and opening day celebrations like an oyster roast, live music and smores! And if you’re still hungry after ingesting all of that mountain air, head to the Alpen Inn for some fine dining. Old-world ambiance, large picture windows and breathtaking views of the slopes and mountain ranges of three states round out the experience of tasty appetizers, juicy burgers and ‘Mile High Club’ sandwiches. The large selection of draft beers, fine wines and mixed drink favorites make it the ‘in-place’ for residents and guests alike. Less than a five hour drive from Nashville, Beech Mountain is quite literally the coolest town. CityLifestyle.com/Franklin

LIFE Growing up in Wyoming, Kathy Thomas was

I love the freezing of a moment in time and allowing others to go back to that moment and hopefully remember that emotion. I love when you see a photo and you can feel their story.” After a decade of corporate work as a seasoned and accomplished multi-store director for top brands like Louis Vuitton and Lucky Brand Jeans, Kathy decided she wanted “to do something more meaningful in the title of what I called my career.” She wanted to control the freedom of her own time and have the ability to dictate her own work schedule. At the same time, a former coworker who saw Kathy’s photographs on Facebook insisted Kathy photograph her upcoming October wedding - just six short months away. Kathy, although not a professionally trained photographer, reluctantly agreed. Kathy still remembers the date, March 26, 2013, that she left her career in luxury retail with the goal of turning her passion for photography into a scalable business.

CAMERA Kathy was gifted a professional camera by her husband. Determined to make her dream a reality, Kathy was strategic about every move she made. She called professional photographers and offered to be a second shooter. Working with others she began to fine tune her skills. Six months into her business, Kathy photographed her former coworkers’ wedding making it her first solo wedding and her first wedding featured in a national publication. Kathy knows now more than ever that it is never too late to act on something you are passionate about. After eight years in the industry, she has never regretted her decision, acknowledging, “ I wouldn’t be where I am today if I didn’t take that leap.” Paying it forward, Kathy combines the lessons she has learned from others along with her own experiences to actively mentor other business owners. Kathy Thomas Photography has studios in Nashville and Orlando and Kathy’s trusted team is an extension of Kathy herself. She and her team travel worldwide to capture life’s moments for their clients. Kathy prides herself in capturing candid imagery by taking the time to understand her clients and provide art direction in every shoot to ensure her clients feel comfortable and look fabulous on camera. The Kathy Thomas Photography team goal is to evoke emotion from their clients when they view their images, in the same way images did for Kathy as a child. Though Kathy has had the honor of photographing talent like John Legend, Kristin Chenoweth, and professional athletes, it is the trust her everyday clients place in her to capture their most treasured moments that keeps her striving to exceed their expectations. And while Kathy loves to shoot anything surrounding love, her expertise lies in capturing extraordinary life moments for real people. Outside of wedding photography, Kathy and her team love to photograph anything from boudoir to high school seniors. The diversity of their portfolio keeps them inspired and challenged. But Kathy Thomas, the self taught, internationally published and award-winning photographer, is quick to downplay her numerous accolades. “Photography is an extension of who I am, but not everything I am.” 58

Putting these holiday shows together gives me the chance to create an evening for a family that makes its way to the Ryman.” Amy works closely to design the show, a fun process for her. Amy says that connecting with Vince, the people on stage, having her family backstage, the crew at the Ryman and everyone who shows up feels like a community building experience. When Amy and Vince aren’t touring, you can find their family enjoying the outdoors. Bike riding in Percy Warner Parks’ recreational trails is a family favorite. The kids also love playing volleyball at different parks in town. Vince is an avid golfer and can often be found at local courses. Amy also enjoys visiting music venues and seeing shows at the Franklin Theater. As Amy looks back on the past 30 years, she hopes that her music will “fill people’s reservoir.” She wants to remind everyone that they are loved, special and have unique gifts. She wants people to feel connected to each other and hopes that her music breaths a little wind into our sails. Christmas at The Ryman tickets are currently on sale at ryman.com. AmyGrant.com

AMISH-MADE FURNITURE HAS FOUND A HOME IN NASHVILLE
WITH MORE AND MORE FURNITURE BEING IMPORTED FROM OVERSEAS, THE QUALITY IS NOT ALWAYS THE BEST. And there often isn’t the ability to customize this furniture. Gary O’Reilly, the owner of O’Reilly’s Amish Furniture in Nashville, wanted something better for his customers. “I’ve been in the furniture business since 1972,” he says. “In 2010 or 2011, I was at a furniture show in Chicago and there were two Amish people who had some things on display,” he says. “They got my attention.” He bought one of the bedroom sets to showcase at his store, which at the time was in Illinois, and within the first week he sold two of them. He then bought more, and they again sold within the first week. He kept buying and they kept selling. At this point, he decided to get rid of all the manufactured and imported furniture he had in stock and replace it with this beautifully handmade Amish furniture.

BUILT TO LAST (CONTINUED)
In 2018, Gary sold his business in Illinois when he and his wife, Tomi, moved to Nashville to be near family. He knew he didn’t want to retire. He loved the work and loved the furniture business, and so two years ago he opened O’Reilly’s Amish Furniture. What makes Amish furniture so special? “Number one, it’s solid wood,” he says. “There is no particle board. Number two, it’s made in America. And number three, the finishes are wonderful.” It’s also extremely customizable. “You can take a 66-inch dresser and make it 64 ½ or 69; you can make it 36 inches high or 46 inches high.” In addition, customers can choose from over 407 types of hardwood such as oak, maple, cherry, hickory, elm, and walnut. “I’ll sometimes spend an hour and a half with a husband and wife to pick out a table,” says Gary. “There’s the shape, the size, the base, with leaves or without, and edging.” There are nine different edges available just for a table. “On our floor right now, we have approximately 35 tables and chairs, so I walk the customers around and they show me what they like,” he says. “We have a big wall that has 75 10 x 10 inch boards in six different woods, and there are 16 colors of each wood.” They’re attached with Velcro, so people can take them off and lay them on a table. If something in the store is not exactly what a customer wants, customized pieces can be made. He first asks the person to find a style they like on the floor, and then he designs and sketches from there. Once the sketch is approved, he sends it out to be built. “When someone comes in to ask if they can get a particular thing, I always interrupt them and say ‘yes,’” says Gary. “We can basically do whatever you want.”

While respectable uses, the Foundation believed it was important to preserve the historic use as a theater as its community-focused mission and public space is vital to the culture and character of downtown Franklin. Bari Beasley, President and CEO of The Heritage Foundation, welcomed the audience and made two big announcements with the naming of The David W. Garrett Green Room and The Emily A. Magid Auditorium at The Franklin Theatre. David serves as Board Chair and has been a tremendous supporter of the Theatre’s preservation along with Emily. Because of the tremendous challenges the Covid19 Pandemic caused for event venues across the country, Bari praised the efforts of her team, especially Meg Hershey and Jennifer Parker who helped keep the Theatre going with their creative marketing efforts throughout last year.

The evening’s show-stopping entertainment was provided by Matt Logan Productions. The theme “Home” ran throughout the evening. The stage performances were kicked off with Patrick Thomas’ rendition of “Sit Down You’re Rocking the Boat,” the very first song performed on the Theatre stage the summer of 1937 when it opened. The premiere of the theater’s mini-documentary film produced by Stonecastle Pictures was also a highlight. This spectacular documentary chronicled the past 84 years of the theater’s fascinating history with a glimpse into its future plans. It featured some of Franklin’s long-time residents, including First Lady Linda Moore. Her Uncle Herbert Bowen ran the Theatre for many years, and her Aunt Ruth ran the concession stand. “I hope everyone in Franklin sees this important documentary full of charm, humor, and historical signif-

GRACIOUS HOME IS A MANHATTAN INSTITUTION THAT HAS HAPPILY FOUND ITS WAY TO FRANKLIN. Opened in 1963, it was Manhattan’s original must-go-to home décor location. Customers were so loyal that soon Gracious Home found themselves carrying everything from beautiful pillows to elegant lighting - anything their customers needed to beautifully outfit their home. In 2017, Gracious Home reinvented itself and began to expand. They moved their corporate office to Franklin along with a brand-new store front that opened at 1124 W McEwen Drive in Franklin in early 2021. Still maintaining their service-first mission, they are a luxury home décor store with offerings that are stunningly classic, on-trend and indulgent. Customers will find custom beds and furniture, gorgeous scents and lighting, exclusive lines of bedding, with cookware soon to come. Not simply things for one’s own home, Gracious Home is a fantastic place for a unique gift. “When my wife and I were looking for a trust attorney we interviewed four different attorneys. We were most impressed by Justin Gilbert’s breadth and depth of knowledge. He listened carefully to our needs and requirements and he recommended we create a grantor trust for our taxable assets and retirement trust for our pretax assets. He was the only attorney who was knowledgeable about retirement trust and the benefits such trust would offer. I am a very detailed person, I read every word of the documents and I require that I understand everything in the trusts. Justin answered all my questions to my satisfaction and readily agreed to make changes that I wished to make. At no time did Justin show impatience with my requests or inquiries. Justin always met his commitments to deliver draft documents or changes there to. There will come a time when our children will need an attorney’s services to settle our estate in accordance with the terms of our trusts. My instructions to them is to employ and depend on Justin’s services. I HIGHLY recommend Justin to anyone who needs a trust attorney. I am very hard to please because I like perfection. That is what I pay for and Justin delivered.”

GIVING BACK
THREE T’S OF GIVING: TIME . TA LE N T. TREA SURE .
GENEROSITY AND GIVING TAKES MANY FORMS
TIME. The gift of selflessly volunteering can be as simple as shopping for another, stuffing envelopes, collecting needed items, or even volunteering at a one-time event. Talent. Talents we may overlook in ourselves are oftentimes needed and appreciated by others - organizing skills, data entry, creative fundraising, raising awareness through social media, cooking a meal, playing music for others to enjoy, gathering supplies - the list is limitless. Treasure. Cash donations are always appreciated, and greatly needed, but new or gently used clothing, outgrown toys and games, furniture, and food are also sharable treasures.

excerpts from that conversation. SoutheastFinancial.org.
How does Southeast Financial differ from its competitors? As one of the first credit unions in Tennessee, Southeast Financial has a history of over 85 years of supporting our members and the communities we serve. We respond to the ever-changing needs of members by providing resources for every stage of life. Banking local with us guarantees exceptional service that is unmatched by our competition.

How can Southeast Financial give me peace of mind with respect to evolving financial and market conditions? Especially in times like these, financial planning services can help members build a plan for meeting their future goals and help them stay on track. Our members also have access to Money Management, an online banking tool that allows them to view and categorize their transactions, make budgets, set goals, and more. There’s even an option to link external accounts for a more complete financial picture.
How is Southeast Financial involved in the community in terms of philanthropic and charitable activities? We just wrapped up our 19th Annual Southeast Financial Golf Classic. Each year, all proceeds go to Hope Clinic for Women and United Cerebral Palsy of Tennessee. We’ve raised over $171,000 since we first began. Other community outreach efforts have included Christmas stockings for the children’s hospital at Williamson Medical Center, school supply drives, volunteering with Second Harvest Food Bank, and blood drives at several of our branches. big brother, the e-tron RS, and that’ll give you 637 Hp and deliver you to 60 mph in 3.1. Some tests have achieved sub 3 second times. The e-trons chief rivals over at Tesla are even quicker in a straight line but there are two key things Tesla lacks: experience on a racetrack and a legacy of exquisite build quality. I noticed both of these things within the first few miles behind the wheel. The e-tron handles like a race car, not harsh and rigid, but balanced and precise. It inspires a huge amount of confidence right away. Second is the build quality, and trust me, the interior alone is worth the premium. Some are drawn to the spartan interiors of the Tesla brand but I don’t know anyone who likes their giant panel gaps and poor build quality standards. Audi has built luxury cars for a very long time and that is immediately apparent; the e-tron is a beautiful place to be. As we arrived back at Audi Nashville, with our test complete, we took another walk around the car to admire its looks. Steve says, “I might have to get one of these.” If that’s how an R8 owner feels about the slower of the two e-trons, I can’t wait to try out the RS e-tron GT model.

LOCAL’S CHOICE
Learning to Be ‘Brave’ WRITING HAS ALWAYS COME NATU RAL TO WIFE AND MOTHER, KATHLEEN DAVIS. A retired teacher of ten years, Franklin resident Davis is the author of the children’s book BRAVE – with her two children being the main inspiration. As a multicultural book for children ages 2-6, the theme of this bedtime story is meant to help children feel brave, safe and loved. Davis’s children went through a phase where they were having nighttime fears and waking her up during the night. “My kids are crazy,” Davis said. “They are loud, rambunctious, hilarious and, if I do say so myself, pretty darn adorable. So other than the constant nightly wake-ups as my inspiration, I also had the daily reminder that I had two perfect characters running around my home. How could I not write a book about them?” Davis went through the self publishing process to get the book out to help her children and, of course, other children. However, finding an illustrator was no easy task. Davis eventually found an illustrator, Rekha Salin, based in Bahrain, on Facebook. “BRAVE is based in the nighttime, however I wanted the book to be bright and colorful,” Davis said. “She nailed it! I couldn’t have asked for more.” With the nature of the story, this book is a great read for the Halloween season coming up. BRAVE can be found online at Amazon and at Barnes and Noble. You can also download the E-book on Amazon or for free with Kindle unlimited.
